The food options were plentiful and I liked how the menu reflected Japanese American food. The teriyaki sauce was noticeably flavorful-right amount of savory, sweet, and tangy flavor that you can add on top of your protein and vegetables. The chicken was cooked perfectly, the rib eye was seasoned well, but slightly dark colored (not sure if it's a little burnt), but I enjoyed the taste, make maybe not the presentation. I appreciated that the server gave me half and half white and brown rice options, which I want to add was cooked al dente. The restaurant itself was white, spacious, and clean. We have been waiting to try this location for some time now. We've seen the one at Lewelling, but that one is too far for us to go to. As soon as we walked in, we noticed it was very clean, with a lot of employees busy at work. We came in after the rush hour on Sunday afternoon and were greeted immediately. We had not been there before, so we took some time to look over the menu, but the cashier did let us know about the 2-5pm special, which actually worked great for our kids. They are in the stage where kids' meals are too small for them and adult meals are too large, but not large enough for them to share. So a bowl for $9.95 was perfect. My husband ordered their Ribeye and chicken bento box with all rice, no veggies or fruit. At first glance, it did not look like enough food for him, but nonetheless, the food was tasty, really well seasoned, and he liked it. By the time he ate it all, it was definitely enough for him. I ordered the Ribeye and shrimp bento box as it comes. I loved the spicy mayo with my shrimp--I even took some home for my poke bowls. The shrimp and Ribeye were really well seasoned. I loved the dressing on the salad; it really complemented all the flavors on the plate. My kids destroyed their all-rice and chicken bowls. New spot in the old Jamba Juice location at A Street and Mission Blvd, and it's a great addition to a strip mall that needed a boost after Jamba and Starbucks closed. The space has been completely redone -- bright, inviting, and larger than it looks from the outside. Good amount of seating including a communal high-top, plus plenty of parking. Ordering is easy. You can go to the counter or use a tablet kiosk. Menu is simple and well laid out with bentos, bowls, salads, and sushi rolls. We tried the dumplings and two bentos. Ribeye and shrimp bento came with salad and a large, fresh orange. Ribeye was thin but tender, shrimp were smaller but cooked well and not overdone. Teriyaki chicken and ribeye bento was just as solid. What stood out was the balance -- nothing was over-sauced, just enough flavor without being heavy. Dumplings were light, slightly crispy, and not doughy. Really good texture. Sauces were a highlight, especially their "hot" sauce -- reminded me of a crab boil with a nice kick. Staff was friendly, helpful, and seemed to genuinely enjoy being there. Overall, really good experience. I'll definitely be back. Caught the Grand Opening of Teriyaki City Grill today and I'm glad I did! Despite the crowd, the wait wasn't long at all. They have a huge variety, from organic tofu and salmon to sushi rolls and family-style platters for four. I tried the chicken and ribeye bento box. The flavors were on point, especially that salad dressing! The portions felt a little on the smaller side today, but given it was their first day, I'm looking forward to coming back and giving it another go. Came in here to check out whats good. After my kids got their free cub meals from Panda Express. This store used to be Jamba Juice before someone decided to run their car into it. I decided on the Chicken and Shrimp Bento, it was $17 with Tax included. I thought it was a solid 3 out of 5. Chicken had good sear to the meat and it had great flavor to it. The Shrimp on the other hand was cooked good but lacking flavor. Barely any seasoning to the shrimp. Don't let the picture fool you. It was all rice in the bottom. It had little to no meat! Service was fast with 7-8 workers! Inside had plenty of seats and tables to eat at. Came in just before 1pm. It was pretty busy and the crowd was good. All the tables were full. Parking lot was also full. It's a hit and miss type of situation with parking. Parking lot is shared with Subway, Cold Stone Creamy nextdoor. Also Lucky supermarket, Peets coffee and other stores. Grand opening 1/22 we arrive 6pm after work. Lines long -- okay understandable. Their grand opening limits 1x 6.99 special chicken bowl per person. Me, wife and kid, family of 3 are here. The cashier questions whether my kid is actually going to eat the chicken bowl. Perhaps as a way to limit this grand opening deal. That's just weird behavior. Lastly we try to get an entire California roll à la carte, but was denied because they only sell it as an up charge $3.00 if you get a bento. Overall first impression not great. Foods whatever. Three Stars: I stopped by Teriyaki City Hayward during their grand opening weekend after passing by and decided to give them a try on Sunday, January 25th. They did have a special deal going on, but I opted for regularly priced items. I ordered a spicy chicken teriyaki bowl, a butter chicken teriyaki bowl, both with brown rice, and an order of 10 dumplings. Unfortunately, I was disappointed once I got home, which is only about five minutes away. Both teriyaki bowls were completely cold. The chicken, broccoli, and carrots were all cold, as if they had been sitting out for some time. The only item that was warm were the dumplings, which made me wonder if the bowls had been prepared earlier and held while waiting for the dumplings to be freshly made. I've posted photos for reference. Flavor-wise, the spicy chicken was not spicy enough for me and the seasoning overall was pretty underwhelming. There was nothing particularly memorable about the flavors, and everything leaned more toward fast food vibes rather than a specialty teriyaki experience. I also waited in the restaurant for quite a while before my number was called, so I was surprised that the food was not hot or even warm when served. Additionally, miso soup is listed on the menu but is not currently being served, and ice cream was advertised inside the restaurant but also unavailable. It would be helpful to clearly note these items as not yet offered, especially during a grand opening. I understand opening weekends can be hectic, and I may give them another try once the hype dies down. That said, for $36, the experience was underwhelming. read more

