I absolutely adore this little massage studio. The monthly membership makes it easy to commit to regular massages and self care. I've seen several different therapist here and all are great, but my personal favorite is Ara. His background in sports massage and myofascial release offers gentle but targeted deep tissue work without causing too much pain, which I dont like during a massage. I want it to be relaxing while still effectively releasing tension which is a skill Ara has mastered, in my opinion. I usually doze off by the end of it which is perfect. After a very long and stressful week, I needed relief. I started googling nearby spots for massages, and Templework LA showed up. I was thoroughly intruiged by the combination of energy work and traditional massages. As I looked through the website, I was overwhelmed with the choices, so I figured I would call and see what the staff recommended based on what I needed. I called and I ended up speaking with the owner, Anna Marie. She was so lovely through the phone, and I appreciated the energy she was giving me through our quick call alone. She just so happened to have a cancellation that day, so I got to see her same day! I booked a 75-minute combo session. I made my way over, and parking can be a bit hectic. I parked on one of the small side neighborhood streets without a time limit, so I had peace of mind for parking. The short walk over was relaxing, and it got me in the mindset to receive an amazing session. I walked into this unassuming, concrete building into a small, essence filled oasis. Anna Marie greeted me, and had me take off my shows for a pair of their blue slippers. We went to the room where I'd have my session, and we chatted a bit about what was going on. Talking to Anna Marie felt like talking to a friend: No BS, giving it to me straight, but I know it came from love! haha Then I got situated on the table ready to go. First was the massage. The massage was just the right amount of light pressure. She would check in with me periodically, which I really appreciated. The massage was gentle, and during the massage, I wondered... how will I feel since this is such a gentle touch? Then started the second part of my session: reiki. I had never done a reiki session before, so I had no idea what I was in for. Next thing I know, the session is over, and Anna Marie says I slept like a log. WHAT? I thought I was awake the whole time. It was trippy to say the least. I was truly mindblown. After the session, Anna Marie was kind enough to give me a few more minutes of her time to address my many questions, because I was like, what just happened? After our brief chat, I got a nice little new client welcome bag, a cold water bottle, and left my session feeling absolutely amazing, joyful, elated. No words to describe other than just lots of positivity. The next day, I was a bit sore, but not in the way that it hurt or anything. And I thought, how is this so? Anna Marie was so incredibly light and gentle with her massage. What is my body doing? After doing a few stretches, my body would feel great again. Three days later, my body feels wonderful. Omg I got the best 90 minute prenatal massage here from Marie! I want to keep her a secret so I can see her all the time but she is a miracle worker and made me feel so light and amazing afterwards! Parking might be a little hard to find there as it's basically only street parking available. Inside everyone is super nice and attentive. They clean and sanitize the rooms between each customer as is expected, but as soon as I walked in I felt a sense of calm. Maybe it was the incredible essential oils they were diffusing. Every time I walk out of Templework, I feel like a melted stick of butter. I've gone here for my "usual" -- Craniosacral Massage Blend with Anna Marie, cupping with Marie, and most recently, Neuroflow Therapeutic Deep Massage Blend with Michael. WOW. On all fronts. I LOVE my craniosacral massage to keep me balanced. Anna Marie is an intuitive wizard of a massage therapist -- and a beautiful human being to boot. She listens to my concerns and always gives a bit of extra TLC to any hurting parts. The oils and stones are a bonus! Never overpowering. Always the perfect balance. I've also had a cupping session with Marie who is amazing. It only hurt a little but in a GREAT/ I-TOTALLY-NEEDED-THAT kinda way. I felt like all the pain and tightness in my achey body was sucked out of me. She also does a great job giving extra attention to parts that are "talking to me." I left feeling so much lighter. My most recent massage was an "emergency" massage with Michael. Thank God Anna Marie was able to get me in so quickly! I slept funny and woke up with a HORRIBLE knot in my back that led to neck/arm/ shooting pain and Anna Marie got me in with Michael who was INCREDIBLE. The Neuroflow massage was more honed in on de-knotting, deep breathing and REALLY opening up my body in new ways. I LOVED IT. Michael is so knowledgeable and really did a fantastic job helping me to understand how things are connected in my body. He also gave me some homework! (He showed me how to use a tennis ball and trigger-point roller to keep my body open bn sessions.) I'm deeply grateful for Templework! I'm going to break my review-food-only rule to sing the praises of TempleWork, specifically Blaize, who has magically cured some pretty severe pain both times I've gone to see him. The first time was a mere few days after a car accident and my neck was screaming. He gently (and avoiding the bruised parts of the rest of my body) realigned it enough that I could handle a 35 hour week long drive across the country without being in terrible pain the whole time. Despite having moved to another state, the first thing I did on my first work trip back to LA six months later was book another session with Blaize. I had thrown my back out climbing and it just wasn't getting better like it normally does. I had been inactive for almost a month, trying yoga and stretching in vain, only to re-injure it every time I tried going back to the gym. Enter Blaize's magical technique - after a 75 minute massage from him, I tried climbing the following week and so far so good! I can honestly say I've never found another massage therapist as good as Blaize - and now I live 3000 miles away. In Crystal healing, I immensely believe in the power the crystals have because they come naturally from the earth. With somebody with the knowledge of how to use these crystals (Anne Marie), where to place them and combination with massage is good on both spiritual and physical level. Oh how I do love Atwater Village. It just keeps getting better and better! A couple of weekends ago, a friend and I decided to go to Huntington Gardens on a Saturday, (if you haven't been, YOU MUST GO!) and thought a massage afterwards would be the way to go. I called to make an appointment a couple days in advance and Anna Marie was so lovely and sweet on the phone! I quickly made appointments for both of us. After a day filled with fragrant flowers in bloom at the gardens, we made our way to Templeworks. It's small, but super clean, peaceful and inviting. Anna Marie was my massage therapist/healer and wow. Just wow. I was in a trance of a half-dream/half-meditative state for the whole hour. She seemed to hold her hands over my body at time, almost listening to my body?! I don't know what she was listening for, or what she could sense, but it was one of the best massages I've web had in my life. Their prices may be a bit more than the $40/hour places that are everywhere, but if you want a clean and truly therapeutic experience, this is the place to go. I went to see Wilson yesterday for Visceral Manipulation. What an amazing treatment! He did an assessment of my posture and overall body mechanics and then went right into the session. He is so present with what he is doing, and I really felt like there was some deep unwinding that was happening as he did the work. It was different than anything else I experienced.
