The cruel march of time and the vengeance of Mother Nature had led to numerous pieces of rotting trim, a plug-ugly dilapidated chimney, and grimy green siding. A coworker referred me to Gabriel from Hero Painting. Gabriel came out quickly to meet me and scope the job. I originally wanted just the damaged trim replaced and painted. His pricing was so good that I ended up getting multiple pieces of trim fixed, my entire exterior pressure-washed and completely repainted, and various openings and vents completely recaulked. My wife and I had purchased a home in Feb 2012. Before moving in, we decided to save the money and paint ourselves. The closer the closing date came, the bigger than project seemed for just two people. With only a couple of weeks before closing, we decided to see if we can get it professionally done (hoping that it wasn't too late). We called about 4 companies and had them come over and give estimates. Hero was one of those 4 and ended up being the cheapest (by far in some cases). Now that we had enough information to make a good decision, we started comparing. We immediately took the high priced one (ProTech) out of the picture. We liked the guy, but the estimate was way too much for us. In all honesty we almost decided not to go with Hero because they were the cheapest of the 4. Now understand that this decision was only based on my habits as a consumer. I usually abide by the "you get what you pay for" saying. However they were very courteous and professional so we kept them in. Ultimately, we decided on Hero because they were able to meet our scheduling requests with the little time we had before move-in day. Being our first big painting project, Gabriel was kind enough to educate us on the types of paint and his suggestions on our plans. We took his word on his suggestions and we were happy we did. We had 7 rooms painted with 8 different colors. Many of the wall corners were rounded and required a very fine vertical line where one color ended and another begin. All of these lines ended up beautiful in the end. Being a dude, I was a little worried about how 8 colors would end up looking (wife's idea), but the inside of our house completely puts the outside of it to shame. We also wanted to remove an unwanted shelf glued on to our closet walls. They removed it and after the paint dried, we can't even tell anything was there. Hero was very nice, customer friendly, and very professional. If we have another painting project, I will definitely call them up. I've read over the two negative comments given on this page and would like to respond to them. "Left message with no call back received" man: This is a ridiculous reason to give a 1 star rating. Technical problems could have prevented getting the message to the right people. It is foolish to tarnish a public company rating based completely on assumption. If you don't get a call back, try again some other time... common sense. "Nightmare experience" woman: She does a convincing job at making you feel uneasy about Hero. However, there are always two sides to a story. Gabriel's response sounds exactly like the Gabriel that we dealt with. Gabriel and his crew performed the following work: - finished two dry walls that were unfinished - removed popcorn from one of our bedroom ceilings - caulked the base boards and door trim we put up - patched holes in walls - primed and textured walls and ceilings - painted walls,ceilings, baseboards,and door casings They finished all of this in 2 days! Wow, what can I say about Gabriel, Jay and the crew except they are outstanding. Not only are they skilled carpenters, painters, sheetrock workers and handymen, but they are totally trustworthy, punctual and very friendly. What a nightmare and headache it was using this company. My finance' and I had called Hero Painting based off of amazing Yelp reviews. We needed a fresh coat of paint on the entire interior of our house. This is our first house, so we wanted one coat to give it a fresh, new feel. We also requested some drywall repair and cabinet refinishing. A man named Ruben Rivera came out to give us an estimate. Ruben was very courteous, and we hired him based on his detailed eye. We were informed that they would sand and caulk around all woodwork, match all paint exact, and that all the lines would be cut very nice. He also said our cabinets would be sanded and painted. He definitely cared about the customer more than the money. We didn't hire him based on the pricing, but because he was so detail-oriented. We trusted him SO much with our house. He viewed wall painting as an art form. I started searching online to see who this "Ruben" guy was after we hired him. All the Yelp reviews were talking about some guy named Gabriel? Turns out, Hero Painting has started contracting out their salesman jobs. Ruben does not formally work for Hero Painting. And apparently, the salesman (Ruben) and the owner (Gabriel) were NOT on the same page in terms of what a NICE paint job should look like. Their expectations were completely different. Ruben has a passion for nice quality art, while Gabriel seemed like he just wanted to get "in and out" as quickly as possible to obtain maximum profit. So on day one of painting (September 2012), Gabriel's paint crew shows up instead of Ruben's. Gabriel's paint crew has no idea what Ruben had told us or what expectations had been set. After a few days of Gabriel's crew painting our house, my fiancé' and I decided to stop by the house to see how the progress was coming along. We got there, and it looked like everyone had packed up and left us a half-ass job. We called the owner, Gabriel, and he said they were finished. Why didn't they call us to let us know? We were stunned that this is what they called "finished." They did not sand a thing. All woodwork was rough. The lines were a mess. Paint was in places paint does not belong. Paint was dripping. Paint was on our new hardwood floors. The paint on our ceiling was not even close to matching. Some rooms had residue of left over paint from a previous owner, which makes us wonder if