After seeing The Odyssey at the Esquire IMAX, we walked over to Tequila Museo Mayahuel for dinner. It was the perfect way to end our evening! The restaurant had great energy and a fun, buzzy atmosphere. The crowd was a lively mix of people from the Capitol, couples enjoying date night and moviegoers grabbing dinner before or after a show. We ordered the carnitas and carne asada. Both plates were generous and full of flavor. The carnitas were tender and practically fell apart with a fork, and the carne asada was cooked perfectly. We went in a Saturday around 2pm, the restaurant was not busy at all and we were seated promptly. The food at Tequila Museo Mayahual was good, and we enjoyed the flavors and overall atmosphere. Unfortunately, the service was lacking during our visit. One of our meals was forgotten and we had to flag down the server to let him know. Our server also wasn't around very often, so it was difficult to get refills or ask for anything we needed. When we requested a specific number of to-go boxes, we weren't given enough and had to get up and ask for additional boxes ourselves. Overall, the food was enjoyable, but I took away 1 star for the lack of service. The service could definitely use some improvement, especially since it wasn't busy when we went. It was a bit quiet for a Thursday night, but much of K Street is these days. The service was great. The waiters were polite and attentive. The food was good! I love the variety they have on their menu. A lot of Mexican dishes that celebrate different regional Mexican cuisines. I had the Cochinita pibil. It was very flavorful and tender. My husband had the three enchiladas with different sauces and those were great as well. The sauces were very interesting! I wish there had been a bit more ambiance. This was our first time coming here and we were craving Mexican food. We had the margaritas and the vegan juice. Our starters: Sikil Pak (so good and creamy! The blue corn chip was awesome) and the bocaditos (perfect bite size samplers). I got the enjococada michocoana and husband got the shrimp tacos. So Dine Downtown week is upon us and I found myself wanting to try out a few restaurants,so after taking a look at the many fine options available this year,I decided my 1st stop this week would be Tequila Museo Mayahuel on K street across from the IMAX movie theatre. I jumped on the OpenTable app and found a very nice reservation available for Saturday night at 7pm-could not have been easier to get a table.Parking in that part of town is always kinda tricky but as sometimes happens,I was running a bit late so I just parked at the parking garage located in the Esquire building a short block away-not sure if there was a better spot to park but for me the ease made it an easy choice. Once we arrived there right at 7p-there was a slight 5 minute wait due to how busy there were on this Saturday night but the hostesses could not have been more cordial-so it was no problem waiting. Once we sat down we had the prix fixe menu-Course 1-Sopa De Elote-Course 2 Chicken Tinga Tostadita-Course 3-Bacon wrapped Ribeye with Mashed potatoes and oven cooked potatoes and asparagus-Course 4-Tres Leches cake for $45. Only thing we added were a couple of very tasty drinks-my Oaxacan Old Fashioned($14.00)-which was very mezcal and tequila forward tasting and we got a drink called Passifora($12.00),which also featured blanco tequila and mezcal with passion fruit.Both drinks were out of this world but the Passifora was the much better drink and I would for sure get that again.Chips and Salsa($3.75)were also ordered,salsa was very good and chips were great-lightly salted. Overall we really enjoyed the fixed menu-found it was a really great value-The elote soup was perfectly textured and flavored-the chicken Tinga tostada was a perfect little bite-the ribeye was very flavorful and the the tres leaches was for sure not dry-which is the problem with many tres leches cakes. I would for sure say the best thing that happened with the Dine Downtown fixed menu is it gave me a nice sampling of what this restaurants chefs were capable of and definitely made me want to come back to try a few items on the menu in the future-which is a great thing to feel as your walking out of any restaurant. So if you find yourself on the fence trying to figure out a spot for a nice upscale Mexican dining experience downtown-don't hesitate to choose Tequila Museo Mayahuel-you won't regret it. With so many options for Mexican food in the area, from really cheap to more upscale, there's a lot of competition for those wanting Mexican food. Hard to describe, but the food was lacking something. If it were a path, it would reach just short of hitting the final target. There was something that fell just short. Review is for RESTAURANT WEEK experience. Sub-par for multiple reasons. (1) There was a pre-set regular