My mini trip to Seattle happened to be at the same time as Seattle Restaurant Week. After scrolling through the website, Palace Kitchen caught my eye as it has a medieval feel to it, from the decor to the names of food/drinks. It was about $50 for the SRW menu, but 2 of the 3 dishes I got are on the normal dinner menu too. I started with the mezcal cocktail, which I've unfortunately forgotten the name of. It was good! Very spirit-forward. My first course was the Forager's Spring Pottage soup, which is a rooster broth with black truffle dumplings and leeks. The delicious truffle helped balance the saltiness of the broth and mild flavor of the leeks. My second course was the Roasted Bristol Bay Salmon. I absolutely loved this salmon dish. The skin on the salmon was super crispy and went really well with the soft artichoke hearts, potatoes, and charred asparagus. For dessert, I got the date cake which came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Honestly, I could've done without the date cake. It was too sweet and mushy for me. I ended up just eating the crunchy parts with the ice cream. Overall, there's so much more I want to try off Palace Kitchen's menu. I'll be back one day. read more

Really lovely restaurant in Belltown! The decor gives off a rustic & medieval vibe which I loved. Would 100% recommend the goat cheese & lavender fondue as an appetizer. Wow! So unique and all the ingredients paired beautifully with the herbaceous cheese. Another star of the show was the rotisserie chicken. The portion was humongous and the meat was juicy and tender and flavorful. My partner got the cod which was good, but not as outstanding as the chicken. I have been wanting to try Palace Kitchen for a long time and finally made it to dinner recently. We also timed it well, to be able to try their 30 year celebration 5 course tasting menu. We got Daydreamer to go with our meal, and enjoyed it. We loved the interiors and the service was friendly. We got to chat with Tom Douglas too, that added to the experience. The first course was Goat Cheese Grilled Toast, it was a great start to our meal. 2nd course was Fire Wilted Escarole, loved the salad. I would eat more salad if they all tasted so good. 3rd course was Renewal Manila Clam, loved it and the mushroom in it. 4th course was Applewood Grilled Lamb Chop, we both loved it. We are not so fond of lamb, this lamb chop was excellent and the gratin that came with it. The final course was Cranberry Basque Cake, we loved it. It was one of the best desserts I have had in a long time. It was an amazing end to our meal. We will be back to try their regular menu soon. read more

A friend has been raving about this place as a perfect spot for a first date, and, since we were in the area during haooy hour, we popped in. Yeah, I support her assessment. The signature HH cocktails are a nice variety and served in a generous chalice - AND they are served with complementary fries! For $10, this is a steal. I ordered the PK spritz, asking the bartender to go light on the elderflower syrup. The herbaceous notes from the Aperol blends well with your standard Hugo. Very drinkable. My friend ordered the Spanish G&T. Beautifully presented, light and refreshing. If I liked tonic water, I'd go for this one. Fries were a good portion served with two dips. Not piping hot, but who's going to complain about free fries? Also complementary were the (generous) portion of pistachios. If you know, you know. To round out the snacks, we ordered a half dozen oysters. Great presentation, and the server explained the type and origin nicely. Can't go wrong at $2 a pop! The atmosphere is just beautiful, with plenty of seating options. I always enjoy an open kitchen. The bartender was attentive, but since he was the only one behind the bar and it was somewhat busy in the restaurant, there wasn't much banter. Food and drinks are competitively priced with a few unusual dishes. I'll have to come back to test more of them out. read more

