Incredibly unprofessional behavior from Dr. Lane and I would not recommend him for anything! Would of given him a ZERO if allowed! I was doing a follow up from my second cataract lens replacement and brought my len replacement card from the surgery and ask if it showed that I had gotten a torc lens as I had requested and he said no. Then he started trying to say they did something different without even looking up my records. Just kind of throwing stuff at the wall to see if it would stick. I wasn't buying it and he knew it, I said the doctor never discuss anything other procedure with me, at which point he got visibly mad. I noticed his hands shaking and told him he needed to chill out and he said I was being rude, so I said you need to calm down and he said well you started it! I mean I am speaking to a ten year old or what. I think this man is liability to Texan Eye he does not have the right kind of people skills and is way too thin skinned to work with the public! read more

Customer service of front desk staff is appalling. Remember TEC, your front desk person is the first interaction clients have. You want to get that right. Also, I spent less than 5 minutes with the doctor after waiting 2+ hours to find out they had to dilate my eyes again. The wait continued. They overbook to have people just wait. Never again. My review seems to be similar to others... rude staff and scheduling is crazy! Doctor was incredibly nice but hard to not overlook all the other BS. Wait is way too long and all for nothing. If I had anywhere else to go and I was willing to start all over for care of a precancerous lesion in my eye, I would do it. I am sick of dealing with their layers of message takers. Twice now the doctor's assistant has called me because, she was confused about the pharmacy or the medication. I am supposed to get this untangled? This last road block was May 18 when I called and gave them all the pertinent information for a pharmacy in my network. On May 26 (8 days later) the assistant called the say that she was confused about what pharmacy I'm going to and why are they asking about an oral medication rather than an eye drop. I am supposed to know? I've called several times and left more messages, with no answers from the from the doctor's office. I have 2 business days left to try to get this untangled. I was supposed to start the medication again June 1st. I don't believe this is going to be possible. I am frustrated, angry and frightened with no way to fix things on my own except, keep calling. I am leaving this warning to future patients. Be prepared to advocate for yourself and keep advocating. Take nothing for granted, like that your message will be taken care of correctly or in a timely manner. read more

Wayne was very welcoming and respectful when I brought a patient with disabilities to get a glasses prescription filled. He handled every unusual aspect of the situation in a friendly way. Dr. Ung is amazing! I moved froM San Antonio and was super nervous to give someone new a tRy. Dr. Ung was very patient, respectful, knowledgeable and provided amazing customer service. She was very thorough and ordered foR my file to be sent over just so she could make sure we picked up where I left off. She gave me a personal call when she received my records which made it even better. I proceeded to the Optical where I tried on a few glasses. I will definitely be back when I'm ready to purchase aS the selection of eyewear was appealing and the overall service Was outstanding. It was nice to visit a place in a new city where the people I encountered appreciate their job. read more

While this doesn't change my view of Texan Eye all that much, I felt it was fair to add this update. My most recent headache, which I get is a FWP, was getting my records sent to my new eye dr after moving. I had mailed a release form to Texan Eye the last week of August and they had still not arrived as of September 15th. I called to follow up and left a voicemail for their records department. I had resigned myself to sending them another form via fax, then giving up and starting over with my new doc. Then this morning I received a sweet email from Dr. Monheit's personal address, letting me know she was told of the issue with my records and that it had been taken care of, and wished me well. So, I don't know who dropped the ball, and it doesn't matter. At least my records are on their way. Texan Eye is a factory, and you may or may not get a good doc. But I will say Dr. Monheit is a great doctor. read more

I went to get an overall eye exam. Awful treatment: - Assistant takes notes about my condition, walks out and says the Dr will come back in shortly. The doctor comes in 25 min later. - Dr comes in, does a couple of checks desperately. Asks a few questions and interrupts in the middle of my response. - Dr gives me eye dilating drops with a single hand, drips the yellow fluid all over my shirt and walks out for 30 min without a single word. - At the shop I am pushed to buy super expensive glasses that I've paid and haven't still got my hands on (1 month and counting). read more

I was sent to Texan Eye for cataract surgery. While the surgeon I utilized appears to have done her best. The surgery could not be completed with 100% success. That however is not the issue. They run the practice like a mill. Further, they split the surgery into the eye practice and the surgery. I believe this is done to hide how and what the charge. Instead of looking at my insurance and billing based on the insurance, I was forced to pay a "standard" rate. This rate was far in excess of what my insurance covered. When they discovered the differential they tried to hide it. When we called to ask about the issue, they said that they call me back and never did. We were forced to file a complain with our CC company to get their attention. We did receive any attention from them and then we could speak to no one, but received a series of nasty mails from them. Further, and possibly the worst is that they charged my insurance company for work that was not performed. They doctors may in fact be ok, but the practice itself is shoddy. read more

