I was paralyzed in 2019 while working as a heavy machine operator for a mining company. After I was able to leave the hospital I ended up staying at Santé for years (off and on) & it's the only physical rehabilitation facility that I will go to. I have had the displeasure of staying at 2 different PT rehabs before I ended up at Santé & you would not believe the horror stories I have from those places, just unbelievably awful (Both stank of urine & feces the moment you get passed the front desk.) & Sante was like a Godsend for me. Let me start with the facility 1st. The place is very nice. They have a Starbucks Cafe, a full gym staffed with friendly & knowledgeable physical therapists that will work with you everyday, a full restaurant, and most importantly, HUGE SPACIOUS INDIVIDUAL ROOMS equipped with a flat screen tv, a mini fridge, a kitchenette, a microwave, and a nice big full size bathroom for my wheelchair. Next let me tell you about the staff. Everyone there is so friendly & polite. I stayed there for years & most of the staff stayed there and are still there since I first went to Santé in 2019 (That should tell you something. Most nursing facilities are like a revolving door when it comes to the staff). I'd like to mention some names of people who really became friends of mine while I was there. Marlin, Brian, Aiden, Catalina, Sharon, & Kimberly from the CNA team are all excellent at their jobs & true professionals. These guys went over & beyond their duties for me & I thank God for their help, they truly are the best (You need to trust me on this, at other places I've had criminal's & people who just don't care & I never got that at Santé. They were always good to me). From the nursing staff id like to mention Betty, Jose, Fennela,& Elizabeth. These nurses are top notch. They actually care about the patients & they don't treat you like a person that they have to deal with, they treat you like a person & that is so rare in healthcare especially post covid. If I had to complain about anything it would be the food. When I first went to Sante in 2019 they had an extensive menu with lots of options & the food was actually good. I left for a year and when I came back the kitchen had really gone down hill. You know it's not good when the employees don't eat from there. I talked to the main chef Daniel & he told me they cut his budget drastically & the quality of the food suffered as a result so it's not his fault, corporate is always looking to save a buck & they shouldn't do that with the food, it's kind of important for those who have to stay there for long periods of time. I was able to eat there everyday if I wanted to but I ordered delivery most days because the food was nasty. There are so many others I am forgetting to include but the staff for the most part is amazing. If you are looking for a nice place for yourself or a loved one look no further. It doesn't get any better than Sante of Mesa. Other places will put on a show for you & trick you into staying there thinking it's a nice place & then when management goes home the night crew will come in and they are terrible, sometimes even abusive. This doesn't happen at Santé, they even have couches in the rooms with pull out beds so you can have a loved one spend the night with you, they welcome it because they are fully staffed at nighttime and don't leave you with a skeleton crew like everywhere else. At least that's been my experience. Last but not least I'd like to thank Kristina the maintenance manager! Kristina is an angel walking around on earth. She totally gets me & we were friends (she is another 1 who has been there a long time.) She will make sure everything in your room works & she keeps the place nice. Management is also great! If you do choose Santé' make sure you don't get Irene as a nurse. She is a nurse at Santé who doesn't belong. She is the only one I ever had a problem with & it was like she liked to pick on me. I honestly never did anything to this lady & for some reason she was always rude & unprofessional. Whenever I would ask for her she literally took an hour or longer to get to me if she ever came at all. I would ask her to change my folly catheter in the morning time and she would blow me off all day & try to pass the work on to the night nurses. The worst part about working with her is when I would ask for her help I could actually hear her just talking & laughing with the staff instead of attending to my needs. She made some of my days very bad & I always loathed the days I had her for a nurse but she is the exception, all the other nurses there are great, especially the ones I named. If you have any questions feel free to ask me, I will answer any questions truthfully because I know how important it is to put your loved ones into a good nursing facility & God willing I never need to go back but if I ever need to stay in a nursing facility again Sante is where I would go. My experience with Sante of Mesa was extremely disappointing and concerning. During my father's stay, he was reportedly overmedicated to the point that Narcan had to be administered and 911 was called. This was a frightening situation for our family and raised serious concerns about medication management and patient safety. In addition, my father's foot wound did not receive the level of care we expected. The wound worsened significantly during his stay, leaving us concerned that proper wound care was not being consistently provided. To make matters worse, several of my father's clothing items went missing and were never recovered. While lost belongings may seem minor compared to medical concerns, it added to our frustration and lack of confidence in the facility's overall care and attention to residents. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this facility. read more