Met someone on the plane who recommended this place. Came here at 5:55pm on a weekday evening and it was busy but I got a spot at the bar. It ended up being happy hour so I got 6 of the oysters (sammish pearls), the beef sliders (2) and a glass of white wine. I also got the clams off the appetizers. Everything was really good! I was pleasantly surprised. Oysters-5/5 Same oysters I had at Half Shell and I loved them at both places. Great price of $2 each Sliders-4/5 One was a bit undercooked but they were very good. It's listed on the menu in a slightly confusing way so I didn't realize it's $5 each but comes with two. Liked the cheese, onion and pickles! Clams- 5/5 They're smaller than Manila clams but they were tasty. Liked the chorizo (?) with it as well Wine-3/5 It didn't specify what type but I'm guessing a Chardonnay. Not bad but not great. Palace Kitchen is one of the remaining Tom Douglas restaurants in downtown Seattle. They are famous for their open kitchen and applewood wood oven. I booked family dinner for seven and thought between their beef, seafood items and chicken there would be something for everyone. Overall the quality of our dishes were a bit mixed, so 3 stars. Note the restaurant is dark and plays loud music, and you'll get a whiff of aromas from the open kitchen. Great for happy hour or outings with friends, but less so if you want a quieter, intimate dining experience Positives 1. The Kabocha Fritters were excellent - similar to a crispy falafel but with a slightly sweet texture underneath. My 5yo son wound up eating most of it. 2. Rosemary Focaccia is also great for sharing. It comes out in a mini pan, piping hot and with a side of sweet date butter. 3. I actually liked my Rotisserie Half Chicken. The meat was juicy but my son and I prefer a crispier skin. Its on the larger side so you'll get more white meat but sacrifice on flavor compared to a smaller bird and/or a brick-grilled preparation. Mixed or Needs Improvement: 1. Grilled chicken wings were closer to burnt, and the meat underneath does have a spicy aftertaste, so beware. 2. Whole Rainbow Trout is one of their signature dishes and my wife, a fish lover, found the skin well seasoned but not so much the meat underneath. 3. Four in our group ordered the burgers. My parents each asked for medium rare and they enjoyed their dish. My sister and bro-in-law asked for well done and felt the burger was burnt and dry. Some folks ask for well done since they dislike pink meat and want a strong beefy flavor while sacrificing some juiciness. Still, there's a fine line between burnt and well-done and I applaud chefs who could pull those off. read more