Dr Sargent did my cataract lens implant and after a few years I'm going back to see Dr Aschenbeck for fix a "cloudy" left eye and possibly to a lens replacement. I still need Readers but would like to do away with them. read more

It comes down to how much hand-holding you need with an MD: They must see over five-hundred patients a day here, and there's a fine line between client & cog when you practice in-&-out assembly line medicine. On the other hand, my $40 co-pay got me a thorough eye exam, and then seven minutes of serious consultation with an ophthalmologist. I don't believe we even introduced ourselves. But I was here for a specific diagnosis, and I got what I needed. A-OK by me. I feel the need to disclose my previous Texan Eye visits were at the South Mopac office, maybe a little less crowded and a little more consult time. But my MD there has left the practice. This Texan Eye on Balcones is definitely bigger, closer, and saved me some travel time - six of one, half-dozen of another. They did have to special order a trial set of lenses, so we'll see what happens when they get here, like if there's an additional fee. I usually take a new prescription & shop elsewhere. But we'll see. At least for the moment, when I still can see. read more

I find everyone at Texan Eye to be very incredibly friendly. They have accommodated last minute rescheduling, which I appreciate. This is the trade off for the incredibly long wait times. When I went in for my regular exam, the doctor found a hole in my retina, so since then I have been seeing retina specialist, Dr. Cecila Sanchez. Dr. Sanchez lasered the hole up, and was very patient and reassuring while I almost had a mild panic attack at the prospect of possibly going blind. I think she looks like the daughter Alex from Modern Family, but I can't be sure because I've only seen her with my contacts out and eyes dilated. Regardless, she is fantastic. Bring a book and a scarf, because most of my appointments end up taking a couple hours and the upstairs waiting area is always freezing. read more

Went in to fill a glasses prescription and the woman (Raqel I think her name was) helping me was just rude and acted highly annoyed that she had to help me or answer any questions. I'm older but new to glasses so I have a lot of questions. I guess that's too much to ask so I went elsewhere and got much better service and a better price. I wouldn't waste my time with this place. The reviews on this site are pretty accurate. I'm sorry I did not read them before going on my opthamologist's recommendation. When I went in for my consult at the Balcones location for cataract surgery I was told the next step was to set up a pre-op appointment with their Far West surgery center. That was when the rudeness and nastiness started. When I could not get through and after numerous routings through robots and voicemails, I asked the operator to connect me to someone who could help me. She told me she would put me back through to the voicemail and when I asked her name she hung up on me. when I got a communications manager, Kim, she was helpful but put me back through to a scheduling supervisor who told me it would be more than a month before I could get in and a month and a half before they could do surgery. When I asked to be reconnected to the communications supervisor, she got sarcastic and told me Kim was not the one who could help me. I told her I would call Kim to find out what my options were on my own if she did not want to reconnect me. Apparently these people are running an eye-surgery mill and are so busy they don't have time to deal with human beings reasonably if you don't fit into the slots in their mill. I do not care to do business with a company that is too busy to recognize that their customers are the ones that keep them in business. read more

I've never written a yelp review before. I signed up to warn people about my care here. The staff and nurse/technician was very friendly and helpful, but the opthamologist I saw was ridiculous. I've never had such unprofessional care from him. He walks in, and immediately starts ranting at me about controversial political issues. WHAT? It's 10 in the morning and you want a debate?? After re-directing the conversation to my eyes, he starts regular small talk while examining. Then, topics range from: how rich his son is, what poor choices I have made in my college career (all I did was tell him I didn't know what kind of job I wanted yet), and his CRAAAZY weekend in Las Vegas the week prior. Then, he declares there's nothing wrong with my eyes. I point out the obvious red painful spots on them, in order to indicate there are indeed problems with my eyes. He says, "What? How did you notice those? I didn't even see those!! Yeah, we should get you some medicine." Yes, yes we should. That's why I'm here. For the medicine. As he's writing my prescription, he makes sure to complain that he usually has an assistant to write it, and how he feels like it's beneath him to fill out the forms himself. And complains, and complains, for the next 10 minutes it took him to fill out the one form. Then he leaves, and doesn't give me my glasses back so I have to feel around for them on his desk. I have no idea who lets this guy see patients but this was the strangest and worst experience with a doctor I've ever had. I would rate him negative stars if I could. Please don't go here. read more

