This is first time I've been disappointed with Terry Subaru brought my car in for a simple oil change and tire rotation. I had a scheduled appointment at 11:30 AM and I did not get my car back until nearly 2 PM and this was only after I went into the service area and found my service ticket on the service desk. Unsure as to how long it been sitting on that desk I commented to the young lady that 2 1/2 rather long for a simple oil change, and I immediately got an earful. The service advisor, Amanda, proceeded to tell me how terrible her day was going, and how much of an inconvenience it was to stay on top of things seems to me someone needs to remind Amanda that she's in a service industry, and her level of customer service is somewhat disappointing. I bought a from them two months ago and they said that they serviced it and they put I asked to have the hydraulic fluid checked in the car and they said they didn't and they weren't gonna charge me. They didn't fill it and it was cracked and they didn't fill it. Great sales experience, accommodating and professional. Purchased a new Subaru Outback Base model in December of 2024. The day before while discussing the sale on the phone with the salesman, Adam, I asked if he could bring the vehicle inside the service building as rain was forecasted on the day of purchase and it would make it difficult for me to evaluate the condition of the vehicle. Just had to take my vehicle in for it's regular service ( oil change and tires rotated) while I was there however I ended up getting a four-wheel alignment. Because I travel for work all over the country and just spent $1,000.00 on tires not even anyway ago I had to protect that investment and get the tires realigned. Even though I didn't have an appointment I was in and out pretty quickly. Great service, nice people, and most importantly didn't attempt to upsell me! Thanks guys. I purchased a brand new Subaru Outback Wilderness Edition in 2022. I brought it back in to the dealership 3 months after purchase for them to investigate a traction control issue. After having a specialist from Subaru of America evaluate the car he deemed it a normal function of the vehicle. The sales associate as well as the service department assured me that there was a fix for the problem. They identified it as an overly sensitive YAW sensor. The sales associate Chris Woods reassured me not to panic that Subaru was aware of the issue and it could be corrected by a simple upgrade. Come to find out that was untrue. The correction was made in the 2023 models but an update was never planned for the 2022. They mislead me to believe that it was a problem that would be corrected. Meanwhile my car is depreciating in value and when I finally took it back to trade it in because I could no longer tolerate the traction control issue they offered me a low ball offer and took no accountability for the flawed car or misleading me for a year. Low morals and poor business practice in my opinion. read more

We bought a certified used Ascent here. All seemed well, but ignorantly chose to buy extended warranty, tires coverage, etc. all of it a scam. Nothing is actually covered as there is a clause for everything. Nail in tire, not covered if in wrong place or tread certain thickness yet nothing in paperwork indicates this. For nearly 2 years they continually said nothing covered then one day admitted whatever bought in sales does not cross over into their service computers. ??? We had to show them paperwork. Windshield cracked, took it in day occurred. they said had to turn it in to claims. Over 1 week later heard nothing. Went back in said needed new pictures, would hear later that day IF covered. Next day still no call back. I asked if it were to get bigger what would happen, they said definitely not covered if bigger than a quarter. I fully believe they are waiting for it to spread so also not covering this. After nearly 3 hours waiting for them to look at nail in tire, he tells me it didn't puncture tire. I assumed fixed. Nope. I Called back and asked why not removed. He said it wasn't covered because of where nail was and tread (we've had car 18 months and trouble with this tire since day 1) and if removed it, would need to put on spare. Told me I could come back for him to do that. umm no thanks, we're fully capable of putting on a spare. He tried to sell me tires, claim same as originals but not even same brand. These people are scammers and liars. I would not purchase from them and aside from service already paid for would not give them another moment of my time or money. read more

I bought a 2009 volkswagon routan for 12k dollars. It lasted me 6 months and the motor failed after 14k miles. It.originally had 70k on it....it failed at 84k 5 months later. After a lot of back and forth I was asked to bring it in to "discuss my options" after I found that it was not covered by the 3 month limited warranty I got with it. I didn't take it to them for its annual oil changes, and because of this they told me basically someone else could have messed it up and it's not their fault. Basically I am left with 11k left on the loan, and no vehicle to get back n forth to work. The only help I was offered was for me to "bring it in" so they could look at it for free for an hour to tell me what I already know. It needs a new motor. How can I bring in a van that doesn't drive, just so you can tell me I need to pay you another 1800 to 2500 to replace the motor. I simply don't have it. So I am left at fault.....Holding the bag. The van was a mistake to buy and I was told that basically it's my responsibility to have brought it back to them for service instead of my regular oil change guy. Otherwise they would have caught it and addressed the issue. Awesome.....Thanks for the help. They told me i had to have the van towed back to their dealership just so they can look at it and tell me I need a new motor....then pay to have it towed back to my house, because I don't have the money to replace the motor. That's not help.....that's trying to get the work to replace the motor. Sorry guys.....I don't have 2k dollars. If I did I sure as hell wouldn't let you do the work after this experience. I dont have the money to bail myself out of thus mess and I definitely will NEVER buy another so called "certified" used vehicle again. I got absolutely screwed. My business. My home. My life. Its all upside down. All because I made the mistake of trusting a dealership. Some people cant win. I guess I am one of them. This is just one of a series of nightmares I have been living this year. This was just the icing on the cake. My advice. Don't buy used vehicles from this dealership. Its obvious they can't be trusted to ensure their vehicles are sound. But then again I made the mistake of not buying a warranty because I couldn't afford it. So ...I guess this is all my fault. I cussed them out, and have since apologized for yelling at them....but it still doesnt solve my problem. Sorry for yelling but I'm damn sure not sorry for sharing my experience. Crooks! I carried my car in for factory scheduled maintenance. My car sat for hours, then a technician test drove the car. Nothing was repaired or replaced. I was charged over $ 450.00 for my car to be parked in the shop. That was the first and last straw for me with Terry's Volkswagon and Subaru. read more