This place was another one recommended to me by one of the regulars at Rider, so of course I had to see what the hype was about! We came here right after checking out Rob Roy, also located in Belltown. The space has that cozy, old-school Seattle charm, dimly lit with an intimate vibe that's perfect for late night conversations. The open kitchen concept is really cool, and the moment you walk in, you're greeted by the irresistible aroma of grilled dishes coming off the wood-fire. It was pretty packed when we arrived, so we just grabbed a drink at the bar to get a feel for the place. Service was okay considering how busy it was, the staff still managed to stay attentive and friendly. I heard Palace Kitchen is one of the few spots in the city that serves late-night eats, which is always a plus if you're looking for quality food after hours. Two of us shared a few appetizers and ordered a drink and entree each, overall taste good and generous portions: * goat cheese and lavender fondue was fun but not exactly classic Swiss cheese fondue, in case you are a purist * pumpkin fritters was delicious with cranberry jam and duck liver mouse... I didn't get as much pumpkin but it's for the better * blistered shishito peppers was nicely charred * grilled trout was massive and expertly deboned at table side. Came here for date night and so glad we did! We ordered lots of items to share including the hood canal clams, Caesar salad and the French onion soup. All were must orders but the clams were definitely amazing!!! We also went during happy hour Monday- Sat 5-6 pm and ordered 2 petite burgers. They were small but packed with flavor. It was a last-minute dinner plan, and we found this spot near our friend's office. We ordered the Goat Cheese Lavender Fondue, Chicken Wings, and the Palace Burger Royale. Everything tastes amazing! I highly recommend trying their Goat Cheese Fondue and Chicken Wings. The fondue came with apples, cauliflower, and grilled focaccia., very flavorful and delicious. I ordered this palace chalice sangria for $10 which came with a free order of fries. We also got a dozen $2 oysters and several $5 sliders. My favorite of the sliders was the Beecher's Cheese slider. Both the ambience and food were up to par! I was there with a party of 3 and it seems like it's a place the locals favor. Definitely make reservations as it seemed to fill up pretty quickly during the weekend. I've had a ton of various versions of Brussel Sprouts and I can say that their version is definitely one of my favorites. Even though it is on the sweeter side, the additional ingredients of bacon, nuts and other savory components help balance out the sweetness. All I have to say is get the ravioli! Yum! Possibly the mostly friendly hostess and wait-staff I've ever experienced. Although they were fully booked I got on the wait list and the hostess was incredibly kind and engaging. The wait was shorter than expected. I was told to order the Palace Burger, which I did, with bacon. It was very good, perhaps a little too salty. This place is great. We are in town to go on a cruise, and stumbled on the Palace. Our server Joanna (Jo) was so friendly. We just got married and had "Just Married" shirts. She treated us to a glass of Prosecco. We had the halibut and it was so delicious, perfectly cooked. The manager treated us to dessert on the restaurant...the Coconut cream pie was to die for. God bless Tom Douglas and Palace Kitchen. I went to Seattle last month with my husband, our sons, my parents, my brothers, my sisters-in-law, and my niece, and it was my job to make family-friendly dinner plans for this party of eleven. I was thrilled when I searched OpenTable and Palace Kitchen came up with ready availability. No need to email for a large party reservation--just one click and we were all set to go. There weren't a lot of restaurants that made things that easy. Certainly not iconic destinations within walking distance of our hotel in Denny Triangle. I'd been to a few Tom Douglas joints before, but never Palace Kitchen, his third restaurant, open since 1996. I wondered if it might be past its prime, but figured it was a classic spot worth visiting on vacation. My only hesitation was that there was no kid's menu listed on the website. As it turned out, Palace Kitchen was perfect for us in every way. The space was attractive, with a lot of character. We drank bottles of white wine and enjoyed the convivial atmosphere on a sunny summer Saturday night. We had a huge table right by a bank of windows, and to our five-year-old's absolute delight, we had a prime view of the monorail. Service was excellent, friendly and skillful, and there was in fact a comprehensive kid's menu. My boys shared a remarkably handsome grilled cheese with fries, though my two-year-old's actual meal was a full adult portion of the house ravioli. The food was outstanding. We shared several starters and every one of them was a winner. Rosemary focaccia with Castelvetrano olive butter and Maldon sea salt. Di Stefano burrata cheese with roasted black mission figs, baby arugula, pistachio, and crostini. A unique Caesar salad made with romaine hearts, Ferndale Farms parmesan, and a gigantic garlic crouton. I loved the bright, fresh hamachi crudo, which came with strawberry ponzu, cucumber, serrano chili, and shiso. The "plin" were a table favorite, a Piedmontese-style ravioli made with milk-braised pork, chard, and Alpine Swiss cheese. We had to get two large plates of it to feed my son and everyone else. The green onion crepe was technically an entrée, but it made a fantastic shared appetizer, with mint ricotta, grilled maitake mushroom, sunflower seeds, and English peas and pea purée. Green and vibrant with a lot of great textures, possibly my favorite dish of the night. My husband and I shared the burger and the rainbow trout for our main course, and this was a large amount of food. Thankfully, it was also very good. The Palace burger royale was a juicy burger with an 8 oz. house-ground Royal Ranch chuck patty with Beecher's cheddar on a potato bun. It came with dark golden russet fries and all the fixings on the side: lettuce, red onion, yellow tomato, ketchup, and mayonnaise. The Magic Valley bone-in rainbow trout came from the restaurant's apple wood grill, with roasted garlic mashed potatoes, green beans, grilled lemon, and Castelvetrano olive oil. Our server filleted it for us at the table, and it was simply delicious. We ordered a few desserts for the table, and these were all hits, too. The molten chocolate cake was warm and decadent, served with bing cherries, hazelnuts, and vanilla ice cream. The others were lighter--a classic affogato with vanilla ice cream in espresso, with a side of biscotti; and Olympic Mountain strawberry rhubarb sorbet. That sorbet was superb, and started my two-year-old on a "pink ice cream" kick that's still going strong three weeks later. Palace Kitchen met and surpassed my expectations, and I'd happily go back, even though I rarely get to visit Seattle. Years ago, I was taken to the Dahlia Lounge for an anniversary dinner. I was thrilled to finally get eat in a Tom Douglas restaurant. Unfortunately, we walked away disappointed with food that was mediocre and overpriced. Fast forward 16 years to the Palace Kitchen. Once again, I was totally disappointed with the food that was so overpriced for what I got. Six mushrooms, three little pierogies in a sauce with two dollops of sour cream. All for a whopping total of $32. I could've bought several bags of pierogies at an Asian store for that price. Plus the pierogies were way too al dente making them very chewy. Obviously being a well-known chef means absolutely nothing. Your food can still be lousy. read more

