Thai Iced Tea and Sunny With a Chance of Matcha

I was visiting Davis and craving matcha, so I stopped by and ordered the Cloudy With a Chance of Matcha, from what looked like their seasonal menu. It was sooo good, 10/10! The original recipe does contain dairy/heavy cream, but they were able to make it with a non-dairy coconut option instead, which was great! It was very busy but the line went pretty fast. The girls working were also very friendly and efficient. If only I had this cafe where I lived, I would be here often!

I really enjoy Temple Coffee and have been to the majority of their locations. I came here years ago for a drink but stopped at the Davis location most recently to get some beans for gifts. Service was friendly and attentive. Seating definitely can be a challenge. There's a row of seating along the window and that was fully occupied on a late weekday morning.

Wow, what an awesome coffee shop to stumble upon during our roadtrip! It was packed, but the workers were quick to take orders. I tried the matcha latte and I appreciate being asked if I'd like sweeter or not. The matcha itself was the perfect amount of bitterness and not diluted. A big highlight was the pastries, the lemon poppy seed pound cake was light and coffee cake donut had a delightfully soft bite to it. Highly suggest checking out Temple, parking might take a bit to find too!

Perhaps one of the best matcha lattes you can get in Davis. I said it! The interior of the cafe is very modern and minimal, the furniture is very unique to the place, I love the plants. When you come to a cafe to do work, its nice to see unique touches and greenery. Its a very busy cafe, but I argue its the great work of the baristas on deck! Lattes that are coming out of a college town cafe are way better because the baristas just know our palettes and the integrity of making a drink. When I placed an order for my matcha, the baristas went straight to the rigorous whisking, and it takes legitimate arm strength to get frothy matcha. Its not for the weak. The seasonal drink items tell me that they are likely making their syrups in house. The pastry case looked amazing. Also since my drink was made to order the temperature was perfect. I had a great tasting experience. For students: since it is crowded it is a hit or miss whether you can find seating, let alone outlets. Wifi is available.

This coffee shop is great. Convenient location in downtown, consistent quality, friendly service, and good buzz. Line can get long but it goes surprisingly quick. There's decent amount of space for students to bring their laptops...though I don't really know how you can get much studying done with all the commotion. Anyways...highly recommended!

It was packed with a line out the door on a Sunday. When there is a line, they take your order while you're in line, before you reach the register. The inside was well lit with plenty of natural sunlight. While waiting in line, we tried the coffee sample they had available. The wonder blend was super fruity. I was surprised that coffee could even taste like that. I didn't like it but my boyfriend took a bag home. I got one of their specials at the moment. the Camp Crush - "fresh watermelon syrup, vibrantly paired with matcha and sparkling water". I didn't like it and didn't end up finishing it. My friend also tried it and didn't like it. There are a lot of pastries on display next to the register. You're bound to find something you like

My husband is an espresso hound. We stopped in here when he was in need of a good shot of espresso. He was very impressed. He said the Dharma espresso is every bit as good as his favorite espresso at his favorite shop. I don't drink coffee but tea is for me!! I had a Sencha Kyoto green tea. Bonus points for it being loose leaf tea and they do not put it in a bag to steep. It was served in a lovely ceramic pot with a removable steeping basket. Their selection of goodies was pretty picked over but what they had looked good. They do have various coffee and tea accessories and lots of bags of coffee for sale. We come to Davis often. This will make it on our rotation of places to visit when we are in Davis. The service was efficient and friendly. The interior is bright and pleasant. Lots of students working on their laptops. It is lively and charming inside. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

Clean, modern interior with SF vibes. Bench, counter, and table seating both indoors & out. Greeting people in line with a smile is always a great way to start customer engagement, and that's consistently the case here. The free sample of their newest (or fav) brew is also a nice touch while you're in line. The espresso is solid, perfect temperature, and served with a glass of sparkling (as it should always be). Lots of good looking pastries, but not much of a morning snack collection if you are looking for some protein. My vote for the best espresso spot in town.