and vegan menu. I appreciated that they were mindful of dietary restrictions. However, I'm vegetarian and wasn't allowed to pick items from both menus. Why does this matter if they're the same price point? I picked the vegan option and date had the regular menu. (2) Ambiance is nice, tastefully decorated and clean. The chairs look very worn down, beat up, and probably just part of the esthetic. Sit long enough and I promise you'll feel the cushion springs on your bottom. (3) First dish - Soups - Both had great flavor but came out lukewarm. I had the carrot and my date had the elote (corn) which was very tasty. (4) Second dish - Appetizer - Regular menu had a comically small tostada the size of a half dollar coin. Vegan menu had two sizable potato tacos stuffed with plain mashed potatoes, doused in a fire hot sauce and topped with lettuce and tomatoes. Both tasted okay. (5) Third - Main dish - bacon wrapped ribeye for him. He asked for medium rare and it came out a chewy, medium well (no pink at all). I got pozole which was okay. The server nicely packed me the vegan spaghetti (other option) to go to try at home. (6) Final dish - Dessert - They ran out the tres leches dessert from the regular menu. It's Wednesday evening and you're sold out? Given that there are only 4 items on the menu for restaurant week, should this not have been disclosed to us at the very beginning?? They subbed it with a mango cake which had cream that tastes like artificial fruit. The cake part tasted like a pre-packaged Twinkie. My vegan cake was dense and also tasted pre-packaged. This is one of the few times neither one of us got through the dessert, which is usually our favorite part of a meal. (7) Service was okay, a bit slow at getting us the check but pleasant overall. It was $45/person, and with one drink/tax/tip we were at about $130. We were better off ordering one item we actually thought we'd like off the regular menu, it might've been more cost and quality effective. This experience was a let down, which we were truly sad about given the otherwise higher rating that this restaurant has. We thought that they would have Restaurant week streamlined with a sampler of their best dishes. Unfortunately that was not the case. :( read more

The four of us walked over for lunch after a movie on a Sunday. It was busy but we were seated right away. The receptionist was friendly, as was our waitress. We received our 4 drinks very quickly and our meals in just a few minutes. The food was delicious. My wife and I ordered the enchiladas with Mole sauce. I went to Mayahuel for lunch with colleagues, and we started with the chips, salsa, and guacamole. It was addicting, just as any good trio should be. Fresh, flavorful, and definitely the highlight of the meal. For my entrée, I ordered the Arrachera Mexicana con Enchilada. The rice and beans were average, and the enchilada itself was okay. The chicken enchilada was on the dry side, though the generous amount of sauce helped. The flank steak was cooked well, but it felt like it was missing an extra element. Lucked out and a parking spot was available right in front. This made a huge difference because we had reservations for Mother's Day and the closest lots were full. When I made the reservation I asked if they would be serving their regular brunch menu and I was told yes. They were using their regular menu, not brunch. That was a disappointment. However, just about everything on the menu sounded great! We ordered drinks, I got a strawberry mocktail so yummy! We ordered the pumpkin seed dip which was good. it needed salt or the chips needed salt. I got the Pistachio Mole and my Mom got the Camarones Moctezuma which had big generous shrimp. The entrees were really great! The server was meh. She did her job but didn't seem too excited to be there. The decor was nice. It was really loud with conversations and blenders. Came here with my best friend after a very long day and much needed comfort food. When we arrived, we were immediately asked by the host if we had a reservation and when we said no, we were told there were no tables.. then she said she would go check and we were able to get right in. We totally forgot with everything we have going on that day that it was dine downtown. The menu looked good, but I was already set on getting pozole so we didn't order off the dine downtown menu. Plus, we've also been here plenty of times and love it already. We were really bummed to find out that you get charged for chips and salsa and they don't come out automatically without asking and it also the charge is dependent on how many people are in your party. Also, when the chips came out, there was only one salsa, which hasn't usually been the case. We're not sure if this was just some modifications because of dine downtown happening, but it was a bummer. We ordered the taquitos for an appetizer