There was a 30-minute or so wait, so we got coffee from the Starbucks inside the resort and found two chairs outside with a view while we waited. We were then called to come to our table, and we sat outside for the view (beginning of October). I got the lemon mascarpone stuffed blueberry compote French toast (delicious- no need for the syrup!) and she got the skillet (also very good, but would've been better if it came served on a hot skillets not a plate- still very tasty!). The service was excellent and we were tended to frequently. We would DEFINITELY come again- we very much so enjoyed ourselves!

I could not taste anything in this dish other than simply butter and noodles which is disappointing because the restaurant has potential and ambience was nice. If it wasn't for great service and a very nice Cabernet Sauvignon (Honest Thief at $11 a glass but I ended up buying a bottle to go) this restaurant would have 2 stars. Wintergreen needs to step it up on the resort. Their local bar/restaurant "The Edge" should not have better food than the fine dining restaurant.

We were tucked in down near Devils Backbone Brewing Company, enjoying the kind of getaway folks put on postcards. My coffee, however, was less postcard and more field exercise--Army strong, boiled on a camp stove, poured out of a percolator that's likely seen more campaigns than I have. My wife took one sip and gave me that look... the one that says, "I love you, but this is unacceptable." So we broke camp early and pointed ourselves back toward civilization. About three miles down the road she spotted Belties. Now I've driven past that place more times than I can count, back when it looked like an old house that had just given up on things. But somebody got hold of it and turned that sow's ear into something you'd be proud to show company. We pulled in, and right off the bat--you could tell--they knew what they were doing. Service was quick, friendly, no fuss. The kind of place where nobody's trying too hard, which is usually when things turn out just right. The food? Lord have mercy. Every bit of it. And the atmosphere--well, it had character without trying to beat you over the head with it. That's a rare combination these days. Most places either feel like a museum or a storage unit. This one felt like the establishment wanted you to relax. And the coffee... now that was coffee. Not punishment in a cup. The kind you sit with for a minute and reconsider your life choices--like why you ever thought campfire tar water was a good idea. We'll be back. For the coffee, sure--but I've got a feeling we won't be leaving empty-handed next time. There'll be a goody bag involved. Maybe two. Some lessons you learn the hard way. Others come with a good cup of coffee and a smart woman who knows when to say, "Pull in right there

My husband and I visited Devils Grill on our three day weekend Covid getaway to Wintergreen Resort…read more We ended up dining her for both Friday night and Saturday night dinner both at 815 pm. And then returned for a delicious brunch on Sunday morning before heading home. The wine selection was not what my husband or I would like to drink with a nice dinner, but when we asked our waiter if there was a more extensive list she was able to check the back and came out with a delicious wine (Caymus) that we both love and were so glad they had on hand. The pricing for the bottle was also excellent, not an extravagant up charge. Julia was our waitress both evenings and she was absolutely fabulous, excellent taste in meal choices and so attentive. With covid having made some of the dining options at Wintergreen close it was so nice to have this location available for a nicer meal. Our first night we enjoyed the chefs special broccoli/cheese soup, Pear & Goat Salad, chefs special of Duck, and the Classic New York Style Cheesecake. All were FABULOUS. The second evening we enjoyed the Soup De Jour, Pear & Goat Salad, baby gem Caesar, Sea scallops, and the Creme Brûlée. All our food was absolutely delicious and cooked exactly to what we ordered. 10/10 would recommend this place and we will most definitely return on our next trip to wintergreen.

Devil's Backbone, like a good story, doesn't try too hard--and that's exactly why it works…read more We wandered in for an early dinner, the kind of stop you tell yourself will be quick and sensible. But the beer had other ideas. As expected, it was excellent--cold, confident, and clearly in no mood to be rushed. Everything was clean and orderly. The burger arrived and did not disappoint. Honest, well-made, the sort of meal that reminds you why you ordered it in the first place. My wife's brisket sandwich, meanwhile, was everything brisket ought to be--tender, rich, and just indulgent enough to feel like a reward rather than a mistake. Fries came alongside, hot and crisp, doing their job without complaint or ceremony. And then, on the way out--as these things tend to happen--we stopped at the bar. That's where we met Vance. What followed was less a quick cocktail and more a conversation with drinks attached. The cocktails were excellent, but the company made them memorable. Vance makes a great adult beverage. All in all, Devil's Backbone isn't just a place to eat and drink. It's a place where a simple plan quietly turns into a better evening than you expected.

The dining menu has burgers, fries and vegetarian items. We enjoyed hot chocolate. Our friends had sandwiches and fries. I enjoyed the vegan chili. It was delicious. Spiral noodles didn't work in the Mac and cheese. The place wasn't crowded. I bet that the grounds would be crowded with guests during the summer.

I thought it was good, but not amazing. For my main, I got the cast iron with seared tuna and shrimp and for my two sides, I got mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts. It was quite good. The portion was solid, but the blackening seasoning on the tuna was a little too salty and the shrimp wasn't too flavorful but the red chimichurri sauce helped cut the saltiness and add flavor at the same time. For dessert, my husband and I shared the cookie skillet. It was a little sweeter than I would like but still ate it all, but not sure I'd get it again.

Our waitress was great, very fast, attentive, and friendly. Unfortunately, that's about all I can say. I got a fried oyster appetizer. These were good, if a little greasy. For my main, I went with a NY Strip steak with a side of mushrooms and vegetable kabob. I had asked for the steak to be rare. It was more on the side of medium well, and pushing well. I can handle that, but it was also surprisingly bland. I had to add salt and pepper just to eat it. How do you strip a steak of flavour? The mushrooms were salty, and mostly breading over cheap buttons. Chewy and bleh. The vegetable kabob was singular. Literally two mushrooms, a bit of bell pepper, and an onion, maybe six pieces. But, hey, I got my vegetable for the day, right? Also, honestly, it was not an inexpensive dinner. Even ignoring pricing, it wasn't good. Ambiance and service? Great. Food? No, thank you.