Santé of Mesa is probably the best rehabilitation center in the East Valley. In fact, it is the only one I trust. I had visited a friend there several years ago and was impressed with the facility at that time. My mom fell in March, and after a week in the hospital, we had to go to a different rehab facility at first because Santé wasn't on her insurance. However, that place didn't take good care of her, and she ended up with a Stage 4 pressure sore and sepsis, resulting in another, much longer, hospital stay that included three weeks in intensive care. When she was ready for discharge to rehab that second time, Santé was covered by her insurance, so I insisted on going there. We were at Santé for about six weeks, beginning in June. Some have said in other reviews that the décor is "dated," but I disagree. The style is Southwestern, which is quite appropriate for Arizona, and it never goes out of style. The photographs on the walls are of beautiful Arizona scenery, and the rooms are set up like hotel rooms. Santé also has a Starbuck's café and some beautiful outdoor patios where guests can get some fresh air. The food here is much better than most hospitals and rehab facilities provide, and guests can order just about anything they can think of, even if it's not on the regular menu. Each room has its own refrigerator and microwave. Most of the rooms are private, so most guests don't have roommates, but the shared rooms are really semi-private, with each guest in his or her own separate space, and the kitchenette being the only shared area. The physical therapy gym is wonderful, with many different types of equipment for different needs, and the therapists encourage family to get involved in the therapy, which takes place six days per week -- far more and far better than the first place my mom stayed. The wound care nurses took excellent care of my mom's pressure sore. By the time we left, it had filled in far more than I had been told to expect, all thanks to their superior wound care. Everyone was happy to answer questions and help however they could. My mom's case manager, Angie, was very kind and patient, and she gave me lots of information about post-rehab care possibilities. With her help, we were able to get post-rehab assistance that worked best for our situation. I would also like to give special thanks to Nurse May, Physical and Occupational Therapists Cisco and the two Lisas, and especially Speech Therapist Aaron, who went above and beyond for us. I was happy to take my mom home when she was discharged, but I was also sad to leave because the staff all seemed like friends. Most of my mom's allotted rehab time had passed before she was really able to start getting back on her feet, but I'm happy to say that, in continuing at home what I learned while participating in therapy with her at Santé, she's now improved by leaps and bounds and is well on her way to resuming the activities she enjoyed prior to this misadventure. I look forward to bringing her back to see everyone after her recovery is complete. I can't say that there weren't ANY problems, however. One female CNA was changing my mom's brief one morning, and some fecal matter had gotten into her wound. I asked the CNA to make sure she cleaned it out thoroughly, and she tried to tell me that the fecal matter had originated IN the wound, which was impossible in this case. When she finally left the room, I finished cleaning out the wound and asked the wound nurse to double-check that it was clean. This same CNA also used my mom's phone charger to charge her phone without asking, which I found rather presumptuous. The only other problem I experienced was that I always took my mom's laundry home to wash, but I was gone for one full day and night, and during that time, they managed to lose one of her nightgowns. I provided the price of a comparable nightgown for reimbursement, but to date, we have received nothing. Those minor problems aside, the gist of the matter is this: if you or a loved one needs to stay at a rehab facility for physical therapy, I cannot recommend any facility higher than Santé of Mesa. read more

I was s patient in Sante' Mess for twelve days after a total knee replacement. Everyone, from the facility doctor, to the dining room staff treated me very kindly! I felt safe and cared for. Daily physical therapy was instrumental in my 'at home' recovery. I had several nurse visits and physical therapy sessions in my home, which was another layer of recovery care! I'm grateful to be able to do the activities I enjoyed before Osteoarthritis affected my knee and have lost twenty pounds by resuming my activities! Thank you Sante' Mesa! read more

Sante of Mesa has great caregivers. They run a very great operation and take very good care of the guests.