and those were OK..nothing special. I ordered the pozole verde with chicken, which is my favorite! And my best friend ordered the Carnitas plate. My posole was really good. It came with the side of the status and all the toppings. However, the Carnitas lacked flavor and were a bit dry. Neither of us would probably order that again. We also ordered a couple of blended mockaritas, one strawberry and one mango and both were tasty, but the strawberry would definitely needed another blend as there were a big chunks of ice. Restaurant is still too noisy for us. HAVE AGAIN: Mole Poblano con Pollo is still very good, but needed to be a bit spicier (however, it was perfect for my dining partner). Margarita lime custard was good but no longer outstanding. NOT HAVE AGAIN: The Carnitas de Atacheo was without flavor - way too plain. Came here for the second time today. We came last year and the mole was super authentic. We returned today and asked our survey for his recommendations. The good was phenomenal and his recommendation did not disappoint. Cochinita was suuuuper flavorful!! And arrachera Mexicana was fire! I absolutely appreciated his opinion on what we order. Mole Poblano con Pollo! Peeps this place has world class mole and 5 star service! Salsa and chips are a must here and the drinks are strong. Eduardo from Jalisco was my waiter and he was both personable and super attentive! He also quickly put my little guys order in after we sat down so his food came out early. Parents you know this move and it's appreciated...Eduardo is a homie and offered some of the best service I've had in a very long time. I came here with a friend for lunch and we had a really nice experience overall. It was a relaxed midday stop, and the place had a comfortable, welcoming vibe. We decided to split the guacamole to start, and it was a great choice; fresh, well-seasoned, and served with plenty of chips to share. For our main dishes, my friend ordered the adobo tacos while I went with the adobo plate. Both dishes were flavorful and satisfying. The adobo meat was incredibly tender and clearly well-marinated, and the rice on the plate stood out with its rich flavor rather than being an afterthought. Everything tasted freshly made and thoughtfully prepared. Visited La Cosecha by Mayahuel the night before after my friend recommended it and loved the food. He mentioned the chef had another restaurant that was a little more upscale inside and next to the Sheraton hotel behind the Capital building. I had to do a little research and discovered it was Tequila Museo Mayahuel. Parking was not easy, I had to circle the blocks 3 times until someone left from the metered parking spot. There is a garage next to the restaurant but it was full by the time I arrived at 6:53 p.m. Arrived and I was sat down quickly. I waited for my server for a bit and finally one said they would be right with me. I had my drink and entree picked out so it worked out fine. Jorge was my server and he was really cool and had cool glasses. I asked if he could please put my alcoholic drink on a separate check and he happily obliged. I had the Passiflora drink which was my favorite drink ever. It's hard to find a good passion fruit drink and this one tasted fresh. For the entree I had Tacos Poblanos de Arrachera which came with the most delicious beans as a side and 3 steak tacos with a guajillo sauce. The steak was chunky and full of flavor and cooked with no pink, but it was still very tender and juicy. These were hearty chunks of steak so 3 tacos was more than enough for one person. For dessert I had the Margarita Lime Custard which tasted exactly how I wanted it to. If you love key lime pie, this is for you. I'm pretty sure I've seen someone make this on TikTok and it's like the Carlota de Limon dessert, but I've never had the time to make it and it's for sale here. The location is great. It's in the heart of downtown near the IMAX theater and not too far from the capitol and cathedral. There is mainly street parking nearby but there are two large parking structures within walking distance. The service was great. Our server came by multiple times to ensure our meal was up to our satisfaction. We came in a larger party and they were still able to get our food out quickly, I'd say in around 15 minutes. They have an expansive liquor list, especially tequilas (as given by its name). The food was delicious. I was a big fan of the guacamole and chips. In particular, the tacos were good. More similar to "white people" tacos but still had a bit of an authentic street taco taste. The prices were a bit pricey. I'd say to expect to walk out of here for around $45 for a meal for two making this a ($$$) for me, Bottom line/TLDR: solid Mexican food. read more

I have been here a few times and love it! First, the decor is beautiful. Second, their food is full of flavor and delicious.
