After having spoken with a couple undependable contractors to replace our broken outdoor central-air compressor, we spoke with the general contractors who did a lot of work for us when we first moved into our apartment; they recommended A&L. A&L got the job done quickly and reliably, and every interaction we had with them was professional. We would happily go back to them again. To replace the air handler/coil indoors, the outdoor condenser, and the line set between them, cost $15,381.81. It's expensive, yes. But you get what you pay for, and we got exceptional service. read more

Our usual plumber was not available and we needed someone to hook up shower/bath pipes for a new set of fixtures. A&L was able to come out fairly quickly. Thank goodness we checked the work ourselves before sealing the wall because when we turned the water on, water poured out of the pipes because the plumber never actually capped it off. A&L sent him back out to repair it and the second time, the job was so bad gluing the pipes together that water leaked out. Finally, Paul came out to fix it himself, removed the whole mess and started again. The end state was fine enough but it took 3 separate days of service calls and a near flooding of our house. Also, they tried to charge us for more than one service call! I believe this was more of an issue with their automated billing but sure left us with a bad taste. Now, two years later, we have to rip open the ceiling under the tub because -surprise- that's a slow leak in the pipes A&L installed. There are lots of other contractors out there. Over an hour late and tried to charge us $600 for 30 minutes worth of work (no parts) to disconnect a sink. Definitely tried to take advantage of my situation as a woman home alone with a baby. Will be filing a complaint to BBB. Scam just to get their dispatch fee. We have used A L several times but I won't be using them again. They just charged us $800 to repair a powder room toilet. My husband priced the part online for $54. BUYER BEWARE. The last 6 months of my life have been a bit of a nightmare. If I could give 0 stars, I would. A&L was hired to install a new $30K heating system in Nov 2023. There were several issues with the install like not testing the system, mixing zones, not purging lines, air in the gas line, etc. I was willing to look past those issues until this year when one of the pipes came apart. Upon review, it was discovered (and confirmed by A&L and other plumbers) that one of the pipes wasn't originally crimped. See images. The result is as follows. My entire basement had to be gutted, contents damaged and I've been fighting with insurance for 6+ months. Stress and headaches aside, I'm still not whole and I'm faced with 10s of thousands of dollars of repairs out of my own pocket. I've also had to pay for storage for my belongings. It gets better...I found out my insurance is getting canceled because of this claim and my premium will go up to $8K/year (a $6K increase). I should have learned my lesson the first time when A&L was hired to solder another pipe years ago. They could never get it to stop leaking, so I ended up buying my own torch and soldering it myself. The work was done well and the only 2 complaints I have are, I thought the $189. price of the estimate would be removed if I had the work done, and the tub/shower set they selected does not have a volume control so the water volume can not be regulated by the person in the tub/shower which is annoying. read more

We contacted A&L when we needed annual maintenance on our gas boiler in fall of 2024. They did a thorough job, very professionally, arriving on time and giving a fair price. We next contacted them in early 2025 to replace our rusted bathtub. The process, from estimate to finished product, went extremely well. The day of the installation, they sent texts showing the names and photos of the two-man crew (Ben and Mike), who arrived promptly and were very professional and knowledgeable. They worked quickly and efficiently, finishing the installation in one day. As they were wrapping up, they asked if there was anything else they could do. They cleaned up so well you wouldn't know they were even here. As a follow up, they came the day the town inspector came to ensure that process was completed properly. Stay away! Got a quote of $1540 to fix a leaky toilet! It was leaking from the bottom and needed a new wax seal. I quickly found another plumber who charged $350, which is less then one quarter of the price! Even had to pay a $145 'service fee' for just showing up and diagnosing the problem :-(. I canceled their yearly service and claiming this not well worded cancellation policy they would not reimburse me for 2 two heating systems not have been serviced. I had water and filter monitors installed that worked even when I switched providers and also because I made the mistake of "buying them" no reimbursement was adequately given. I have been waiting over a month for an estimate from A&L to hookup mini splits for my home. I have called two or three times to get the estimate. The technician was friendly and the phone operator is very friendly as well. They keep promising me an estimate. Now it is 100 degrees outside, a month later, and still no estimate. Paul came to replace the back flow part of the irrigation system . He came on time and finished the job in 30 min and charged me $550 . He told me that the main reason the price is high is because of the part price. After he left I checked the price of the part he installed online and it was $119 . So he charged me $400 plus for the installation . He also broke a part of the irrigation pipe and asked me to call my irrigation company to change it . When I called him and asked for explanation he said they buy the part from local supplier and charge a flat fee for this. Overall , to me as someone who trusted them and even did not quote them before coming , it was one of the worse maintenance experiences I have read more

