Dragonfruit margarita with chips and salsa

Loved this place! Unique election of margaritas . Friendly service The best Mexican rice I have ever had! I wish I lived in Rochmond so I could come back more often!

They were very accommodating of our very large table, food was delicious, the place was well put together and they had all the great Mexican options I'd want from a place like this (and I'm from Texas!) Very cute decorations too. Yes, they bring chips and salsa as a rule, and both are great. Salsa is not too spicy but has a nice flavor. Chips are of good quality. Margaritas are reportedly strong and very good. All of the dishes that I saw (and there were many of them) looked tasty. Birria tacos were very good (though I wish they'd brought a tangier/hotter hot sauce out with those specific tacos, like they do at some other places) and the rice and beans were also great! Apologies for my half eaten pictures-- I couldn't help myself. Now to be clear, you can get the same or sometimes better for less money on a good night at Plaza Azteca. The draw of this place is its prime location in Shockoe Bottom and large quantities. Will I go here for Mexican food on a regular basis? No, I can get the good stuff more conveniently elsewhere. But for a night out or a nice group event? It's a yes all day. I recommend!

Tequila and Tacos Food Review If you're craving Tex-Mex vibes, Tequila and Tacos is worth a visit! I ordered the chicken tacos, which were decent but leaned more Tex-Mex than authentic. The flavor was solid, though slightly salty for my taste. I'd rate the food a 7/10. What truly stood out was the service--10/10. I sat at the bar, and Jessica was an absolute gem. If you go, make sure to ask for her. She was attentive, friendly, and made the experience so much better. The spot itself is clean and beautifully designed, perfect for a casual night out. Plus, the happy hour deals are hard to beat--running daily from 2-7pm with $3 beers and $6 margaritas. My taco combo (3 tacos, rice, and beans) was just $15, which felt very reasonable. All in all, it's worth checking out, especially during happy hour. Go for the great service, stay for the margaritas!

Great margaritas , I love the giant size martini glasses, refried beans were not tasty, nor the salsa. I had the Birria and fish taco , both not the best , and I had to ask seperately for the birria broth which also left something to be yearned for on my palette.

It's a little more expensive than similar restaurants, and it's worth every dime! I've been watching this place come together over the last few months, and I'm so happy it's finally here. The tacos are so so good. The toppings are fresh and the meat used good quality and quantity. I had the barbacoa (crisp and juicy) and one of the specialty tacos (the MVP I believe) both were very good. As a wing fan, I felt obligated to try those as well (buffalo) and I wasn't disappointed. The staff were all incredibly friendly. The interior is welcoming and fresh with pops of color and high quality TVs to watch all the sports (go, sports!). Since it's so close, I'm sure I'll be sure to update you soon. My pictures will be of better quality then, too.

My wife and I went there to have dinner for our anniversary and we enjoyed everything. The staff invited us as soon as we walked in, the restaurant was very clean and the food was packed full of flavor.

Beautiful restaurant! Parking was convenient, there is a lot across from the restaurant that you can park in for $5. Outside of happy hour, the drinks were expensive ($12 for a glass of wine). Happy hour only included beer for $3 and their house margaritas for $6. Food was reasonably priced. I ordered the birria tacos, they were ok but not much flavor.

My friends and I went to Mas Tequila y Tacos for my friend's birthday dinner. The drinks were good for the most part! My friend didn't like the dragonfruit margarita she ordered though. They do have authentic tortillas for their tacos which were delicious. The space itself is beautiful, however, service could have been better. We went when it was not busy and the server took a long time to come to our table to take our drink orders and even walked away before giving us a chance to let them know we were ready to order food.