I have been a long-time patient with having done lasik over 10 years ago which was very costly so it's not like I haven't given them good business. Was quoted a price for a routine eye exam over the phone by the business office. At checkout, the price was around $50 higher. After I balked, they wanted to know who in the business office said this... I couldn't remember the women's name that I talked with unfortunately. They called the business office and no one fessed-up. They then had to run it by the doctor after I stood my ground. That took another 15 minutes while I'm awkwardly standing at the front desk the whole time. Lastly, they told me that they would do it for X amount. It was still $7 higher than what I was quoted!! I was not expecting good service, based on the many negative reviews, but Texan Eye has the only ophthalmologists on my current insurance plan, so here I went! New patient, first visit. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The paperwork was kind of repetitive... My wait was reasonable (about 15 min after my appt time, in the middle of a week day). The tech was friendly and efficient. Dr. Yen Nieman was also friendly/efficient and did not try to rush out when I had questions afterwards. She said my prescription hadn't changed much, though it looks quite different written down than my last one. Guess I'll find out when my new glasses come in. read more

I have been bringing my mother to her follow up appointments and the wait times are HORRIBLE!! They are never on time and we have been here no less than 2 hours for each follow up appointment. I do not understand the consistent lack of being on time. I can understand one time. But my mother's initial consultation was over 3 hours because they had an emergency. She had a 9a appointment today and we arrived 15 mins early. It is 10:46a and we are still waiting for her to see the doctor. No doctor can be worth this kind of rude and inefficient handling of their schedule. It is, unfortunately, a consistent experience for us. read more

Traveling in Austin...THRILLED with customer service at Texan Eye. 1. Got to Austin without replacement daily contacts for my daughter (mail delivery very slow in December) 2. Didn't want to buy another expensive 3-6 month supply right before Christmas. 3. Walked in Texan Eye, explained dilemma.... They immediately & courteously offered us a MUCH LESS EXPENSIVE option to get us through until we return home. Wow....they didn't have to go to the effort they were willing to to help us devise a solution. I cannot emphasize enough how friendly and gracious everyone at the front desk and the optometry department was. We brought the wrong prescription, and they happily helped us fax our own dr for correct documents I only wish I had taken down names of the lovely people who helped us. Not the easiest thing during a busy, hectic holiday season. You guys are worth the 10 minutes I invested in this review....I downloaded the Yelp app just to give you 5 stars. I made an appointment for a general eye exam. When I called I am likely to have asked if they treated glaucoma, cataracts, etc, and if they do fundus photography, as well as my diabetic retina exam, if it wasn't clear from teh web site, as most places I called in fact only treat retina disorders or only treat glaucoma. I expected my eyeglass exam as well; I've never seen any eye doctor except a glaucoma specialist and not gotten a prescription for my glasses. When I arrived to the appointment I was quickly taken through the beginning of a series of tests with little explanation of what the tests were or the purpose. When I questioned what was going on they had me wait to talk to a different assistant. The assistant told me I have a referral from my doctor for glaucoma exam so I was seeing a glaucoma specialist. I didn't have a referral from my doctor, and if I had it wouldn't be for a glaucoma exam. It seems I had been scheduled by mistake by the customer service agent in a call center who scheduled the appointment, to see a glaucoma expert. Certainly when whatever brain glitch caused the csr to schedule a glaucoma specialist, that person did not verify it with me. Actually, they told me I'd be seeing Julia Sargent, a cataract surgeon, and as I recall that was fine with me since my most pressing concern is my cataracts, but I was never told I wouldn't get my general eye exam. Then I think I was indeed to see Julia Sargent, but she had morphed into a "glaucoma specialist", and I was to have "a glaucoma consult". At one point I was told she is a cataract surgeon, but I was still to have a glaucoma consult and that was all she could do for me. (What they could actually do for me changed repeatedly from one point to the next, but it was never the general eye exam with eyeglass prescription that I made the appointment for.) After a prolonged and condescending argument during which a technician stood over me and repeatedly tried to rush me along, I was told the glaucoma specialist could either do a general eye exam but not do whatever specialized tests such as for glaucoma might be called for, or do the glaucoma exam; not both. I demanded to see the office manager. At first they told me that wouldn't be possible as she was busy and they had no way to know when she would be free . Finally I was shown into the office of an overweight and not very bright nor very professionally dressed looking woman. She assured me that I must have told the customer service agent some reason to think I wanted to see a glaucoma specialist, though I never did and certainly the csr never asked nor verified what I wanted. Finally I was told I could have EITHER a GENERAL exam with NO specialized test, OR a specialized glaucoma exam. In any case I couldn't have my eyeglasses exam at the same appointment as they couldn't bill my insurance for both at once. At all stages of this I was told that neither the optometrist nor a general opthamologist was in the building at the time, and the general opthamologist would next be in the building in two weeks. I demanded the care I made the appointment for, and when I didn't get it, I turned around, walked out of the office manager's office and out of the building, with the technician calling "Have a good day" behind me. Texan Eye is one of a chain of several huge buildings. Obviously they have an extremely small staff and do not even have the capacity to do general eye care on a routine basis. I have been nearsighted for fifty-three years, and have had my own insurance on and off for 16 years in Texas. The only time I have ever been examined only for glaucoma, I was referred by an optometrist who had done hte general eye exam for suspect glaucoma, sought out a glaucoma specialist, made an appointment for that problem and was examined and tested for that problem. Another time I was referred as part of some community program for a diabetic eye exam to a retina specialist and all he would look at was my retina. Every other time I have gotten an eye exam, I got a COMPLETE eye exam. Last year, with exactly the same insurance, I saw a general opthamologist, got a general eye exam, discussion (if fuzzy) about cataracts, specific advanced testing for glaucoma, AND my eyeglasses prescription. The notion that they couldn't bill my insurance for my eyeglass appointment and a general eye exam not only makes no logical sense, it's clearly balderdash. In short, I don't recommend this place to ANYONE. It is sloppily and unprofessionally run, the people are rude and brusque, and the standard of care is ridiculous. They don't have the staff to support what is externally set up to look like a large operation. I further suspect that they artificially set up different eye care functions into several visits with several providers in order to triple your bill and their collections from your health insurance. read more

