Very strong cold brew- one of very few places that I have to add a splash of whole milk. But the coffee is excellent and deep. Because I am rarely in this town, I love coming here not just for the cold brew but also to get one of their crazy 1 inch thick chocolate chip cookies, whether I eat it that day or another day in the week, it is perfection! They have so many great baked items. You really can't go wrong. Their almond croissant is excellent as well. This coffee spot is of another level that never existed in the Davis I knew 30 years ago which back then, would've only gotten as good as Café, Roma, or the original Peet's in Berkeley/& kinda maybe when when opened one in Davis. This is "the" place to come to for real Coffee & Teas and baked goods. It's definitely five star level after my many visits now. The staff is very knowledgeable and cheerfully chatty, always a pleasant experience, there is a professionalism to the staff here I rarely see elsewhere. Crowded: Many past times this place is packed with students/staff and laptops- even the outdoors can be full. Weekends. But the line is always moving! If you happen here at daytime class hours you can relax in one of the many stools or chairs and a bit of countertop that is sprawling and relaxed. I was having a hard time with classes starting back up, and the employee who was working could sense I wasn't having the best day. She kindly asked how I was doing, and we began a little small talk as I ordered. As we got to the front, we were still talking and she kindly gave me a word of advice to finish through the week. The thai tea here is an ABSOLUTE NO... What is this? Where is the color? It tasted like chai to me. Their seasonal sparkling yuzu matcha however, is good. Service is good and the ambiance is perfect for studying. But it does not make up for this thai tea. read more

Temple is SUCH a lovely treat. It is a gorgeous study environment, has super high quality coffee, and some of the friendliest workers in all of Davis - they very seriously can make enjoyable small talk out of anything, it is impressive. Unfortunately, it is extremely expensive for a coffee shop, especially any of their seasonal or specialty drinks (which don't have prices on the menu) so you will easily spend $8+ on a single, quite small drinks. I have also had incredibly positive experiences with their baked goods, which are locally sourced, fresh, and very yummy :) But overall, it is a great place to go every once in a while, when you can budget in a little splurge! Have to give kudos. This coffee roaster knows their craft and are wise in business. At least, for consumers like me, that enjoy friendliness, consistency and quality. Craft coffee is such a beautiful world. People come together, share the most precious thing we have, our time, and enjoy (in this type shop) a meticulously delivered product. I use to travel for work domestically a lot. Craft coffee shops around the country were a welcome environment when away from home. Boxcar in Boulder. Flying Goat in Santa Rosa and Healdsburg. Sadly now only Healdsburg I believe. Cartel in Az (specifically love the one in the dirty T, Tucson near U of A). And many others. Our little family unit is heading to NorCal from San Diego where we have an abundance of good coffee options. Moving posed a problem. Lots of shops are good. But few are consistent.... We've been to temple before but we didn't realize what a gem it is. It was a random holiday or two. We landed in Sac. Stopped in for a drink. Quickly out. Fast forward to this year. I'm 5 stops into the passport promotion, just because I want to see how consistent they truly are. And they are! I'm blown away. The drinks, yes, incredible. But. The staff is friendly. They fluidly greet you (in todays world where eye contact is made 99% w your phone) they greet everyone, and allow you to choose your espresso roast, and they make suggestions. Wait. What.. Greet me. Chat me up. Guide me. Yes. Yes. Yes. Even the current buy two bags get a mug promo is done, dare I say tactfully. The passport idea is beautiful. Whomever came up with it is the type business person I enjoy working with. Supporting a cause related to local homelessness.. I'm all in. Making it fun for folks to want to visit more shops and also spend more. I am literally driving around on my 36 hour trips to town preparing for our move, hitting Temple shops to get my punches. So there it is. Temple has made our quickly approaching move to Sac seem that much more fun and exciting on the coffee front. And. High quality coffee, just pricey because the cost of coffee keeps increasing, and I purchased a specialty hand drip.

We always see a long line here, so we thought we would check it out today. The line was as long as usual but service was relatively fast! We got two iced matcha lattes, one with oat milk and brown sugar, and one with honey and whole milk (pictured). These didn't stun us, as both seemed to be more milk than anything else. The honey one was appropriately sweetened, but the matcha flavor just did not stand out at all. The oat milk one tasted solely of oat milk, with almost no other flavors beside. I would come back to try the coffee, but matcha is definitely skippable. read more

