Loved this spot for Mexican food in Arden! Ambiance was wonderful inside and our service was quick. Prices were great as it was happy hour and portions were large. We started off with free chips, bean dip, and salsa (which is just not the norm anymore!). I ordered flautas, which were absolutely delicious. Loved the potato filling inside and the sauce it came with. My partner ordered fish tacos which he enjoyed as well. We'll definitely be back!
I was actually planning to bring my family to Zócalo for a special dinner because it's one of the nicer and more well-known restaurants in Sacramento. The location itself is beautiful, upscale, and honestly looked like the perfect place for a graduation dinner. But before making the reservation, I noticed the giant "Conditional Pass" sign posted on the door. Of course I stopped to read it. The listed issues included: * improper employee handwashing * improper food holding temperatures And honestly... that completely changed my mind. I understand restaurants can have off days and inspections happen all the time, but seeing those specific violations at a place considered "higher end" immediately made me uncomfortable about spending that kind of money there, especially when I was planning to bring my kids. The restaurant itself LOOKS gorgeous. I even took photos because the atmosphere and exterior are beautiful. But personally, cleanliness and food safety matter more to me than aesthetics, and seeing those violations posted publicly made me decide to hold off on making reservations until those issues are fully corrected. I genuinely hope they fix everything because Sacramento deserves nice restaurants that are both beautiful and safe to eat at. Update June 1st ! - new inspection ! Passed
Love this spot! Zócalo is for both the casual and the classy. Ingredients feel well-sourced and fresh, and love the variety of flavor profiles they have on the menu. The fish tacos and salmon bowl are go-to's for me! Will definitely return & definitely recommend!
I like to describe Zocalo as "upscale" Mexican food. Some of the most consistent things about Zocalo are their atmosphere and their top-notch margaritas. Seriously some of my favorite margaritas I've ever had. I love how they incorporate seasonal flavors in them as well. I've been to this Zocalo location many times over the years and have had mixed experiences with their service. Usually they're pretty attentive and on-top of things. Post-Covid in the QR menu only era we had some really bad service that left a bad taste in our mouth and kept us away for a while. We've since been back, and it's been much better. Glad that they're back to offering paper menus as well. My favorites here are the enchiladas and the fish tacos. They're always great! I love their chips, salsa, and bean dip as well. They are on the higher end of the price spectrum for Mexican food, partly why I describe them as "upscale." The food and drink quality seem to be pretty consistently good between locations as well. Overall, this a solid Sacramento go-to restaurant.
Had lunch to celebrate our friends birthday. When the hostess was taking us to our table. I asked her if they did anything for Birthdays and she said oh of course. She neglected to mention that they charge for a birthday dessert. When we got our bill, there was a charge for $10 for the birthday dessert. I think that they should let you know that there's a fee before bringing it out. Our food was good and service was great. He sat outside on the patio. The restaurant is beautiful.
We made reservations months in advance for 14 people for a graduation celebration dinner. When we arrived the table was ready and we were seated right away. The hostess staff was very nice and our waiter was always present when needed. The food was amazing and the drinks were top notch. I love the decor and lighting. This was our first time at this location and we will be back. We are from Southern California but our daughter, after graduation, decided to stay in Sacramento and frequents this location at least twice a month.
Out of all the Zócalo locations in Sacramento area this one is easily my favorite. The decor, the energy, the layout, the architecture, every detail is just beautifully done. I've been here several times, and every visit is consistently a great experience. On our most recent visit with my family, we had Katie as our server, and she was amazing! So warm, attentive, and genuinely made us feel taken care of. It was one of my colleague's first time there, and she really made it a memorable experience for them. The food never disappoints! I had the wet burrito with their habanero salsa (a "secret" you have to ask for), and it was incredible. The drinks are just as good, strong, well made, and always on point. We got a blackberry Margarita pitcher to share. Loved it! If you haven't been to this location yet, you definitely should. It truly stands out as the best!
The restaurant had lots of open seating both inside and on the patio. The patio has umbrellas for some sun coverage! Waitress came out quickly to take our food and drink orders. Chips/salsa/bean dip was brought out to the table first so we could snack before our main food and drinks arrived. Margaritas were good, not too light or too strong. The food was good but felt like something was lacking. The waitress packed up our leftovers which was nice of her! Overall I would return to explore the menu further.
Tried the fish tacos and quesadilla at Zócalo. The fish tacos were flavorful and fresh, with a good balance of seasoning and toppings. My favorite item on the menu ! The quesadilla was cheesy, crispy, and satisfying. Service was friendly and the atmosphere was lively and welcoming. Solid spot for casual Mexican food and drinks. I'd come back to try more items on the menu.
Perfect restaurant for a nice dinner. Decor and music was very vibey. Food and drinks were decent. Service was spotty. Waiter left us alone for the most part. I've had better Mexican food but I understand the concept.
Zocalo has always been one of my favorite spots in Sacramento for Happy Hour (HH). I received a coupon for a free entree in the mail, so I went ahead and planned a solo date for myself. Of course I went during Happy Hour to sweeten the deal. I started off with their Ceviche de Guaymas - Shrimp ($12 HH) and Mango Fresco Margarita ($10 HH). The ceviche was very fresh and flavorful, but difficult to eat with the chips served so I ended up using the ones that are served with their complimentary black beans and salsa. Next I ordered the En Mole Enchilada ($26), which is one of my favorites! It comes with either 2 or 3 enchiladas ($2 difference) and rice/black beans. Also ordered the Blackberry Margarita ($10 HH)... never disappoints. I decided to end the night with the Siete Leguas Anejo ($12 HH). The host came to check to see how the service was. My waiter was friendly and attentive, so there were no complaints from me. I was later surprised with a small tasting of their flan, which was the icing on the cake. I loved that it was more of a custard versus a gelatin. It can be hard dining out by yourself, but they made the experience so enjoyable for me. Thank you Zocalo!
Great atmosphere, great dishes and amazing happy hour. This is the place to be for happy hour. I visit the midtown spot often, just because you can visit different location while grabbing a bite. But this location has always been my favorite when you want to unwind and enjoy a drink. Service is on point. When it get busy, be patient and they will for sure come by and check on you
This place is heavenly: Blackberry margaritas. Enchiladas mole. Chicken nachos. Baja fish tacos. Carnitas. Warm, toasty chips, salsa, and beans served right away. We love this place. It's pretty lively on the weekend evenings. There's nice seating indoors and outdoors (heaters for colder days). The service is always great. Get there early for the happy hour--we fill up on 2-3 appetizers and a couple drinks.