I came here around 7AM in the morning, and there were a couple of people inside doing some work/ drinking coffee. The barista was nice greeting me and grabbed my order before I headed to the register. I ended up getting a bear claw to eat and a matcha latte with oat milk. It was little bit pricey with me spending around $13. Bear Claw: This pastry was pretty solid. There was a nice flakiness to the pastry and the filling was not overly sweet. The pastry was a pretty solid bear claw. Matcha Latte (w/ Honey): The baristas brought the drink out to where I was sitting. The drink was more on the bitter side (which I enjoy), and I didn't taste too much of the sweetness. As I was finishing up my food, it got really busy with about 10+ people coming in and forming a line. This place can get really busy with limited seating to work/ study so be wary of that if you decide to come in. Nonetheless, it was a great place to enjoy my morning drink. I love to see this Davis staple continuing to thrive.

This is my second time visiting this spot. The first time I stopped in for an iced matcha and this time I tried an matcha latte with almond milk and a hint of sweetener. The matcha is quite nice and the atmosphere has a cool vibe. The first time I visited I had a cinnamon pastry and it was good. I'm not a coffee connoisseur or anything, but Temple Coffee Roasters has some of the best coffee I've ever had! I just tried the cold brew and a latte, both had very good flavors and enough caffeine to do the job. They offer various beans from different places, but I did not select anything specific. Prices are about the same as anywhere else, but the quality and service is much better. The interior is fairly small, but I was able to find a spot and it was a nice relaxing place to hang out for a bit. I was just visiting the area, but wish they had more locations in other places. read more

Probably the best set-up for coffee in Davis. Ample seating with the outdoor setup and wonderful staff who are friendly and kind. I ordered an iced latte with an additional shot and it did the trick...strong without being too overwhelming or bitter. Overall, a good environment with beautiful decor inside and ample space outside with traffic being blocked off on the street. a delightful coffee spot. i came to temple with a friend to study and decided to try out one of their drinks, the london fog latte. i love how temple provides you with the option to have your drinks either dine-in or to-go! if you choose the dine-in option, the baristas provide you with your drink in a mug along with wonderful latte art. as for my london fog, they provided me with a mini kettle that had loose leaf tea and milk inside so that i can pour my own drink! how cute! i've gotta say that both drinks tasted pretty good overall. if you are looking for a place to romanticize your study space, temple is a very cute coffee shop to come to. the only issue is the place is pretty small and they are always filled with people looking to study or do some work. BUT, that just goes to show how great this coffee place is! be ready to wait out for a seat at temple. my favorite thing about temple is their coffee beans. i've tried their dharma and riqueza and both are sooooo good. but riqueza has to be my all-time favorite. if you have an espresso machine and are in need of new espresso beans to try, hit up temple. you won't regret it. read more

The staff here were not friendly! I had never been to this location and didn't realize you order from the barista and not at the cash register (no one was in front of me), but the cashier made sure to point out that I ordered wrong. I've come to this Davis location twice, and have been impressed both times! I frequent the Sacramento locations as I'm a local, and now that I attend UC Davis it's lovely to know that the standard of drinks and customer service carries over! The baristas are lovely, drinks are always made perfectly, and there's plenty of outdoor seating! Even their bathroom is open, which is a rarity nowadays (and good to note if it's an emergency). The Mexican mocha is my favorite thing to get, especially with oat milk! Their beans are awesome for making pour overs at home too :) read more

Dont get me wrong, The staff is always very nice and friendly and at certain times of the day its a nice spot to chill and get some work done. Mostly people come here as a spot to study but the coffee and food are not great. Since its a popular study place its usually very full and little to no seating. This last time I ordered a chai latte and muffin the barista suggested that had nuts on top. The muffin was okay at best, and the chai latte tasted like straight water. This place has high reviews because of the vibes and staff, which is amazing. Honestly though if you want good coffee and food id go somewhere else. read more

I've attended UC Davis about 10 years ago and when I finally visited downtown I noticed this hipster coffee shop that I've always wanted to try. Since I had to come here for a quick paper signing for something for work, social distancing was enforced and they have a tent and tables outside. The workers were all really friendly and nice and there was no wait. I got the seasonal ginger snap latte with oat milk and it was pretty good for a holiday drink, it wasn't too sweet for me but I feel like the coffee could be a little bit stronger. I would definitely come back and pick up another drink while in the area. read more

