Sit down restaurants on this strip seem to be attended 60% by tourists and 40% by locals. My chillo was honestly quite dry and the aranitas were too hard to chew, but the sweet potato fries were the best I've ever had in my damn life. Never going back to the frozen orange store bought stuff that you find in continental US. My boyfriend's mahi mahi filet was the worst yet. Completely dry and inedible. It's truly a shame. read more

Best Mofongo we had in PR and we ate it at least 4 times at different restaurants (raices in old San Juan being the worst place). There was plenty of meat and sauce for every bite of the plantain mash. We had chicken with garlic sauce and skirt steak with another sauce that was delicious. The drinks were good too. I had grouper which was delicious with the garlic sauce. My husband had red snapper which he also enjoyed. We had started out with rum punch which really "packed quite a punch"! It was the first time I'd ever had plantain fries and found them quite dry , but dipping them in the yummy creamy garlic sauce on my fish or the guava salad dressing made them much more palatable. Went here for lunch and dinner when we spent the day at Luquillo beach! I can definitely recommend the Shrimp mofongo with creamy garlic sauce. It was excellent. But the fried whole fish for dinner was the best. So don't forget to ask for it :) Their chimichurri sauce with yuca fries were fantastic. And so, of course, was the tres leches for dessert. Many Bad things about the place! To name few: We put our names on waiting list for a table, & were told it would take 15-20 mins... it took over an hour to give us a table - with no apologies for the delay! We ordered two drinks.. i asked for Pina Colada - they got me one with no Alcohol.. why would they get me a pina colada without Rum!?!? At least they should ask!!! Fine.. i got over that.. We ordered two main courses.. it took more than 90 minutes for our plates to arrive!! And she came by after like 50 mins and told us our food will be here in 5 mins (which turned out more like 45 mins!) The mofongo was very much lacking in flavour!!! And was a bit under cooked!! I had to use half a bottle of hot sauce with it!! I would have appreciated if they have came to apologize for the delay! Or at least send a basket of bread to all the tables - which have been waiting for more than an hour and half each for their plates!! I have to give a mixed review of this place. Last time I came was 3 years ago I had a good experience not this time. The fish i had with mushrooms was really good. However, my friends ceviche was ok, lacking the details a good ceviche has. My aunts shrimp arepa was fresh but very plain in prep. We ordered fruit punch rum drinks that turned out to be weak. Remember rum is cheap here, so why the weak drinks? Our server was really good. The worse part though, the reason I'm writing, is in the way we were rushed to leave, After spending $95.00 dollars. The female host asked "kindly" if we could could leave. Mind you it wasn't even 15 minutes to digest or listen to the one man musician. They were full and had people waiting but we all felt very uncomfortable with the subtle hints the minute we finished our meal. As we left, the host gave us a fake apology for rushing us. I won't be recommending this place to my friends when they travel to this area. Plenty of better places to eat where people value their customers and don't rush them out. Greed is ugly. read more

Normally this area is for small kiosks with delicious fritters and beers. Terruño is more of a casual dining place, a little out of place for the locations, there are many other neighborhoods with places like this. But, we had young children, and felt a sit down place world be better with them. The service was abysmal, we were ignored for a long time, waited for over an hour for our appetizers. It wasn't until we complained to the server, after flagging him down, that we got our food, in a rush almost. Their supposed specialty, rabbit, was dry and over cooked, besides who makes rabbit their specialty in a seafood area? It took about an hour for us to get an appetizer platter of fritters with dried fried rabbit. Honestly it wasn't a great example of the kind of stuff you can get in Luquillo. Eventually, the main dishes arrived, the quality was better, and all fish dishes were delicious. The mero (grouper) chunks were flaky and not overly breaded, the salmorejo was deeply flavored and wonderful, and the stuffed snapper was very tasty, but served cold. Once we got the bill, my brother took the kids to the car while I paid, well the missed an item in the bill and completely ignored me (alone on a table), so I had to walk to the bar to pay the bill and get the issue fixed. There was live music, and it was great. The performer was great, and the volume wasn't overwhelming, it turned out to be the highlight of the experience. I doubt I would visit this place again. If I go to Luquillo with children, I'll take them to a fast food joint. If I go with friends, we will go to the more casual, fritters and beer places, after all, that's what Luquillo is all about. read more

Definitely worth a detour. Staff is awesome. Even though Maria doesn't like to make coffee she will do so with grace and dignity. The food is excellent - we had coconut rice with fish, octopus salad and grouper ceviche. All was excellent. The hot sauce they have contains MSG and while flavorful isn't very hot...but also its Puerto Rico so spices and spicy should not be co fused anyway. The local cat is friendly and sleepy. This is probably the worst food I have had in my life. The Carrucho was chewy, hard and flavorless. The piononos, were a mess! They supposed to be stuffed with meat and shrimp and it came with just little pieces of meat on top with a cheesy sauce. No shrimps at all. Slow service. This place is a ripe off we paid more than $30 for two appetizers and 2 beers. I was feeling sick after eating there. It's a shame that they are serving food like the one we had to locals and tourists. If you're around this area, your best bet is to grab a fresh friend food around. read more

