He cares, he loves his furry patients, he takes time to explain a situation about my dog, He has had this practice for years. It is HIS practice, he in there for many long hours, he doesn't have 8-5 then walks out the door, he isn't like that. His staff too. They put in loonnnggg, hard days, hours. They deserve recognition too. If you have to wait, just know!!! He cares and not rushing your pet. I get it, we love our pets and so does he. Knowing there was going to be a wait today since there was only one doctor taking patients today I asked what the wait would be and they refused to promise a time, which I was not asking for, just an estimate!! I cancelled my appointment and called Scottsdale Veterinary Clinic and they said wait for emergency services was a half hour. Yes, I usually wait to see the vet, but as the saying goes, good things come to those who wait. Over the last 33 years, I have taken my animals to too many veterinary offices to count. Most now are owned by national corporations like Veterinary Clinics of America (VCA). They are cold and impersonal. Customer service is almost non-existent. Many are owned by private equity concerns. And by concerns, theirs is the bottom line, not the care of your four-legged family member. Tempe Vet Hospital is not the place to go if you value punctuality over your pet's care. Dr. Wells is very knowledgeable, caring, and takes the time to address your questions. Maybe that's why they tend to get behind on appointments, but I for one am willing to wait for that expertise and attention. read more

I'm happy and relieved that my dog did well for the first time getting anesthesia for his teeth cleaning. The staff is accommodating and understanding with how excited and anxious my doggo can get when he comes to the clinic. I gave 4/5 stars because I had to reschedule due to a miscommunication/misunderstanding about premedications and the vet tech and doctor lacked personable skills...lol. I think they were just afraid of my dog? Idk. They were just kind of stand off-ish. I do appreciate them taking in safety considerations and was not in a rush to get him done. I can't say enough about how incredible this place is. Living in a big city it's hard to find a place you fully trust. Their pricing are more than fair especially for the grade A service. You know your pet is taken care of. I love that they work with our pet insurance and provide itemized bills, along with information packets as well. They have always been so helpful, professional, and they always explain everything they're doing throughout the process in a way that you understand. I can't recommend them enough, amazing people! After moving to Tempe from out of state, I was in need of a new vet to help with my very anxious pug. We initially came in to help diagnosis his anxiety as he was not sleeping, digging, and barking all throughout the night. With our previous vet, he was prescribed anxiety meds but when we went here they said they were unable to prescribe anything until the did blood work and tests (which were about $300 total) even though they could very much see how anxious my dog was. My pup is so anxious that he freaks out whenever anyone gets near his feet to cut his nails, etc that he will bark, scream, and wiggle. They ultimately said my pug was "vicious" and unable to be helped unless they put him under anesthesia which they proceeded to book him for the next morning totaling up to about $500, when I initially came in just to get prescribed medications and a nail trim. I went a while without writing this review but thought it was important because I went to two other vets after this, and although my pug freaks out and suffers from anxiety, every other vet has been able to hold him down and comfort him in a way where they're able to do what they need to do. Also, with all tests, medications, and things needed to be done, it was a total of $180 compared to the $500 from Tempe. Compared to other vets, Tempe vet was unprofessional, overcharging, and not understanding and compassionate with their customers. My pup and I left feeling judged from the staff and overall not helped at all with his continuous struggling anxiety. read more

This is by far the best vet office I have ever been to! I took my dog in for the first time today and we had a great experience. Mariam was an amazing vet tech! She was so great with my dog and answered all my questions and was very knowledgeable. She went above and beyond to make this experience as comfortable as possible for my pup. If I could give this place a negative rating I would! I have purposely waited over a month to do this review to ensure I was not speaking out of pure emotion. I had taken my dogs there for the last few years- it's not fancy, but for shots and one other time for dental clinic it was ok. But this last time- was the last time! Two dogs- for dental cleaning and mass removal (both dogs had little masses that were documented in the pre op consultation when labs were drawn). On day of surgery, they went over dental cleaning and identified couple of teeth to be extracted in one of my dogs. I brought up with technician the location of the masses to be removed the morning I dropped them off. I turned my dogs over to technician only to find out she didn't document about the masses. 8 hours later they said they were ready to be picked up. When I picked them up- both still had masses on them! So they underwent anesthesia without getting anything done about their masses! When I asked the staff about it, they both played dumb. I asked them to phone the doc. He never called his own staff back!!! No one apologized for their error! The next day the doctor did leave me a voicemail telling me to call them to get them back to get their masses removed under "light sedation", but again-never apologized for their mess up! No telling what would happen to them if I l took them back to the butcher! On discharge instructions there was no mention that they removed almost all of my dog's teeth!!! The staff NEVER said one bloody word about that!!! They were too busy trying to hide the fact they messed up and didn't remove the masses! Working in healthcare for over 30 years- I know about integrity, errors and accountability! This place does not display any integrity - STAY AWAY from this dangerous, unprofessional, irresponsible facility! Furious and will NEVER recommend this place! read more