So this was my first time having dinner at this location . Unfortunately it was a huge let down. Let's start with the positives , the inside of the restaurant was beautiful , the ambiance was really nice . The BEST part of the dinner was the service , the service was absolutely amazing,,, thank you to all the servers who made the dinner tolerable . Now unfortunately for the negative,;; the food was terrible ! EVERYTHING came out cold , the enchiladas had little to no flavor , the black beans also did not have a good flavor . It's to bad because we had high hopes for this restaurant . read more

I've been to Zocalo a number of times and I wanted to give the mole enchilada a second chance. Maybe at the time I didn't understand & appreciate the complex flavors of mole well enough. Being Indian myself, I regularly eat a cuisine that has complex flavors. The mole was a bit sweet but very complex. It somewhat reminded me of tamarind used in Indian food. I appreciated how the mole complemented the flavorful chicken within the enchilada. It was a great flavor and I really liked it this time around. In addition to the mole, I tried the other two sauces- Rojas and Guanajuato. They also had their unique complex flavors that were delicious. This was a great lunch to have on a cold December day! read more

I would like to say I have been here a few times and my fiance favors the other location better. We signed up for their Casamigos event while having dinner and the Opentable reservation was not working and with a few back and fort the manager, we figured it out. Few weeks passed, it was Monday night. I know, who goes out Tequila tasting on a Monday? Me and my friends. Trust me, we have careers. We save lives. Haha. That is why We NEED this night! Well, long story short, I told the ladies in the front, we are there for our reservation and well well well, for some reason, our reservation was NOT for the event. Ohhh no! Me and my friends were sooo ready to blog this moment, also need to review on the yelpsies.But they cannot find us... what?! I was upset. But they said they can have a table ready. But we were there for the Mariachi!!! We were seated behind the crowd with velvet couch but they told us, they will make sure that the mariachi will come to us. Hesitantly we sat down, separate from the crowd BUT it ended up being the MOST AMAZING experience EVER. Let me first say RYAN oh RYAN, give this guy a raise. Best server, customer service hands down. He knows his stuff, the attention to detail, the food, and rapport building- awesome! Shoutout to all the support staff and D'Andre for the Extra Extra! Love the drinks and it was delicious! Also for taking the time to check up on us and it felt so special. The Mariachi came and it felt like we were in CDMX! Managers Claudine and Gabriel stopped by and again, everyone server was attentive, food was great , delicious food, empanada was yummy and the desert was perfect. We were so full, we can't eat anymore. Oh and Ryan, Happy Graduation! Kudos Zocalo! Making our experience so special, worth the $$$! Would do it again, please invite us for your next event! This is a beautifully decorated restaurant with great food and drinks! We immediately got seated for the 3 of us. We were given water and some delicious chips and salsa with beans to begin with... delicious!!!!!! The texture and flavor of the chips is everything I love!!! I got three different chicken enchiladas and I honestly couldn't tell you which one I liked more!!! The tacos are delicious (although my friend said it was too saucy... that's what I liked most about it) everything was fresh and the service was great. We will be back and hopefully during happy hour as I hear they have some great deals! read more

Something new today a Salmon Bowl. It was just what I needed today. Nice chunk of Salmon with sweet potato's and greens and rice etc. Andrea had the burrito as normal it was great Michelle was our waitress and took good care of us. Stopped in with a party of four and were seated immediately, even without a reservation--huge plus! Busy night and service was still on point. The customer service was excellent, and the food was absolute perfection. Cocktails were delicious as always. Zocalo continues to be a top restaurant in the area and a go-to favorite. Loved the vibe and the food at Zocalo. It was our first time there and when the servers found out they went out of their way to welcome us and bring us a sample to try -- mini conchinita pibils which were so yummy. My friend decided to changed her order from fish tacos to a full portion of this but it was too late. So instead they brought us another sampling! I had the tostadas de carnitas and they were amazing. Smaller portion but I was full from the samplings. Love Zocalo! Will return when I'm in the area. read more

Can I bring my own cake?
Yes you can bring your own cake. I brought a cake for a farewell party we had for a colleague. Our server even put the cake in their fridge until we were ready to serve it. :-)
Do they have live music and what type?
Not aware of live music. You may want to contact Zocalo and ask.
Is there child menu are children allowed or should we avoid?
I don’t see a kids menu but you can order quesadillas for them or a serving of rice and chicken. Don’t know how old the kids are but they should be fine. The food is very good.
Are they strictly a bar? I'm 19 so can I still go?
its a restaurant. They do have a bar area, like many restaurants. You absolutely can go there! Enjoy :-)

Great place! I highly suggest it for birthdays and group outings. I would also suggest a reservation. They have a little room that is kind of secluded from the main dining room.
