The location is centrally located and appears to be family-owned, which adds to its charm. The food tasted good, but the portions were on the smaller side. Service was friendly and attentive when we were being helped, though it didn't seem like the servers had designated sections, which led to some delays. Most of the main dishes came à la carte, and for the price, I expected sides to be included--especially with the taco plates. That said, this restaurant has a lot of potential and a strong foundation. The atmosphere does a great job capturing the Mexican theme and creates an enjoyable dining experience. With a few tweaks to portions and service flow, this place could easily become a standout spot.

Service was quite slow (they had signs asking for patience as they were understaffed). Food felt pricey as well for the quality. The owner / manager was very friendly though.

My wife and I returned for lunch yesterday to "Tequilas" or "Alebrije Mexican Restaurant & Bar". There were about 5 others in the restaurant. We ordered a 'happy hour' margarita that was about 70% ice and tasted weak. My wife had the chicken enchiladas. They were cold and hard, but they had okay flavor. I ordered the fish tacos. My three tacos together had about 1 ounce of fish. They had fresh toppings and salsa and decent flavor, but the value just wasn't there. Sadly, it seems that this restaurant prepares food ahead of time and it's not always hot upon delivery. The $6 chips and salsa were good (well, the green salsa was good, the chips just average to below average). Their fajitas aren't even sizzling according to the menu. I guess they're not counting on repeat customers. We won't be returning.

Kids chicken quesadilla. $15, overpriced, tiny, horrible

Ordered a kids chicken quesadilla to go. It was extremely overpriced for $15. I thought it was going to be a typical serving for that price. It was tiny, very little chicken, and tasted horrible. See the photo of the inside for yourself. I rarely give one star reviews but serving a customer this is just embarrassing. I wish we could get a refund. 0/5

If you eat here, you will have PTSD from having bad food and no amount of therapy will make you want to eat Mexican food again! The cook needs a severe shouting from Gordon Ramsay. Maybe then he/ she would realize they are not cut out to be in the kitchen. I'm surprised this has five star reviews. Do these people who give such a restaurant five stars lack taste buds?! I wish I hadn't read those 5 star reviews that made me spend on such lousy food! Poblano chicken was boiled chicken with poblano and tasteless. Guacamole lacked salt and tortilla chips were so hard, Asada fajitas was Bland . No flavor. Hospital food for the recovering patient. Our meal was $100 plus- what a rip off for such bad food!

The burrito was the only good thing. Others were average. We ordered a pozole, burrito, enchilada and kids nachos. Service, very slow. A few items were not available. The kids menu was updated. Adding the picture for that.

We are vegetarians and really enjoy spicy food. On big island, we really missed the flavorful spicy food and TEQUILAS restaurant really surpassed our expectations when we asked them for making it spicy ! If on big island, this place is a must ! Food is delicious, fresh and tasty for all different spice levels - mild(for kids, my little one enjoyed their beans and rice and cheese quesadillas), medium - just right and spicy- their side salsas added this to our taste buds ! Very kind owner and smiling staff. Ambiance is just perfect for us adults and for my kid too. MUST TRY ! This is a live review :D I am that grateful for this food and happy we had our dinner here tonight !

Love the soyrizo tacos and guacamole molcajete at happy hour and their habanero margarita here. Highlight is the salsas- the salsa roja and salsa verde are both so full of flavor, I was eating them by the spoonful! Service is super friendly too. Best place to pop in for a mid afternoon snack.

NOW CALLED Tequilas: The ambiance is quiet when few people are there, but it is rather small and would get loud quickly if they were busy. The service was friendly but seemed like they could be overwhelmed if more than 5 tables were filled. The food, it's just ok honestly. Being from a southern mainland state, we have lots of Mexican places to eat at and this place was honestly bottom tier compared to those but I understand this is a different place. The food tasted fresh, but none of it was really worth the price in our opinion. It's not a bad spot, just other better places to eat.

We visited for a late lunch and my husband wanted tacos, after a disappointing experience at the hotel the day prior. The restaurant was slow. We were the only guests before a large party arrived. We came bc of a post a couple of weeks prior of a salad. When we inquired about it the management seemed puzzled and said they didn't offer it. I ordered a pink guava margarita. It was super potent. The burrito bowl was good but the portion was tiny. The kids had a quesadilla kids meal. It came with three small quesadillas made with a corn tortilla. It wasn't what they were used to. We asked for salsa with our tacos but didn't realize it was an additional $4 charge. We were shocked to discover our total for tacos, and bowl, two kids meals, and a margarita was more than $120. It was okay. Probably a one and done experience.