Like most people, I despise car shopping. I am, however, not willing to get robbed either so will put up a battle when needed to get a good deal. From the moment we walked on the lot and were met by Chris Woods we felt no huge pressure. Chris was easy going but wanting to ensure we were happy. We test drove a Crosstrek and when we pointed out a slight color flaw he instantly pulled out another one. They were quick and efficient when it came to the paperwork and helped entertain our kiddos while we were waiting! When we met with the finance staff (Opey) he too made it so quick and effortless. Not only did we feel like we got a good deal but we didn't feel like we wasted a whole day doing it! We left with a beautiful new car and a great feeling about the process. read more

Chris Woods was awesome - stopped by to look for a truck for our son, and found exactly what he was looking for, but didn't really expect the numbers to work out. Chris was great, talking it through with us to see what we hoped to get from our trade-in, and when it came time for a final out-the-door number, he gave me just that, rather than pricing in increments to make it seem cheaper, like so many places do (not including dealer fees or tax, title, tags, etc). I had no intention of actually buying that day, but drove off the lot with a new-to-us truck that will hopefully get my son through college, and I feel great about it. Thanks, Chris! read more

I had a HORRIBLE experience at Terry Subaru. My husband and I were in search of a new car and we came to test drive. The salesman was great...until the following week when we returned to talk about pricing. I made it clear that we had a specific budget for a car. When it came down to discuss numbers, I was handed a contract and pen and told to sign. I felt it was really forward to do that before we had even talked about our budget. I told him I wasn't signing anything and told him what was in my budget. Once he heard my number, he snickered and told me i would never find something in my price range. His advice was to find a car less than $10,000 and said, "good luck." I left the dealership in tears and extremely stressed out. Fast forward a week later: I went to another Subaru dealership in Roanoke where I was able to lease a BRAND NEW 2019 car in my price range. The difference between the two dealerships was literally night and day. I couldn't believe how horrible I was treated by the people at Terry. If you want to be taken seriously as a customer, STAY FAR AWAY from this dealership. read more

On 6/30/16, I bought a 2012 Mazda 3i Touring Sedan from Terry Subaru in Lynchburg, VA. On 7/3/16, as I'm driving it, I heard a flapping & then a scrapping noise. Pulled over & found the front driver's side mud flap gone & the wheel well protector pulled down. Got it home, took pictures, sent it to Terry & was told to bring it in. On 7/5/16, as I'm driving to Terry, the whole piece comes off & is rattling around in the wheel well. They assure me it will be taken care of. I also tell them that the front end is groaning every time I come to a slow stop or let up on the brakes - I'm told it's just those types of brakes (I'm just a stupid woman - what would I know about how brakes are supposed to sound). They had machined the rotors & put the brake pads on the car in 1/16 when they purchased it. 5 weeks later it's still not done & it isn't until I email the General Manager (Mark Dalton) & threatened to go on every social media available that I get a response. Profuse apologies, it'll be done. They come get my car & I send a note with it detailing exactly what needs to be done per my agreement with the Assistant Sales Manager (Wayne Clark) because I just want to get this all over & done with & don't want there to be any question as to what needs to be done. Brings me the car back - hadn't even touched the brakes - same loud groan, same decibel level (hoped I'd go deaf during the day & not notice or I'd get so frustrated & give up?). Made them come back, get the car & take it back. Emailed General Manager again. Fix this, make this right, this is Terry's last chance before I go public. Profuse apologies, will make this right, not because you're a woman, all our fault, will take care of this & make sure it's done right. Replaces brake pads & rotors - finally the brakes are fixed. As I'm driving home, I hear a scrapping noise. The exact same piece that had come off before & they took 5 weeks to replace was coming off. Pulled into Outback parking lot, called General Manager, told him to send someone with another car for me because I wasn't driving it anywhere. Profuse apologies, sales guy be there in 15 minutes. 40 minutes later I call to find out where this guy is & he's still at the dealership. The tech wanted to come along & he was still with another customer. Perfectly fine to leave me waiting until they get around to getting to me whenever that might be. Profuse apologies. On my way. When he gets there, I also inform him that the back end is now making noises that it wasn't before they got hold of it which I heard when driving over the rough downtown roads. Emailed General Manager this. Told him this is the last time they get their hands on my car &, if I get it back again & it still isn't right, I'm taking it to my mechanic & they're paying for it. I have never had such horrible service in my entire life. The incompetence & ineptitude is staggering. I have felt patronized, disregarded & disrespected by their Service Department - parts not ordered (both Assistant Sales Manager and General Manager confirmed this), not calling to let me know what was going on, repeatedly assuring me over the 5 weeks that this was going to be taken care of, patronizing me over the brakes. I was patient, I gave them every opportunity & I warned them twice that I would tell every soul I could reach how horribly I'd been treated if they didn't make this right & told them it wasn't a threat, but a fact. I will never, EVER have anything to do with them whatsoever & I highly suggest you don't either unless you want to be disrespected, strung along for weeks on end & have to return your car to them multiple times to try to get it repaired. I want to say that my salesman Sandy was a really great friendly person. However, I can't say that Terry Volkswagon stands behind their products. I purchased a vehicle from them and noticed the next day that the car had a large crack in the panel behind the front bumper. You wouldn't notice it unless you bent way down so I called them and told them about the problem and they came and got the car and said they would make it right. When they returned the car they did not fix the crack stating they did not feel like it effected the safety of the car and the car after all was a 2013. So they refused to fix it. I am very unhappy with the dealership as if you were to see this large crack you would know that the person cleaning car would have had to have known about it. The dealership sticks by the statement they just didn't know and I didn't notice so basically tough luck. read more