We were lucky to get a room at this facility for my 72 year old sister recovering from a major foot surgery. While the decorative theme is dated the facility itself is first class. Plenty of staff, excellent PT facilities, rooms are large. I noticed some others gave lower marks on the food service. What I would say to that is, everyone has their own desires for type, taste, and spice levels of food. It's impossible in this type of setting to meet everyone or anyone's expectations. Food was well prepared and mildly spiced. That is exactly what is expected in a facility like this. I personally would stay here anytime I needed a rehab situation read more

First let me start off by saying we've been to 2 other skilled nursing facilities this year and this is by far the best my Dad has been in. Pretty much all staff we interacted with were amazing and patient, especially with my dad and his dementia. He was not the easiest patient by any means, but everyone was kind and good to him! I would like to say a special thank you to Helen, Catalina & especially Marlon who is a saint! I can't express enough gratitude towards Marlon! One of the kindest humans we've ever met! The dining room staff was always helpful and kind and made each experience great! The facility itself was always clean and never had any smells like other facilities we've been to. Unfortunately my only negative experience was discharge. There was a lot of confusion due to lack of communication between office staff and family. Cassandra was not a pleasant person to deal with and seems to have a hard time having a professional conversation. I do understand people have bad days and stressful jobs, however being told that if we left earlier than they wanted, I was then threatened with no medications to be provided nor any home/health care. Fortunately, this did get straightened out and we were able to leave with the Dr's clearance, home health care and medications. Having said all that, the facility, CNA's and nurses were top notch and we would highly recommend Sante Mesa to everyone! read more

I checked my mother into Sante of Mesa this morning (5/24/24) after a month of touring and conducting interviews with many skilled nursing centers in Mesa, Chandler and Scottsdale. My husband and I ultimately decided on this facility for several reasons. 1)It is the closest location to our home so I can get to her quickly in the event something happens. 2)They have cozy private rooms - and even their shared rooms are very private. Kudos to the architect for designing such impressive shared rooms that are essentially a private room with a shared bathroom. 3)The facility is very quiet, nicely decorated and appeared very well managed based on our quick tour and conversation with the administrators. These HORRID YELP reviews had me a NERVOUS WRECK though! My mother had a stroke in February. She Was in ICU for 11 days and admitted to a post acute rehabilitation facility in Anderson SC, where she has lived for the past 70 years. After she was released from the rehab in SC where she spent 3 weeks, I moved her here to AZ where I live so my family and I could take better care of her. We had to fight tooth and Nail with Humana to get her readmitted to a skilled nursing rehab facility and it was an absolutely exhausting endeavor to say the least. The admissions department at Sante of Mesa was instrumental in helping us navigate this tedious process however I was still super skeptical of them because the terrible YELP REVIEWS I kept reading. I hardly slept at all last night wondering if I was making a bad decision to admit my mother here and if I would be exposing my mother to some sort of abusive experience and environment. We checked her in at 10am this morning and just left at 7pm. I am writing this review in the car on the way home. Obviously it hasn't been a full day or even an overnight yet but based on how I felt last night with all the unknowns, I'm so relieved & completely confident leaving my mother in the care of Sante Of Mesa tonight. I do not know how the next few weeks will go and will be updating my experience as we go but as far as first impressions are concerned this facility has absolutely surpassed any and all of my expectations. When we arrived there was a team already in her room ready to greet us. Francesca, her day CNA was so full of energy and never stopped working the entire time we were there. When she left around 6pm, Haider (sp) came in to take over as the night CNA. Both CNA's were Very professional and kind. Jessica, her day nurse for today was very professional and although quiet and reserved, you could tell she was taking us all in and making mental notes. Marlin and Catalina were also in the room to welcome us and make our transition smooth and seamless. I walked down to introduce myself to the PT and OT in the gym. Cody and Chris introduced themselves to me and said they would be two of my mother's therapists along her recovery journey. Both Chris & Cody were confident, articulate & professional. They spent time telling me what the next day would look like and made me feel extremely comfortable about their work ethic and abilities. Annie, the young girl who brought in my mom's dinner was so cute and personable. She reminds me of my daughter and had a very friendly disposition. Every single patient that we came in contact with appeared happy. Every family member that we passed in the hallway with their loved one appeared happy and satisfied. One lady who happened to be coming in to see her mom while we were walking the hallway raved about the place! Said her mom had been there for five days so far and stated that "the place and staff are amazing!" We walked up and down each hallway several times throughout the day really looking for any signs of distress or bad energy coming from the patient's rooms and I can unequivocally say that I did not sense anything unusual, or anything that aligned with the bad YELP reviews. It's only been a day and I will absolutely be updating my review as the time progresses but I had to come on here and give my feedback on our first day and initial impression of the facility. I'll end this initial feedback by stating that there is NO SUBSTITUTE for personal advocacy on behalf your loved one. You must take the ultimate responsibility to protect the health and wellbeing of your family member while in any skilled rehab environment or otherwise.Never rely solely on the care and support of any professional staff in any facility to care for you completely. Be present. Be familiar with you or your loved one's needs. Take a copious amount of notes and pictures to document your stay. Be vocal about your expectations. Unfortunately Many health care facilities are understaffed and require personal due diligence on your part to prevent and protect your loved one's safety and wellbeing. read more

