This has been my go-to Mexican restaurant for several years, and I've always ordered the Chili Colorado with rice and beans. Unfortunately, this visit was really disappointing. The dish came with a whole side of pico mixed in with the meat. I've never had to ask for pico to be left off before, and it completely changed the flavor of the dish. I don't eat pico, so I basically was left with a corner of rice and beans. On top of that, it seems like the prices have gone up while the portions have gotten noticeably smaller. read more

Great place for a date night or for the whole family. Their food and drinks are the best in town and their service is fast and friendly. Still one of our favorite restaurants downtown. Now with an added bonus: they're directly across the street from Woof Gang, a top-notch dog grooming boutique. pretty busy for a weekday lunch! we were able to get seating outside. service and food came out fast. table and chairs were a bit messy with some food on them. the horchata was average and a bit watery. i appreciated that they have a vegetarian rice option, and all beans are vegetarian--went with the non-veg rice that uses chicken broth. massive quantities of sour cream and guac. the beans and rice were good. my only complaint is that they put pico inside of my quesadilla, not on top like i expected! would come back if im really craving mexican food and will note to tell them that i want my pico on the side. :) read more

It was a busy Sunday but excellent service. My group of 3 and I were seated right away and it is such a cool place. We had the passion fruit watermelon margarita pitcher which had a good amount of tequila with freshly squeezed watermelon which was sooo refreshing! Tres Hermanas has been a long-time favorite for us. It's one of those neighborhood restaurants that feels established and comfortable the minute you walk in. The interior is colorful and lively with bright walls, artwork, Día de los Muertos accents, hanging lanterns, and a bar that feels like the center of the action. It has personality and history, not a polished chain feel. We've had many dishes here over the years, and the mole entrées have always stood out. They do rich, layered sauces really well. On this visit we kept it simple with tacos, guacamole, chips, and salsa. The guacamole was fresh and well balanced, and the salsa had just the right amount of kick. I ordered the soup and salad combo. The chicken and rice soup was savory and comforting. It's not fancy, just well made. Their house dressing, a creamy cilantro dressing, is still one of my favorites and honestly one of the reasons I'll order the salad every time. Service was helpful, friendly, and prompt. Everything came out in a reasonable amount of time, and the staff checked in without hovering. I don't think I've ever had a bad meal here. It's consistent, welcoming, and reliable. Ordered a steak taco salad (wife approved of the cilantro salad dressing), the meatball soup (saving for tomorrow) and a combo chicken enchilada and taco plate which came with celery, potatoes, onion - mixed in with the chicken. The chicken was nicely chunked and well seasoned, all of the ingredients were fresh and in perfect portion to each other. Tightly wrapped it maintained structural integrity to the last bite which was essential in a moving vehicle. Love this place! Every time I come here I'm always satisfied with the food. The food is piping hot, super tasty and very filling. The service is lovely; they were very attentive with the water refills. The ambiance is so pleasant, whether you're sitting outside or inside in the well air-conditioned dining room. The price for food is not bad given the current state of the economy and cost of groceries. The taco salad with asada is 5 stars. Nice crispy shell filled with tender, juicy asada. Of the many times I've been there. This is probably the only time I could say that I didn't have a great experience. At first started when they sat us down on a broken table that felt like we were on a roller coaster ride. We immediately asked to be moved and received pushback from that and we're looking at the server like why are you pushing back on this broken table for he finally agreed to move us one table over and apologize and saying that that table needs to be fixed. That wasn't the only issue with the server his professionalism was lacking. I felt like I was talking to somebody on the streets and not somebody who worked at a restaurant. No professionalism whatsoever. Every time the server walked away from the table, he kept pulling his pants out like bro buy a belt that fits you. When we got the food, the Carnitas was dried. Wow. This place took me back home - to Philly. It's unassuming from the outside, but as soon as I walked in to the bar area I was taken back to the grittiness of Philly. This place is grimy in a good way - like a south Philly Mexican joint. No frills. The spicy margarita - hands down the best I've ever had. It had a strong kick both on the spice level and the tequila flavor. Chicken quesadilla and steak fajita - pretty standard. Solid. Chips and salsa - best salsa I've had. Not sure what it is but for the last couple years it seems like every time we go they seat us all the way in the back by the bathrooms by default. To the point that I now request outdoor seating to keep it simple. I've been sat in every section in the past so not sure what gives. Food is not the same as it used to be either. I miss the way they made rice before which had more of a chicken broth flavor and the salsa which had lots of roasted peppers. Just the way items are made is different and not for the better. The lightly batter exterior contains yummy strawberry ice cream with strawberry topper and just the right amount of whip cream. Surprisingly I have never been to this Sacramento classic until now! My friend chose it for dinner so I was excited to check it out finally. We arrived at 6:00 on a Tuesday and we were seated within a few minutes! So nice to see a fully packed restaurant on a weekday. I would have loved to sit out on the front patio but they only had a few tables and none were available. The menu has a pretty good variety without being too overwhelming. I decided on a chimichanga with shredded chicken. I think food came out in about 10-15 minutes! It was so delicious, especially the side of refried beans which were cooked nicely and not too oily. My meal still tasted delicious when I had the other half for leftovers. Love that they have complimentary chips and salsa! And of course had to get horchata to wash it all down. Service was nothing spectacular and we had to flag someone down to finally get the check but again it did seem like a busy night. We arrived early at 11:00 as on weekend lunch is packed with people. I had the albondigas soup and it was as great as ever with a small salad. The avocado dressing is wonderful. We got an order of bean dip to share and Corina ordered the chiles relleno plate. She loved it! We both had ice cold Medelos. Our food was perfect as was the service and they both always have been. 8/1/25 I know I'm behind on this but here it is , Review Time Since in town for a convention and friends visiting from indonesia that wanted good Mexican food we needed a good spot to eat out and yelp didn't disappoint on this gem. Cool little spot in midtown sac. It was a Friday night and we had a party of 8. We were greeted immediately and was told about a 45min wait, we were willing to wait. So we went to the bar and got some drinks to start. Jared the Bartender was awesome and really took care of us. We were able to find a few seats in the bar area and a couple of us stood no biggie. Vibe was great and place was definitely popping for a Friday night . Soon enough we were seated outside which was really nice and it was nice out . Shane was our server for the evening and he was great. Really took care of us. We ordered some chips and fresh guacamole to start was delish. As seen in pic pretty good size menu. For dinner me and wifey split The Al Pastor plate (see pic) Corn tortillas. We both enjoyed very much. Very good flavor and tender . According to everyone else they all really enjoyed their food. Tres Hermanas is consistently one of the better spots in town. Customer service is quick and friendly, they always provide an estimated wait time and menus if there is a wait. The food comes out fast and in large portions. The rice is fluffy, the beans are fluffy, and the entrees are well portioned. My favorite dishes are the tamales de puerco plate or their ceviche salad. I dislike their outdoor seating however, because it can be crowded and hot. read more
