Updated Review: As soon as I posted my yelp review, I got a call from the owner of the company apologizing for their no-show. He explained that the system missed my appointment and it never got logged. I was confused by this because I was sent a confirmation email immediately following making my appointment. If it didn't get logged then how could I get a confirmation email? He didn't have an answer for this and continued to apologize and sent me a home depot gc to make up for their mistake. I agreed to let them come the next day to do an estimate and the owner called me again to inform me on who was coming for the estimate and to check-in. Damon arrived on time and was extremely professional. He even had a formal quote for me by the end of his estimate, which I appreciated. The quote however was almost double the amount than the other quotes I received, so I won't be working with them, but I appreciate their ways in trying to remedy the situation. Despite their ways of trying to remedy the situation, I kept getting this uneasy vibe that the owner wanted me to change my review. He didn't flat out say it, but he mentioned that their small business relies heavily on reviews and something along the lines that my negative review could "immediately impact livelihoods". I rely heavily on yelp to give me honest and fair opinions on businesses, and if I change my review because the owner guilts me into it makes me question the business and their existing reviews all together. With that being said, I appreciate their ways in trying to remedy the situation. They are professional when they do show up. If you make an appointment with them, I encourage you to confirm with them over the phone to make-sure you really have an appointment so you're not waiting around. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This review is in regards to their service, and not an actual paint job since I couldn't actually get a hold of anyone. I made an appointment online for Tex Painting to come by today to give an estimate. I even got an email confirmation confirming the appointment. They were supposed to come at 3pm, but no one has shown up or called. I tried calling, but all you get is an automated system. The only actual contact I got was their online chat system and all the associate could tell me is that they'll relay the information to someone on their staff. At the end of the chat conversation, she made a point to remind me that I could make an appointment online... No thanks, tried that already and no one showed up. First impressions matter when it comes to hiring someone for a service. And if they aren't on time and even worse, don't show up or follow-up to explain why, gives very little confidence that they would do a good job when you actually hire them for something. *Don't pay for the job, until it's done right & the invoice is correct. Regardless, of pressure. *Job depends on the account/crew manager and painting crew you're assigned. Others may be great. *A few hours after I posted this review, Tex Painting owner called, apologetic. He recommended contacting him, directly, if we have any warranty issues, or issues with future jobs - which we appreciate. Dan's painting crew, David and another painter, were very hardworking, and took in our feedback to get the job done right. David even offered to paint an area, a previous painter missed in the kitchen. Dan, the account/crew manager, on the other hand, was the opposite. Dan spent more time arguing about why things couldn't be done. It was sad to see Dan push his painters to finish the job in half the time estimate. Then harshly criticize their work, when it was not done right. Then, Dan came up with excuses why the work wouldn't be completed right: "They already put on two coats (even though areas were missing paint)", "I don't feeling like coming back", "My weekend is starting by Friday afternoon", "I need to be paid, today (early, before the job was properly done)", etc. Dan didn't even write up our invoice, correctly. And, he argued with us, (refused), when we asked him to correct it. Some of Dan's mottos are "I take a lot of pride in my work." and "Just look at my great Yelp reviews". But, we never experienced that, only Dan's prideful ego. Fortunately, Dan's painters were pleasant and hardworking. If you're able to deal with Dan's bullying, the painters will gladly do the job right. In addition, to bearing Dan's tyrannical abuse. BTW, Zach at Southern painting was also unprofessional, along with his crew, when we hired them to paint the outside of our house. They took many shortcuts & did a sloppy job - painted the outside door while it was still closed, mismatched wood, nail heads started rusting after a month, etc. At least the Tex Painting painters, like David, were willing to do the job right, professionally, once given the time, at our insistence, and feedback of corrections needed. Also, time will also tell if our "white" bathroom cabinets' paint peels (again). We this experienced with another painter after two years - used latex paint over oil based paint, according to another painter. It looks to be doing so already in one spot. Fortunately, Tex Painting warranties their work. We had a fantastic painter/contractor until five years ago - Mike S. at Balcones Painting in NW Austin. But, Mike moved, out-of-state. Mike's work still looks good from five to ten plus years ago - no "yellow" paint peeling on same bathroom cabinets, underneath "white" paint; outside deck made of plastic wood is in excellent shape, etc. Unfortunately, the painters that Mike recommended were booked, too far out - John @512-459-8481 and Robert @512-775-5569. And, our realtor's "fabulous, reasonably priced" painter, Eduardo @512-350-8997 was booked. We'll likely try one of them. read more

We used Tex painting for our entire home interior recently and couldn't have been more pleased. My husband, who used to work as a GC, is extremely picky and he didn't notice any issues at all. We used Yelp for our quotes and Tex came in lowest and fastest from the get go; it was barely two hours between the time the estimator arrived and they provided our quote. Our PM, Dan, was friendly, courteous, and extremely thorough in his analysis and verification of what we needed. There were no surprise or hidden costs. We did end up having to double-paint one ceiling- it was necessary and a great detail they noticed that I may have overlooked- but the extra cost related to that was very low. The painters were polite and extremely efficient, on time at every step, and used google translate to communicate with us when we had minor communication issues. They cleaned up from all painting and didn't leave a drop. We've moved from Austin but would highly recommend this team to anyone! read more

