Ambiance was gorgeous, surrounded with pretty greeneries and natural lighting. Food was delicious especially the complimentary bread and butter. Presentation of said bread was also A+. Really calming and cleverly decorated. Our server was fantastic! She was attentive, pleasant and had a great sense of humor. The food was good, though I had to send back my eggs which were ordered over medium but were running all over the plate. I wasn't a fan of the popover or the sourdough bread but the eggs were fresh, sausage and bacon were delicious and the roasted potatoes were perfect. Traveling back from Massachusetts we decided to stop for something to eat. This was completely random but sooo worth it. The Terrain is also a shop for the most adorable items and plants/flowers/home items. The cafe is nestled in the shop and the aesthetic compliments the experience. Dessert and drink menu change seasonally... This afternoon I tried one of the holiday brunch items -- toasted marshmallow mocha -- and shared French toast. I was concerned that both would be cloying, but they were just right, allowing opportunity to taste the other ingredients. With each sip I enjoyed the scent of toasted marshmallow that was perched across the coffee cup. A heavenly mix. As always during the holidays, Terrain shop (and cafe) was decorated festively. Ceiling fixtures were festooned with lights and botanicals, inspiring new ideas for home holiday decorating... or just to ogle in admiration of the exhibition of creativity! The signature gratis warm bread baked in a small clay flowerpot was served with whipped butter infused with cranberry sauce, I suppose as a nod to a holiday staple. (It missed Yelp photo op as we were too hungry and it is so good.) Worth a visit anytime near Westport. However, I agree with Joseph P. -- this cafe appears to have been designed with female customers in mind. What a wonderful concept! An indoor and outdoor nursery with a restaurant in the middle. I frequent this place quite a bit as the vibe here is special. The restaurant has two settings, one within an enclosed area with plenty of lighting and glass walls yet you still feel connected with the nursery. The other is like a bar with seatings around it, less private but a whole different vibe as you enjoy the overhanging plants and feel more connected to nature. But wait there is more! Beyond the restaurant there is a whole world of plants, pots, soaps, waterfalls, decorative ornaments and even design consultants to help you with your green obsession. The food itself is fresh, service is pretty quick and presentation is always appealing. I have to make a shout out to the staff. They hire and train to really make one feel at home and comfortable. Like a dream, with sparkling lights, flowers, candles, baskets, plants and fountains etc all displayed so magically and nostalgically even I found it easy to get swept away! As for the cafe, expect brunch with an emphasis on girlfood. Notice the lunching girlfriends and garden ladies. Sit inside or out, it's all lovely and the food isn't bad. Guys: don't worry, there's a burger on the menu. If you don't want that, you're pretty much out of luck unless you're into quiche or poached salmon. what a great find! we were looking for a brunch spot before heading to New Haven and found Terrain Cafe - the food, coffee and plants definitely caught my attention and so we made reservations. we were so amazed as soon as we arrived with the greenery and all the garden stuff they offer. All the plants looked so healthy and the pottery they had for sale looked wonderful. Before we forget we were supposed to eat we then headed to the cafe and made our orders. we had the grilled cheese sandwich, terrain breakfast and Harvest bowl. All were freshly made and delicious! they make great lattes too and have delicious juices. This was really a cool and fun spot and we enjoyed our brunch as well as exploring the facility even after we dined. Glad we stumbled upon this cafe. Highly recommend! read more

