The food at Tequila Escape is pretty good. It's nothing that will blow you away, but there are many solid options on the menu. One thing that drives me nuts is I don't think they have updated the menu on their website literally in years. YEARS. There are items still listed on there that I know they haven't had in ages. In this day and age, I find it unacceptable for any restaurant to neglect the upkeep of their website, but I find it especially unacceptable when it's a restaurant that's trying to be somewhat high end-ish. We have always loved this neighborhood fun spot but goodness! Things have changed. Kudos to them for having fresh and healthy meats and fishes to choose from but if they cannot be delivered properly, it certainly takes away from the dining out experience and makes one regret spending $25-40 per meal before having a drink. We ordered steak nachos, crispy chicken tacos, and steak fajitas- $3 extra for a cup of rice and beans. The nachos and tacos came out together. The nachos were cold with solidified cheese. We sent them back and asked for them to be remade but got burned under the broiler nachos. Also- can they be called nachos with only 6 chips? We sent them back again only to have them reappear with 6 new chips and new melted cheese on top of the original hardened cheese. While we waited for them, the fajitas arrived and so we all ate at different times during our dinner out. We asked for additional chips but never got any. We were charged $6 for the cup of rice and beans, even though the menu clearly stated $3. Overall, this was a very disappointing meal. Too bad. read more

Horrible service!! The worst. We made reservations 3 weeks for a large group. I called the day before to confirm the reservation and they couldn't find it at first then all of a sudden there it was for 7pm. We arrive at 6:45 pm and checked in. The manager at first can't find our reservation and then says oh you're very early. Your reservation is at 7:15. They actually sat us right away. Then after that it was down hill. No one poured waters for us. We had to wait over an hour for our drinks. We ordered chips and guacamole for the table and that came out before the drinks. The drinks finally come out in Dribbles. We order our dinner and everything came out wrong. Most of us ordered Fajitas without onions and all of the orders came with onions. Most of us didn't get the wraps or the rice and beans and we had to keep asking them for them. One person didn't get his dinner until after everyone else almost finished. Then we had to sit there and look at our half eaten dinners because no one came to clean our table. The food was mediocre. Won't ever come back. Also the restrooms were filthy!! Tequila Escape was the first sit-down restaurant I went to after the hardcore quarantine phase of COVID, and it has emerged as one of my favorites in the area. Ridgefield can be an absolute nightmare to drive through, especially on the weekends. One of the selling points of this establishment is that it's right on the periphery of the main downtown area, so (assuming you're coming from the north) you can actually avoid going 5 mph for half a mile and letting every single pedestrian in Fairfield County cross in front of your car. The parking is also great - there's a mini shopping center/strip mall right across the parking lot, so even if the spaces right by the restaurant are occupied, you don't have to go too far to find one. I don't have much of an eye for interior decorating (I usually just go to an estate sale and hope for the best), but this place has a very unique, DIY scheme that still looks really professional and changes regularly depending on the season. My mom and I came here for lunch this past Sunday, and they had a wintry theme going on - a roaring gas fireplace and a lot of white decor (right next to our table was this little display of white-washed branches that kind of looked like a classy arts and crafts project, if that makes sense). You can tell a lot of careful thought went into the decorations, and it's a nice, unique touch. I'm not a huge Mexican cuisine fan as a general rule, but the menu veers closer to mainstream/Latin fusion so it's pretty easy to find something to eat; for every quesadilla or empanada, you'll find an edgy mac and cheese or a burger of some kind. For this particular adventure, I wasn't too hungry so I opted for the ahi tuna tacos app - I've had it before and it's not particularly filling, but it is tasty. In my opinion it's a bit pricey for the amount of food; you're getting two smallish tacos for $17, so I think $13 or $14 is more in line with the portion. My mom ordered the grass-fed burger and was pretty pleased with it but remarked that it was overcooked. She ordered it medium rare and it was clearly closer to medium well - not a pinkish tint to be seen. The real selling point for me menu-wise here are the cocktails. If you have a literal spirit in the name of your restaurant, you'd better be boning up on your mixology skills and they certainly have. I had the Strawberry Pico Sour. I'm a huge egg white cocktail fan, and this is a decent one for sure. This time around I thought they went a little heavy on the sour, but given that it's in the name of the cocktail I don't think I have too much right to complain about that. One of the great subtle touches of this beverage is the dusting of cinnamon they put on the top of the drink - great sensory experience and helps negate some of the tart qualities of the beverage. If your bartender understands that the nose is just as important as the tongue, you're likely in good hands. Constructive feedback-wise, the service is average. The waitstaff is super friendly and accommodating (we always seem to get the same perky, tallish lad, who is a delight), but