Had the best experience with my first exam and teeth cleaning at Tend! Having recently moved from FL to MA I needed to find a new local dentist and I found my new place! The staff was very friendly and very thorough in my cleaning and exam. My only feedback is having the ability to do my Invisalign consult and molds in the same visit and having free parking for patients. Let's see how the Invisalign process goes! I will be back in 3 weeks for the consult and then likely another appointment for the molds. Tend needs to work on that process! read more

Avoid Tend Dental at All Costs I cannot recommend Tend to anyone considering Invisalign or any form of dental care. Dr. Shane has been excellent throughout my treatment. He is thorough, professional, and genuinely invested in his patients. It is frustrating to see someone so capable working for a company this disorganized. I have spent nearly $7,000 on Invisalign and followed every instruction carefully. My primary goal was to correct a single rotated tooth that had relapsed after prior orthodontic treatment. I saw Dr. Shane on June 16 after progressing through tray 28 of 36. At that point, we determined the tooth had enough space to rotate, but it was not responding to the current treatment plan. Dr. Shane recommended I try tray 29 for two weeks to see if it would improve. When it didn't, I returned on June 26 and he rescanned me for refinement trays to move forward. Since that June 26 appointment, no progress has been made. It is now early August and I have received no new trays, no update, and no timeline. I have been wearing tray 29 for nearly a month and a half. It is deteriorating, full of holes, and has become uncomfortable to wear. I communicated this clearly to the staff. After "checking" twice and confirming that my trays were physically at the office prior to my scheduled appointment, I was notified less than an hour before the visit that the wrong trays had been sent by the lab. Instead of taking accountability or expediting a solution, I was simply rescheduled three more weeks out -- as if that was an acceptable response to wearing a deteriorating aligner for over six weeks. There was no urgency, no escalation, and no regard for the impact this delay would have on my treatment. Adding to the frustration, Tend routes all scheduling and communication through a centralized call center. You cannot speak directly with the local office. Even basic requests turn into drawn-out back-and-forth exchanges with someone who has no knowledge of your treatment or any relationship with your provider. I explicitly requested a call from someone in leadership -- twice. Instead, I received a generic email more than a week later saying my concern had been forwarded to studio management. No one ever followed up. No one seems to care. This experience is not an isolated case. On my past few visits to the Kendall Square location, I have personally witnessed at least two other patients visibly upset in the waiting area, also due to Tend's negligence. That says everything about how this place is run. Once this issue is resolved, I will not be returning. Tend is all about polished branding, but behind the scenes is a revolving door of staff, zero accountability, and no real support once they have your money. Dr. Shane deserves to work somewhere that supports both patients and professionals. If you are considering Tend, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. I have to say, I had quite a negative experience at "tend." I tried it out because my family dentist is quite far away and this was much more convenient. I regret it. let me tell you why, first from a very practical perspective: 1. the dental hygienist was quite inexperienced. she was taking x rays and it took many many tries to get them right. I certainly got much more radiation than necessary. she also knocked over the tool cart. she needed reassurance from me (the patient) 2. when the dentist came, she was condescending and used over complicated language, as if she graduated from dental school two months ago and was interested in applying all the big words she had learned. she admonished what she perceived as my insistent questioning of a dental concern. the upselling was also off the charts -- recommending invisalign, for example, which I definitely don't need. She kept saying something about the "lateral force applied to my teeth." she also said that when I come back in six months (see below), they would have to do some fancy camera scan of my teeth, which I'm sure they get a pretty penny for 3. they insist on you coming in every six months. not only did they mention it many times while I was there, the doctor said that she would come out with me to schedule my follow up. when I told the front desk that I didn't want to schedule a follow up there, the receptionist became immediately dismissive and I left. Now those were the practical things. from a purely sentimental perspective, I found the whole thing extremely performative. For example, 1. When you check in, they give you a "tend" branded toothbrush and toothpaste in a "tend" bag. This is clearly a marketing ploy to get the brand "tend" in your home bathroom 2. They then suggest that you may use said toothbrush and toothpaste in the adjacent "brushery". What's the brushery you may ask? It's two sinks in a room to brush your teeth in. 3. The overall aesthetics feel as though you're in some type of casino. Too many lights and colors. And everything feels cheap. It feels like they've tried to spend as little money as possible to appear as hip as possible, while providing the minimal amount of service possible. i Have never been too cynical about the rise in "business-minded" healthcare practices, as bloat does seem to be an issue in healthcare. But my god I have nothing positive to say about tend, and everything in there stank to me of private equity stripping the life out of something. I don't even have anything against private equity, that's just how it felt. If I had one thing to say to tend, it would be: do less. I just want my teeth cleaned. read more

