Haven't been here for a while and decided to come for Seattle Restaurant Week (SRW). The physical restaurant is still welcoming with rustic furniture and large windows to watch the street life. We had the SRW special for $50 (appetizer, main, dessert). The gem lettuce salad consisted of 4 leaves of gem lettuce, some torn radicchio and 2 dabs of goat cheese. The broccoli serving was 4 thin stalks of broccolini but deliciously and richly prepared. The Portuguese pig was the hit of the night--very tender with baby clams and sausage, onions, tomatoes, and a potato. Really rich and would have benefited from some bread to soak up the wonderful sauce and bits. The chicken was less than a quarter of a small bird with a small slice of potato au gratin that was slightly undercooked. Nothing special but not bad. The flan was nicely garnished with kumquat. The blood orange cheesecake was delightfully light and a nice portion. Service was inattentive. We asked to get water refills. We sat for longer than necessary with dirty dishes. We watched the server eating dinner while we waited. No one else was helping us while he ate; they were prepping tables for the next day. Terra Plata reprints their menu daily, which I get so excited about. They boast fresh, local ingredients, and it shows in their colorful dishes. However, they fall a bit short in a number of ways for me. The top patio tables are so crammed. When we were seated, we were uncomfortably close and wanted to move, but also didn't want to be those people, so we stuck it out. They seemed a bit understaffed. Our server was training, so at least they seem to be taking care of it, but he only checked on us once throughout our entire meal and wasn't helpful at all. I ordered the crudo as my entree, and while it was fresh and delicious, it was very clearly an appetizer size - it would have been nice to have had a heads up. The $45 steak was absolutely terrible. It was so gristly that it took my partner 45 minutes to finish it, and she kept having to discard pieces from a lack of being able to chew them. For the most expensive item on the menu to be a fail is a huge red flag in my book. I do love that they offer a number of alcohol-free drink options like a sparkling wine and a rose (actually delicious), as well as a non-alcoholic negroni. They also have a good selection of items that can be made gluten free. After a disappointing meal, our bill came to $122 before tip. For 2 drinks, 2 apps, and an almost-inedible entree, we were a little disappointed to have to pay so much. We most likely won't be back. read more

Last night we had an amazing meal, as always at Terra Plata. The paella was cooked perfectly, nicely crisp on the bottom we loved that there were so many Spanish wines to choose from and the mulled wine was perfect for a cold and damp night. The only drawback was that we ran out of room for the Basque cheesecake, but will be back to try to achieve that summit another time! We also want to compliment our waiter, Kevin, who was attentive without being at all intrusive, and a really friendly face to welcome us, as was the hostess. All in all, we highly recommend this great Capitol Hill restaurant. read more

The ambiance is great! Whether you sit inside or outside the views/décor are top notch. On busy nights, servers might take awhile as they handle multiple big parties but are still relatively attentive. This place might be a bit loud for a first date but a decent spot for couples grabbing dinner. The food was a little underwhelming for the price. The lamb was done with a sweet balsamic vinaigrette but it was a bit too sweet and sour for the lamb. The bone marrow was not as soft as I am used too and not savory enough, they do give you bread to smear the marrow though. The turnips were my favorite part, perfectly seasoned so that you could taste the earthy turnip flavor on top of everything else. This place is a bit pricey but has great vibes. read more

Great service. Food is a little bland for my liking. I had the salad nicoise and it had great presentation. Tried the shrimp and grits as well. Was really lacking any deep flavors and bordering on bland. My salad dressing was not noticeable. My drink was decent but again, no deep flavors. We sat outside, upstairs on the rooftop deck. I'm sensitive to smells and it's cute up there with all the plants but I kept getting whiff of sewage or sour porter potty. Service was great, however. read more