it usually takes about 10 minutes more than it should to receive the drinks and food. It was a little busy when we were there, but it seems to be pretty sluggish regardless of when we're there so I'd be reluctant to come by if I were on a tight schedule. I've been wanting to check this place out for a while and I have to say, it was super different than I had expected inside. I didn't think there would be so many cute photo ops and neon signs inside. Pro tip- deff head to the restrooms because there is a very cute neon sign with angel wings photo op! I wouldn't have known it was there if I didn't go! A major plus is that there is a parking lot so parking was a breeze. The staff were super friendly and attentive. The menu is also pretty large. There is a lot to choose from. The food was really good too. I got the huevos rancheros with flank steak & I enjoyed the steak a lot! The salsa on the eggs was also very delicious. The only thing I didn't really care for was the guac. It was $15 dollars for a super small portion. There were 5 of us and we only got one small basket of chips. Terrible Experience - Do Not Waste Your Time or Money! We had a reservation but still ended up waiting 40 minutes for our table. When we were finally seated, it was at two separate tables. I asked the "host" (who is also the owner, Steve [Stelios] Kakavelis) to move the tables together, and he rudely told me I could do it myself. Once we were seated, the waitress didn't inform us that the kitchen was closing. She brought our appetizers, then suddenly told us the kitchen was closed and we couldn't order anything else. When I asked to speak with the manager, I was told he was "too busy" to come over. The entire staff was rude and unprofessional, making the whole experience incredibly frustrating. The food we did receive was disappointing - tiny portions that were way overpriced. We ordered nachos, and they came on a side plate, not even a proper dinner plate. The portion was ridiculously small, and it didn't even resemble real nachos. Do yourself a favor and skip this place. Ridgefield has so many other excellent restaurants that actually care about their customers. read more

What Happened to This Place? Sad to say this place has gone completely downhill. The portion sizes are way smaller now, the staff is rude, the floors are dirty and sticky, and they're letting underage drinkers without ID in like it's no big deal. The women's bathroom was a total mess! Clogged and overflowing and there's only one, so that was a nightmare. When we told the staff, they couldn't have cared less. A mixed bag. Decent ambiance? Yes. Friendly, courteous service? Yes. But: the noise level is NOT conducive to having any meaningful conversation whatsoever--music a bit too loud on top of poor acoustics simply make for a VERY loud, bar like atmosphere. Food was OK during this visit with six people. Ceviche was a bit too soupy, with arguably too many hard corn kernels, but flavorful. The salmon entree was overcooked (all three servings), in spite of having asked for it medium rare. Sweet balsamic was used throughout various dishes where more savory flavors would have been appropriate. As for pricing, the price/value relationship is a bit off...tab was essentially "Fairfield County fine dining" for somewhat elevated "bar food." I really want to say 3.5 stars. The food is delicious, they're very accommodating, but the service is just severely lacking, and it's a bit overpriced. We went to Tequila Escape on a Saturday night. There were six of us. They said they'd make us a table outside, great. We sat down and waited for our table. In this process, we watched two tables get made outside, and two large parties that came in after us get seated (granted, they may have had a reservation, but they said they'd seat us immediately).We finally got a table made-- all the way down at the barber shop. It was approximately 20 feet or so from the last table on the patio. Okay, we decided to make the best of it. Because we were so far away, we didn't get the most attentive service. The water pitcher was never full to refill waters- two people got water and then the person would disappear. The food was really delicious. They accommodated easily for allergies. I loved the tuna tacos, although if you're not a light eater, you might need something extra. Tithe nachos were a little weird- bean puree with a slight amount of chips sticking out, but nonetheless, really delicious. Other items ordered included thee guacamole, shrimp tacos, quesadillas. Everyone really enjoyed their food. The margaritas are also great! Tequila Escape is a great place if you aren't in a hurry, like good food and drinks, and don't mind paying a bit extra for it! read more

Our waitress was attentive and professional.. it was a little hard to hear in the tent with people talking and the music. We started with the Buffalo chicken taquitos and calamari. Both delicious. Wish there was more. My sons each had chicken quesadillas, my husband had the steak fajitas and I had the steak frites. Everything was delicious. SO SO SO good! Yes - parking can definitely be a challenge. Finding space inside at the bar or in the front of house to wait for your table on a busy night can be an even bigger challenge. But honestly - the food and drinks make it 100% worth it, along with the outstanding staff. 