I was apprehensive about going here initially because it's so fancy. I thought maybe the staff would be mean, but I'm so happy to say that wasn't the case at all! Don't get me wrong, the place is very fancy with its modern waiting area and tv screen on the ceiling, but the staff are extremely friendly and kind! Every single person I interacted with was so nonjudgmental and really took the time to talk to me to make sure I understood what was happening, what my treatment plan would look like, and most importantly the cost of everything. Absolute sham of a business. They told me that my cleaning visit was covered by insurance, and my insurance company verified that Tend accepts them. But after my visit, I was sent a bill for $298. My Tend portal says no insurance was applied. I then started reading other patient reviews of Tend, and it seems that they have a predatory practice of failing to file insurance claims before the deadline imposed by the insurance company. Then they are "forced" to make the patient pay out of pocket for the visit. If this charge is not reversed, I will file a complaint with the MA Attorney General's office. I found out about Tend via TikTok and knew i had to look into it. I've been looking for a new dental experience and this seemed up my alley. The lobby greets you with their friendly staff and amazing decor. My hygienist, Erin, met me in the lobby. She made me feel comfortable and walked me through how things were going to go. She was very kind and overall gentle during the cleaning. They use new technology for X-rays and some new equipment that didn't seem so "archaic" that made I hadn't seen before and was pretty neat. I watched some Netflix while I was lying down (with some Ray Ban-esque sunglasses on). I'm so glad I have a dental office that I look forward to visiting because it feels so "trendy" lol. read more

