Wow, I wish I'd checked Yelp before making my appt here. As another posted said, if I could give less than 1 star I'd happily do it. Put a "-" in front of mine and it'll be accurate. When I originally called the woman was pretty rude. I mentioned a couple doctors I'd found I'd like to see, she says they're all busy. Okay, that's fine, but she then says she can give me an appt with the only guy in the office who has 2/5 stars (in the entire area) on my providers site. Uhh... I ask why, she says "I don't pay attention to those things". Yeah, that's not an answer. Anyway, I figure whatever, make the appt, hell it's just an eye exam. Went in this morning for a routine eye exam, made the appt for 10:30am so I'd be able to get in and out quickly, had another meeting at noon I couldn't make. I arrive 5 mins early, spend time filling out paperwork (it's an eye exam folks, c'mon) and then sit around for 20 mins waiting. 20 mins? At 10:30am?!? Get called up thinking it's for my appt but wait, nope, it's because they're having trouble finding my coverage (I have VSP through my employer, never had a problem with any other doctor validating it). Tell the woman this and she seems non-plussed. I then tell her that I can't sit around and wait if this is going to take an hour since I have a conflict. She tells me she can make me another appt... wait a second, shouldn't the first response be "the doctor's running a little behind, but I'll make sure he knows you're in a rush". I tell her if I leave I'm going to go somewhere else, she points at the door. I've never been to a doctor's office with worse service than this place. This place is a factory, unless you have to go here I'd recommend finding an office that doesn't hire personnel like the folks I encountered. Back in February I was interested in having Lasik eye surgery. Well I had my Lasik done and it was amazing, but I DID NOT come to Texan Eye. When I first called to get more information and schedule a consultation the front desk staff had no concept of customer service and was very rude. After I got off the phone I was so turned off with the way they treated a potential customer that I took my business else where. If I am about to drop several thousands of dollars for a life changing surgery, I don't want to be treated like I am buying a pack of toilet paper at Wal-Mart. read more

I have been coming to Texan Eye Care for about five years and I have decided I can do better. Each time I come, the front desk staff are disinterested and don't make eye contact or even look up from their computer screens when you approach. The whole place has a factory feel to it. I arrived at the appointment at 8am and didn't leave until well after 9. My total time with the technician: 10 minutes. Total time with the optometrist: 5 minutes. My doctor is polite but completely uninterested in whether I have any questions or concerns, although he always does ask me what my plans are for the weekend. That makes me feel special (sarcasm font). read more

Can I give less than a star? My elderly mother and I scheduled back to back appointments so we wouldn't have to make two trips. We ended waiting about 90 minutes past our appt time due to some surgical issue the dr had with another patient. So our spots were now late afternoon appts. We were not offered the opportunity of rescheduling, but sat alone trying to amuse ourselves. Dr Laura seemed rushed, harassed, and surprised that there were two appts on her schedule at that time of day. I'm very surprised that her attitude was so curt. It makes me suspect the quality of the prescription actually and I'm a little concerned about that. It's about 8 months later and I called to ask for a copy of my RX. They can't email it. It's fax, snail mail or walk in. What century are these guys living in??? Does anyone even own a fax any more? Not to be sulky, but it seems like a LASIK mill over there. Unless you're there to drop a zillion on eye surgery, they are really not interested in your business. I wish I'd read these reviews before I took my mom there. So this review is going to be based on an incident that happened this evening. Yesterday I called Texan Eye because I needed a refill on my Nevanac eye drops. Well I get a call this morning from a lady named Lynn asking me to call about the eye drops. So when I woke up I called back. I was told that they could not refill my prescription because it wasn't noted in my charts and I needed an appointment. I thought this is insane I have been on Nevanac for about a year now and I'm sure that that is written down in the notes in my chart. Plus I have an appointment next month. Dr. Dudek has told me that she is never going to take me off Nevanac. And from my last appointment(which was only a month ago) with them I even have it on paper what my current treatment is which of course is still Durezol and Nevanac eye drops. So the lady on the phone says she will have to ask her supervisor if they could refill the prescription because Dr.Dudek wasn't going to be back till Thursday and she said I would have to wait until Thursday till they could talk to her. So anyway she asks the supervisor and the supervisor tells her no. And I said so y'all are going to deny me treatment for my eyes that I need and she was like I'm sorry and I said this is not acceptable and y'all need to get Dr.Dudeck on the phone ASAP and ask her. Because I'm sure they had a way of contacting her. Well she went back to the supervisor and apparently they asked another Doctor if Nevanac would be recommended for me to take and the doc told them yes. So wait you ask another doctor that doesn't treat me or know my case but you can't get MY doctor on the phone that treats me and has me on the eye drops??? Only then would they call in my refill. Once I told her I had it written down on paper they were going to ask me to come way out there just to show them a freaking piece of paper. I said I live way south I am not coming way out North just to show y'all a piece of paper. This place is without a doubt INCOMPETENT! All your information is in your chart and all they have to do is look at it and they will see that. I told them I already have an appointment with Dudek and she asked me when and I said you are looking at my chart you should know this and finally she looked and saw when it's scheduled. All she had to do was go back to a month and she would see my treatment from my last appointment. These people are so freaking lazy. Then they ask you which pharmacy would you like it to be sent to. And I said all that information is in my chart, the phone numbers, and everything. What is the point in having you fill out all the paperwork they give you that includes which pharmacy you want your scrips sent to if they aren't even going to look in your chart. They are the ones that are supposed to type in all that info in the computer or have the papers in your chart so they can already know this lol. But at the same time I can't get mad at this place because half the time Dr.Dudek forgets to write stuff down in my chart or she writes it weirdly which complicates things. But I'm quite sure they could have looked at my history and saw how I have been on Nevanac for damn near a year. And the fact my visit before last should have my continued treatment plan. read more