If you have a loved one with dementia or extreme care needs, I DO NOT recommend Sante of Mesa. They are not equipped to care for such needs, and it was so disappointing. The staff would get very frustrated with my grandpa, and did not care for his basic needs well. We came to visit every day and no one could tell us updates or how he'd been doing, it was often random nurses responding to us "oh, I don't know how he's been I just got here." We had no idea what was going on with him the two weeks he was there unless we spent an hour hunting someone down after everyone dismissed us. read more

This "medical" facility is a joke - my father had a broken hip. He needed to have a X-rays and a MRI at another facility , he was left in a transport wheel chair for 2 hours without any medical checks. He should have been a bed instead. I know I have written a review already, but this bears repeating. The team at Sante of Mesa is absolutely fantastic and amazing!! My wife came in after breaking her hip and leg at work and has been treated like family the entire time. When I say family, I mean family you like, not the ones that only come around for free food at the holidays. The nurses have been absolutely top notch and been very proactive in her care. The Therapy team was able to overcome her fears and get her moving all while making it fun for her. You never want to say that having your wife in a hospital or other facility is a good experience, but this was the best it could be under the circumstances. read more

Beautiful facility, all the staff greets with a smile. There are activities in house for patients to attend, adding some socialization and fun during a hard time. They have case managers that truly help throughout the stay and advocate with insurance companies, a discharge planner that fights with insurance to try to get all the needed medical equipment, a great social worker to help with family dynamics, POA paperwork and support/guidance. The Administrator is hands on and always ready to help families and staff. You can tell this is just a job for the staff, that they are all truly passionate at what they do. read more

The level of incompetence in this place is astounding.. where do I begin? My elderly mother with dementia was brought into this facility after a fall. I am from out of state but spoke with her case manager, Angie, to get updates before I could get down there. When I finally could get down there I met with Angie face to face. We talked about my mother's condition and where she was at. She made this off the cuff remark about my mother saying "you know she's an alcoholic,right?". To which I replied "what?!" She says, "yeah when your mother was brought in she was intoxicated, it's all in her discharge notes." When I asked if she could show me she said no because of hippa... but there was no rule against her talking to me... when I finally did obtain the notes for myself it didn't say that anywhere. I asked for her to show me and she immediately started to back pedal and suddenly had stuff to do. The majority of the nurses there do not care. Most of the ones I talked to barely gave you a second and brushed off any concern I had. My mom had a yeast infection that looked like it had been there a while. When I pointed it out to a FEMALE nurse she handed me a topical cream to take care of it. I have no problem helping my mom but she needed antibiotics. I hope she felt her mistake when she was met with a glare from me. My mother ripped out her own catheter, and the doctor came in, pressed her stomach, asked her if she was ok and that was the end of her check up. Had I not discovered that her catheter was still inside of her and she had only taken the bag off it would have probably remained there. On discharge they asked me if I wanted a walker or wheelchair for my mother. I asked for the chair, they told me it would be there at the facility on the day of her release. It was not, they had it sent to my home. They were supposed to have her prescriptions ready when we left. They did not. In fact I got a call from their pharmacy asking me when my mother was discharging so they could have her prescriptions ready. She had been in Washington for a day already... On a positive note, the facility is clean. So at least while you watch your love one get treated like a Medicare paycheck it will be done so in a clean environment. Also, if you have the pleasure of encountering Mykel or Heya, they are both amazing wonderful people who generally cared and took the time to be kind. read more