We had the option of getting brunch or the regular lunch menu. I ordered the OG chicken sandwich and it was amazing. The chicken was full of flavor and juicy and I liked the sauce that came on it. Their famous short rib egg rolls were a bit burned on the outside so a bit dry on the inside. They did have a very good sauce served with them that pretty well covered the flaws. The risotto that came with my duck leaned a little too far to the mushy side. The duck itself was really good. My niece had the salmon, and she had no complaints. if you are going to read any of these dumb yelp review in full, this is the one…read more i once read an article describing the talent of the head chef's ability here to "cram so much bold flavor into a tiny dish". in general, i usually dread small plate restaurants expecting to pay a large bill and leave hungry. this was the exception. these were the most unique, creative, high end, flavorful, dishes i have ever had. seriously. the absolute best BITES of my ENTIRE life. i swear to god dormant tastebuds and flavors i didn't even know existed were provided here. the chef here draws spanish inspiration into each dish, and i was in there feeling like the food critic from ratatouille the way familiar flavors blended in effortlessly with extravagant flairs. and don't get me started on the presentation !!! everything was gorgeous. this restaurant was named #3 out of 100 in the city, and i honestly think it should be #1. i may be biased since my boyfriend works at a sister restaurant owned by the same guy, but this is definitely the favorite sibling for me. unreal how fresh, flavorful, and carefully crafted everything was. so so so so good. if you come to richmond, make this the top priority to visit. that being said, if you can't handle intense, innovative flavors, this isn't the place for you. also, go during happy hour

Hats off to the staff at Lillian who continue to be wonderful, but now that they have scrapped…read moretheir dollar oyster lunch specials, the food has absolutely nothing to offer. Like too many restaurants in the Scott's Addition area, this is seafood cooked without finesse and then absolutely brutalized with absurd amounts of palate fatiguing, brash, loud flavors. Every item on the menu endeavors to conceal mediocrity in the quality and handling of the ingredients with explosive, overwhelming additives meant to shock you into submission. Things like black garlic and chili oil, raw garlic, sesame seed oil, and punishing heat are inescapable on the menu, which really says to me loud and clear "we do not understand the appeal of seafood, and might have a fundamental misunderstanding about good food in general." I don't exaggerate when I say these dishes would be improved (setting aside things like inability to properly cook octopus) by scaling back the flavors to 5-10% the loudness level they are currently at, to let the ingredients speak, and to make the dining experience less of a punishing marathon with no relief. I have had much subtler and more skillfully balanced dishes at Indian and Thai restaurants, cuisines known for strong flavor profiles. I'm through listening to these Richmond restaurants trying to excuse simply bad food by claiming "that's the nature of the cuisine." In this case, Lillian claims that dishes characterized by these cacophonous competing flavors is "South American." No it isn't - the person conceptualizing the dishes is just a bad chef who doesn't know what he's doing, and at the prices Lillian charges, that's inexcusable. Drowning every dish in flavors that overwhelm the palate is not a way to respect your ingredients or your diner, and only communicates youth and insecurity. Anyone who's eaten widely and knows their ingredients will rightly feel assaulted and insulted by this overpriced, unskilled fare. To anyone who decides to go anyway: Good luck with the digestive distress, and with the taste that will still be left over in your mouth the next morning, no matter how much you brush your teeth.

He asked for the password and we, unprepared, had to tell him a joke or an interesting fact. Luckily, my partner had one on hand. The atmosphere was lovely, very reminiscent of a 1920s speakeasy, or at least what you'd imagine it to be like. Our server came by within a few minutes of us being seated. She lacked enthusiasm, unlike the host, unfortunately. Her service turned out to be lackluster as well. We ordered the chicken pot pie and the filet mignon with asparagus. For drinks, the Grape Gatsby and Maine root beer. The food, like our server, lacked appeal. The saving grace was the host and the atmosphere. The view was lovely and the intimacy of the setting was a welcome experience. For dessert we ordered the bread pudding, and it was tasty, though nothing special. The burned odor that we smelled prior to its arrival turned out to be the bread. I can recommend Grandstaff and Stein as an experience, but you should not expect much in the way of culinary delights or exemplary service. We probably won't be back, but if you've never been, it's worth trying at least once.