Beautiful coffee shop in the heart of Downtown Davis. We stopped in on a downtown stroll as we toured the area. The barista was super personable and made us both feel really welcome to the town and gave us some tips on things to do and see. Coffee is good. Awesome place to grab a good cup of coffee. I love how friendly the baristas are and I haven't ever had a bad experience with the beverages here. I think their matcha lattes are good, but the coffee is what I typically splurge for here. The vegan lemon lavender muffin I had today was a great compliment to the coffee! I'm glad I got it! My go-to order is a vanilla soy latte and they always make it the perfect level of sweet. I think Temple is the best coffee place in downtown Davis! read more

*** Vegetarian and Vegan Review *** *** Muffin Review Only *** Temple Coffee Roasters is an award winning coffee shop and isn't that far away from being named one of the top-six roasters in the country. I think it was in 2013 or 2014. With that said, I will never know. Closer to my 50s than my 40s, I've actually only had about a 1/2 cup of coffee my entire life and that was in my early 20s. Just know, when you go to Temple, you can expect a high quality product and I can attest to the high level of fast and friendly service. Behind the glass display case, you'll see an array of vegan and gluten-free baked goods provided by Sugar Plum Vegan. So to meet all your donut and muffin sweet cravings, here's your vegan, GF spot. They also have butter croissants, bear claws, and a variety of cookies, but these are not vegan or gluten-free. Comparisons: There are plenty of reasons to visit Santa Cruz -- Rebecca's Mighty Muffins is another one. There selection of vegan and gluten-free goodies that not only have better texture, but just taste better. Tips for 1st-Timers: 1. Parking is all street and can be difficult at all times of the day. Find a spot and walk the short Davis blocks. Vegan, GF, Soy Free Blueberry Muffin (Grade B-): This is a classic muffin. This is probably the muffin that everyone learns how to bake from a Betty Crocker box before the age of 10. High bar because of the life-time career of eating blueberry muffins. So when you take that first bite and expect to get a textural component associated with a "muffin top" and it's not there, it's a downhill experience for every bite after that. Is it tasty? Yes. As a matter of fact, it's very Betty Crockery which isn't a bad thing. If someone gave me one, would I eat it? Yes. But I need more muffin top! Vegan, GF, Soy Free Mocha Brownie Muffin (Grade B) It's chocolate bliss and doesn't lack any flavor. This would be a good option for your non-vegan, non-vegetarian friends that make comments like, "I'll take extra gluten on my food." The problem is the same -- muffins need a muffin top. It's a food law. Yes I would eat this again, but it's not a sweet treat that I'd bring my visiting family and friends to try. Overall restaurant observations: 1. Beautiful space to gather with a group for a social meet-up. Also has plenty of space to break out your laptop and get some studying in. 2. The service was friendly, personable, and fast. Bottom line, this has an overall 4-star rating so keep in mind this was just for the baked goods provided by Sugar Plum Vegan. The roasting is award winning and recognized country-wide and the space is so beautiful, we are very fortunate to have Temple in Downtown Davis. read more

A great place for studying or reading! Outdoor seating and wifi available. Be aware it's pretty busy, so for those that need a quiet workspace this may not be the best fit. For those that find the bustle good for creativity this is the place to be! Excellent decor and clean workspaces and delicious drinks. They have a wonderful selection of seasonal baked goods. Their almond croissant and creme fraiche blueberry muffin are deliciousness. Their gingersnap steamer is the perfect fall drink of those looking to start autumn without a jolt of caffeine. Their chai is also excellent! My favorite all year long is their Mexican Mocha with oatmilk. It's well spiced, dark, chocolatey and mysterious. Stop by if you're looking for a great place to grab a drink with a friend or study for a bit. read more

5 stars for the interior aesthetics and amazing service! It was my first time visiting Davis this past Saturday and this place looked like the best coffee shop in the area so I bookmarked this spot to remember to make a stop for it. The two baristas working at the time were super nice and helpful as we were deciding which drink to get. We went with the Quince Espresso Spritzer and it was definitely refreshing but a little too sweet for my taste. I'm sure you could ask them to adjust the sweetness for you though. Next time I might just go for a more basic iced latte drink. I'll be back when I visit again! read more