I came here with a Missouri food skeptic. He was new to Nw cuisine and doubted if he would enjoy it. Greeted warmly and seated promptly. Nice ambiance to restaurant, seems classy and welcoming. We started out with the Whidbey island clams. I thought this would be a great introduction to the seafood of the northwest. Delicious tender clams in a garlic butter and Chardonnay broth. Really good and it came with a grilled bread to savor the broth. Encourage people to order this, it is memorable. Next, we both ordered the magic valley bone in rainbow trout. This came with grilled lemon, castelvetrano olive oil. I have fond memories of fishing and grilling rainbow trout. This was perfectly cooked and tender. The skin was crispy, a preference of mine. It came with garlic flavored mashed potatoes and green beans. the ashes potatoes added a texture contrast. The green beans were flavorful and a healthy addition. What a gem of a find in downtown Seattle! Traveling from Denver and arriving late night, this was one of the only restaurants open in Downtown at 11pm, what was awesome! The food was TO-DIE-FOR and the drinks were delicious! Warm vibes and the wood fired food makes for a cozy ambiance. The steak was way too salty. Both of us thought the same thing from the first bite. I managed to dilute mine with the potato mash. Husband left a lot of his steak behind. A shame as minus the heavy salt it would have been a lovely sauce. The figs melted in your mouth. One other thing, the driving bass beat in the background music made it feel more like a dance club than a high end restaurant. I was visiting Seattle and stumbled upon Palace Kitchen. This was a unique restaurant/bar that had a mellow ambiance. The bartenders were very friendly and had great banter which was very welcoming. The food was also good. I got the palace burger royale which was very well prepared, which had a very tasty aioli. The fries were a bit salty but that was okay as the burger made up for it. The Aslan light lager was also great so I would recommend if looking for an easy to drink beer. They are also open pretty late which is great for a night cap! read more

Worst place ever. Don't ever go. Service was abysmal and staff was ungrateful. I always come here and have had a great time however the most recent time was horrific. Server MADDIE O needs to be fired. I took a group of friends here for what I thought would be a great late night experience and MADDIE made it horrible. After leaving I went back to request a 100% refund of my entire bill due to MADDIE's horrible service. The manger on duty said she was sorry and that MADDIE had a sick kid at home. I have had a few times where I took the bus into Seattle for some event and had some time where I had to wait for a bus downtown outside which was OK for a short time but preferred not to do so and I was a little bit hungry so I was happy to see the Palace Kitchen was the only non-fast food restaurant still open so I could relax indoor and have something while I was waited for my bus. I had clams. I tried to find the description on the menu on the website but could not. The clams, bread and broth was very good. The waiter/bartender Robert B. was attentive and made sure I got my food quickly and got me my tab at first so I did not miss my bus which was the last one of the night. read more

The drinks and appetizers were my favorite part of our meal. The tiny fondue and they oysters were both excellent. We actually got a third cocktail to split because we each liked our cocktails. My partner liked his steak but I was just ok with my entree - the dumplings were good but the veggies and sauce around it were not my jam. The apps have a lot of vegetarian options but the entrees only have one veggie selection. Our server was very helpful in giving honest thoughts on menu items and delightfully funny. The ambiance was lovely and we got to sit by the rooster and the window so I think we had the best seats in the house! All the food here was really amazing! We had the trout entree, clams, oysters on the half shell and a couple of the Kings and Queens margaritas. Everything was super fresh-- the trout was cooked perfectly and they even fillet it for you at the table. Was in the mood for seafood and this definitely hit the mark.. The molten chocolate cake for dessert was a nice finishing touch. Also appreciate the fact that they were open late with the full menu till midnight . We just arrived into town on a late train ride and thought it was great that we could have this quality of food at 11:30 at night. read more

They all capture a dedicated service commitment to Tom Douglas's exceptional brand that we love! The cocktails were very solid. The marg and manhattans were well made. I had the chicken with greens on mashed potatoes. I hadn't been to Palace Kitchen in many years, and my best friend took me and some family there for my birthday a couple days ago. I have to say, I think it's just gotten even better! The food and service were both really outstanding (we ordered a bunch of appetizers as well as 6 different entrees, all fantastic)! My bestie ordered the trout but was hesitant since it's "bone-in". He knew he'd make a mess of that. But our server, Jules, said not to worry, that she'll do it at the table. It was so fun to watch her!
