With the Metro Center location, I was pleased by the quality of service and how seamless the whole service was. My appointment was under 1 hour, which is always great for efficiency. Here I am again, writing another review for the Tend Metro Center team because they truly made my day yesterday. Erica, the AGM of this location is truly a gem and was so helpful with getting my account set up with my new insurance and getting everything sorted with my referral reward from my last visit. Based on the reviews below please make sure to call your insurance and ensure your insurance is taken here. You can end up paying for additional services at any dental/doctor office if you don't call and verify. Once I went into the back for my cleaning I met Tracy who was so sweet. We had some great conversation and she made sure I felt comfortable every step of the way during my time there. Tamika did a scan with me and made me smile ear to ear the entire time. And the doctor (forgot her name but she's one of the head dentists there) was very clear and helpful with offering me different services to keep my pearly whites looking their best. I declined for the time being and just moved forward with my 100% covered dental cleaning. You can tell that this team loves their jobs and enjoys working with one another. The dentist and onsite staff were skilled and professional. I really appreciated the modern aesthetic and would recommend this practice except for the billing. This practice is an in-Network Provider for my insurance. The Provider acknowledged that they are in network but refused to honor what insurance stated is my patient responsibility, and a year later sent me a bill trying to collect the amount the insurance said was outside of reasonable and customary. read more

Absolute one of the worst customer service experiences ever. My boyfriend had a horrifying tooth pull. I have never been able to get ahold of anyone at this location, but rather am always routed to the NY HQ and was hung up on multiple times. Had to reschedule multiple times after the HQ scheduled me when the local dentist was not available. No chat function on the website/app, the only option is to call HQ and sit on hold. They ordered the wrong crown and put in the wrong crown. Temporary crown came off after a day. Never going back and strongly recommend against using them. read more

This place is like a car wash. They have "streamlined" the process so much nothing about it personal or careful. They are so pressed to get you in an out on time, they don't really listen to you as a patient. All I wanted was the cleaning that is included with my insurance. All they wanted to do was up sell me. And when that didn't work, they promptly had the front desk receptionist escort me to the front and neither the dentist nor the hygienist ever came back. $225 for them to look in my mouth and give me a sales pitch for services I didn't want. Places like this are exactly why people avoid the dentist. Just expect to pay out of pocket because once you get there, nothing you need is actually in your network. Pew! read more

I've been going to Tend for a few years now. In general, their facility is nice and their staff is friendly. They have several problems though that have become apparent. You never know which dentist you will see. I think I have seen 5 different dentists in ~4 years. They come and go and they all seem very young. So, there is no continuity of care and a feeling they are practicing on you. When I only needed checkups and cleaning this was not apparent or an issue. I did not have lot of problems with my teeth until recently. I needed 4 crowns, or so I was told. How does one know? They were expensive with a lot of out of pocket. After my last crown I started having pain. Turns out I had an infection in that tooth, and they should have done a root canal first. The dentist missed it. So, I had to have a root canal through the new crown. Very expensive since I had run through my annual allotment from Delta Dental. I had split the crowns between two years due to the annual cap trying to not spend thousands and thousands. They did repair the crown for free, without an argument though. I did not make a huge deal of this and paid the bill for the root canal. I would have needed the root canal anyway, although it would have been cheaper and without as much pain had it been done first. Mistakes happen and how does one prove anything? On my next regular checkup and cleaning everything went as usual. I had to remind them about Floride being covered by Delta Dental after they said it was extra. They always say it isn't covered and then I insist they check and they then agree it is covered. The front desk staff changes, like clockwork as well. It isn't a big deal, but they are supposed to tell me what my charges are before the service. Which, at this point they say is $0, as usual. Surprise! Fast forward to an $82 bill showing up for the checkup. I ask them what it is for, and they only repeat, like robots, that Delta Dental did not pay. When I ask what they did not pay for they either claim they have no way of knowing or just don't answer. I know they know exactly what was denied and why. So, I tell them that they must have made a mistake. My policy covers 100% of checkups, x-rays, cleaning and Floride. As it has for years. Nothing new. This has been going on for months now. Once I think it is fixed, I get the bill again. Back to arguing with yet another new drone on the phone. It is only $82, but I'm not paying it because they miscoded something or screwed up what they should have been doing. I'm guessing x-rays were not due to be taken and they blew it. Stay far, far away from this place! The hygienist seemed great, but their bait and switch pricing/price gouging is predatory. I thought the first visit I scheduled was a cleaning, but it was just a consultantion. I was quoted $318 for a 'full treatment plan' with my insurance. On my second visit, I had my first treatment and paid the $318. My third visit/second treatment, I was told I owed another $318. When I said no, I paid already. I was told it was 'their mistake'. My first payment was only for half of my mouth. Confused, I confirmed with the front desk, they were now quoting me double what I was told on my first two visits & their response was 'Yes, but if you want to cancel we won't charge you the $100 fee to late cancel.' So, my only options were to cancel or pay double what I was quoted to complete the unfinished half of the treatment they said 'was so necessary'. AND after all of that, my teeth were never actually cleaned. This place is an absolute scam. Don't waste your time or money here. read more