I was really impressed with this care center when I was there to visit a patient. The entrance and receptionist were very welcoming. And they're doing their part with COVID check-in and monitoring and everyone wearing masks. I had a chance to eat lunch in the bistro and although it was a little slow in service the food was great and folks were doing their best to keep up. While visiting, the staff was so helpful and attentive. I felt they were taking good care. I've visited others at other facilities and felt these guys went above and beyond. The facility is an attractive and well kept facility. That being said, we would not recommend it. 1. When our mother was admitted, the very first phone call we got was from her case manager wanting to know what the discharge plan was for her? This was a new experience for us, and she had just gotten there! We were trying to get her settled, not thinking about her being discharged. 2. The nurses/nursing assistants were very nice but still problems ensued. If given a heavy narcotic for pain she was loopy. We requested that she only be given Tylenol. The nurse that we spoke with said she should not be getting narcotics because only Tylenol was listed for pain. However, later in the same day the nurse on the next shift gave her the narcotic. When questioned he said that the narcotic was the only pain med on the chart, Tylenol was not listed at all. When questioned again this same gentleman looked at the chart again, and said "Oh, it does say she can have Tylenol!". 3. When we were getting her ready to be discharged we were told that she would need professional transportation home. When we asked if we could take her in our car we were told they would call the police and said it would be elder abuse. Upon further inquiry we were told that if the physical therapist would teach and certify that we knew how to move her from a wheelchair into the car, and out again, with a slide board then we could transport her ourselves. We did. The therapist taught us and said we were good to go. 4. Upon discharge employees from the facility took her to the car in the wheelchair. When we offered our slideboard to them (they did not bring one with them), they declined and said they were just going to lift her from the chair into the car!! Everything they told us we could not do. 5. The physical and occupational therapists were outstanding! 6. We received a bill for the amount the insurance did not pay. We immediately paid. A month later we received another bill asking for immediate payment. The bill was dated 3 days after the check cleared our bank account. Clearly they had received payment. We call to talk with someone about this and make sure money is correctly credited. So far, there have been 4 calls made, but none returned. All calls go directly to voice mail. read more

This facility is beautiful and smells clean! Unfortunately they are poorly managed. My dad was transported to this facility after a week in the hospital. Thankfully the transport person took him to his room and got him in the bed (the hospital had called ahead to ensure they had room for him and got a room assignment). My mom went out after over an hour has passed and they said "oh someone will be right in!" Two hours later and nothing. I understand it was a busy time for them. But they should at least have a protocol for greeting new patients. We were concerned that if he stayed and needed something no one would even respond to his calls for help. So we busted him out!! I would not recommend this facility. read more

November, 2021 my wife spent three weeks in a similar facility that was rated FIVE stars, if that is the criteria then Sante deserves TEN stars, because it was so superior to the former facility. The staff at Sante was very pleasant, but most of all responsive to the needs of my wife. After three weeks she has improved her physical strength and met the initial goals that we had set. We especially appreciated the help from Steve in OT and Cody in PT. A nice feature at Sante was the dining room, which even had a limited menu for patients and guests to order from. The food was not only excellent by the service very accommodating. We especially appreciated Steph, Mackenzie and Estephan in their pleasant helpful efforts. Finally, we were impressed with the activities director, Blair, who gave my wife some enjoyable moments painting and other events to help pass the time. read more

This place is AWFUL! The patient care from the staff is terrible. They don't check on patients at night. It takes forever to get help once you push the button to notify a nurse. My mother slept in her dirty pants all night several times. She also slept with the light on all night. She couldn't move to turn it off due to her condition. If you're thinking about putting a loved one here, think again. read more