I was then told that nobody had actually checked my insurance, despite having been told by the website that it had been. After waiting for 45 minutes, I was told that they didn't accept it. Honestly, this was a colossal waste of time. As someone who hates the dentist and drags my feet about my annual cleanings, I really really liked the experience at Tend. From making my first appointment, to the process once I was there, everything was easy and seamless. My hygenist, Jennifer, was SO nice, explained everything she was doing and made my cleaning feel quick and (dare I say), enjoyable. The office itself is awesome, it's beautiful and feels like a spa. Watching Netflix above you while getting your teeth cleaned is an amazing touch. I haven't had a professional cleaning in many, many years due to the aggressive nature most dentists offices have. The X-ray tech, hygienist, and dentist were all as friendly as could be. Even in their scolding of my bad habits, it was more encouragement to do better than making me feel bad about myself. My appointment was at 2pm, and I was in the chair at 2pm. My hygenist, Kim, was so kind and gentle with me, and took so much time, even seemed to take pride in explaining my pictures and x-rays to me. Everyone genuinely cared about my well being (or at least were great actors!) Also, having a TV to watch and headphones to drown out the typical dentist office noises was the icing on the cake. I am a college student in Boston. Fortunately, I am still in the 'no cavity' club, but I do need two wisdom teeth removed once I am back home miles from here. However, one of the teeth decided to shift causing me painful fits. I have such a workload these next few weeks to close out the semester and now suddenly this. I did a quick search, found Tend - Kendall. At 8am, I requested an online emergency appt. I was scheduled for 12:50pm same day. Got a text message there's a glitch with my insurance. Called the office. Oops, user entry error. Got that sorted. Tried to arrive 10min early but Boston traffic pushed that a bit. I was given a dental care kit in a nice zipper bag. Nice looking office. The staff was caring about my pain and treated me very well. The amazing doctor took care of me explained my options. The dentist and hygienist were good and the office was nice and clean. The administration is HORRIBLE. They charged my credit card instead of filing my dental insurance. I have spoken to 5 different people trying to get the matter resolved. Every time, they promise to fix it and call me back It has been 2 months since my appointment. It is also IMPOSSIBLE to reach someone at the local clinic. You just get through to the main office. I was planning to come back and get 2 crowns replaced by Dr. Brewer but I can not deal with them. An underwhelming, overpriced administrative nightmare. I'll never go back. I decided to get my teeth whitened before my wedding and booked a Sep 20 appt on Sep 13 with tend because there was no way I was going to get in with my regular dentist on a weeks notice. 1. It was not until 6pm eastern SEPTEMBER 19 (the day before my appt) that I get a call informing me that I needed authorization from my dentist to get this treatment or they'll have to see me as a new patient and do a full cleaning. This is something I DID NOT NEED because I followed the instructions on the website and got my teeth cleaned within the last 6 months (in august). Thankfully my normal dentist is an angel and was able to do this form same day - I didn't even get the form until I spent three tries getting someone on the phone and they emailed it to me when I asked what is the format of this "validation." (Shoutout to Alijah and though for being kind and thoughtful when this company made me extremely grumpy). I had to make time for this in my schedule that had I known further in advance it would not have been so stressful. It's simply unacceptable that they don't notify people of this practice at booking (! Seriously - so many other businesses will only let you book certain types of appointments if you're not a pre existing customer so this is legitimately so easy to avoid) or at maximum the next business day after someone has booked. They also just took the form and no one gave it so much as a glance when I got there- it would have been way too easy to forge. So at best this is just a terrible operating procedure issued by corporate, at worst it's a blatant cash grab. 2. The hygienist performing this service (never saw or spoke to a dentist - when I got my teeth whitened at a dentist a few years back the hygienist performed it but a dentist checked my teeth before and after) was clearly extremely new to performing this service, if not new to tend period. She was noticeably nervous and reassured by another hygienist who apologized that she couldn't stay and offer guidance! But did say to "text her in the app" if she needed anything. The hygienist should never have been asked to perform a service for the first time without supervision or one that she wasn't comfortable with! It took her 10-15 minutes to put in the device that spreads your mouth open and it fell out during the procedure so it had to be put back in and the solution reapplied. 3. The results were exceedingly average for having gone through all of that. My teeth weren't that yellow to begin with so it feels like a terrible waste of money ($495!! Which I guess they didn't take the insurance they took all that time to validate but it would have been nice if someone said this can't be covered under dental insurance) and time. Just go to your regular dentist and don't waste your time with this place. If you love the ease and convenience of one medical tend isn't the place for you. Update: no one has reached out to me so that seems to be for show :) read more

My experience at Tend was great. They are very nice and welcoming. Both the dentist and hygienist were thorough in their examinations/cleaning and explanations of any issues. They were patient and happy to answer any questions. They have the latest technology including a small camera that takes color pictures of your teeth. They offer you a selection of sunglasses to wear while they're cleaning and you get the choice of what to watch on the TV mounted on the ceiling as they're cleaning (I chose the Great British Bakeoff) while wearing noise-canceling headphones (with disposable earpiece covers). Beautiful space with a very caring staff! My hygienist Jen and dentist Dr. Brewer took the time to explain everything in as much detail as I wanted and really put me at ease. Touches like TVs on the ceiling with Netflix (including some soothing nature show options-- I watched Blue Planet) and headphones to distract you and block out the sound of the equipment are super helpful for anyone nervous about going to the dentist, like me. I love that they have their own app were you can easily book appts and see your recommended treatment plan (including a diagram of your mouth labeled with what needs to happen to which tooth), as well as see all your x-rays and tooth photos, and estimates/breakdowns of the cost of your plan -- with your specific insurance coverage included. Excellent communication all-around -- this should be the standard for dental/medical care. I'm a convert, and I would absolutely recommend them to others! read more

Almost every appointment I've made the past year they rescheduled me, sometimes last minute, yet are very adamant in charging for that one time you show up late or miss one of the appointments they rescheduled you for. The billing/administrative experience takes what could have been a great concept to a terrible experience. I was overcharged for my appointment here (which was billed directly to my credit card, which I provided when making the appointment). I have made repeated attempts to get the charge refunded, to no avail. They also do not have a phone number to contact the Kendall Square office directly, which I think is a bad sign -- customer care calls are all sent to people in New York who don't know or care about the issue. Very disappointing -- customer service and responsiveness is always the the sign of the quality of a business, and Tend is a huge fail. read more