I wasn't there for the appointment and wasn't contacted about owing anything ever. The only reason I discovered there was a collection opened on me from them was from checking my credit score. The only reason I put up with the terrible scheduling staff here is because I think my doctor is worth it. But dealing with the office staff is a nightmare every time. Every time I call they don't have my chart, can't access my chart and need to call me back. Ask a question, they don't have an answer. And god forbid you need glasses or contact lenses (crazy for an eye doctor, I know!) because the communication/coordination between the glasses/lenses department is nil, even though they are about 10 feet away from one another. What I like about Texan Eye is that the doctors are highly invested in caring for our eyes. Dr. Sargent sent me to Dr. Keeland who found that I had a large meningioma in my skull. Since then, Dr. Sanchez has beautifully treated an edema condition in my left eye and now Dr. Sanchez has done a fabulous cataract surgery on that same eyes with the right eye next week. Optometrist wrote down the wrong RX for me. Literally the RX for my Left and Right eye were reversed. Inconvenience that caused me to come back to get my exam and glasses redone. Total time it took me to get my final pair of glasses with the right RX was 4 weeks. Rookie mistake that annoyed me since I had to take off work again for them to get it right. I saw Dr. JEFFERY R. LANE for my contacts refitting appointment and had the WORST experience!!! He was so rude and curt and after we finished with my visit he announced the contacts I was wearing were perfect despite me not being able to see the 20/20 line clearly. No matter how many times I told him I couldn't read the line clearly he just nodded his head impatiently and told me there was nothing else he could do. The very next day I made an appointment with Lakeline Vision Center and had amazing service and was given a pair of contacts that I could see extremely well and clearly with. Dr Branch has difficulty with communicating with his patients. He is so busy trying to convince you he has done such a great job as a surgeon he doesn't listen to your concerns. Terrible communication prior to surgery and denial of culpability after surgery if you don't like your results. His ego is huge and he stomped out of my appointment with such an attitude. I haven't seen this behavior since I had a toddler. He told me that not having improved vision after cataracts surgery was my problem and I just needed to manage my expectations. I am told it is a bit understaffed, but they are trying to hire more people! The staff that is there is GREAT. I worked with Dr. Branch, who I liked, unlike the reviewer below. Matt who did my initial testing was great. Debi in eyeglasses is fantastic. I was also able to get an initial appointment right away. Now...if you want a smaller place that has good doctors, try Eye Institute of Austin on Shoal Creek. I like them to but they don't take my new insurance. They also tend to book appointments farther in advance than Texan Eye. But they have great doctors there. read more