The food was very flavorful. I had the Asada burrito and my friend had the asada bowl. The drinks were really good too! So many tequilas! The service was top tier. Very friendly. We will be back. Only thing is we would have loved some chips and salads on the table while we waited for food like at home. It was only one other table during happy hour. Good music, clean space, recommend.

I haven't done a review in a while but I felt like one was due for this restaurant…read more I just want to say we have been to a lot of restaurants on the big island and some multiple times including the newly opened marlin bar. Consistency was key here and everything was on point. Service was excellent, food came out quick and hot, fresh and delicious. The prices were reasonable especially for the quality of food. We went to napua for the 2nd time and it was not as good. They raised their prices again so 62 for a plate of fish (mahi mahi with rice and green beans) and it was dry and lacking in flavor. Just for 3 of us it came to almost 200.00 you just pay for the ambience at that restaurant. We went to lava lava beach club and the prices went up and the food was terrible. Again your paying for the ambience their but there the pork was fatty, fish sandwich tasted like canned tuna and the pork sandwich idk it tasted like the smell of throw up. Ceviche was horrible and paid 30 dollars for a tiny tostada with some shrimp and fish that was super super fishy. This was the best place so far besides pono Hawaiian deli (poke spot best poke ever!!) or getting your own fish at the farmers market in Waimea I wanted to add this to highlight this particular restaurant. We ate here 4 times (3 dining and once to go) and all the times it was so good. We got the island waygu burger it was cooked perfect and seasoned well, we ordered the coconut shrimp this was delicious, we ordered fish and chips (lightly breaded not overly oily or fried it was light airy and crispy), we ordered the corn dip and this was surprisingly refreshing with their homemade chips, order the hot chicken sandwich and wow this was lightly panko breaded and it was not overly hot and spicy everything paired well with it, also got the regular waygu burger and it was again cooked perfect and exploded with flavor. Finally tonight came back on our last night and I ordered the kona kampachi, wow wow wow it was cooked to perfection (finally a restaurant that can cook fish correctly and not over cook it) the miso butter worked perfectly and the portion was huge!! And only for 36 dollars like com on. My wife got the mahi mahi fish tacos and that was delicious with the lime cream sauce. All the nights we went there never broke 100 dollars and that says something in Hawaii and it literally beats every other restaurant so far for the price, ambience and quality of food. Consistency was key please if you're reading this owner or chef of this restaurant please stay this consistent!! Thank you!!

For starters, there's no reservations - walk ins only but we've never waited more than 10 minutes for a table for lunch or dinner. Our first time visiting was for Mother's Day Lunch and it was delightful. We started with the steak flatbread which was soooo delicious. The steak was cooked perfectly and paired with delicious carmelized onions and arugula and the flat bread was a perfectly balanced crunch and doughiness. Then we shared the mahi mahi tacos, honey chicken sandwich, and chopped salad with fillet which were all incredible. Nothing was a miss! Our second time coming back during our vacation was for dinner, which had some new additions to the menu such as the shrimp garlic noodles which were an excellent blend of umami and richness that melts in your mouth.

However, when it comes to the food, I would definitely say I've had better; especially at more local places for the price point. The food was by no means bad, it was actually pretty decent, but it wasn't $56 for a piece of fish good. That said, the Hook, Line & Sinker is what I ordered and, if you like seafood, it is a tasty dish. The fish is also served with a side of wasabi mashed potatoes that were unique and quite good, though I honestly wish there was a bit more wasabi flavor in them. Overall, a cool experience and place to try, but I'd say more so for the view and atmosphere than the food itself.

I will say the host staff came across as a bit snarky. One of them made a joke about us waiting an hour, even though we hadn't mentioned the wait time at all. It wasn't a huge issue, but it did stand out. On the positive side, our server was excellent--attentive, friendly, and on top of everything throughout the meal. The food was good, and the portion sizes felt fair for the price. Also, the bartender reminded me of Wells Adams, which gave us a good laugh. Overall, the incredible views, solid food, and great service from our server made for an enjoyable experience. I'd definitely come back again.