I've only been here twice & highly recommended this place. I've seen two doctors one being the owner and both are so straight forward about my dog's situation. Winnie has been suffering from extreme allergies since the first 4 months of her life, she is now 3 and a 1/2 and they have been the only two doctors that have given me options, opinions and suggestions on not only how to proceed but how i can dig deeper into finding the key component that's causing her issues. They have provided her with comfort and care in every way to help resolve her issues. As well as provided me with all the resources i need. Pets are expensive let alone sick pets and my journey with Winnie the past 3 years has been extremely stressful and difficult and now with Tempe vet i finally feel relieved and have regained my hope into Winnie's overall quality of life. I really never leave reviews but i wanted other owners to know the pleasant experience I've had here. I also wanted to mention Winnie is difficult with her nail trims and the vet techs (I'm not sure their names but a few of them) have all worked together multiple times in multiple attempts to try and get it done. I took my dog in for his first wellness check at this location. Ultimately I am perplexed and discouraged by my experience & will not return in the future. This is due to the fact that I was asked by the primary doctor at this location if I felt comfortable with him not wearing a mask. Considering we are in a small enclosed space, I am surprised this was even a question -- especially since it is required for all customers. I insisted that I wanted him to put his mask on. Towards the end of the appointment I had to ask the doctor a second time to put a mask on & even questioned as to why mask guidance is not being followed. My question was completely glanced over, the doctor proceeded with leaving the room to get his mask and complete the appointment. This experience was uncomfortable & irritating, as a doctor I would expect that CDC guidance would be followed and it should never have to be enforced by a paying patient. Outside of the mask ordinance issues, the vet suggested antibiotics for my dog but the reasonings seemed unclear & he spoke so quickly about different scientific terms/conditions. Due to his presence and demeanor, it was difficult for me to feel confident in the solutions I was provided. Overall, this was an appointment I wish I never scheduled & I would absolutely recommend finding somewhere else to go. read more

Its only 4 stars because I have yet to bring the dogs here... Dr. Wells has taken very good care of my cats - one in particular, our cancer cat, Ellie who has had two tumors removed. Whats particularly notable about his treatment of her was that he was very measured and clear about the possibility of the return of the cancer and that he didn't recommend chemo because it only extends life expentancy a small amount and gives them crummy quality of life. For that alone he gets 4 stars. And although the mighty Ellie - all 8 punds of her - does not abide the vehicle, she calms down in the presence of the nursing staff and Dr. Wells. He takes his time explaining treatment options and answering any questions you might have. Wait times are generally very short and the new office is clean, airy and modern. And while cancer surgery isn't cheap, I don't feel like I'm being nickeled and dimed every time I walk through the door. Will be bringing two of the dogs there this summer. read more

The groomers at this facility are awesome. They do a fantastic job and really really like dogs. It is reasonably priced and centrally located. You can't ask for better. My dog has been going to them for 3 years. All I have to say is the groomers name and my dog is beside himself with excitement, seriously. Receptionist are very rude, but, please do not be deterred by this, forge on, the groomers are 1000 percent customer and dog oriented. You will NEVER be dissatisfied. read more

I've been here three times, each time I waited over a hour for my appointment. Once I left after being told there was a critical case in the back of the office so my wait would be hours longer. Once I saw a vet, nice man, very helpful. The third and final visit I was told it would be a long wait for a room and that they could take my dog back and give her the shots she came in for. Great! I knew I had to take him to a vet As soon as possible because I didn't want the bite to get worse. I am new to the Tempe area but found this place right up the street from where I live. I checked and saw they had good reviews so I decided to bring him here. I am so glad and thankful that I did. They were all SOOO sweet and genuinely wanted to help! If you love your animal STOP and take a minute to read this! I scheduled an appointment to have my two kittens declawed at Tempe Veterinary Hospital. They seemed to be a legit place and very nice. I had no reason to think that they were bad in anyway. I brought my cats to them the day of the operation for the declawing and received a phone call about three hours after drop off to be informed that one of cats had died after the operation. The doctor was so incentive and acted like it was just another cat. There story of what happen is very suspicious and I will never know what happened to my poor cat. Dr. Wells has cared for my pets for about a dozen years. He is calm, knowledgeable, and reasonable in what he expects an average owner to do to treat a sick or aging pet. He has euthanized two pets for me (one of them just two weeks ago). You will not encounter a more compassionate man when this agonizing decision must be carried out. I have never felt financially gouged, although he is not the cheapest vet in town. I believe you are paying for his years and years of training and experience. He knows his stuff. I have had limited contact with his associate vets, as I try to schedule all my appointments to see Dr. Wells. Cons: Frequently, the front desk is chaotic. Wait times to check in/out, ask a question on the phone, or get the vet into the exam room, can be longer than expected, even when taking into account that all vets must see emergencies first. I think one more front desk person, just to answer calls, would alleviate much of this problem. read more