My initial reaction to their first visit was highly positive. The plumber was very thorough in his assessment of the work that needed to be completed in each of our 3 bathrooms. However, 2 visits later, my opinion changed. The second visit was a complete re-do of the first as the plumber did not take accurate notes about the work to be completed nor did he have any recollection of the first visit. While we chose to provide the fixtures and supplies for the work, A&L did not express any immediate concerns with this approach. Things went downhill during the 3rd visit where the plumber failed to communicate the challenges he might potentially have with the fixtures we provided for the work. As a result and several hours later, we were left with a damaged antique cabinet in which the basin and faucet were installed and done so poorly. We were left with carpentry work to be done, wall plastering and repainting as a result which simply added an unexpected cost. The repair in the second bathroom was completed but did not remedy the issue. It was a simple dripping faucet! And the drip persists 30 days later. We haulted the work on our third project in fear of the final result and our lack of confidence in A&L's ability to complete it without the addition of unexpected carpentry work and finishing costs. In the end, no cost concessions were made with regard to the quality of work. We simply agreed that there was a "communication" issue. NOT! If you have a straight forward job that requires little intrusion to the walls or surrounding area, then A&L might be your solution. ANYTHING beyond that, buyer beware! read more

We had a split in a small section of pipe in the basement and were without water. I filled out their online contact form and 2 guys came out within the hour. This was a GREAT start and I was SO happy! We were quoted an amount for parts and 1.5 of labor, the guys left, came back and worked for 45 minutes. Our final bill still showed 1.5 hours of labor and when questioned they told me the trip to the hardware store was included. Although I wasn't pleased, I still paid the full bill immediately. My husband called later for an explanation and to voice that we felt taken advantage of. The owner was EXTREMELY rude (swearing, threats and yelling). Yes, we broke a pipe and yes, they fixed it. I have zero issues with that part. The horrible treatment received when we questioned something was unjustified and offensive. The owner, Paul, calls back promptly, offers fair prices and in my opinion goes beyond the distance to get the job done in a timely manner. Very arrogant. Very rude. Paul, the supposed owner, is INCOMPETENT and an outright LIAR. He MIS-DIAGNOSED our GE Aire system error codes. Installed a new cylinder, which was not needed. We had to call manufacture to educate him that it was a valve issue. He ordered the WRONG VALVE and eventually gave up on repairing the system. His dumb as a door nob secretary/ receptionist REFUSED to pick up our repeated calls to get it right or reschedule. These guys were no shows! We called for a furnace cleaning and they scheduled an appointment for two days later, with a two hour window - not bad. Then, we waited. We waited all afternoon for the 12 - 2 window and no one came or called. We called the office, during office hours and it went to voice mail. They never had the decency to call back! We understand things happen, a job goes long or a truck breaks down. But you call the customer and let them know. And if the customer calls, you answer. We called early the next morning (got an answering service, so they don't like to miss phone calls) and cancelled them. We will use someone reliable. read more

We asked to have someone come do an annual check on our central air conditioning. They came out quickly, but they did not live up to the "guaranteed" quote given over the phone. They told us it would only take 1 hour, most likely a lot less. When the guy came out he decided very quickly that he needed to run back out for something. after 45 minutes he came back and replaced a filter. then he spent some time on calls and in his truck. after an hour and a half he said he would need to charge for the full 90 minutes. My nanny paid him since I was not home when he left. I called afterwards and he said he would not give a refund for the last 30 minutes. The cost was nominal, but I am very disappointed in his approach and response to my request. I called back a 2nd time to discuss further (all very cordial calls and conversations) and he would not call me back. Due to the poor follow up, mis guided "guarantee" on the phone and slow work I must give them a 1 star. the work they did was fine, the filter replacement was a rather simple task and done easily, but I am very disappointed in the approach and customer service.