Crew worked tirelessly to do the job right. All necessary repairs were address professionally and the prep work made for a flawless paint job, even pulled all of the staples and nails and puttied the holes. Crew was always here right around 8am and often worked past 8pm, a truly dedicated group of painters. Even came on days with questionable weather to get the job done as quickly as possible around the weathers schedule while maintaining a high level focus on quality. Great job from the initial walk of the job to the final walk upon finishing. Excellent cleanup after the job as if they were never here and magically our house was like new again. I know most people have had a good experience with them, but I didn't. Dan came out to give a bid. I waited and waited. Nearly a month later when I tried to follow up, he replied, by email, "We don't think we'd be a good fit for your project." I replied that it would have been fine had he told me that up front, but if was going to waste a month of my time like that, then I'd like to know exactly why he was declining to bid the job. He didn't reply. I sent a few text messages and emails trying to follow up and get an answer, but I never heard back from him. I got CertaPro painters to do my exterior job, and you can see the 4-star review I left them elsewhere. ---------------------- UPDATE: The owner of the company (Scott) called me and apologized profusely. (He said he talked to Dan, and Dan said that he lost two crews and didn't think he'd be able to fit my job into the schedule, so Scott asked Dan why he didn't just tell me that, and Dan didn't really have an answer.) However, Scott then undermined his apology by offering me a Home Depot gift card if I'd remove the review or upgrade my rating. (I declined, of course.) That kind of bribery undermines the trustworthiness of Yelp reviews. It makes me wonder if the reason there are so few 1- and 2-star reviews for Tex Painting is that he bought the reviewers off. read more

I found Tex Painting through Yelp. At 4-1/2 stars and many reviewers, I thought I'd get a good deal and a good paint job. I am pleased with the result. Unfortunately, the process could have been better. I worked with George, the project manager, to resolve the problems I encountered. He was very accommodating and I could tell that his goal was my complete satisfaction. Ultimately, we got there, but I would have given 5 stars instead of 4 if there hadn't been any problems in the first place. Here's my story: I needed the outside of my house painted. It had been about 25 years since the exterior had been done, but I guess that since I didn't wait the full 30 years that my paint manufacturer recommended, I had very little repair work/wood replacement to be done. Two men came out to do the painting. One spoke English and one did not. I don't care who speaks English as long as we can communicate about what is being done and what needs to be done, but the guy who did the majority of the work did not speak English, which meant that all of my communications were being translated by the guy who did very little work but spent most of his day on the phone. At about mid-morning on the first day they power washed the house. That took a couple of hours. By mid afternoon they were already spraying the house. I was quite surprised, because no prep was done. The result was that I had to be my own inspector, reviewing their work every day and pointing out what needed to be done (caulking, filling holes, repainting trim edges because of carelessness, painting areas that were missed, etc.). The lazy painter painted my trim. I think he used a paint brush from the dollar store. And up close it looks like the paint was too thick. There are paint stroke marks on everything. I would tell Lazy Painter what needed to be done, he'd tell me they had done everything, and then I'd come out and find that it had not all been done. After a couple of days of this, I called George. He came out and walked around the house while I pointed everything out. I finally made a list, like a new house punch list. George gave the list to Lazy Painter, who did some things & then called George to tell him he was finished. Once again I had to go out with the list and walk the area to point out the things still not done. Eventually, everything on the list got done, but in the process, some of the base color (a sandy kind of color) got sprayed on part of the house and the painters had not carefully covered my new front door (black). So that created a new issue: my front door had to be repainted. So, when these two sloppy painters started creating new issues, George sent out a more experienced painter with a much better work ethic. He also wanted me to be satisfied with the quality of his work. So, he cleaned up the sloppy mess left by the first two guys, which included their debris. So, that left my front door. Because it was brand new and I had paid for factory painting, I requested that the door be sprayed and not painted with a roller. I told George the door had to be removed from the hinges and that the knob and lock had to be removed before the door was painted. George sent someone new. He removed the door from the hinges as requested, and removed the knob and handle. He also taped the glass . . . but he decided to paint on a windy day even though I raised the question before he began. Bad decision. The wind brought small pieces of debris up onto the fresh paint, and of course, it dried there. Also, when he removed the tape, he pulled off two layers of paint in a small area, including the manufacturer's paint. So then I had a door that was worse off than before and I was afraid I'd have an uneven finish. Once again George stepped in. He had the door removed and taken to an offsite location. I asked him to inspect the door before it was returned, because I didn't want any more frustrations, and he did. When the door arrived it was perfect. It was as smooth as a baby's bottom and looks great. Eventually, after nearly a month, everything was done to my satisfaction. The trim (back door and shutters) will never have the smooth clean finish I wanted, but I had to put that in a bubble and let it float away. The house looks great from the street and that's all most people will ever notice. And even up close everything else looks great. My front door in particular. Through all of this I learned that the first two painters were new to TexPainting, & now, thankfully for future TexPainting customers, they no longer work there. So . . . my advice to others would be to go ahead and call TexPainting. They'll give you a great price, but be sure you ask for one of their best painters. If I have any more painting work to be done I'll call them again, but I will be a much more experienced customer and I will ask for the best and settle only for perfection. read more

