The staff, while is mostly comprised of college age hippies are knowledgeable and actually care. The whole store is very clean and the meat counter while very small screams old school home made!! The sausages looked so good I had to buy some, and after cooking them up with some onions and peppers my neighbors above me who are vegans were peeking as they chewed their grass and had to rethink their decisions on eating food that my food eats. There are fresh made sandwiches that they will press for you and give it that grilled awesomeness that only comes when your doing something special with meat and cheese and good bread pressed with 400 degrees of steel resulting in a sandwich that makes you want to light a subway franchise on fire. Now on my most recent trip, covid is rampantly knocking off people so a lot of the fun stuff has been put away. Normally they have fresh cooked food that you can box up hot and take and eat. The selection ranges from American favorites like loaf of meat and spaghetti to Indian food to soups and salads ( spinach salad is good, the dressing makes it the bomb dot com ) and fresh cookies and breads oh my. ( Public Notice: no lions or tigers ) You will spend more money per item here than Walmart. They don't have as good of a selection as Wegman's. They don't have a coupon app thingy that makes you think your saving money like everyone else. But you will feel like your saving baby seals and once you leave and start to load stuff into your vehicle a rabbit will wink at you in a attempt to say thank you. The lesson here is pay more money for food that tastes like food and not canned crap. Yes, we all like to save money, and that's noble. But there is a time to eat your extra long chili cheese coney ( much love sonic ) and there is a time to bite into a peach and feel like your a little kid again and have wonderful sweet juice roll off your chin and life is once again, is worth living. We went half a dozen times and always had outstanding food and a great time. The chef would always come out and ask how we liked our food. It was more of a salad, with what I would describe as an Asian Rick cracker type noodle in it. It was good. But 110% different. Not what we expected. To me it didn't feel authentic and like it was premade. I'm thinking those crackers that you get from Chinese restaurants with your meal in those bags. The greasy ones. Our meals came at around 8 and again, different. Wow it's been over an hour! Our bread was moist but good. Didn't mop up any sauce though since it was so buttery. The rice, which we normally would get 1-2 large bowls for the table, we each got a small bowl, maybe 1 cup of rice if that. The rice was watery and didn't have the herbal flavor we were use to. I want to say there use to be peas in the rice. Tonight it was just rice. Mine had some clumps of rice in it, like you get from rice that's been in the fridge, had water added and then re-zapped. My vindaloo, which I was accustomed to being a lovely deep red in color, large chunks of chicken, and potatoes, was a curry orange in color. A Chick-fil-A spicy nugget had more spice. No potatoes and I counted 8 pieces of chicken. I didn't say anything as our server was so dreadfully slow. Nothing against the guy, he was very polite, apologized every time he came to the table (don't do this my friend, once is enough), but we didn't want to get stuck their longer. My wife said there was no spice In hers either. We got our to go boxes, which were the styrofoam boxes with 3 sections in it. Before they had those tin containers with plastic lids. I loaded my few spoons of rice and my Vindaloo curry contraption into the container, 99% sure it would spill in the car but my wife somehow kept it together, knowing I'd have to make some rice in the instapot for the leftovers, since they didn't give us any extra rice.... They use to just give you a full container or rice to go. We ended up leaving at 8:45. Remember we got there at 6:45. We each had one drink. And 2 refills of water. The spinach chaat had pre-made noodles(?) in it, with a salad of the rest on top. Our meals were lacking spice, and ingredients. The rice was bland and reheated. I love rice. I could live off it. This was not good rice. And it took 2 hours to have a meal that should have taken an hour. I'm not sure if this place is under new management, or what has happened. But this has happened twice now, so I'm not sure we will be going back until we hear things improve. And I hate to say that since it's 15min away from our house, and the experience gave it more then five stars before.

I fortuitously stumbled across the Hollerstown Hill B&B and they had exactly one room left: the Queen Anne. Since Frederick is one of our favorite small towns in the general area, with several truly excellent restaurants and always something happening, and because the B&B's location is very central and the pricing reasonable, I went ahead and booked it. And I am so glad that I did! From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by our hosts, Betty and Phil. They showed us around the various common area rooms, including a large sitting room, a game room, a dining room, and a the large wrap-around porch. And invited us to use their coffee maker or grab a cold bottle of water, soda, beer or wine from the refrigerator. And then they showed us up to our room. The Queen Anne room is fabulous, with lots of light from the large windows, a King bed, two drawing chairs, an armoire, a sink/dressing area and a separate toilet and shower. Overall I have nothing but amazing feedback on our hosts and our accommodations, but if Victorian decor and dolls aren't your thing or something you'd be amused by -this may not be the place for you. Although in that case, there will be more of Betty's scrumptious chocolate chip oatmeal cookies for those of us that enjoy a truly memorable experience!

Their home is over 100 years old and well kept. Their home is a historic Victorian with a lot of collectable decor. It's fun to spend a night or more here for a cozy and personable experience. We had no problem parking out front. They have snacks, beverages, wine, beer, a library, pool table and a porch out front for a nice breeze during weather appropriate months. The home is about half a mile from downtown where there are amazing restaurants and cute shops.
