When I saw that all of Dolan's 8 recommended reviews were 5 star (except for one that complained Dolan wanted to ask her questions about the specifics of her plumbing situation before giving an estimate) I decided to give Mr Dolan a call too. He was polite and very upfront that his work is charged by time, not flat rate, and that we might be financially better off working with someone more local to us. In spite of the fact that he then knew we would be employing a closer plumber, he spent considerable time on the phone looking at the plumbing photos I texted him and explaining the particular issues a plumber would have to resolve in our 1970's plumbing situation. It was obvious he was experienced, knowledgeable, and generous with information. Through my own experience over the years, I have found that when service professionals give flat rates without any questions asked, they are assuming that it will be a standard job. I appreciate when the plumber tries to understand the particular plumbing circumstances with questions and photos BEFORE the estimate, and before appointments are made. Many yelp reviewers of plumbers are surprised and unhappy when they only are told the job will cost more once the plumber arrives, and then the plumber expects to be paid for time spent coming to the house. The impression that Mr Dolan left with me from our single phone conversation is that he is a person of integrity who wants people to understand their particular plumbing situation, what the remedies might be, and then what the cost might be, so they can make educated decisions BEFORE the plumber comes in and expects to get paid for the visit. Solely because of the extra cost that would be incurred by us as a result of the distance, we did not hire Mr Dolan, but we would certainly recommend considering him if your project is closer to his location.

You seemed offended when I asked you about pricing, then you couldn't clarify any information based on your line of questioning. We were a long time customer of Demelo Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning. Over the years we have…read moreused them for drainage issues, plumbing repair and hot water heater maintenance and until recently delivered a reasonable service. On our request, Demelo came to our house on June 7 to clear a clogged kitchen drain. The technician worked on it and declared the problem fixed. We were charged $230. About a week later the drain was clogged again. On June 17 Demelo returned to clear the same clogged drain. A different technician "fixed it" and charged us another $370. In a weak moment I paid. So after paying $600 and one more week, the drain was clogged again for the 3rd time. On June 28, we called Ari's ProDrain Cleaning to clear the same clogged drain that none of the Demelo technicians were able clear. Ari charged us $250 and gave a 30 day warranty. The drain is working well now. I contacted Demelo several times to complain and I requested a $300 refund (should be all $600). After several calls the Demelo business person told me that the owner can only authorize a $60 credit on THE NEXT SERVICE. Demelo does not provide a warranty on their work even though their website states under plumbing services: "Demelo Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning is there to fix those problems, making sure your day-to-day routines, whether at work or home, continue unabated. Need an installation or repair? Call us. We'll have one of our team members out to appraise the situation and get you up and running, leaving you with the confidence of knowing the job was done properly." In other words empty words. The charge time and materials whether they fix the problem or not. Clearly a company to avoid.

So glad they were the ones to get back in touch! Kaiden was on it immediately, found the clog, took care of it and we were back in business in less than an hour. We could not recommend this business highly enough!

Had to have the pump in my basement bathroom pump-up tank replaced. While the job was eventually…read moredone, there were a number of problems. First, the tech misquoted the pricing (three times) on his way in - by several hundred dollars. I found this out being handed the bill on his way out the door - 'I made a mistake'. When taking the tank apart, broke most of the PVC connecting to the septic tank. It was all replaced, so I guess I got some of my money's worth, but they were unable, for some reason, to remove one of the tank cover bolts, so they just spun the cover around on that one bolt. We won't know until warm weather if they were successful in properly sealing everything back down. The entire area around the tank (my utility room) ended up literally soaked in septic tank water. The removed pump was deposited in the middle of the floor. (At one point, they wanted to walk a bucket of vaccumed up septic water through the house to dump it in my upstairs toilet.) There was no care taken to protect carpet in the process of removing any of the old (septic) materials out of the basement. There was no effort made to dry or disinfect the utility room at all. The second reason for the call was a clogged sink drain upstairs. We provided access to the cleanout downstairs. When the pipe was finally snaked, the resulting black clog coming out of the cleanout missed a waiting trashbag, and was deposited on the carpet, splattered in a living area. There was no protection used on the floor at all. The tech said, 'I sprayed cleaner on it, it will dry with no stain'. It took me personally two hours plus of cleanup work to remove the mess they left. I also spent another hour or so disinfecting the utility room. With their own photographs for evidence, I still had to make a number of calls to get the attention of their office manager, who finally agreed to a small refund to cover my time. This ended up as a bill of around $2000. Although the work was 'performed', apparently the concept of customer service has been abandoned in our current culture. I couldn't help feeling like they thought I should have had no complaints. I had a bunch, and frankly the $250 compensation off the final bill was still insulting. Overall, a horrific experience - I would not recommend this company to anyone, for anything, thanks.
