Great location but would appreciate a rubbish container so we could empty our road litter while traveling.

There was something for everyone at our trip to the Science Museum of Virginia!…read more My preschooler loved the large scale pterodactyl flying in the air and the lego replica of the museum while my nine-year old loved all of the interactive exhibits and fun facts that went with it. Because the Virginia Science Museum is a reciprocal member of the Children's Science Museum in Fairfax we got free admission. It is also right next door to the Children's Museum of Richmond so you truly could spend a whole day in the area just exploring, learning, and having fun.

I've visited twice within the past month -- once on a chilly weekend day to explore all the sights, and again this past weekend for Neon Night. The museum itself is pretty dense with exhibits. The Power of Poison exhibit was very well thought out and loaded with details and visuals. You could easily spend an hour in there. I enjoyed the Boost exhibit the most, as it was hands on. I don't have kids, so I can't speak for the kids-focused activities, but I did enjoy the reptile room quite a bit too -- especially the "search" for certain creatures in their tanks. Neon Night was well done and attended by seemingly half of the city. I kept running into people I knew. I'd definitely attend one of their after-hours events again in the future. At $25, admission was reasonable. Drinks were also cheap. A cup of wine was just shy of $7. I was shocked that the dome show was narrated, as I was expecting it to be more of a movie vibe. I do wish they'd add a coat check. It's nice they have a parking lot adjacent to their building, but it's still a decently long walk when it's 20 degrees outside.

This was your typical white table cloth fine dining that I always find hit or miss. However, this one was definitely a hit as we enjoyed almost every single bite from the meal. Mussels were plump, hamachi was fresh and the scallops were sweet and perfectly seared. Service was amazing and the ambiance of the hotel made this a special dinner. The server gave me a printed souvenir menu with "Happy Anniversary!" printed across the top for my celebration. To begin, I was offered bread (that is complementary) and I then had the Chesapeake Bay Crab Cake. This was an appetizer-sized cake with lots of crab. This seafood had a slightly sweet taste of delicate seafood meat. The sauce was of a tangy mustard base. My main dish were the Carmelized Sea Scallops. The seafood was wonderfully seared to create a buttery flavor on the 3 large scallops. The mollusks were carefully placed on perlou with a peppery finish. The rice absorbed the seafood broth to make a richly seasoned bed. The perlou also offered a smoked meat flavor. Very tasty. This is a charming restaurant with very high quality food.

Drinks: Majority of the party enjoyed fresh lemonade while my boyfriend and I enjoyed cocktails. Me: Flight of the Bumblebees- this was a refreshing summer drink My boyfriend: Tiger's Eye. Perfect bourbon flavor Food: The cornbread was our least favorite, really dry and lacked taste. Fried oysters- these were divine! Lightly seasoned and fried well. The remoulade and house pickled carrots, pickles, and onions added a fresh touch to the dish. My dish: Pasta Bolognese. This was AMAZING! All of the flavors that you'd look for in a well prepared Bolognese. I was thoroughly pleased Other dishes: Special: Steak with glazed rainbow carrots and stringed beans. The steak had a little too much salt but it was prepared well and the rainbow carrots were amazing Chicken tenders and fries for the little one. They loved it lol Bone in pork chops: I was told that this was incredible from start to finish Overall, we had a great dining experience and appreciate the staff for accommodating our large party during a graduation celebration.

We had tried to make reservations for a group visiting from out state but were not allowed to by the reservation. Should have taken this as a sign that groups are clearly not wanted nor welcome when arriving. The staff tried everything they could to make it an unpleasant experience once they were assured of an automatic 20% gratuity. Petty things, such as forbidding the movement to another table out of the sun, when there were many other tables available. I left early after being chastised for loving a chair but the family decided to stay. They shared that the crappy service continues the entire time they stayed. Those that are reported that the food was fair at best. Not sure that this sorry excuse for service is a great business model. Perhaps it is saved especially for large groups. Either way it would appear that the just do not care. Stay away.