Great dentist for everyone, but especially those who don't like the dentist! Until today, I hadn't been to the dentist in a little over four years (sort of because of the pandemic but also just general laziness). No one, not even the dentist himself, made me feel judged in any way, the only response was always "Well we're glad you chose us to start back up with and we'll help get you back on track." The staff was not only knowledgeable, but seemed genuinely excited about dentistry. A few other great things: - Easily accessible by metro - The woman at the front desk was cheery, friendly, and helpful - You get to choose a show to watch while they work on your teeth so you can totally tune out if you don't like the sounds of the tools - The whole practice feels very clean and uncluttered Overall a great experience that assured me I chose the right dental practice. Buyer Beware: your cleaning will cost $100! When I made my appointment they said they take my insurance but wanted my credit card "just in case". When I showed up for my appointment I was shocked to learned that my cleaning is not free as usual and that the cost would be so high! But no worries, they have my card on file to charge it. At no point before my appointment was I made aware of the cost nor would it occur to me to call them to ask since my dental cleanings have always been free at every dentist I've been to in the city. Not to mention their website said they take my insurance! It's not accurate to say you take my insurance when what would normally be a free procedure now has a HIGH co-pay. The wording needs to change because it's deceptive. That said its a beautiful office, fancy equipment and talented staff. I'd tell you everyone's name but they don't list their staff on their website. Apparently they have high turn over. read more

WARNING: STAY CLEAR FOR ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT. You will see several negative reviews on here and Google that are very representative of the experience with this office. My own experience has been similar to what others have reported, including: -Only being told about their "Wednesday-only" appointments after they took my money and started my treatment -Day-of cancellations of 4 different appointments so far over the course of the last several months - despite planning around being in DC explicitly for appointments when I usually travel for work - Showing up for an appointment with my orthodontist only to be told someone else was handling my case with no notice--who was not an orthodontist and knew nothing about my case on arrival--only for them to finally admit that my doctor had left the practice suddenly and they hadn't hired a new orthodontist yet - Ending my prescribed treatment with teeth that feel incredibly misaligned still and a bite that is off--unsurprising when I hadn't been able to see an actual orthodontist to monitor for months given their turnover and cancellations - Being told several times that orders for aligners had been submitted when they weren't, causing delays in pick-up (I have currently been wearing the same aligners for well over a month) - Directly being lied to by Tend staff that the delays were "UPS issues." I was explicitly told hours before my appointment that my aligners were "out for delivery" but that they would be too late for my appointment, only to find out via screenshot confirmation that they had only just submitted my order THAT DAY (despite telling me they were submitting two weeks prior) and they were obviously not even made yet, let alone "out for delivery" - Rescheduled travel to make another 8am appointment work--only to get a Sunday night email again telling me that they would not be ready I could go on and on. It is alarming that a medical practice would practice this level of incompetency--and even outright lying to patients. Stay clear. read more