So this location has been here over 8 years and Temple coffee in general is over 18 years old. This is a rare instance where a business just gets better. They have weathered Covid and the shops remain without peer. Staff is very knowledgeable and well trained in all things coffee and they just seem to hire the most pleasant people. Coffee is terrific from cappuccino to latte to cold brew to pour over. Staff tends to stay working at Temple a long time (a couple of them I remember from 15 years ago!) and that is a good sign of a positive work environment. Not a lot of flavored or blended coffee type drinks so if that's your thing there are those places I'm town. This is a coffee centric establishment. If you want a place to study you may be disappointed in the number of outlets so charge up or maybe use the library. Nice outdoor seating is a plus in good weather. My only gripe - is the pastries. While this shop is awesome, the people are friendly and they carry great beans.. I am giving up on getting pour overs here. The first time I came last year, I got a really killer cup. The last three times I've tried, I've gotten some of the worst cups of coffee I've ever had. There's a huge disparity in quality depending on who's making your cup. Trip this morning was frustrating because I asked the price of the Ethiopia pour over before ordering, and was told a different price than what I ended up paying. $7.70 is way too much to pay for a bitter, over extracted cup of coffee. I got my morning coffee here three separate times during a trip to Davis, and each time it was an excellent experience. I like coffee a lot, and found their espresso to be rich and flavorful, well-pulled shots. It was perfect as an almond milk latte (hot or iced.) They usually have samples of their coffees, too, and I enjoyed getting to try some other brews and bought a bag of beans to take home. The service was quick and the staff were all very friendly. I finally decided to snatch up a passport, which if you're a die hard fan as I am (I happen to also be coincidentally wearing one of their hoodies as I write this) and you travel around for your Temple Coffee fix, it's a deal and worth getting. Since I was on my way to San Francisco, it made sense to have a pit stop in Davis to start the passport as it's the location I visit the least. This Temple is unsurprisingly student-focused. It's small inside and there's not much seating. Every time I've been here it's pretty much packed to standing room only and a line to the door. Luckily it is pretty centrally located in downtown Davis, so parking right in front can be hit or miss, but you're in a totally walkable area of town to take your beverage to-go. I've never had a bad drink here (it is Temple Coffee after all) but this is by far my least favorite of all the Temple locations given how cramped it can be and one I only stop at on rare occasion as a result. Hopefully in the future they can expand to a larger location that can provide more seating for customers to enjoy a coffee indoors. read more

While their drinks are pricey - the specialty lattes can cost nearly $8 - I'll make the occasional splurge for excellent quality. Everything I've ordered has been wonderful, but if I time my visit right, I get the seasonal Gingersnap Latte. What a beautiful and hip coffee shop in Downtown Davis! We were driving home from Sac and it was an easy stop off the highway. We went on a Sunday and found street parking out front. Love the bright, modern interior with clean lines, wood textures, plants, and lots of natural light. Also love the warm, friendly service. We ordered 2 iced lattes - the espresso was smooth and not bitter. My other half exclaimed that this was his favorite iced latte EVER! All of their pastries looked fresh and delicious. He enjoyed a lemon-blueberry scone which was very moist, and I liked my slice of banana bread with walnuts and chocolate chips in it. We took our treats to go, but if you want to stay there's plenty of seating: inside along the windows and central wood table, outside in front and around the side of the building. I was just up here a month ago and remembered I have to update this review to read "The Best coffee shop in Davis." I learned that this genius place pre mixes it's chocolate milk for its mochas, steams the chocolate milk, and adds it to more chocolate!!! You may be thinking it sounds like too much chocolate, well nobody pays you to think and you couldn't be more wrong. It's perfect, the perfect combination of chocolate, milk, and espresso. Top that off with an almond croissant and I'm over here screaming like Sally Albright (Meg Ryan) in When Harry Met Sally, "yes! Yes! Yes!" Everyone in Temple has now seen my O-Face and I'm not ashamed to say it. One sip of this magnificent mocha and a bite of the densely filled almond croissant got my toes curling, eyes crossing, and well you get the gist. When finished with my breakfast I felt as if I had been unfaithful, and it wasn't going to be the only time as I plan on returning for more of this deliciousness. That's this critic's review, until next time, I'll be eating. Yelp is reminding me I didn't mention the ambIance. This place is great inside with its window seating and long wooden central island bar. The only problem is like every other coffee shop in Davis, it's filled with inconsiderate UC Davis students that somehow find loud coffee shops with heavy foot traffic the best place to post up with their laptops, taking up 2 spots with their backpacks for hours, so that someone who just wants to sit with their coffee and pastries, eat and leave like a normal respectful patron, has to wait around for a spot to open, sit apart from friends, or go outside. Apparently a $5 cup of coffee entitles these students to rent a portion of the coffee shop for far too long, in fact one review even mentioned they decided to get a drink AFTER coming here to study as if this place were a part of the college and not a place of business. I never understood the fascination of wanting to be seen studying. Go home people. Go to the library. Go somewhere that doesn't have a fast turn over of customers needing a quick place to sit before moving on with our days. Back in my day, a long time ago in a galaxy far away called San Diego, I often found the college library to have great wifi, great lighting, ample room, other college students, and a plethora of information.
