I tried out the new location in the City Market and I was not disappointed. I tried the tenderloin sandwich. It wasn't a giant one like you normally see. It was a good size but no leftovers. You can get multiple tenderloins or even burgers so you can make it as big as you'd like. The sandwich itself was good. Crispy but not heavily breaded and greasy. I also got a large fries that two of use shared. Again the portion size was perfect for two but there is a regular size too. The fries were hand cut, salty, and perfectly crisp. The staff was friendly and helpful. They unfortunately did not have their liquor license so no margaritas but that just gives me an excuse to return. read more

This place has been on my list to try for a long time. I found a coupon, so that was a good excuse to grab lunch there. The speed of service was great. I went after the lunch rush so there weren't a ton of people in there, but I got my food so fast. I was in and out of there in under 30 minutes. Visited here on a Saturday for KC Restaurant Week lunch which happened to be my first time getting a chance to try the food here! We always walk through all of the shops here in River Market but had not gotten a chance to try a tenderloin or anything else here. The two younger gentleman working here were super friendly and did a great job for us. The menu seems to be pretty simple but has a few options you don't typically see - a burger and tenderloin put on the same bun; and pig snoot. We settled for the original tenderloin and fries for both of our meals. It was cooked pretty fast and when it arrived in its paper bag, we could not wait to dive in. The fries are seriously some of the best I have ever had. They are such a perfect balance of tender and crispy! The tenderloin was smaller than you would expect but considering the toppings I picked, I though the sandwich was full of flavor. It is not the best tenderloin I've had, nor the biggest, but I would happily get this again given the chance. Yesterday was my first visit to Tenderloin Grill since Minsky's Pizza purchased them last year; and nothing has changed. After all why should it change? With 91 years in business serving the midwest staple of tenderloins and the infamous pig snout sandwich, why rock the boat. TG is an old school diner with bar stools and tables, hand drawn menu boards and the grill and fryer clearly visible to the customers. If you are eating a pig snout then food handling transparency is a must! I ordered the Tenderger - a tenderloin and hamburger mash-up for $9.75 and house fries for $4.00. TG's tenderloin is not KC's best nor biggest, but is solid. The secret recipe hot sauce and dollop of horseradish adds to the allure and the reason that they have been so successful for almost a century. With the added burger patty and normal toppings gives the Tendergur a unique and satisfying sandwich option for the faithful and adventurous. Negatives: House fries - the sliced potatoes are just fat potato chips that just stick together and don't cook evenly. Order the crinkle cut or tots. Pig Snout - it's one thing to see it listed on the menu, but actually seeing it in person or having a family sit at the table next to your while loudly describing it while taking turns taking bites on a dare is very nauseating. You have been warned - enter at your own risk or consider calling ahead and doing carry out if you are the least bit squeamish. read more

We went around 1 on a Monday and there were a few people in line ahead of us, but the rush came immediately after we got there. This was my dads favorite place for a snoot sandwich, so when he passed last week, we had to stop here after the funeral and have one for Pops. We had a tenderloin and cheeseburger sandwich with fries and it was fantastic. Something about burgers coming right off the grill that makes your mouth water. The folks here are hardworking and friendly. We loved going to the shop on the blvd, but now their in the market we're going to go more often. Well, I have so much to say. I have not been back home to KC in about 3 years but when I do come back to visit I always make a point to make the Tenderloin the first stop! The handcut fries were also very good! The menu is small which makes it easier to order. The place is pretty small too. We went on a Saturday night and there were still plenty of seats. We went back to KC for the holidays and my better half's family said I absolutely had to try this place. It's been a sentimental stop for them since the 70s when Richard bought it. I was warned that it isn't a Michelin star experience but I really don't care about all that. I'm not too proud to eat at a diner...in fact, some of my favorite places are dives, holes-in-the-wall, and food trucks. BRING IT ON. The menu is pretty small but really the only reason you come here is to order a tenderloin or a pig snoot (browse the pictures...you'll see). My suggestion is to order it with "everything" and that includes horsey sauce, onions, mustard, and a wicked homemade hot sauce. Yes, i'll be pretty spicy...but it should be. I grew up eating them with ketchup/mustard/onion/mayo but I think I've been converted to this new configuration. Possibly the worst tenderloin I've ever had, and I've had many. They do a batter instead of a breading which isn't an issue for me. The coating and the pork were both chewy. I don't really know how you could manage to make the coating chewy, but it was. The meat was stringy, tough,and chewy. I seen the place on a Travel channel show with Andrew Zimmern, thought I'd check it out.