they even painted every room we paid for. We also had dry wall repair done to the ceiling above our kitchen island. Needless to say, it looks like we had a massive water leak after they were finished. It looked worse after it was repaired. Ruben had told us the paint on the ceiling would match, but apparently Gabriel's crew disagreed and gave us mismatching paint anyway. (I have pictures.) After walking through the house, it looked like a disaster. Gabriel's crew had to come back out the next day to redo everything. But instead of REDOING everything like they should've, they sanded OVER the painting they already applied, leaving us with a sandy mess and a dull look. They somehow lost one of the shelves to our kitchen cabinets. They left paint all over our back deck. They left all their trash in our garage to pick up. After running around with these guys trying to get the paint job we paid for, the crew finally left and said they were not coming back. They abandoned us. Gabriel said the crew was not coming back and that we needed to settle the contract. While getting a huge attitude with us, he gave us nothing but the second-degree on having "too high of expectations" because of what Ruben set for us. With the condition the house was left in, we were not going to pay the full remaining balance. Gabriel DID give us a hefty discount due to this (thank God because we were supposed to be moved in weeks ago, but they put us on halt). He also had a cleaning person come out to get rid of the mess his crew left us with. He also said he rinsed off our back deck for us, but there is still paint there to this day. But that money we saved went rightback to Ruben Rivera to FIX EVERYTHING WE PAID FOR. Ruben came back with HIS COMPANY (Always Painting) and did a FABULOUS job!! They fixed the errors that Hero Painting said "could not be fixed." Our house now looks like a million bucks thanks to him. I wish I had known from the start that Ruben was with a different company. I would have given him my business personally right away before ever throwing it at Hero Painting. Gabriel with Hero Painting said sanding, caulking, and this type of detail is not common for a paint job. Well he must've lied, because Ruben came in and did everything he said he COULD and WOULD do. Summary: I really liked these guys, they were priced well, on-time, reliable and very helpful. They made a couple big mistakes, but they fixed them right away when I complained. I will hire them again, definitely. Long version: I really like these guys. It was an exterior paint job. The estimate was thorough and solid (he guaranteed that price if nothing changed in what I needed), he showed up on time and was very nice and listened to me well. And it was a good price. The painters showed up on schedule and got done on time. And they went to the store to get me samples of paint and put them up on little patches of the eaves so I could see what they looked like and pick one (no extra charge). They even let me change my mind about the color of some of the doors (I was using two colors) after they'd finished them already, also with no extra charge. They also entirely replaced one door-height shutter without charging me. There was a little wood rot at the very bottom, where the sprinklers hit it, and he said he could fix that no problem. But when they tried to take that one piece off, the whole thing fell apart. So they took it all down and replaced the whole thing with a new one without any hassle at all, and at no charge. So why am I not giving them five stars? Because they did mess some stuff up, and I had to call them and have them come out to fix it. They responded right away, and fixed it very well, but it seemed like some pretty basic stuff for any painters, much less professional ones. Most noticeably, they painted most of the doors without ever opening them. So not only were they pretty well sealed shut, and you had to tear the paint to open them, but the edges, where the door-sill covers them by about 1/2 an inch, were left unpainted. Also they painted every single window shut, so again the paint had to be damaged to open them. And there were a lot of big paint drips left on the cement walk and back patio (purple, very hard to miss). And they missed painting one spot on the eaves (small, but in front). When I called to complain however, they sent over a very competent guy who fixed everything (including razoring open the windows) quickly and smoothly. There was no argument, no hassle, and they were there right away. Honestly, if the mistakes had been a little smaller, and not things that any painter really ought to know better than to do, I'd give these guys five stars. They were excellent in most ways, and well priced. But they weren't perfect. I would hire them again though, and that says a lot I think. read more

I text my name and the problems I was having, sent photos. Within 15 minutes Gabriel responded and gave me a very good quote. His guy Rene, came right when he said he would. Now, after a shotty job from a different company, I was going to be very nitpicky! Rene actually had to cut out the other contractors work and patch those as well as some other holes. He was quick, very professional and made sure to put plastic down everywhere prior to any work being done. I even added a few spots not talked about with Gabriel, Rene took care of those and when it came time to pay, Gabriel stuck to his original quote! As far as the blending went with the patching, just phenomenal! I am very picky and even without fresh paint yet, the patches are super blended in. I couldn't believe it after my last guy. I am in the construction industry myself and know what quality work is. These guys give it to you! I was so impressed, I tipped both guys for their quality. They just finished up our house and did a GREAT job !! Gabriel was easy to work with and communicates well. The color we'd picked actually came from a palette from a company that's a "non professional" grade paint but he matched that so he could use Sherwin Williams and we got exactly what we wanted.
