    2nd bed in room
    Christa T.

This place is a NIGHTMARE! My mom was brought here for knee rehab after her insurance (Aetna Advantage is the worst apparently) denied her return to the previous facility she was at before being rushed to an ER and a second hospital for care of post surgical knee concerns. Upon arrival the transport person single handedly slung her onto a bed using only the blanket she was laying on and abruptly landed her on the bed on top of the covers and fully tangled up in the sheets and blankets from transport. This for an 82 yr old woman with a leg brace and kneecap that was shattered and put back together. The place was dirty and tv had some white substance smeared across it and the bed was up against a wall with a tv and bright yellow surge protector zip tied to a wall. Initial nurses came in and had not even looked at her paperwork yet but did help untangle her from the bedding and got her into bed properly. They had to go through 3 blood pressure devices due to lack of charge. Overnight she was told to go to the bathroom in her bed cause no one was around to help with a bed pan. They said 'the men just use urinals' as of that helped her. Upon arrival to see her she was just finishing a rehab therapist assessment and did get a basic breakfast at 7 am. No other staff came to the room for over 3 hours while I visited except to deliver a disgusting plate of food she could not even force down. When I asked about her medications the nurse said she had looked for my mom multiple times in the morning but she wasn't in her room. My mom could not and did not leave her bed or that room even once since arrival. Then upon review of her meds they had substituted one RX due to price without even advising her and the nurse told us there were no nightly meds. I asked for a detailed review of her meds and then the nurse acknowledged she has at least 3 meds ordered for twice a day. So she said we'll just give them to her after 9pm tonight. Then said she'd bring her meds right away since we confirmed she was in the room. After 15 minutes I went to find the nurse gossiping with a coworker and when she saw me she said she'd be there in 2 minutes...over 5 minutes later she showed up and gave her meds. Then after arguments over a feminine urinal to allow mom to relieve herself when they cannot come and help...they returned to say they were all already in use and not available. So finally they brought a bedpan for her to use. I called the numbers for the director of nursing to see if we could get some help with the nurse's failure to provide medication and care and no one answered or called me back. We asked about a bed rail to help mom turn herself for bedpan needs the rehab therapist came into the room and said sharply 'we have a mobility issue here?' With attitude. She said they rarely give bedrails and she will just have to suffer over the weekend until Monday when they can start therapy to get her to stand on one leg, pivot and sit on a toilet chair or wheelchair to move forward. This place is the worst care, environment and bedside manner I've ever seen!!! I asked to speak to a manager, supervisor and case manager and was told I can call them but it's their day off and Monday would be th earliest. I accept transfer my mom elsewhere until a case manager arranges it. What a freaking circus and lack of humanity this place exhibits. And yes I blame Aetna but also want to state that this place was rated 4 stars on the list the hospital used to find her a facility to complete her care. Such bullish*t and insurance screw around for our elderly. I will be sure to share this feedback as wide as I can to make sure everyone knows about this place. Don't disregard bad reviews as I was told by the hospital social worker. Ignore the hood ones cause I'd probably not be on here if they were testing her with any amount of decency or care.

While her dementia…read morehas been slowly taking effect on her, the care the CNAs and nurses have risen to the occasion. They are all extremely friendly, knowledgeable and kind. My mother is extremely well taken care of there. The facility is clean, pleasant, well-maintained and has a very nice garden downstairs, with plants and a waterfall. The food is above average, and dieticians work to ensure each resident is tended to as needed. My two complaints are cost and number of employees (esp. regarding equipment). My mother has to be lifted into/out of bed and her wheelchair. It seems that there are only one or two of these lifts per floor. When she needs to go the bathroom, she sometimes has to wait 10 minutes, which is uncomfortable and, truly, degrading. For what they charge per month - which is a lot - they should have another lift. Also, the CNAs are overworked. They need at least one more per wing. The other complaint is cost. If my mother weren't using her life savings, we couldn't afford it; however, as long as she has the money, we will keep her there. I looked at several places. While FVT was a bit more expensive than many, the reviews are very, very good, and I wouldn't risk moving her to a cheaper facility. How they treat the patients when family isn't there is crucial. FVT employees take exceptional care of her. Highly recommended, if you can afford almost $9000 per month for a private room (not much less for a shared one...).

It was the second day it opened...a little over three years ago. From my apartment on the 10th floor I look east across the beautiful campus and see the McDowell Mountains and the rising sun each morning, as well as students scurrying, riding skateboards, and hurrying to class. Residents are also able to take classes tuition free and participate in many campus activities. It's an easy walk to the football and basketball facilities, and my favorite, baseball, is just four miles away. The Gammage Performance Center is an easy walk, as well as the many shops downtown. For transportation we have light rail that goes all over the Valley, just a short ride to see the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Phoenix Suns, or the Phoenix Symphony! Similar facilities are remotely located...go out the gate and see desert or a residential neighborhood. We have shops, groceries, a drug store, entertainment, and a movie theater! My one-bedroom apartment is spacious and comfortable with maintenance and cleaning included. Our computer/TV guy Trevor is one of the top five reasons to live here...get a new printer...he will make it work in no time!! Our maintenance people are prompt and pleasant for issues with appliances or repair of anything that comes up or to assist in special projects. We also have three restaurants serving a variety of new items as well as old favorites. Many ASU students work in the restaurants and our underground parking garage. None of us get into a hot car because it's all underground! Valets provide airport service and also drive those without with a car for appointments within a reasonable distance! Residents are also kept busy going all over the Valley in 15-passenger buses to varied locations. Many events and speakers are offered; it's sometimes impossible to do it all. One floor is designated as Assisted Living and another for Memory Care. So if you are thinking about moving from the big house that's heavy maintenance, don't wait until you have a fall or accident. Come here, meet new people, and join in the activities. If you have grown children, it's a great gift for us to all downsize and know there are people nearby to help as we grow older and less able to handle the burden of home ownership or living alone. We went to Arizona General on Ellsworth and Elliot. From the minute we walked in to register until I left there was pleasant helpful staff. We arrived around 9pm, Emily at registration was kind and quickly got me registered. About two minutes later I starting receiving text updates about my wait time. These texts continued throughout my stay in the ED, keeping me up to date on my progress. AND, this morning I received another text offering help to find a PCP and make a follow up appointment!! The Triage team saw me within 20 minutes, and about 10 minutes later I was called back to a room. Dr. Okafor came into the room, listened to my symptoms, and immediately told me he would be ordering a CT scan and blood work. All the tests, blood work, CT scan, were done so quickly, I was truly astonished. Gratefully, nothing was seriously wrong, and I was informed I'd be going home. Karla, RN, explained all my discharge paperwork instructions very clearly, my IV was removed, and we were on our way home. This entire process was so quick and efficient! We arrived around 9 pm and we were back in our home at 12:03 am, this is including our drive time. THANK YOU to Karla RN, Michelle patient financial services, Krystal Lab Tech, Dayna Imaging Tech, and Dr. Okafor for all your attention, excellent care, and quickly moving me through.
