I have to say the food was good. The smash burger was a hit. The ribeye was a little lacking in flavor and thickness - lol. But the veggies were good. Their devil eggs were ok. Friday at 5pm and barely a crowd - surprising, because this place absolutely looks the part. Warm, open, cool gastro pub energy, and an impressive bourbon selection with fun flight options. If you're vegetarian, temper your expectations. I wanted to love this place but the plant-based options were limited to bar snacks: cauliflower bites, fries, hummus, a single salad, and mac and cheese. What's frustrating isn't just the selection, but the missed potential. Not one veggie sandwich option. The stuffed peppers could easily have a meatless version; the Brussels sprouts didn't need bacon; the farmers market salad could offer prosciutto as an add-on rather than a default. Small tweaks, big difference. A little more intentionality here would go a long way. On the bright side, the bourbon flights are a real highlight, and the space itself is a win - open, airy, and flooded with natural light, making it perfect for happy hour. The gastro pub vibe is genuinely cool, and you can tell this place has a lot of potential. Meat eaters and whiskey fans will love it here. Vegetarians, though, will find themselves grazing on sides and calling it a meal. My best friend and I came here yesterday for lunch. I noticed that they had a burger with chips special for $14 from 11am to 3pm. So I ordered that and she got the Bruschetta with olive tapenade (idk if I spelled it right). The burger was really good. My best friend said that the bruschetta was salty but she enjoyed it. The ambiance was super cute and I loved how we had to enter in from the coffee place in the back. I loved how the lighting was calm for the both of us. The service, was good at first until we didn't see the person who was helping us for over 35 mins. Until another server came to our table and asked how we were doing and told them that our server (who was the bartender Rona) had not come back to our table (Rona did come back a bit later, apologized and stated that they were training someone). I used to work in the service industry for years and understand how things happen but I felt like they could've communicated better with us. The reason for the 3 star is the service was kind of a big thing for us as we were wanting to get more water and another round of drinks too while we're there. Attentive, friendly service. I like the ambiance - the entrance is behind the Cora coffee shop, so it's got a bit of speakeasy vibe. Happy hour is awesome here - $7 aviation and tonic was my favorite, and the food quality exceeded my expectation. Definitely will be in my rotation. read more

Regrettably I was hungover beyond belief on my visit to Citizen and only really got to experience the bathrooms which were tidy, clean and easy to find. Others in my group really quite enjoyed their beverages, food and the beer and our server was a sweet and silly addition to the experience. Came with a buddy for lunch and got the buffalo chicken sandwich. It looked phenomenal when they brought it. The second I took a bite though, I realized it was mostly bread. The chicken was actually very small and my last few bites were bun. It was pretty tasty but the buffalo sauce really overpowered the sandwich. The fries were super crispy and really good. They've got an extensive menu and lots of beers. I would definitely come back and try some other things. My friend got the burger and said it was really good. Service was pretty good too. We stopped here for a quick bite to eat and only had a few snacks and appetizers but they were great! I ordered the deviled eggs, crab cakes and tacos, and would order them all again. The tacos were especially good, having a fantastic mix of flavors from the battered shrimp, cream sauce, red onion, tomato, cilantro, lemon, and crispy textured flour tortilla. I was making an effort to be present at this meal, so unfortunately no pictures. However, this was a great early dinner stop in Sac before heading downtown for a show at Golden 1! We arrived just in time for happy hour to be in progress on a Wednesday night. I made reservations but we didn't need them. We were asked to seat ourselves and found a table. This is where I had to knock off a star. It took about 10 minutes for someone to take our drink order. When a server arrived, she apologized because all but one server and one bartender were in a "meeting". Management- maybe no meetings at the start of dinner time? Duh! After that snafu, everything went well. The highlights were the steak frites and the drunken cauliflower bites. So perfectly tender! The crème brûlée is also a must get for a sweet treat! The restaurant itself is slick and has a large bar and mostly booth seating. The restrooms are individuals stalls with sinks in the hallway- gender neutral. I would certainly recommend this place if you're in the area or wanting a spot out of the hustle and bustle to enjoy dinner before a big show. Cheers! read more