Hands down, my go-to coffee roaster. I've been coming for years, well before the Pandemic. I always order a pour-over, you can't go wrong with any of their choices. Do yourself a favor and lean towards the flavor notes they list, that'll make your experience a lot better. Staff are always friendly, no matter how busy it is. If you come enough you'll make some new friends as staffing rarely changes. If it's too busy indoors, the shaded seating outside is always the place to go. Be careful though, while UCD is in session, this place is a mad house and seating is very challenging. Don't skip on Temple, you'll miss out. read more

Last Sunday was my second visit to Temple. My dental hygienist had recommended Temple as her husband and I both attended UC Davis. What a treat! From the moment you walk through the doors, greetings and the most friendly service from everyone behind the counter. I've tried their Mexican Mocha and Dirty Chai and both are sooo good! My kids had their Bliss and Enlightenment teas. So soothing; instantly puts you in the best mood. My only "disappointment" is not trying this place until now. Temple Coffee Roasters is the truth in Sacramento area coffee joints. They follow the formula for snob coffee shop to a tee. I'm not even going to list out what that means as I have in many previous reviews about. Now, I'm not saying this in a bad light--I love it! Coffee is great, there are lots of seats (since mostly community style) and the wifi is decent! They say you're limited to 3 hours which basically means you get cut off at the 3-hour mark but you can just re-logon. They're known for their cold brews (Kyoto Cold Brew and Nitro Uncut Cold Brew) so I'd try one out if you're looking for something unique. Wow. I don't think I'll ever find a better cafe. First off, the interior design is simple yet elegant. There is ample seating in the center and along the windows. Great for getting done work done! My sister recommended me to come by here to get their coffee drink. My husband and I came here on last Sunday before meet up my sister. We easily found street parking that close to the coffee shop. We saw many people inside the shop and worry might not have space to sit down. But incredibly, the shop is spacious and also can have outdoor seating. My hubby lined and ordered one chai latte for me and the other one was latte for himself. I was seated there while waiting for him to pay and ready to get our coffee from counter. The staff really working efficient as they take order first and then when you pay, they get the coffee ready. Both coffees were good. My chai latte was little caffeine and taste really smooth to me. I am a huge fan of this Temple location. I always enjoy my drinks and it's a great place to get work done. The lighting is beautiful and it's on a corner with a good amount of visual interest outside. Somehow I seem to get good luck when I go. If you want to find the best latte, this place is the best one. I have been trying many coffee shops but this place is the best place for vannilla latte. There vannilla syrup is very smooth and the coffee roast is strong and lingery which make it the best combination for a latte. I love all the staff here also. They are super friendly and kind. I've been coming here for a decade and their quality has only improved. There is now a Tesla Supercharger so navigate to that instead of the cafe so that your Tesla preconditions while you enjoy your morning. They no longer support their own app and have turned the keys over to Square to create an account to make it easier to pay and reorder. The ready times you get in the app are later than it's usually ready so I recommend giving them 10-20 minutes lead time. Here's my rating of the variety of foods and drinks I've tried. Undertow - 8 - Fun twist on a cortado as the half and half is cold and they add a splash of vanilla. The hot espresso is carefully floated on top of the milk so that when you drink you feel the cold "underflow" of vanilla milk. Cortado- 8 - Small but powerful sip of espresso. I prefer it with half and half and a touch of sugar over Journey's method but it is a tasty sip. Lavender Latte - -10 - the best version of a lavender latte you'll ever have. Cherry Blossom Latte - 9 - The cherry syrup is very forward but blends nicely into the latte which gives it light finish. The coffee does get a touch lost so add an extra shot. Citrus Cocoa Latte - 9 - The orange syrup is prevalent throughout the drink but the cocoa starts to stand up more the last half of the drink. I don't prefer chocolate drinks but this doesn't taste like a mocha at all. Very well done Journey!!! Veggie n Egg Breakfast Wrap - 7 - Light and flavorful but needs some pop from another ingredient. We usually ask to skip the spam, but everything else in the soup, at least one person in it family will eat. Quail egg, fried tofu, chicken thigh, green leeks, peanuts, sliced beef, thin tofu sheets (and I'm probably missing a few ingredients!) 2. Chicken Cutlet with meat sauce over rice: if we are getting at least two items, this is for sure one of them. Excellent flavor on the peppery batter on the juicy chicken and the meat sauce and pickled veggies are an excellent combination. 3. Zha Jiang Mien: First time trying it. Two of us liked it. May get, again, next time. We usually prefer the blacker Korean style sauce, but this was pretty good, too. 4. Beef roll: think thinly sliced beef with fresh veggies rolled up in an onion pancake. Everyone in the family likes this dish, but we don't always get it (us wanting to try new things). Sad to see you guys leave your Sacramento... come back, PLEASE!