We got the honey walnut shrimp roll 10/10 it was delicious. she wanted to try the dumplings they were like potstickers. i'm not really a potsticker girly but they were good still. She also got the ribeye and shrimp bento box and it was delicious. I got the salmon bowl and it was okay the salmon could have used some more seasoning kind of bland i put the teriyaki sauce all over it and it was better. Also the veggies for it were barely steamed they could have been cooked longer and at least salt and pepper. The california rolls were $4 or so to add it to a part of our meal so that was a cool plus as well. The customer service was great, it was our first time there and we were really indecisive and the cashier was patient and help us out. some of the extra sauces on the side were not that great or have to be for something very specific for it to taste right . Visited this location and had a frustrating experience. We ordered the happy hour chicken bowl, but it was made with steak instead of chicken. We also ordered a salmon roll, and the salmon looked oddly colored, which honestly made us question the freshness. While we were waiting, they called three order numbers that came after ours, and then I saw staff tell someone to make the salmon roll which made it obvious the roll had been forgotten while our bowl was sitting there getting cold. On top of that, the place is already very small, and at least four of the booths were taken up by people filling out job applications while there were 6-7 employees already working behind the counter. That left almost no seating for actual customers. It also took multiple employees standing around talking while the roll was being made, and by the time we got it, it looked pretty unappetizing. For comparison, the San Leandro location is much better and we've had good experiences there. This location unfortunately did not meet the same standard. read more

Never been to any of their other locations so this is definitely a fresh and honest review. Probably not the best decision to visit while they're having their grand opening promos, but if you are in the area and you happen to roll by and don't see a long line out the door, then I would say you are in luck. You are getting a better deal than most fast food. Now if all these things don't align, try another time and here's our take on what you get. We ordered Chicken Bowl, Rib eye Bowl, Chicken/Rib eye/Short Rib Bento, 2 Lion King Roll (special BOGO), order of 10 dumplings. For the taste... If you frequent other places that serve the same items in their menu, you know what you're getting coz they are basically the same. You really have to put more effort into messing up protein/teriyaki than perfecting it. I guess that's a nicer way of saying "nothing special". The Lion King Roll is baked so expect a much, much longer wait which may be worth it for some if you're getting the BOGO deal. You can't pick it up without it falling apart and you're getting the flavors in separate bites. Splurge and visit your favorite sushi place! And to our surprise, we enjoyed the dumplings the most. It's crispy on the outside with enough filling that's not bland, except they don't give you enough dipping sauce (which you can easily make at home). But keep in mind that you'll probably get the same as appetizer at most places. If you really enjoy dumplings, there are specialty places for them. For the value... definitely make good use of the promos! If you must order separately (promos cannot be combined), do it! And you only have until 2/5/2026. The Chicken bowl is a decent deal since you're also getting a drink. You're saving around $6.50 (around $4 if you don't care to for a drink). And obviously the rolls... 2 for the price of one and you might really enjoy them if you're not too picky. For the regular prices, you can visit other places for better value. $20+ for the combination bento is pretty steep for a joint like this. And you're not getting much. The picture will show a heaping serving of meat, but that's on top of rice. The two other sections are for the salad and half an orange. But even if they put the rice in place of the orange and stack your 3 proteins in that one section, you're still better off going elsewhere. I can name a number of proper/3-course/sit down Japanese places where you can get more for your money. And even if you don't have the time, get your bento box to go elsewhere. For the total experience... Do NOT go during peak hours! The line to order was long but goes quickly. If you're only getting a couple of items without sushi rolls, you might be in and out. It took us ONE HOUR for what we ordered! I could've walked in at my favorite Japanese restaurant and be out in one hour after being seated and served! And I still paid $75 with a promo! I watched several customers who came after us walk away with their food. And when I finally got ours and asked for extra teriyaki sauce, they pointed me to the one dispenser where I watched multiple customers (for the last hour!) struggle with the pump because it was empty. Yet, they didn't have issues handing out those pre-filled containers from under the counter to others. But it's our first visit and was only going based on other reviews (which has always been a hit/miss). And they didn't even have the ice cream items yet! First thing I should've asked. Another lesson learned. In closing... yes, we MIGHT come back only for the ice cream. It is a little out of my way and definitely have had better. I ordered teriyaki chicken and Rib Eye at 12:30pm. I asked for extra teriyaki sauce, but the cashier was so rude. She didn't want to give me the extra, saying there were 2 in the bag.