I've been going to the same dentist for 10 years but they've lost a few hygienists and couldn't provide my cleaning for several months so I tried Tend -- that was a mistake. The concept for this place is great - it's a nice setup with pretty quick service by nice people. However they came across as extreme up sellers - kind of like taking your car in for an oil change and being told there are 10 things wrong that you didn't know about. The dentist, who was very nice, spotted several cavities and the need for a crown for $3K and they wanted me to lock in an appointment ASAP. I told them I'd get back to them. I haven't had a cavity in ages and was somewhat skeptical so, I went back to my traditional dentist who informed me that most of those proposed procedures were unnecessary and that they shouldn't cost nearly as much as they proposed. I am sure the dentists at Tend are good but at the end of the day they seem more like a business that gets you in the door with a cleaning and you walk out with your wallet cleaned! On top of that - I was told my cleaning would be covered by my insurance but when I got home there was a $50 charge on my credit card. I wrote to them three times and never heard back. Tend has been the worst dental experience I've ever had in my life, and I am not being hyperbolic, or exaggerating. I decided to get breezy braces (also known as Imbrace). They are lingual braces, which means they are on the backside of the teeth, and therefore seem invisible. I had my initial consult in August of 2022, and was promised that it would take 6 weeks for my braces to arrive. It actually took 4 months. Once I had them installed in January of 2023, I was happy with the results and how my teeth moved. But then, the orthodontist suddenly departed at the location where I had them installed (metro center location in downtown Washington, DC), and I was left without adequate ortho care for several months. I did have a choice of going to a different location, which would've been inconvenient for me due to distance, and decided to wait for a new doctor. When Tend finally hired a new orthodontist, my experience with her was horrible. For my first appointment with her, she kept me waiting for an hour. I couldn't cancel it because it had been several months since I'd seen the orthodontist and I was very much past due (because Tend was missing an orthodontist at that location for so long). That doctor was very unprofessional. She broke one of my wires on purpose without fixing it, and it stuck me in the tongue for months. On another visit, she was very ungentle, and dropped tools on my face and stabbed my lip, to the point that my mouth was tender and inflamed. Also, I was told that the cost of the Breezy braces included all appointments and checkups. However, when I went for an appointment, the front desk person said that I owed around $250. I asked him what the charge was for since I already paid the costs for the braces, and he couldn't tell me. I asked him to send me an itemized invoice and to not charge my card. He agreed, but then when I looked at my credit card statement, the charge was there. I never even received a receipt for the charge. I called headquarters and each time someone promised that someone else would get back to me, but no one ever did. I eventually had to dispute the charge with my credit card company. And then, the second orthodontist left the company and I had to change my location. This orthodontist, Dr. Lee, is great, although the care and treatment plan he recommended for my teeth was very different than what I was told by the previous doctors. That was very worrisome because I'd want consistent care across the board. Additionally, I can never call an office directly. My calls always go through their New York office, which means I always talk to a different person each time I call, experience long wait times, and have challenges getting my issues resolved. And to add the cherry on top, today I have a checkup and somehow my appointment was deleted from the company calendar. I had to wait over 40 minutes to be seen. So, despite this ortho being good, as well as the ortho techs I've worked with being kind, I would never recommend Tend. While I am happy with my results for the most part, I wish I would've gone to another doctor that has his/her own office and isn't part of some kind of concierge service. I would've had consistent care with a doctor that I could build rapport with. There are many other offices that offer the Imbrace technology, and if I could back in time, I'd do more research to find a dental/ortho practice that was a better fit for my needs and personality. read more

Before I had my teeth cleaning and 1 cavity filled in May 2023 at Tend in DC, I checked with the front desk and their website that they accept my aetna dental insurance. Therefore I agreed to get my teeth cleaned and cavity fixed (paid $75 after the insurance for the cavity). November 3rd 2023, Tend sent me an email and said that there is a problem with my federal dental insurance (I have this dental insurance since 1998) and I will be responsible for the bills???!!! Dismal service and quality. My girlfriend had a temporary crown placed last week. Five days later, it popped off. She went back three days ago to have it replaced. The dentist said that they had not prepped the tooth sufficiently. They replaced the crown. Today - Christmas Day - it popped off again. I've been on hold for an hour and a half with the emergency number. No answer. My girlfriend is in a lot of pain, but Tend service is nowhere to be found. A very disappointing experience. After filling out multiple Covid forms and being watched as I washed my hands, the dental assistant (I've never heard of that role before) Greeted me with her mask under her nose. I pointed out the fact that one should wear the mask over the nose AND mouth. She then proceeded to try to intubate my esophagus on multiple occasions with the small x-ray probe. She also took my blood pressure which she noted to be 158/48. She said that they were concerned not only with my dental health but with my overall health. She did not know that that pressure was very abnormal and a sign of septic shock The dentist was outstanding. Truly nice guy. Sorry he's trapped in a really unsustainable model. Two other dental hygienists were in the room but never introduced themselves to me. They basically oriented the new guy and paid very little attention to any patient concerns. If you're looking for Invisalign or braces, I would go elsewhere. They've dramatically overbooked their one orthodontist who is only onsite one day a week, and the standard of care suffers for it - and they don't really seem to care do anything about it. I was supposed to receive additional trays after completing my initial treatment, but received a notice the office needed to cancel and I should call to reschedule. After being on hold three separate times, I finally got through, only to be told the earliest appointment was more than a month away. This means when I am finally able to receive my new trays, I'll have been wearing the same set for THREE MONTHS. It's a total waste of time and money. Further, this is the second time this has happened where I was delayed treatment for 1-2 months, which meant I was wearing the same trays (meant to be worn for two weeks) for that much longer. The first time I had to cancel because life happened, so I let it slide. But now that it's happened again when they were the ones to cancel, it's untenable. And it doesn't stop there! I need to get a couple cavities filled but was told to wait til my Invisalign treatment was done because of the trays, but that has now been pushed back and I've got growing pain and sensitivity I can't do anything about because I've been waiting for some two months now. My customer rep was great and promised management would be in touch, but it's been a week and I haven't heard from anyone. So not only is the standard of care terrible at this location - they don't care at all that it is! read more