I have been slowly renovating a place over three years. The first company I hired to remove the popcorn ceiling was Tex Painting. They were up-front, professional, fast, and fairly priced. That experience was a 10. Fast forward two years and I have worked with about 4 other companies on other projects. Most of them were bad experiences. One bathroom paint job was so bad that I had to look for someone else to redo it. I remembered that Tex Painting did good work years before and I called them. The estimate they gave me was much less than the other two estimates. They could also do the work quickly. They did an excellent job and were just as professional as before. Another 10 for Tex Painting. What wowed me the most was that two years later the person that came to give me the estimate and the project manager were both the same people I worked with before. I hired Tex Painting for exterior painting of our house. I got two other quotes and their quote was the most competitive. I like doing my homework but if you are busy, I don't think it is necessary to get a second quote, because their quote is fair and competitive. After getting a quote from Barry, Scott (the owner) handled most logistics, getting the requirements from me. I asked Scott whether he can bring some sample paints for me to try the colors out. Though such color trial was not included in the quote, he was glad to to pick up sample pains from Sherwin Williams. I ended up picking a color from BEHR. Because home depot was not able to find the exact recipe, Scott had to match the color. He did a very good job making sure the color was the exact color that I wanted and I could not tell the difference after all. Scott and the crews offered to paint some trims at no cost. After painting the back of the house, we noticed that it would be much nicer if some of the trims were painted in white to give more definitions. So I asked Scott, and he offered to do the job at no cost. Due to some miscommunication, we also had to repaint the ceiling of my porch. Scott and his crews went out of the way to accommodate my request and I thank them! TexPainting crews are quiet and efficient. Javier does an excellent job. Scott's professionalism is outstanding ---he is super-responsive and super clear. Especially, when I was doing an inspection with him, I was pleasantly surprised that he noticed some imperfect jobs himself and voluntarily put the blue tapes on them, so that his crews can take care of the job later. I cannot warn people enough about this company. After seeing all of the great reviews and going onto the BBB site, I decided to pay about $7,000 more than the next closest bid because of their reputation. Without naming names, we had an incompetent project manager for this job. Electrical plates, hardware, mirror, lanturn glass, dog door and more were missing or broken. Instead of keeping the hardware in separate bags for each room, they threw it all in a bucket and then couldn't figure out what went where and many items were lost or broken. I even found hardware that they threw into the garbage! Then they tried to replace the items with the cheapest quality possible. There were many places where they failed to paint at all, or sprayed poorly with low coverage - mostly because they were not paying attention. The work they did do was clean after pointing out the issues. It took them more than 2 weeks to do the interior/exterior of a 2300 sq foot house that was completely empty. They usually showed up between 10-2 with only 1-2 guys. The project manager had every excuse in the book as to why there were missing parts, broken parts, short staffed, late every day. I eventually had to have the owner of Tex Painting come out. He didn't seem to grasp the extent of the ongoing problems, but tried to be understanding. When I pointed out areas that were done poorly, he said "well who really sees that?" and the project manager said "we aren't painting the door because the new people will probably replace it anyways!" WHAT????? They gave me a discount of $1,000 for my troubles, but it hardly compensated for the troubles and delays that it caused me and the other contractors trying to get my house ready for sale. I was later told by a rep with the company that the project manager for my job was brand new. Had I not been there to manage this project from start to finish I can't imagine what it would look like. I spent a great amount of time cleaning up after them, scrubbing spots from the floor, replacing lost items, doing paint touch up, and having to reinstall light and electrial fixtures. Not to mention, I had to reschedule the other contractors and delay the sale of my house. Such a horrible experience. I can't warn people enough. I have a feeling it was mostly a project manager issue...so be careful who they give you for your project. read more

George gave me a very good price on removing the popcorn ceiling and painting the whole house. They came in on time and did a decent job. However, I did have a few problems - George was not very thorough in the initial quote. So, when it came to things like painting the vents or wanting more than 1 color, I had to go back to him and rediscuss - Communication was hard. The main person on-site did not speak english and George seemed to be too busy to pay much attention to the work done - The painting took longer than expected, so they tried to hurry up. In the process, they missed some stuff that I had to point out and ask them to come back. They also did not clean up behind themselves. Overall, the popcorn removal and painting was well done. But communication was poor and the people did not do a good job of finishing at the end. read more