Wow! Initially we had reservations to a place down the road but it was hot and a little crowded so we left and walked around the corner and decided to give this place a shot. Initially there was some confusion with seating because when we went upstairs to our table it wasn't ready. But no worries the staff quickly got us a solution and we were seated within a couple mins. Risotto 5/5 -Very tasty! Creamy while still being vegan. Served with what looked like a water lily but I believe it was a water crest. Quite a big serving for our group of three. Chicken 5/5 - Sooo tender! I think it was steamed or something but probably one of the best tasting chicken I've ever had. Served with amazing sauce and olives. Oh my gahhhh it was soo good! Bone marrow 5/5 - Two pieces of bone with marrow served with bread and a sweet jam or chutney. Some places do it bad but this place did it very well. Yumm We also had the spicy margarita - too much pepper topping for my liking and a bottle of champs to celebrate since we were visiting a friend. Terra Plata makes a good first impression with its well-considered space and lovely top floor open dining area, and that feeling continues with the delightful presentation of their food. Sadly the service and the taste don't follow suit. This restaurant has been in the area for a long time yet I'd never been to it. That was probably the first clear signal that the experience was going to be uneven but I was just curious to try it out. It's in such a central location to other fun things to do (Starbucks Reserve, Melrose Market, clothes boutiques, etc.) that we ended up just making an afternoon of it. When you walk in the space is well-lit, bright, and lively. After checking in we went upstairs and the vibe was even better. It was a rare sunny spring day in Seattle so it was like we were suddenly transported away from Rain City USA to something a bit more breezy - I mean it's not rooftop bar in Lisbon or something but it was pretty cool regardless. Food sounded very good, looked even better but the tastes were really underwhelming. We tried the green chile pork which had a decently tangy pozole soup base but the pork was really dry and not flavorful. We also had the cheeseburger which was really lacking in flavor and over-charred. There was also some andouille sausage which was O.K. but not super exciting. My friends and I celebrated my birthday at Terra Plata and were amazed at not only the quality of food, but also the service. Since we had a larger group we got to experience the Chef curated menu and were not disappointed. The food was served family style and in courses. The menu featured a wide range of seasonal favorites from their local farms and vendors. This is easily one of the best meals we've ever eaten. I cannot recommend this place enough! Great deserts and the food and cocktails are okay. I have no plans to ever go back. The restaurant clearly has a high opinion of itself because the food is overpriced. The menu says the plates are shared but unless you come with models on an extreme diet you will be left hungry by most dishes. You really can only share the potato chips and the fries. The beet salad had like 5 tiny beets. The $29 pasta dish is gone in 5 bites and the beef was like 4 muscle strands. Was it good yes. Was it worth more than $20, NO. I had the soup, which was great. But how do you share a soup with a table other than passing it around. When I asked the runner for small bowls, he angrily replied "he was only told to deliver the soup" then walked off. Was the place busy? Yes. Was the staff dealing with customers? No. Most of the staff spent the night hanging around the kitchen/bar so they could talk to each other. Spent a quarter of the evening hoping someone came by to order another drink then deciding to just stay with water. The restaurant to very loud. This is on my list of places to return! The menu changes frequently, so don't count too much on scoping it out ahead of time. The item I think of most fondly is their Old Fashioned - it was most delicious with a sweet vanilla flavor. Salad was very tasty, nice dressing and quality ingredients. Alaskan salmon was cooked just right and I enjoyed the pureed cauliflower with its heavy lemon flavor. Plum sorbet was just the right portion size and not quite as flavorful as I had hoped. Everything I ordered came out quickly, and my server was friendly but it seemed like it was at the end of a long tiring shift. read more

Cool place to have brunch at. Friendly staff, we went on a Sunday around 10:30AM and it wasn't busy. The Pork Belly Toast was alright, the poached egg was really watery but tasted fine. The hollandaise was more white than the yellow hollandaise I'm used to so it didn't taste as strong, it was fine. The potatoes were nicely seasoned too. My friend got the Blackberry French toast and enjoyed it, it was really tart and sweet. Nice casual vibe for a relaxed brunch. read more

We came to Terra Plata with a reservation for the rooftop patio (covered) for my partner's birthday. The vibes are sublime. They even had the menu with the date and "Happy Birthday" stamped. Those small subtle things really enhance an experience. However, I only enjoyed about half of our meal. Terra Plata is "New American" cuisine. Think American food... but NEW (whatever that means). Basically add some fancy ingredients and some terms you have to look up and charge 100% more for the dish. My favorite dish was actually the sea wolf baguette with olive oil & vinegar, which I think says a lot (will leave to your interpretation) I also had a lemonade with vanilla flavoring (yes this was an option). I'm a huge fan of lemonade but unfortunately it did not slap. It was subpar compared to both mall AND fresh lemonade. The risotto was decent! But the worst part was the roast pig dish. The meat was... very dry. I'd be more forgiving if it was a subpar restaurant with super dry meat, but for a (~$35 iirc) dish at a 'fine dining' establishment, it was very disappointing. Terra Plata is a cool Spanish-inspired restaurant in Capitol Hill with farm-to-table food. The rooftop garden is a perfect spot for enjoying some drinks and people watching in the sun (there is shade available there if you want it). We just got some drinks and small plates - the charcuterie board was memorable, with the duck rillettes being a highlight. Service was good, if not remarkable. The only thing I think could be better are the prices - everything was good, but prices are a little high considering the portions. read more

This is a review mainly for the "Paella" served on Mondays I believe. The Paella turned out to be more like a risotto, with the rice being very sticky and watered down and as a result, zero crispy crust. There was also a TON of rice, when it should be a relatively thin layer of rice made crispy in a giant flat bottom pan. The rice also lacked flavor, even though the seafood pieces on top were great, the rice felt like it was cooked separately from the seafood, and didn't have any of the umami flavor you would expect. I have been meaning to try this place for the longest time. Honestly, it was underwhelming. It took a reasonable amount of time to get checked in. A party ahead of us had reservations and they were waiting for the hostess to check them in as well. The restaurant was not busy considering it was a Thursday night. Once we got seated on the terrace, it took a while for our server to come and take our drink orders. Once we mentioned that we were only there to get drinks, the server grabbed the plates and utensils which felt a little aggressive. The drink presentations were nice. Overall the service was not what I expected but the setting was nice. I would give the restaurant another shot, possibly for brunch or dinner next time. read more