4 of us went for dinner on a Friday night so granted, it was more crowded than usual. I've seen a few people complain about the lighting in the restaurant but I love it - personal preference, I guess! I think it gives a great, intimate vibe. I can't say enough about the cocktails. If you're adventurous when it comes to cocktails and/or you've had a particularly bad day that you need to forget, you need La Ultima Palabra. Mezcal is something I haven't really been much into in the past but this cocktail might have changed my mind. I also had a few of the jalapeno cucumber margaritas & they were crisp and refreshing! We just went appetizer nuts here, which is what I 1000% recommend. Brussel sprouts, empanadas, octopus, calamari, and ceviche. I mean we just went wild and it was aaaaaall amazing. As soon as we were seated; 3 kids and four adults they came to fill the glasses with water and offer us drinks, kids loved the Shirley Temple!!! A delicious guacamole with chip was brought to the table. Our waitress was super attentive and professional. Shishito peppers , a copious amount, nicely seared, salty , kind of spicy and delicious. The seafood Ceviche, served with nachos, a bit disappointing, kind of small for the price $19.00 and to my taste not cold enough, nor very tasty. On the other hand my steak quesadillas were quite tasty as was the shrimp one, with Monterrey Jack cheese, cherry peppers, onions with a side of guacamole, sour cream and a tiny amount of Pico de Gallo, we both liked our choice. Scallops and shrimp Enchiladas ( two) with bell peppers, onions, Jack cheese in a chipotle sauce , very tasty but pricey at $35.00. Quinoa salad was copious and delicious priced at $15.00. Came here for lunch on a Saturday while in the area. The restaurant is well decorated and wasn't too crowded. Loved the extensive margarita choices, as well as various other cocktails. The passion fruit margarita was delicious and came out super quick! I had the nachos as an appetizer. They seemed to be heavier on toppings than chips but they did give us a side of chips. We got a bunch of takeout from here! We tried: The Classic guacamole (good/average) Steak empanadas - came with 3, and they were pretty good. The sauce was rich, but not spicy, and very good. I was glad it wasn't ground beef Blistered Shishito Peppers - very good! They were cooked correctly and were a very nice appetizer portion for sharing. Brussels Sprouts - Bacon was not involved as mentioned (or at least we didn't taste it....but bacon is hard to miss!) But, no matter, because they were stellar! Perfectly crispy and I really enjoyed the balsamic. California Nachos with Chicken - I was told these were excellent. Crispy Chicken Tacos - I was told these were good, but the chicken was a little dry Chicken Quesadilla - I did truly enjoy this! It came with just enough guacamole & pico for the whole meal (plus sour cream). Overall it was good, but just a little pricey, which other reviewers have said, too, but it was very good. We were given an 8 PM reservation at 7 PM which was fortunate. Given a choice of high-top or low-top table and we were provided with menus. The menu is extensive and there is an equally impressive drink menu on the back. Prices are about what you'd expect for Harbor Point. Our waiter Julian took our drink order and drinks came within minutes. We ordered chips and salsa while we made our entree decisions, a veggie fajita and a seafood paella. We had a second drink. The entrees did not disappoint. The fajita was enough to stuff all four hand tortillas and my paella could have easily have been shared by two people. The only snafu came at dessert when we were told they'd sold out of flan. We ordered crème brûlée to share but both the c.b. and flan ended up on the check. Julian quickly removed the flan and we enjoyed c.b. with cappuccino. They didn't have Raw Brown sugar packs so Julian brought some from the kitchen. The place was full but the service didn't suffer during our meal. It's a BIG, loud room and they have music blasting during dinner which may turn off older patrons. Keep the music low during dinner so we can talk please. I'm told there will be a DJ after dinner in the future. The patio is large and I believe the Happy Hour crowd will congregate there most afternoons. Plenty of free parking onsite and they have take-out. I didn't notice any TVs so I can't say if you'll be able to watch sports there...? We're happy to see the long-vacant BBQ spot now occupied with a great place to go for Happy Hour and dinner. My 22 year old daughter and her friend had reservations for New Year's Eve at 11:45 pm. They were told that the kitchen would be open to 2 AM and they were having a live DJ. Her reservation was made a day in advance and confirmed at 8:01 pm on 12/30/2022. When they arrived at the restaurant and checked in for the reservation 15 minutes early, the hostess told them the table is being set up. About 15 minutes later (the time for the reservation), my daughter and her friend were told there is only standing room. They could not hear inside of the restaurant so they went outside to figure out what they wanted to do. As soon as they stepped outside the manager was closing the doors behind them. The manager told them "we have too many people" and their reservations was not honored. When I called Tequila Escape on the phone, I was hung up on numerous times and were put on hold and then hung up on. We were directly hung up on with no explanation so our daughter and her friend's New Year's Eve was waiting for a table that was reserved for and a door in their face. Ok, so I get it might be a good bar to hang out with friends and have a cocktail but the food and service are just bad. We had Eggs Benedict and French toast today at our brunch... one order the eggs were like hard boiled eggs and the other under cooked... not good. As for the French Toast was burnt and did not come with syrup. Also, there were 2 strawberries cut in 1/2 that looked ready for the garbage. If I was a server there I would not bring that out but it's not their fault that everything was bad. Look the people were nice but food went into the bar category. Maybe apps and a tequila???