I've been to Terrain a few times and always meant to stop by at the Cafe but got extremely distracted by all the amazing plants that I just never got to make it here. Had my mom visiting from out of town in a very rainy summery day and decided to head out here for a plant and coffee date at the Terrain Cafe. As soon as I walked in, we knew we wanted more than coffee! The views and vibes were just way too good to just sit at the coffee tables so we sat down by a gorgeous window, watched the rain fall, the black cloudy sky, the dimmed lights. Everything was perfect! We wanted something warm and cozy so we ordered this DELICIOUS coffee drink with coconut milk and mocha syrup that I can't remember the name for my life and I hope THEY remember next time we go! Because we came at an awkward time of the day, we wanted just something to snack on and not fill us up so we didn't have to miss dinner. We decided to split a grilled cheese on this cozy rainy day and it was the PERFECT perfect thing to order. Also, probably the BEST grilled cheese of all time. Sourdough bread with pieces of fried fig, delicious cheese with this funky flavor mixed with the thinly sliced apple pieces. ****kisses hand and points it up***** OH can we talk about that freshly baked in a terracotta pot bread with their whipped salted butter? OMG. Speechless. This was by far such an amazing dining experience at a cafe that gives all the plant vibes you NEED with amazing food and wonderful staff. Side note: ORDER THE TRUFFLE FRIES. We had a fabulous brunch experience here! This is one of the prettiest cafe/restaurant/shop locations I've been to recently. I truly loved the plant theme everywhere throughout this venue, including our fluffy bread that was served in a flower pot. The coffees tasted great, and I really enjoyed the Bee Sting Latte, which was not too sweet as our waitress confirmed. We ordered the caesar salad, omelette, fried avocado benedict, and whole wheat campanelle. All of the food tasted delicious, and we cleared all our plates in no time. Following our meal, we took a walk around the store that's attached to the restaurant. There was so much to browse, especially beautiful Christmas-themed decor and gifts and endless plants, of course. We happily ended up buying a small plant ourselves! Terrain Cafe is set adjacent to a beautiful plant shop with everything you could every imagine for your plants. There are full glass windows with beautiful soft lighting and music and plants everywhere that is super relaxing. At least one of the points I've given are just for ambiance. The service was quick, but unfortunately the food was what fell flat. I was excited to try it because it seemed like there were lots of locally grown plants and herbs in the drinks and food, but it just didn't stand out like I expected it to. The quinoa fritters were flavorful, but in a plain Greek yogurt sauce - it could have used some herbs or something mixed in, maybe dill. The arugula salad was good, but not the sharp arugula flavor that I have had with my own garden's fresh arugula, even though it was the right time of year for it. Everything was good, but just didn't hit my expectation. It seems like they get pretty busy so I'd consider a reservation in advance, but it wasn't too busy for us around 5 pm on a Thursday. read more

Reservations here are a must but easy enough to make them through open table or you can wait a bit to snag a spot. Service was excellent and our server was attentive. My friend and I came here for brunch one day. We both got cappuccinos and I chose a bloody Mary to drink while she got a blood orange Prosecco cocktail. The Bloody Mary was great and looks like they actually sell the mix in the store. Their coffee drink menu is extensive and I will definitely try a seasonal cappuccino next time. At the beginning of every meal the server brings out a the seasonal butter and bread in a flower pot (which you can also purchase as a kit in the retail section). The seasonal butter we had was lemon spice and it was delicious. I'm not a huge lemon fan but this was good! I got the burger for my meal and probably would not get it again. I think it's a great place to meet up with friends for a brunch for the ambiance. For me, the food was quite pricey and not super appealing. I am sure the quality of the ingredients are top notch and that's part of the pricing but I got the highly rated cauliflower burger and while it was good, I was feeling a bit hungry still after eating it. There was also an upcharge of $1 for switching from salad to fries. I do love that they offer kids items that are not just the typical chicken nuggets or pizza. I ordered for my two year old the baked chicken and it was a bit dry/tough for him but he loved the seasonal fruits (berries, apples) that came with the dish. In summary, I would go back if someone wants to meet there but definitely not a place I would go on a regular basis for good food. read more