They definitely recommend sharing plates and we started with the blistered shishito peppers and followed that with the roasted garlic scapes and pan roasted morel mushrooms. Terra Plata has a very nice rooftop that is perfect for dining during warm weather. The interior on the main level also has windows at the top of the walls that they can open for added airflow. The dinner menu includes a good variety of delicious, fresh, and creative options. Octopus toast, Asian pear salad with truffle vinaigrette, veggies with pasta, and duck breast with berry demi-glace - yes please! Each dish we ordered was presented beautifully with splashes of color. The sauces complemented the food so well. Add a cocktail or glass of wine and I'm a happy camper. Our server was a bit odd; we couldn't figure out if she was high or what. She was knowledgeable and friendly, just acting weird and making strange comments. Finally made it to Terra Plata for Paella Night! It was my first time coming here and it did not disappoint. Since it was a Monday, it was Paella night so the menu was a bit altered. We made reservations for the upstairs patio seating. The patio was very nice, enclosed with heaters so it wasn't chilly at all. The host also said they could provide blankets for us if it's too cold. It was a group of four of us so we ordered shishito peppers, patatas gravas, beet salad, and paella mixto. It was the perfect amount of food to share! The paella was delicious! Not too burnt or watered down rice, just crisp on the top. There was a decent amount of seafood and meat in the paella so I felt we were getting our money's worth. The service was very nice as well! One of the servers was in training and doing such an amazing job! It's a bit pricey but I would come back for paella and to try their typical menu! Great spot with a wonderful rooftop. I highly recommend a reservation for the roof if it's going to be nice outside during your visit. We went for Mother's Day and they had a special brunch menu that wasn't online. It limited the options for some of the group with dietary restrictions but it worked out fine and everyone was happy with their food. They also noted any allergies and took special care to ensure nobody ate anything they couldn't which was great. The food was really good. The patatas bravas were great and the sauce very authentic to what I've had in Spain. We even saved the sauce to have on our eggs when our main dishes came. This little gem is in the triangular spot by Starbucks reserve and Taylor's shellfish and Mel rose market. Street parking but cap hill so remember to pay for parking until 10pm. We ordered roasted tomatoes as a starter, lamb riblets, and roastpig. The tomatoes were in seasoned and they were so juicy. The roastpig was tender and the broth was as very flavorful. My friend and I had no shame and drank all the broth! The lamb riblets was good but it's quite disappointing that it didn't come until we finished our tomatoes and roastpig. By that time, we were very full already. I also didn't like how close each table is in the rooftop area. Each table is like 2" apart. Fantastic spot! Friend and I went for a late night dinner. Cute atmosphere that lends well to larger groups and more intimate settings. We opted to share plates - not sure if exactly designed in that way - but the potato chips were tasty with the truffle flavoring. The crudo was tasty, despite the coloring of the tuna. It made me slightly nervous but my friend thought it was delicious! We then did the baby gem salad that was light and refreshing! The star of the meal was definitely the lamb rib-lets with the lebnah (?). It was so flavorful that I was literally sucking the bones. We ended the meal with churros - hot out of the fryer! The food was flavorful and filling. What I appreciated was that it was a wonderful meal, but didn't feel overstuffed. This is my second time here. The first was on paella night and that was fine. Today we sat on the roof and ate from their regular menu- it was sooo yummy! We had the spring risotto and duck with a grapefruit soda and a cocktail. We ate every little bit of everything. The service was top notch! We sat at the tip with a private fire by their herb garden. Came here with coworkers during a work conference recently. They said it's best ordered family style so we got the beets, the brussel sprouts, the game hen and the olives. I am not a huge beets person but I gave them a try. They were golden beets and had a nice flavor. Others at the table who like beets said they were some of the best. I'm also not a huge Brussels sprout person but these were delicious and I really enjoyed them. The game hen was perfect to share and nothing beets warm olives! I noticed this restaurant many times in passing because of it's pretty look. I finally came here the other day for my friend's birthday. It was a hot day and we were bummed to discover that they do not have AC or fans and it was quite warm inside. They say their food is best enjoyed when eaten family style. I shared the Cheese Plate, the Burrata and the Cauliflower with two friends. The food looked fantastic and tasted great. It is however quite pricey and the portions are rather small. Stepping into Terra Plata transports you from the craziness of First Hill to a tranquil place where the friendliest staff will serve you beautifully crafted small plates with a smile.