4/5 unexpected quality, worth the stop. so there we were, in between rain and hangriness, having driven to we-didn't-know-where to get to this mystical rainforest (ok, maybe i was making us try to find this mystical rainforest), and we just needed to call it quits because this forest was way too mystical. we ended up backtracking to the luquillo kiosks and found this gem. after walking either end, we decided terruno had the right look (clean, good customer flow) and took a long table to the back. the manager came to serve us (i don't know if this is customary of all big groups), gave us his story of how he's from NYC, etc. etc, how some of us were from there, etc. anyways, friendliness off the bat. next came a pitcher of some quality sangria (i think beringer is their vendor). and then we all shared some tapas. of all the things we had, i still remember the chunks of ceviche, and then there was the coconut rice that was the perfect bed for the octopus - just so many right things that hit the spot on the somewhat cool, dreary afternoon. save room for the tres leches. possibly the best TL i've ever had - i mean the plate may or may not have been licked. the second surprise was their "apple pie" - it is actually more like a cake, but trust, also delicious. between the two we were all on a sugar high and ready for out evening escapade. he helped us out with a few more tips and really helped turn our moods around. read more

After a long day of trekking through El Yunque, we detoured to check out the food stands in Luquillo. There were so many to choose from that we had no idea which to pick. In instances like this, we usually troll around, see which place is the busiest with locals and go with it. This trick also works in food courts. The tables inside Terruno (booth #20) were pretty filled so we decided to check it out. We were able to grab a table towards the back. Since it was late afternoon and we already had lunch, we ordered appetizers to share - fried fish with plantain fries ($9.95) and deep fried cheese with guava dipping sauce ($6.95) and cans of cold Medella Light ($1). Our server was super friendly and our food came out quickly. Both appetizers were delicious and despite their deep fried nature, they weren't too greasy or over fried. I would gladly come back to Terruno for a full meal and cold drinks. We would have ordered more beer had we known that the cans were only $1. There were no drink prices on the menu. read more

On a scale of 1 to 10 this place is a 15. With a great view of the ocean from the back of the restaurant, its a nice location to stop in in between activities. The service was exceptional and the waitress also provided us with information about local nightlife and good places to visit while we were on vacation. Our food was just as good as the service. I got the skirt steak and my gf ordered the salmon and passion fruit plate. We were both pretty quiet during the meals as we were to busy to talk because the food was so good. The food was great, if not overwhelming. Both of the portions my wife and I had were way too much for each of us, I recommend splitting a meal with someone if you go there. The service was so-so, English was spoken here throughout the place. It's open air, so if the weather isn't great, you might want to look elsewhere. As with all of the Luquillo kiosks, you may need to give yourself plenty of time when looking through the menu. My biggest non-complaint complaint though? Their Name. The way it's written on the sign, menu, placards, it's hard to tell what it is. We didn't know until I was just browsing through yelp looking at places after we had finished up. We were in Puerto Rico recently to celebrate my wife's birthday and so we wanted to go somewhere special. We asked the people we were staying with and they recommended this restaurant. We were skeptical about a kiosko being the best restaurant around but it was. We both loved our dinners and it was the best dinner we had in our 10 days around the island. I would be a regular if we lived nearby. The prices are reasonable, the live music was nice, and the food was excellent. Parking during weekends can be a bit challenging though. read more

I came here because it was Monday lunch, and it could get a little crowded for my knowledge that a good one. Upon arriving, we were instantly greeted by smiles from all directions. You guys know how I love me some teeth :) They seated in less than a minute. Our waiter was so attentive her name Fabiola. I got the Sangria with Mofongo Stuffed with Churrasco and salad. The mofongo and churrasco was cooked perfectly ! That was by far the best mofongo/ churrasco I have eaten in my 54 years of life. The sangria was also refreshing. Everything was gone in under less than 20-25 minutes. The resturaunt itself is outdoors, but it's shaded. It has bathrooms, but it used per person. This place is very afforable. They give you a large amount of food for a great price. I was very impressed. The service couldnt have been any better. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly. My wife and I came here after hiking in El Yunke and chose this restaurant on the recommendation of the gentleman at the car rental agency. Coming on a Tuesday afternoon for a late lunch we were able to be seated immediately. Our waiter stopped by and took our order, which was Grouper with coconut and rice with sweet plantains, and my wife chose the ceviche with mofongo. For the restaurant being not very busy it took a while for our lunch to arrive (25-30 minutes), I'm not sure if they were cooking my dish from scratch (as it had a risotto like texture, and I could see it taking a while to prepare). It just would have been nice to be forewarned if the delay was foreseeable. In the end both dishes were enjoyed. I was hoping for a bit more grouper in my dish, but the fish that was present was perfectly cooked. My wife's ceviche was also good. Terruno is a great location to enjoy a meal or cold drink overlooking the ocean. Great job! read more

We ate at about 5 kiosks, some good sit down places and some pick up joints. This one was the best out of those all. Their service is great on non-busy days (weekdays). In Puerto Rico, most of the places make food from scratch when you order so it does take longer but you can always get drinks till then and enjoy the atmosphere. The view of the ocean is okay but the food is great here! My wife, who is a vegetarian, ordered vegetarian mofongo with garlic sauce and she loved it! We came again the next day to get the same vegetarian mofongo. Most of the kiosks are a little pricey but this one is the best value for the service and food. read more