A plant lover's dream. We had brunch reservations and all the food and drinks that came out were so beautiful. Our cute little bread came out in a terracotta pot along with our drinks. The food was fresh and tasty. The best part was after brunch wandering through the plant heaven that was both inside and outside. Some stuff was reasonably priced and other stuff, well, was Westport priced. Such incredibly beautiful displays all throughout! To start off with, the Terrain Garden center which this restaurant is part of is beautiful. I have never seen a place with more variety and high quality than this place. The cafe though, not so good. It's a nice setup and the menu is good. The food presentation is nice as well. To describe both the dish I got, and my wife got, bland, no seasoning at all. My order was shrimp and grits. The grits were soupy and needed salt, butter, pepper, something. They were tasteless. The shrimp were ok. Again, no seasoning but they were grilled well. My wife ordered fried avocado eggs benedict. She needed to add salt because these were bland and tasteless too. She only ate one egg and figured on bringing home the second one only because she didn't like it and didn't want to complain. The waiter offered to pack up the leftovers to go and took the plate but never returned with it. Since I know it would have been thrown out when we got home, he saved us a chore. Staff was friendly and service was good (except for the vanished leftovers). We will be back to the garden center but won't eat there again. read more

My server was bright, and friendly. I appreciate her willingness to get my questions answered. If you like gardens then this is the place to dine. The vibe is a little Westporty, but not over the top. I had the Artisenal cheese plate w prosciutto. It was OUTSTANDING ! Crackers were ok, fruit was good, the preserve was hidden and kind of hard to find until I ate my way there. I think the prosciutto was pre sliced, it was a little dry on the edges. The Corchions were delicious. The mustard and honey were perfect. The mechango was very good. The orange molette cheese was different and tasty, very interesting. The blue cheese and Brie were UNFORGETTABLE! Coming from a Person who eats a fair amount of cheese and I'm sampling local cheese often, these cheeses were fantastic I'll be calling the restaurant tomorrow to ask who the purveyor la are so I can buy them and support their business . read more

Terrain is one of my favorite places to visit when I'm traveling to New York. It's a very quick detour off Interstate 95. The cafe is magical, it has plants, a bit of rustic, lots of fun details in the design. It's comfortable as well. I've sat outside and inside. I recommend a reservation if you are planning to brunch there. Servers are attentive and friendly. Food came out quick! I thought the portions for the kids meals were a good size and they weren't astronomical. PB & J with a big side of fruit was $6. Considering this is a bougie brunch spot that's not bad! I LOVE the bread that comes out in the pot. We had it with basil butter but they switch that up. The bread is warm and fluffy and the butter had big flakes of sea salt This most recent time I ordered their standard breakfast and I liked that it came with eggs, bacon, sausage, a little salad, potatoes and a slice of sourdough. I was looking for something higher in protein and that seemed like the best option. Other times I've ordered some of the more unique menu items. I think if you are making a special trip to Terrain I'd order something special because it's a $$ brunch, however I was completely happy with what I got. My mocha latte was very good as well, I got it with almond milk and it was very creamy. The peaches in my daughter's side of fruit were a bit crunchy, but hey it happens. There was also a single gooseberry which she was willing to try so that was fun. My main reason I love eating here is because the store is amazing as well. You get a whole experience. Beautiful space. Greenery galore. I dined at the bar , my server was Lou and she was great. Literally all she wanted to do was make sure I was happy and satisfied. That is always a good thing! Drinks I ordered a glass of Malbec and mocktail. Of course I started with the flowerpot bread and lavender honey butter. I didn't care for the outer part of the bread , but the inner part yes! Starters I did the grilled lamb and entrees I had the scallops and pasta . The lamb was good just not my type of party as far as texture. The scallop pasta was great just a little dry , I added some extra sauce , bc I love extra sauce!! Lastly desserts were carrot cake fritters and sticky toffee pudding , both good! Very pretty place. The restaurant shares space with a plant nursery and gift shop, and it is nicely decorated in that theme. The Terrain Breakfast was just a solidly done breakfast platter. The Terrain burger was delicious, with onion jam and brioche bun complimenting each other wonderfully. The bread bun they bring to the table inside a pot is very cute, Good bread too! Surprisingly for me, I didn't mind the matcha butter but my wife didn't like it. It wasn't overly grassy as expected so I slathered it away contentedly.