I was recommended three crowns and a filling. This came as a complete surprise to me provided I had no complaints or issues. I sought a second opinion and was told only one crown was needed as a replacement (13+ years old). Of the two crowns not recommended by the second dentist, he said it was likely recommended for cosmetic reasons. That's $667 on con-insurance saved for getting a second opinion, not to mention a ton of pain avoided. *Update* today was I called about an outstanding bill for a fluoride treatment I was not asked about, authorized, or treated for. I didn't receive a bill or an EOB for this supposed treatment. I was fluorinated as a kid, plus DC water is 100% fluorinated already making such a treatment unnecessary. This place is a scam. Go to any dentist other than Tend. The business is what's called a "hygiene factory" and, as private equity owned chain, exist to extract money from you rather than provide patient-centered care. Be warned, they will attempt to sell you treatments regardless of need while making the treatment plan confusing. You will likely see a different dentist each visit, almost certainly see a different hygienist. If you have questions, be aware there is no way to actually call the Metro Center office; you will be routed through a call center and likely never get an answer. Going to the dentist can be unpleasant enough, being scammed while there makes it worse. read more

My hygienist was so kind and made me feel at ease (not a fan of dental work!). I got east to understand recommendations from the doctor, and we made a plan to address some surface cavities with better daily hygiene rather than automatically going for fillings. The receptionist Hadley was kind and very clear on what needed to be paid out, made my options for repayment very clear. My one not-glowing comment is that my hygienist was completely booked for 7 weeks, even though I wanted to come back in 4. I was nervous since I had been seeing the same dentist for over 15 years who I trust completely, but made an appointment at Tend because I could get an emergency appointment. (It was 10pm and I got an appointment at 8am the next day.) I was also skeptical because of the mixed reviews I read and the whole boutique dentistry thing seemed gimmicky to me. Happy to report I was completely wrong. Dr. Taha was great - explained the pros and cons of the treatment options to me and thoroughly answered all my questions. In the end, I did not have any treatment there instead they referred me to a specialist and knowing that I was traveling in a couple of days, found me a last-minute appointment with the endodontist as well. I used to like this office (see my past review of 5 stars), but recently, they have cancelled my cavity filling appointment FOUR times. When on the phone with them yesterday, I asked them to please triple check there were no other conflicts that would cause this to be cancelled - they confirmed and then the next day they called me to cancel. I am a teacher and only available after 4. If you don't have office staff past 4, please don't put those times on your website and offer those times to guests over the phone. After years of going to Tend, after today I will not be going back and would not recommend. The staff are incredibly kind (especially my hygienist today and folks at front desk), but there are so many other issues and the lack of transparency will make me seek a different dental office. - the cleaning took only 25 minutes, yet I was there for 1.5 hours as they tried to get me to do Invisalign (something that has not once ever been previously brought up) - they said they'd do a quick scan for the Invisalign consultation. The person doing my scan said it was their first time doing it. After struggling, they went to get help, leaving me with the thing in my mouth. - Without asking or warning, smothered so much Vaseline on my lips and all over my chin. So gross. - the dentist came back and asked how it went and I said it was unpleasant, and she quite literally called the nurse back to reprimand in front of me. Could not be more uncomfortable. - the scan of the before and after of Invisalign looked the same to me, made no sense, really felt like they were just trying to sell me something. - they came to tell me the cost, the first person told me it was half covered by insurance, and after waiting 10 more minutes the second person said none of it was covered. So concerning given the over a thousand dollar difference. - I was desperately trying to leave after 1.5 hours and different people kept coming and telling me to wait just a little bit longer. Avoid at all costs. The people that run this place, in my opinion, are heartless. My wife had to cancel an appointment because she had COVID. She rescheduled while she was sick and half asleep in bed. Then never sent her a confirmation email or text or anything. They claim they did but there's nothing in our inbox or spam filters and they won't send us any confirmation. As a result, after hours and hours on the phone, they are still charging us a $100 cancellation fee. Our family won't be going here again and I urge everyone else to do the same. read more