This sad excuse for a "heath care facility" deserves no stars. Read the bad reviews here and if you love your family steer clear. My Grandmother was under their "care" for a short time after a bad fall and she experienced egregious insensitivity and disrespect at Sante of Mesa. The staff doesn't communicate with one another and they're even worse at communicating with the family. They failed to inform us of specialty doctors appointments and then would just drop my poor confused grandmother still in her pajamas with her hair standing straight up alone in these nerve-racking places she had never been before to be examined by doctors she didn't know yet. The bed sores and emotional trauma are still healing. This establishment should be ashamed of itself. If you're violently offended by the maltreatment of the elderly like we are, please avoid the place. read more

DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONE HERE!!!! The staffing ratio is unacceptable and unsafe. Many of the staff are rude and indifferent and seem unqualified. Patients are left unattended for long periods of time. My father was not fed more than once because they "forgot" because his room was the last on the long hallway. Nurse Renee and CNA Jerry are extremely rude and show zero empathy towards patients. Cannot be bothered with tasks such as showering or toileting patients with limited mobility. Case Manager Angie P is also exceptionally rude and does not complete required tasks of her job. Took 8 hours of repeated phone calls and e-mail and a face to face meeting to submit a referral and the referral was incomplete. My father was removed from the facility by paramedics via 911 after only 6 days there with pneumonia, a UTI and bed sores. AVOID AVOID AVOID this facility! *nurses Sharon and Julia were very kind and attentive as well as CNA Kendra. read more

If you care about your loved ones... find somewhere else to take them. They provide Poor care, no communication, not administering meds correctly, food poisoning from the food, men trying to help women shower, not answering nurse call button... my dad lost 20 lbs in 2 weeks and was in worse shape when he got home than when he went in. Good luck trying to get ahold of the "professionals" in charge of their care. You leave a message and they never call back. The level of care that was received there was nothing short of neglect. This rehab facility is very organized and I find all of the staff organized and helpful. They all have a positive attitude. The food is great and a good variety. I would highly recommend this facility. read more

terrible nursing service and some staff were downright nasty

When you walk into this place, it is nice and has no smell. Well, my husband was transferred to this place after almost one week stay in the hospital. First off, my husband is paralyzed on his left side due to a stroke. He fell in the bathroom, and it took three of us ladies to get him off the floor. Per the protocol for my husband's conditions, this was to be notified to the physician, and the proper step should have been taken. Well, it was not reported by his nurse. Medications were not given on time, and his call light would sometimes be turned off by saying your nurse will be with you soon. Well, we would wait 45 minutes to one hour to speak with a nurse. On the day I took my husband out. His night nurse was condescending and rude. His blood pressure was so high, and they over medicated him that day by the time he got to the hospital. If my husband had continued to stay at Sante of Mesa, he probably would have died. I brought my husband home to live. He has been home since the 24th of December, his blood pressure has been under control, and his heart rate has improved due to medication being given on time. I would never recommend this place to anyone, sorry to say. read more

This place is so clean it smells nice when you walk through the halls the staff is really nice my friend is staying there now he said the food was really good he said they give you too much food the staff is kind they have therapy set up every day ot pt and speech on a daily schedule which they post for each patient daily Dr Babu came in yesterday he was also very nice and answered any questions that we had read more

My husband was in this facility June-July 2023 after a fall and broken arm. After a few weeks, he began to go downhill. I had 2 phone calls with Dr. Babu, face to face meeting with Angie, Care Manager, spoke to the Physical Therapist and everyone assured me that he was healthy. Dr. Babu dismissed my concerns and said his lab work was great and recommended IV for dehydration. I showed up the next day and my husband's room was clean and he was nowhere to be found. The aide behind the nurse's desk on her phone said "he's gone". After screaming in the hallway, a condescending nurse told me that he had been taken to the hospital via paramedics, unresponsive and convulsing 2-1/2 hours prior. When I asked why no one called me, she said they were too busy. I found him in the local ER with UTI and sepsis. The ER Dr. did not expect him to survive. After 6 days in PICU, he was well enough to transfer to another facility. A few days later, I had a phone meeting with the Director of Nursing and the Administrator, and they assured me that they would follow up with me. NEVER heard a word from them.
