The shaded area is blocked off. And it has no trashcan . I don't understand why Tesla would direct me to this charger, when there are 40 open 250 kW chargers three minutes away. I've never had to stop in this podunk city of Barstow when I used to drive a gas powered vehicle. If you have a standard range Tesla like me, you'll need to stop either here or Yermo if you're headed out to Las Vegas or Needles. This charging station isn't too bad. They currently have 16 charging stalls at this location. It's tucked into the corner of the parking lot next to Chili's and the nearby Ayres Hotel. Depending on the time of day, I normally will visit either the nearby Dunkin' or the In-n-Out across the street while I wait for the car to recharge. If you want to do a little shopping while you wait, you can also walk over to the nearby shopping outlets. read more

We came from Hawaii so we weren't entirely sure how to use the superchargers. When we charged the car, we thought we had to pay but end up not having to. The chargers are by the end of the area, very hidden. Food establishments are really nearby but if you're walking under the heat and sand is hitting your skin, it's not worth to walk across the street. read more

Highlights: Chilis is right there, and as Tesla charging station go its a great option. Oggi's Pizza and Pasta which is a short walk past the hotel which has great pizza and beer. With a little walking there are other shopping and eating options: the shops are annoying to walk to but you can while away an hour at the gap outlet or hit In N Out, jack in the box or Panera Bread for other food. read more

Really prefer this Supercharger over the one in Yermo (Eddie World) mainly because more choices of restaurants nearby. You'll find this SC same lot as Chilis. You can easily walk over to AM/PM, Dunkin Donuts, Ayres Hotel (Where we sat for 10 minutes after venturing AM/PM for 30 minutes), and of course Chilis. There's the covered area with 3 parking spots. Of course, on the day I was here, with charging etiquette, I didn't pull myself in between both covered cars. Charging solo yields the faster rate. That is, until someone parked next to mine and slowed down my charge rate when all the other spots were open. Seriously! If you have passengers who seriously need a restroom break and can't hold it, there are lots of bushes nearby. Kidding, there's one inside Chilis located North West of the building when you enter. read more

We stopped by on the way home to California and got lucky with a shaded charging spot. This allowed us to eat lunch in the car while charging. The area was nicely maintained and clean. They also provided trash cans which the other charging stations in other locations did not provide so that was a plus. We will be back on our next trip! read more

Of course, you'll only visit this SC if you need to... This SC is located near a Chilli's (not my fav) and is a long walk over a car bridge to the outlet. I would have preferred that this SC be in the outlet parking lot. I believe there are 4 chargers here. read more

We decided to stop at this supercharger thinking it was closer to the outlets and could do some shopping while we waited. However, it really wasn't. The only nearby place to eat was Chilli's. So we opted to walk a little further and in 111 weather, we opted for the closes El Pollo Loco. Nice there's also a Baskin Robbins closeby for a treat. Both locations had restrooms for patrons. Tesla locations, we suggest adding a trash can maybe so people can throw away trash while you are there. 16 stalls available. SYOY! read more

However it does take a longer time to charge then the one in Yermo. It took the whole 45 minutes to charge 135 miles. So if you want to relax and have lunch this is a good place. Stopped here on the way from LA to Vegas. Fully charged our Tesla model S in LA and another full charge here in Barstow. It took about 45 minutes for a full charge which was supposed to last until Vegas. However, due to the cold weather coupled with high elevation we had to also stop at the Primm Supercharger. There are many stations at the Barstow location and when we arrived around 6pm on a Friday night there were at least 5 empty stalls. The location was hard to find as it's hidden behind Chillis restaurant and next to Ayres Hotel. There is an outlet here near it (about a 10 min walk). Area can be a bit sketch at night, so be aware. There are warning signs for theft next to the station. A weird guy approached us requesting $40 cash (odd request lol). read more

