It's a good spot, but it's not enough for a 5 star because the competition around it is fairly better. As far as taste goes, I'd go to Sarku Japan a block from here. For affordability, there's a vendor in the Jamaica Market where they have a lunch special for just $6. There's also a hole in the wall spot called PP Boy that has a better selection of Sushi rolls. Anyway I'll get to why I rated this place a 4. The food is average, it's not bad but it's not good enough to stand out. Props to the ladies on service, they are on point and are very kind so I will always give good commendation on enthusiastic service. I got the Chicken bento which does come with teriyaki chicken & rice, steamed veggies, 2 spring rolls, 2 gyoza dumplings and 4 California rolls for $12.99 which is decent but would be perfect with a drink included. Chicken teriyaki w/ rice was pretty good, veggies were alright, spring rolls were good, dumplings were decent but I'd prefer them steamed than fried and the Cali rolls were alright. Could've came with a cup of soy sauce and Wasabi sauce which they didn't have so that's a miss on their part. If this joint were the only spot of its kind within a 10 block radius, I'd come here more than once, but with Sarku Japan, PP Boy, 2 Asian fusion spots in Jamaica Market and Panda Express all within a sole block from one another, It'll be awhile before this place sees me again. Too many options for them to stand out.

I'm going to give an honest review I'm kind of disappointed on the sushi rolls because I had ordered the avocado and cucumber sushi rolls, and once they had gave it to me my impression was 'what the hell is that' ....the rolls are literally so small I could literally get a seven dollar sushi box that bring six at queens center mall. I haven't tried any other dishes but to be honest I don't even want to go back. Overall customer service was nice. I'll be showing pictures of the sushi rolls and comparison between the sushi and a quarter..... I'm literally not lying, I was shook, or am I dramatic idkkk you guys be the judge.

This is a newly opened restaurant that replaced what used to be a Starbucks. I was excited to see more Asian-like options on the Ave since I have lunch in the area every now and then. I typically would get Caribbean/West Indian food or fast food so it's nice to have some diversification. The items on the menu are synonymous with the only other teriyaki place located just a couple blocks away. I avoided the sushi rolls for safety reasons (trust an Asian on this) and the milk teas because I only buy from places that use actual tea leaves and not the powdered products. I got the beef and shrimp teriyaki and my total was around $17. It seems like a lot of food at first glance but it's really mainly filled to the brim with rice and cabbage. I wanted to like it considering how much I paid for it but the shrimp was slightly over done and the beef was too starchy. The flavor was decent - the sauce was definitely more on the sweeter side. It did provide an aesthetic glaze to the food but other than that, it serves no other purpose. I prefer my usual food court teriyaki where the same thing goes for $12.

Both were excellent and tasted like something that came out of my grandmother's kitchen. The owners are Peruvian and Japanese-- imagine those 2 cuisines melded to create the most flavorful meals. Fantastic.... Simply fantastic. The food reflects the love they put in. Remember, you pay for what you get and a not a single dime went to waste while enjoying every last bite. I live about 1.5 miles away and will be making the trip back this way regularly now, as they have a new customer and fan.

I asked for hot green tea while he got a bottle of Japanese pineapple soda. We ordered at the counter because no one was when we entered so we didn't know if there was table service. This spot used to be a Chinese takeout so it is definitely on the casual side. We sat at one of the tables (5 two tops). We had grabbed some disposable chopsticks and napkins from the counter. When the server came with the tonkatsu and tempura, she had napkins and chopsticks for us so I guess we didn't have to help ourselves beforehand. She then came with a lovely teapot and two small cups for the tea. The tempura was different from most places - no crunchy panko crust and no dipping sauce. When she came back, I asked about a sauce and she pointed to a small dish with thick dark sauce. I had thought that was for the tonkatsu. The poke took even longer and that was also different from what I'm used to. The fish pieces were not marinated - she gave me a small dish with soy sauce. The sliced jalapeño was also a surprise. I had thought I would get a spicy marinade on the poke. I mixed in the soy sauce and ate it with the sliced jalapeños. When we came home and looked at the receipt, the prices were weird. The tea was $1.56 and the $22 dishes were $22.88. Apparently we were charged a 4% credit fee which wasn't disclosed - or we missed the sign.

Intimate setting where you can really enjoy your dinner and company and also get to know the owners. Family owned and taken care of very well. All the food here is fresh and delicious and creative. Not your standard NYC Japanese restaurant but they take care to all their dishes. Highlights were the special tofu dish and toro salad. Tempura were all made well and not oily. Great katsu and anything on the sushi menu was divine. Love the toro, yellowtail, and sea urchin. Can't go wrong with either the nigiri or sashimi choices. A wonderful alcohol selection as well with special items i've never seen before but very refreshing were the green tea beer and the yuzu beer. A gem in forest hills and a must try. Definitely a repeat go to place and wonderful place in the neighborhood.

First of all, we couldn't find the place because there is no signage. I guess that's part of the "charm"? But literally when we found it we didn't even know if the place was open. The gates were down, the windows were basically covered and nothing about the place was welcoming. We realized they were in fact open so we approached the door. We were greeted by a piece of paper stating "reservations only". We entered anyway and the place was EMPTY. There was one couple seated but other than that the place was EMPTY. The hostess approached us and I asked her if we needed a reservation and she said we did. So we said ok we'll come back another time and then she said, " well since it's pretty quiet tonight we can seat you." We should have left. We were in there for about an hour give or take and no one else came in at all. At all. Anyways, we ordered our food. I ordered the sashimi plate and my husband ordered a couple rolls. We also ordered the crab and avocado salad and the hamachi kama. Everything was basic. Nothing was amazing...oh except the price of the hamachi kama. Menu said market price and I get it, that means the price will fluctuate accordingly, but $60 for the hamachi kama? I almost fell off my chair when the bill came. I have eaten at very high end sushi restaurants and am almost 50 years old. I have never had a $60 hamachi kama. This one wasn't even tasty!!! It was not good or flavorful. Tasted like they just defrosted and microwaved it. I was wondering why i kept hearing a microwave go off but realized after the fact that that's what they must have done. I did not complain. We paid the bill. We left. Later that night I had stomach issues. Nicest way I can put that. I will say that i ate almost nothing that day so I can only attribute the stomach issues to the sushi. Needless to say we will not be back.

We ordered a combo with chicken popcorn, which paired perfectly with our meal, and ended on a sweet note with their matcha jelly dessert. The Thai tea was good, though a bit rich and sweet for my taste. I'd recommend diluting it slightly to balance the flavor. What really stood out, aside from the food, was the ambiance. We were seated in a cozy, semi-private booth (almost like a little dining nook), which made the whole experience feel more intimate and relaxing. The staff were also quick and courteous, adding to the overall great vibe. Definitely a spot worth coming back to.

We tried a bunch of ramens and they were all delicious. I tried the omarice, and it was good, but the glaze lacked flavor. I feel like it would be better to go with their curry sauce. Overall, a decent place for ramen, but not going to seek coming out here.

I went with my usual order -- a spider roll and spicy tuna -- and both were solid. I tried a third roll as well but honestly cannot remember what it was, and it did not leave much of an impression either way. The first two though were good enough to bring me back. The highlight of the visit was honestly our server. She was cool, spunky, and had a great sense of humor. We ended up laughing and joking around with her throughout the meal, which added a lot to the overall experience. Pleasant visit all around. We will be back.
