Dr. O'brien has stated to her primary care's nurse that "i jumped the gun" & then proceeded to never prescribe her medicine, nor return any phone calls to her primary care, her cardiologist, or me regarding continuation of her care/treatment. we have since went to a different ophthalmologist. i am extremely disappointed in the care my child received as it is completely unacceptable to go ghost on your patients & their needs. i would not recommend this practice to ANYONE, as they clearly do not provide adequate care for their patients.

The 'doctor' is 'about to have a birthday and doesn't give a shit anymore'. The 'doctor'' will hang up on you after saying this and act surprised when you show up wanting an explanation for his ignorant behavior. The 'doctor' is a raging narcissist and refuses to ensure the products he sells you are not faulty. The eyeglass tech or whatever they're called will manhandle your glasses while 'adjusting' making them so warped when you try to take them to another facility to have them adjusted correctly they will refuse to touch them for fear of the structural integrity of the frames after being destroyed. The tech is a liar and they will both blame your teenager for the warped frames even though she's only been able to wear them less than an hour since having them. The 'doctor' will proceed to call the cops on you when you demand to see your child's file to ensure new frames were ordered (tech agrees to order new when we had to take them back in after another place wouldn't touch them). The tech will produce a quickly made invoice to attempt to convince you he actually ordered new frames and they were somehow shipped overnight when the last frames and lenses took almost 10 business days. The office staff is rude and just as incompetent as the person calling themself a doctor. I waited around for the police to arrive but they never showed so left after about 15minutes. I never raised my voice and all could have been handled by replacing the lenses but without even touching the glasses the 'doctor' said they were fine. I'm just expected to accept his insurance fraud and borderline malpractice? Let me learn the lesson for you - Please please please find ANYWHERE else. The mental instability of the entire place should concern anyone.

They are IN NETWORK on my insurance. They charged me $45 that day, and today I received a bill for $150 more to be paid. The total charge for a standard eye exam for contact lenses was $483.00!!!!!! FOUR HUNDRED EIGHTY THREE!!! I have a $10 co-pay on an eye exam. And they have billed me $195. Thank goodness my insurance covered some of the charges. I can't imagine if I didn't have coverage! I must return to pick up my contacts and hopefully the new ones are correct. I can't imagine what I will be charged if I need an adjusted prescription! Once I am all set with contacts I will NEVER use this group again. My husband has also been a patient of this group in the past but will find a new provider for his exam this year. Unless cost is not a concern, I absolutely do NOT recommend this provider

I have been a patient of Dr. Joy Stone at the Fountain City location for several years. She has…read morealways been very professional, takes the time to explain her findings and I've always been very satisfied. At my last appointment, she found a blood clot on my retinal nerve and referred me to Dr. Matthew Cole, Retina Specialist. This is where my experience changed drastically. He is very arrogant, barely explains what is going on and obviously have a VERY BIG EGO. At the 1st appointment, from what little he said, and with my knowledge, I think I have age related macular degeneration. He said I would have to have an injection in my eye, it would not hurt. No time to think about this, it was happening now, plus it's my eyesight, I want to stay on top of this. The 1st injection, no problem. Went back for the 2nd injection, again very little communication from the physician and he seemed to be in a hurry. The 2nd injection was EXTREMELY PAINFUL and I actually screamed, it was painful and unexpected. He said NOTHING and walked out of the room. At the 3rd injection, my daughter told his assistants, who said they would give me extra numbing medication, not to worry, they would take care of it. When he came in, we told him the 2nd injection was painful and my daughter stated that she would not be able to get me to come back if this one was painful. He started talking, well actually he mumbles. that if that's what I wanted to do, fine. And said, it didn't help to give more medication, it would be the same whether they used one numbing drop. The extra drops are not needed. Fortunately, thanks to his assistants, the 3rd injection was not as painful as the 2nd. I am not uneducated, I have been a RN for over 50 years and I have worked for those 50+ years. Including one year in an ophthalmology clinic in a teaching hospital. I've worked with good doctors, bad doctors and indifferent doctors. I knew from the 1st visit there was a lot of room for improvement in his bedside manner. But I also know that often the doctors with a poor bedside manner, may be excellent in their profession. Dr. Cole may be excellent as a retina specialist, but he will not be my retina specialist. I want someone that listens to me, the patient, without getting their "feelings hurt". I want someone that will explain to me what they are doing, why they are doing it and what I can expect. Please don't feel like you need to continue to see a doctor that does not care about you, your issues and works to find a solution. There is more than one retina specialist in Knoxvillle.