Ordered happy hour drinks, happy hour Mac n cheese, pulled pork sliders and the French dip sliders and the loco moco. All the drinks were fantastic. The Mac n cheese was good (small portion). The pickles were outstanding and a good selection of cheese and toast points. The snacks were less stellar but the green eggs and ham deviled eggs were good. We ordered the steak tartare and that was fantastic. Excellent flavors from the finely cut steak, creamy eggs yolk, and herbs/spices. This made for an excellent proper appetizer. Our main we shared was a jambalaya pasta. It had good flavor and plenty of protein inside, but I would've preferred a saucier version or a soupier version with rice. It wasn't a home run, but wasn't bad at all. Overall it was a great experience. It's a nicely decorated space with a fascinatingly large selection of bottles of liquor. Passing through Sacramento on a road trip and decided to try Citizen Capitol Craft House after seeing some good reviews. So glad we did! This is definitely not your typical bar-and-grill. This place has a total upscale vibe to it. We started with the wings (Buffalo and IPA honey mustard dry rub) both were packed with flavor. The Tuna Poke Tower was super fresh and beautifully layered with a wasabi sauce at the base, and the hummus platter with toasted bread was loaded with toppings that made it anything but boring. For mains, we shared a juicy burger with crispy fries, a crunchy chicken sandwich, and a perfectly cooked sea bass over colorful veggies. Everything was delicious and way above our expectations. Our server was awesome! She was super attentive and all her recommendations were spot on. Even the manager stopped by a couple of times to make sure we were enjoying everything, which was a nice touch. This is a very cool bar tucked behind a nice coffee shop with beautiful blue tuck and roll upholstery. We were served two nice cocktails and wine, but the food was..... disappointing. The first disappointment was that the two menu items that excited us- the crab rolls and pork belly sliders- were not available. They were out of them. So we went back to the menu. We started with French fries for our 8 month old which were, fine, not note worthy. Our next dish was a very generous portion of Mac and cheese. We enjoyed the garlic cheese flavor, but the texture was too Velveeta-y for us. Next were the fried mushrooms which were not pleasant. The exterior was nicely fried but the spicy sauce and cream cheese filling did not complement each other. The mushroom was not fully cooked, and the whole thing needed salt. Our last dish was fish and chips. We decided to have potato chips, since we had already had their fries, which were labeled as house made, but it sure looked and tasted like someone dumped chips from a bag onto the plate. They weren't terribly crisp or well seasoned. The fish itself was excellent. Crispy exterior and flakey, tender interior. Our server was very nice. The only problem is the food, sadly, we will probably not be returning. read more

Just ate here during lunch with coworkers. The prices were a little on the $$ side for a quick lunch if you're hungry enough for an entree, but the lunch options were decent . I wish they had a lunch menu equivalent to their happy hour, it would really draw the state and area workers to the location. My coworker and I shared a smash burger (14 with single patty) and chicken sandwich ( $15) and the chicken sandwich was AMAZING. One thing I didn't like was the mustard, but I'm just not a mustard person. The burger was pretty good too! The chips were a hit and a good alternative to French fries. Went for happy hour...got there just in time. Parking was pretty easy to find around 5:45. Happy hour is over at 6:00. The place has a nice vibe. Great seating, colors, etc. Great music. We sat at the bar. They have four TVs (two on each side of the bar). For some of the seating next to the bar you can see the TVs, but not all. The happy hour menu is great. Super reasonably priced, especially nowadays. See pics for happy hour menu and non-happy hour menu. The old fashioned was great and so was the Negroni. And get this...got a gin and soda for $5. Cannot beat that! Food was good. We ordered the wagyu sliders, carrots, and cheese plate. Our bartender/server was Rachel, she was great. She provided info on the truffle jack cheese that was on the cheese plate. The pistachios with the truffle jack cheese....Sooo good. The pesto was great too. Stopped in for a late dinner. Staff and food were both excellent! The crunchiest best tasting French fries I've ever had! Hubby had the fish & chips and I had the French dip. The house made red wine au jus was divine. When hubby handed me a piece of his perfectly cooked crispy crunchy fish it accidentally fell into my au jus.
