I tried to love this place. We went here a few times when it first opened. The coffee is amazing. However, we were treated poorly and that is very hard to put aside. I am a 58 year old woman. There were five of us... all of similar age. We were sitting enjoying our coffee and talking. Talking, not yelling. No we had not been drinking. A manager came over to us and asked us to take our conversation outside because "people are studying in here." It was winter and dark out. We did not want to go outside. If silence is required for studying students, that should be posted so we can go somewhere else if we want to socialize. (Or.... Best Cappuccino Ever? (5/5 green stars also) First off, the seating is all on high stools, so you may not want to bring your granny here. Seating aside (you'll have to engage your core if you want to sit there for long) I like the clean feel to the place, and the warmth added by the small lamps dotted around. Nice staff - and the barista made one of the best cappuccinos I've ever had. They clearly make good coffee and also have a lot of beans for sale, including a limited amount of Panama Geisha. They also stock a lot of vegan pastries. I tried two of them - a morning glory donut and morning glory raspberry muffin. Both were good. I'm also giving Temple Coffee Roasters 5/5 "green stars" for social and environmental impact, based on these reasons: * They have a close relationship with coffee farmers and pay above fair trade prices for green coffee. * They provide info on their farmer-suppliers. This place always has great service. Friendly staff who are happy to explain things to you. Their coffee is supreme compared to Starbucks, which in my opinion is watered-down coffee loaded with cream and sugar. This place uses quality coffee. Yes, it's a tad more expensive, but you pay for the quality. As an experiment to this, I drank Starbucks one day around 6pm and was still able to fall asleep at 11:30pm. When I did the same with Temple's coffee, I couldn't sleep until 3:30am. They also have unique flavors of coffee, which changes with season. Temple is one of my favorite coffee shops in Davis. Coming here always puts me in a productive mood. The interior is bright, vibrant, and aesthetic. Potted plants on the wooden tables liven up the atmosphere, and big windows let in a lot of natural light. There is a long table that goes down the middle of the cafe with seats on either side. Counters along the windows and wall provide more seating. The wifi is very fast but they limit it to 3 hours. The servers are always super friendly! I usually get a drip coffee or an iced tea! Located on the corner of 3rd and G st. in Davis it is perfect for a quick in and out coffee run. But the ambiance inside is also perfect for relaxing by the window or studying/doing homework along their long communal table or other tables situated in the corner of the coffee shop. There is even some outdoor seating. My cappuccino with almond milk was perfectly made and beautifully finished with foam art and my mothers americano was perfectly suggested to her by the barista since she wasn't quite sure what she wanted. We also ordered the pull apart monkey bread. I am uncertain if the pastries are made in house or provided locally but I can say that it was delicious and paired perfectly with our mid morning coffees. In fact, all of their pastries in their case looked great and they have a fairly large variety as well. They all appeared fresh also, not stale or stagnant like you see at large chain coffee shops. It was nice looking through their merchandise also. I've been here a few times when I'm in the area and it's always packed, but thankfully the line moves fast. I love their teas and I usually order the Bliss which is my favorite. The last visit my sister ordered the Enlightenment tea which is green tea steeped with soymilk and honey and this concoction was good too. They have some good selections for vegan and gluten free sweet treats. I tried the Morning Glory which is similar to carrot cake and was vegan and gluten free. The texture was similar to 'regular' cake and not too dry. I would order this again. The first time I came to visit my best friend in Davis, I stopped by Temple for a quick cup of coffee. The baristas are all very knowledgable about the menu and can easily give you a good recommendation. My favorites to order are the Mexican mocha and the Enlightenment. Their Mexican mocha has the perfect balance of caffeine, chocolate, and cinnamon mixed together and is great hot or iced. The Enlightenment is a green tea with honey and steamed soy milk and is honestly so perfect. It's not too sweet and the soy milk makes it perfectly balanced. A great, open interior space with high ceilings and lots of natural light, along with a wraparound corner outdoor seating area. Single origin pourovers and espresso drinks served in elegant yet sturdy ceramic and glass; 12oz bags of freshly roasted beans from about 8 different regions and producers; baked goods from places like Sugar Plum in Sacramento displayed attractively in a three tiered glass display case. And cold brew on nitro. What's not to like about Temple Coffee's downtown Davis location? Especially on hot September days, the mornings here are refreshingly calm, cool, and trance inducing pleasant. It is one of the most Zenlike coffeehouses I have ever encountered. A short 10 minute walk from the UC Davis campus is an added bonus, with 2 hour street parking available as well - in the early morning at least! There is free 5G WiFi as well, making this a good off site work base camp when visiting Davis. It is also a very short drive off the I 80 corridor and arguably more laid back and casual than the Sacramento locations. This is a university town, after all. Good coffee is a must! read more

I also appreciate open spaces, natural light, professional service, and fast 5G WiFi. Temple's Davis location on the corner of 3rd and G Streets has them all. I ordered a Burundi Gibraltar with superb lavender lemon muffin and got caught up on work related email from about 7am to 8:15am, with an extra coffee and beans for home to go. Service was great, even a free sample of their Panama coffee offered by the baristas. What class and what excellent service. My favorite go-to drink is the Mexican mocha when I need energy to focus but I've found that each barista at this location does it a bit differently, so the taste is never consistently the same, and at one time I had to request a remake. The enlightenment is my go-to when I need a warm drink to relax. Their gluten free coffee cake/donut is absolutely delicious. The seating inside and outside is lovely, but if you're planning on staying for several hours to work or study, then be sure to have all your devices charged ahead of time and bring an extension cord. There are just 2 outlets available at the seats in front of the bathroom, which is also where the speakers and AC is. There is only 1 bathroom (single person). It's always kept very clean, but the toilet paper is very thin and they don't have paper towels but a hand dryer. Trick here is to grab some of the napkins near the sugar station at the back before going in. No changing table for infants although there is ample room on the wall to install one. Bulletin board is a great way to check out current events while waiting in line. Others at the shop are very friendly and always willing to watch your belongings while you wait for the restroom. read more

Temple is no doubt the newest coffee place in Davis. The decor as impressive and the whole coffee shop had a modern and fresh vibe to it. The ambiance is casual and it's a good place to catch up with friends on a weekend. (Although the tables are probably too small to study on.) But if only the coffee quality matched the hype... I got a soy latte and while the coffee itself wasn't awful, it certainly wasn't excellent. The foam was also badly done and the coffee was not as smooth as I would have liked. Not to mention, this place is pretty overpriced. Had my coffee tasted a little better or the price been a little cheaper would I have been more satisfied. The only upside was that the baristas are very polite and nice. I haven't tried their tea selection yet, but I probably wouldn't frequent here anytime soon. Maybe I just caught them on a bad day, but judging from this recent time, I definitely prefer Mishka's coffee. read more

VEGAN OPTIONS - Yes. This is probably my favourite Temple location. The staff is very friendly, they have indoor and outdoor seating, and the drink consistency is always on point. Temple is my go-to spot for a cappuccino and other espresso based beverages in the Sacramento area. They have a good selection of alternative milks (Almond, Oat & Soy), the Dharma blend beans make a delicious espresso, and the drinks are consistently well made. The seasonal drinks are great - I've especially been enjoying the Ginger Snap Latte, but the Mocha is a standard that always tastes delicious. I've purchased the Dharma beans whole to grind and brew at home (Moka pot style), and they perform very well in a home environment - although they obviously shine best when brewed through a professional grade machine.