Now they have their own storefront with a ton more options to customize your meal, and more options and things to order overall. The storefront is not huge, but I don't think it needs to be. It's clean and pretty well organized. The service is also fine. I ordered a combo rice bowl and was glad to be able to add extra toppings like tomatoes in the such. Now, the one thing that they don't do like the old truck used to do is load up with sauce. The old truck used to drown your bowl in sauce whereas now they're a little more conservative, but I imagine you could ask for more if you wanted more. The bowl itself tasted good. It's not going to be the best Halal food that you'll get in Davis or anywhere else in the world, but it tasted nostalgic, and I really enjoyed the whole thing. My husband who is currently on campus more than I am noted that the storefront gives you more food than the food truck at the silo. He also said that the food tasted better here.

As a self acclaimed coffee "snob" in-training it was a huge plus to see them roasting their own beans. I knew the coffee was gonna be good. I got the vanilla lavender earl grey cold foam latte which was a seasonal drink and it was very good. I also got a savory breakfast croissant which I gobbled down before I could take a picture. They had plenty of seating areas so great for students to study or just a place to catch up with friends. Will be back to try a hot coffee next time.

I come here frequently. The coffee is exceptional, but not cheap. It is really beyond me why a student with access to the library and/or their home would choose to study in here though. The seats have no backs to them and the place clearly is catering to a more social "for here" crowd that is present and often extremely loud. The design of the place is nonsensical. There are one or two employees on the espresso or french press and another at the single register and sometimes only one employee during quieter hours. While not an issue when it is not busy, if it is extremely busy or just moderately busy during off hours, the line gets clogged up by a combination of overly inquisitive or indecisive customers and excessive niceties on the part of the employees. The fact that there is only a single register means that you may have to wait longer for your transaction than to place your order, a problem that could easily be fixed by having a second register in the place of a gigantic pastry receptacle. The place would run better if it was designed more like Philz: multiple points at which to order and pay so that no single individual or group can clog up the line. This place is located in a college town and is serving many people with limited time, not just revelers. read more

Temple is the few coffee shops that I enjoy going to. I love how it's closed at 11pm. The only downside of this location is that they only have outlets in one area and that's the furthest back of the building. They also place a 3 hour WiFi time limit which means I will either need to wait an hour or find another place that offers WiFi. In regards to the drink, definitely more on the pricier side, but I expect that from everyone coffee shop now. Pretty much everything on the menu is good! So excited to have Temple Coffee in Davis! Of course the coffee is great (it's Temple, duh) but this location has some special things like nitro coffee and tea on tap, a pour-over bar, and Kyoto Iced Coffee. They have a large selection of tea as well. The interior is GORGEOUS. They pulled out all the stops for this one. Definitely a must-try for those in Davis and a destination spot worth traveling to even if you've been to other Temple's before. read more

I love this place so much but this place has been having an issue with to many bums that they stay near by the coffe shop . Every time I come here I get bothered by them . Also , last time I was here I saw one of the homeless guys snatched the phone of one of the ladies was sitting outside . This place needs a security sooooo bad !!! This place is a nice place to go to if you want to catch up with your friends. The coffee prices are pretty much similar to the local coffee shops in Davis. If you are planning to study, keep in mind that you are only given 3 hour complimentary WiFi. After that, you have to wait 1 hour. Also there are only outlets on the far back of the area so its quite limited. read more

A cafe that belongs on Valencia Street in San Francisco, but located in downtown Davis. I like Temple because of their dark, rich coffee. The design is clean and the baristas are knowledgeable and nice. It's open super early, too. read more