Dr. Wells is amazing!! I have been to many vets and specialists for my AM Bulldog in the 6 years I have had her. I agree with some of the other comments about the office staff being somewhat rude and not caring but Dr. Wells is well worth the wait!! I had my AMB in to see him after we had noticed a growth in her mouth. Dr. Wells was very complete and showed a great deal of compasion in caring for my baby. He not only explained the needed surgery to my boyfriend who was in the office, but also called me after hours to explain it to me. Good: office is neat and orderly visually appealing Dr. Wells is very knowledgeable and personable most of the staff is very accommodating Neutral: There's an ancient bag-of-bones cat that roams the office freely. I like him, but if your pet is adverse to cats, then beware. Not so good: even if it doesn't appear to be busy, be prepared to be there for a few hours. I've been there several times and don't think I've ever been there for less than two hours, and that was just for a check-up. One woman in particular always appears to have a million things to do, and she will sometimes be short with you. Other than that, the rest of the staff is very nice and attentive. They will try to milk you for your money. I once spent $200 on tests for what turned out to be run-of-the-mill kennel cough. Today, they tried to convince me to spend $400 on tests. Bottom line: if there's an emergency and your pet's life is on the line, Dr. Wells will take care of it. If you're not sure what's going on and your pet is not in any immediate danger, then maybe find a place that is cheaper. read more

Unfortunately, I have to update my review for Tempe Vet Hospital. I have taken both my dog and cat to Tempe Vet Hospital for at least 10 years. Dr. Wells has always been great! However, my recent experience has led me to revise my previous good review. For the past 2 weeks, my cat has been experiencing issues urinating. We tried to make an appointment almost 2 weeks ago but they were too busy see her and suggested we go to an emergency clinic. We were disappointed that her regular vet wouldn't make time to see her at a potentially urgent time, but we went ahead and took her to the emergency vet. They ran her blood work, did a urinalysis and diagnosed it as a UTI, and gave her some medicine. She seemed to be okay for a while, but she started showing the same symptoms today. So again, we try to get her into see Dr. Wells, and again, they are too busy to see her until Tuesday (today is Friday) and suggested we again go to the emergency vet. When I talked to Renee (the office manager), her tone was dismissive and not at all empathetic. I can take my pets to much cheaper places to get their vaccinations, but I chose to always bring them to Tempe Vet Hospital to ensure we have an established relationship with a vet I trust. As I told her, what is the point of having an established relationship with a vet if they won't be there for you when you really need it? Her response was that they're not an emergency clinic. *eyeroll* I'm not asking them to see every random pet that has an urgent issue, I'm asking them to continue providing care for a pet that has been their patient for more than 10 years. However, I now have to trust the care of my cat to an emergency clinic with which I have no pre-established relationship or trust. My advice? Go to https://www.tempepet.com/ to get your vaccinations done -- it's much cheaper. There's no point in paying premium prices with Tempe Vet Hospital if they won't be there when you really need it. read more

This vet's office is wonderful! About a year ago they saved my puppy's life when noone else would help me because I didnt have 1000's of dollars available. They gave my puppy the emergency care she needed to be treated for parvo at a affordable price. They then sent me me home with a care kit since I couldnt afford to keep her their and taught me how to care for her myself . They were very sweet and caring. We originally came here about 2 years ago when I relocated from Texas. My boxer, 5 years old at the time, was due for annual vaccines. About a year ago, we adopted a puppy that was dumped in their office. Since then, both our dogs have gone in for dental care, annual exams, boarding, surgery, emergency visits, and grooming, and the staff has always taken good care of us! Our animals have seen all three vets here. Our boxer recently had to undergo surgery for some trouble growths. To just start off the front desk staff are incredibly rude. I have been taking my cat there for over a year, and will not be back. I took my kitten in to get his first round of shots. They gave him all three in the same place. Come to find out this left a lump at the injection site. I took him back to the vet and was told this can happen from him moving around and should go away. It did go away in about a month or so. Then fast forward about a year, I took him back to get three more shots last week. I think he might've had some sort of reaction because he threw up and my cat has never thrown up once since I've had him. I called and was worried about him and they told me the doctor would call after his lunch. Never called until the next day? Thankfully my cat started feeling better. So today I was holding him and felt ANOTHER large lump at injection site! I called and the women at the front desk was very dismissive and seemed bothered by my call. This has been my interaction almost every single time I have been on the phone with them this past year. And when I did call today they didn't ask how my cat was feeling from 2 days ago when I called to say he was throwing up. I would not recommend this place as they obviously Messed up my cats shots more then once and are incredibly rude. Never again. read more

This is the first vet I've been too since moving to Arizona. I loved the atmosphere inside, it's large and gives enough room for pets to be comfortable. The staff at the front desk were very friendly and helpful. I had an appointment at 3:15 and wasn't seen until after 4pm. They were very busy at the time so I understood. Seemed like they had a huge clientele. Dr. Wells was very helpful, easy to talk too, and patient with my dog. Check out was quick and easy, I didn't purchase everything they recommended only the important things because everyone knows vet bills can get high. They didn't pressure me to get anything that I didn't want to! There is a good sized grass area behind the building which was great to let my pup run around a little before and after to make it a fun experience and for bathroom breaks. read more