We picked the wrong time to need a charge! Avoid this location if you can mid-afternoon on a Sunday. We were the sixth car in line when we got here and the line kept on growing. It was a 40 minute wait until we were able to start. Then, because all chargers were churning out the juice all at once, the flow was slowed. It took an hour and fifteen minutes to get our 80%. I guess it's all about the timing. The site is very convenient to reach and being directly behind a Chili's is a great thing if you're hungry. The traffic to and from Vegas on any weekend is so heavy that surely Tesla could increase the number of chargers here. Teslas are everywhere - a good thing. 5 stars when it's up and operational. Like other reviewers mentioned, this charger is not the easiest to find. Best to map Chili's, and you'll be able to find the Supercharger. Barstow is the popular halfway point and essential for the trip between LA and Vegas. Unfortunately, this site was vandalized/sabotaged prior to the Thanksgiving 2016 weekend. I had to hypermile between Rancho Cucamonga and Primm, because this station was down on my way to Vegas. Hypermiling can be achieved by turning off climate control, turning down your display brightness, lowering speed to below 65, and drafting off large semi-trucks. On the trip back, we were informed by Tesla service that Barstow was operational. Plenty of spaces, and plenty of juice is available to quickly charge. Plenty of eating/restroom stop choices within walking distance - Chili's, El Pollo Loco, etc. read more

I was very satisfied with this supercharger station. We hit it twice on our trip-on the departure and the return. Both times, there were plenty of bays to charge at, and it goes very quick. Finding this one for the first time was a pain. We arrived in the wee hours of the morning when it was still dark and drove around a bunch and finally spotted the red logo behind the Chili's, so look for that as your landmark. On the return, we were able to enjoy a quick meal at Chili's before getting back on the road. There IS a Starbux for you morning drivers that is on the other side of the hotel adjacent to the charging station. read more

This is the worst supercharger site we experienced on our trip from Palm Springs to San Francisco. First, it only has 4 bays. Second, it's near the intersection of several major highways so it gets a lot of traffic. The combination of these two factors mean you are likely to have to wait for a stall to open. It's particularly bad on a Sunday morning when all the LA/Vegas travelers are returning from Vegas for the weekend. Second, as far as I can tell, there are no solar cells to charge the supercharger battery. The overall result is a slow charge rate that started at 75 miles/hour and went down from there rather than starting at 200-300 miles/hour. Bringing this site up to full spec with 10 stalls would be nice. read more

CAUTION AND WARNING!!!!!!!! Shady area. USE THE AM/PM next door AT YOUR OWN PERIL!!! We had a very dangerous encounter there recently. We were driving to Vegas in 2/21 and I went to the AM/PM to buy something and use the bathroom while the car was charging. While I was in the bathroom stall I heard some screaming, yelling, and loud protesting from the store area...it sounded like a fist fight between women and was on the level of a Jerry Springer episode. It lasted the entire time I was in the restroom. When I came out it was completely quiet and normal. I thought that was very odd but I went about my business. On the return end of my trip from Vegas we stopped at the same charging station. This time I stayed in the car while my 16 year old daughter and her bf went to buy some candy and use the bathroom at the AM/PM. Apparently the bathroom was closed for cleaning but my daughter was desperate and used it anyway to avoid an accident on the floor. When my daughter came out of the bathroom a lady began cursing at her, kicked her and her bf out of the store, then followed them out into the parking lot, threatened to stab them with a knife, and then came up and punched my daughter in the face. The kids told me about it when they got back to my car. I contacted the police and to their credit they came within 10 minutes, investigated right away and found the perp. However, they did not arrest her and said they did not believe the DA would take action since they were currently not prosecuting people that were picked up for shooting others!! I'm giving the charging station a 3 star because its not their fault the world's most shady and dangerous AM/PM is located next door. But maybe Tesla could install a bathroom at the charging stations so that drivers aren't led into dangerous circumstances in these shady areas where they locate the stations. read more

It was difficult to find, and once we found it...waited an hour to get a spot, and needed the charge another hour then be able to get to Vegas. There were only 7 operational charging stations. Why would there be so few stations if this is a required stop to be able to get to Vegas? read more

Driving from Vegas to LA or vice versa, this is a terrific place to charge up. It used to be that there was a problem if you came here on a weekend because it was the only place to charge between the two cities. They now have 12 charging base in Barstow and they just opened another supercharger in Yermo just 12 miles north of Barstow. Should take the pressure off of The Barstow charging station. Given the choice between Yermo and Barstow, I like the Barstow charging station better because there are more options for grabbing a bite to eat. The charging station basically shares a parking lot with a Chili's, and Ozzy's Sports Bar, a Subway, and a Denny's. Another few yards and you're at a panda Express. And if you want to go shopping, the discount mall is another hundred yards away. Lots of ways to pass the 45 minutes to get you charged and filled up. In Yermo, you only have Eddie world.