I had a fantastic result with cataract surgery from Dr. Walters. I was concerned on my first visit because I had very high myopia and I worried my vision would just be OK after the surgery. Dr. Walters spent the time understanding my vision needs and he suggested mono-vision for the lens implants. The surgery was really smooth- just as described with a quick operation and then relaxing for the rest of the day. I immediately saw great and felt great. After both surgeries, I can see both near and distance at 20-15 without glasses or contacts. This is the first time in my life that I can see without correction. When I was 10 years old, I got my first pair of eyeglasses. On the way home from the eye doctors office I told my Mom..."Gosh Mom, I can see the leaves on the trees". Dr. Walters and his terrific team returned the leaves to the trees for me. Dr. Walters suggested Monovision for me and he was right...funny how that works! After being patients of Texan Eye for many years, we're done. A recent diagnosis of leukemia, chemo and then some eye changes caused our oncologist to ask us to see the opthamologist right away. We attempted to make an appointment explaining the situation. We were told that there were no appointments under any circumstance for months, despite numerous requests. Our oncologist assisted and we got an appointment with Dr. Julia Sargent within days. Then, as the assistant placed us in the exam room, I explained that my husband was undergoing chemotherapy and his white blood cell count was very low that day (making him very susceptible to infections) and I requested that they do a more thorough job of wiping down any equipment they would use. The assistant excused herself and shortly thereafter Dr. Sargent came in the room and asked, "What is the problem here?" I again explained the issue and was told by Dr. Sargent that she was sure it was fine and nothing else was needed. She walked out and said she'd be back. She returned and as the exam began she was dismissive and condescending. While I attempted to provide information suggested by the oncologist, Dr. Sargent curtly replied that, "she understood I was obsessive with his condition." As my husband explained the problems he was experiencing, she told us several times that it was not related to the eye and was something else. After looking into his eye, she stated that she was wrong and that he had hemorrhages in his eyes and they would cause exactly what he was describing. She then referred us to the retina specialist at Texas Eye the following afternoon. After reaching out to doctor friends, we were referred to Austin Retina Associates. They got us in immediately, each person we saw immediately re-wiped down the equipment when asked and donned a mask. We were treated with respect and dignity and felt confident about the medical advice we were given. The difference was huge. We won't be returning to Texas Eye nor Dr. Sargent. Perhaps, the retina specialist was highly qualified, but I'll never know. Dr. Sargent's demeanor and attitude was sufficient to ensure we will find qualified, competent, compassionate care somewhere else. Anywhere else but there! read more

I had cataract surgery with Dr. Walters in April 2018. Dr. Lane did the follow up exams. To be perfectly blunt, Dr. Lane is hands down the rudest and most arrogant doctor I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. His attitude towards me made me cry during my appointment with his condescending and arrogant behavior. I advised both Drs. repeatedly that I still could not see or read clearly after the surgery. Dr. Walters on the first follow up visit said there was still a bit of the cataract in my reading eye and did an in-office laser procedure and said my eye would be fine. Unfortunately that was not the case. I continued to have blurry vision. When I saw him again, he said my eyes were fine, which is basically calling me a liar. I still have blurring in my reading eye. I think they may have put in the wrong prescription. All Dr. Lane would do is give me a prescription for glasses. This is after I paid for the more expensive procedure so I would not have to wear glasses. A lesson in frustration and I still have issues with my eyes. The only reason I gave a rating of one star is because the support staff are friendly and helpful and the facility is nice. I do not recommend these doctors and will never go back to them. They do not listen and seem annoyed to have to interact with their patients. read more

Through a series of procedures to repair retina tears and a partially detached retina, I have made probably 12-15 visits to this office over the past 18 months. I have nothing but positive things to say about the manner and apparent skill of Drs. Loose and Sanchez. In fact, Dr Loose met me with 2 hrs notice on a Saturday when I called with the detached retina, and had me in surgery two hours after that. The reason I will not return to Texan Eye again is simply the mismanagement of that office. Today was the last straw for me when I waited 2 hrs at an 8:30 a.m. appt to see the doctor for a 5 minute follow up exam. This was not an anomaly. I always request early morning appts and don't believe I've ever waited less than an hour and 15 minutes to see a doctor. Overscheduling is a chronic issue at Texan Eye that reflects an insensitivity to patients' time and convenience exceeding anything I've experienced with other healthcare providers. I've politely pointed out my frustration there to no avail, so I have to decided to find a new provider. read more

I had a 12:15 appointment with Dr. Monheit and I arrived at 12:08. It was supposed to be a quick recheck so I didn't think I would be there long. The medical aspect is fine. However, the employee working in eyewear store is simply terrible. She is rude and unprofessional. I will not go back and would discourage others due simply to the individuals attitude. read more