I started using Dr. Julia Sargent in 1993 and have remained a loyal patient ever since. Dr. Sargent performed my first cataract and approximately a year later successfully performed the other eye. I have raved about the positive results ever since. I am 70 years old now and after her skillful surgeries, I still don't require contacts or glasses. I can honestly say that Dr. Sargent is one of the kindest and yet straight shooting doctors that I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for an optometrist. My eye exam experience was OK. They took my insurance and the exam was very complete. The negative started after the exam portion of my visit. I was offered a trial pair of contacts. So far so good. To get the trial pair of contacts they charge a $50 fitting fee. The fitting fee is supposed to be for their technician to make sure that the contacts fit you properly. This might be reasonable if the fitting technician actually did anything but they do nit get involved at the trial period. You are on your own there. Net - If you decide not to proceed with contacts - you paid $50 for the technician fitting fee for nothing. When asked to explain why they did this, I was told "This is policy". Nice. Overall - They did a decent job n the exam but I bet you could get a much better overall experience elsewhere read more

The only way to describe this place is fast food eye care. It's a rotating door to get people in and out as quickly as possible - seemingly without any regard for customer service. The Dr.'s seem overworked and hurried...never time to answer your questions. The wait is awful! Plan on waiting for at least 20mins after your appointment time...sometimes more. Then once you get to the exam room, and after the tech has examined you, plan on waiting another 20mins before you actually get to see a Dr. My final decision to not come here again was at my last appointment. I specifically asked not to have my eyes dilated, because I needed to return to work. The Dr. talked to down to me, told me I had to have my eyes dilated, dilated my eyes, and then made me feel like I had been a complete waste of his time. read more

I should've realized when I had my appointment that I was not in a good situation. I went to this doctor because this place took my insurance after going to another doctor for over 25 years. The doctor barely spoke to me didn't give me a lot of explanation on anything. I mentally took a little note on that thinking well just give it a try and they are right down the street from me. The first thing they did was try to charge me more than my co-pay and after two talks with my insurance company and two conversations with them they finally realized they were only supposed to charge me $30. I would've paid more than I was supposed to had I not been persistent insisting that I had a small co-pay. This was after I had already chosen glasses. I had to pay for the glasses in full and I expressed at the time that I thought the glasses were too small for me. The woman who fits you for glasses has no personality she really doesn't care, she doesn't listen and she wants to tell you what to do instead of hearing any concerns you might have. It's a rushed situation. It was a disconcerting experience when I tried to talk to her again about how I felt about the glasses. I still thought they were too small for my face and my eyes. She kept telling me that I would get used to it. Without going any further I will say that I will never come here again. My experience was all around very poor for customer service, eye care and help with glasses selection. I have never heard of any place including the place I went for 25 years that wouldn't take back the glasses and redo them for you or have you pick another style if you chose to do that. I can see now looking at the reviews on yelp that the reviews were poor and I should've looked at them first. They are entirely consistent with one another. Expensive lesson learned. read more

I love Dr. Walters! He did a wonderful job on my LASIK after I was told by another doctor that I wasn't a candidate. My LASIK went perfectly and he was kind and attentive. I highly recommend him. I only give 4 stars because Texan Eye is soooo crowded all the time and you almost feel like cattle being herded in and out. They majorly overbook. But it's worth it to have such a wonderful doctor. read more

Don't visit. I've visited several office but can't understand why wait for 2 more hours to see Dr. Please check and find other. I see all elders around and looks like not the place for normal routine eye exam for glass and contact lense. Try to avoid if possible. Waiting and waiting. No excuse. read more

HORRIBLE customer service if you want to buy glasses. They made me and another customer call our insurance to "de-authorize" some sort of hold eye doctor had submitted when my eyes were examined. Then they suggested I call the insurance myself, 45 mins later insurance company tells me that while they have had me on hold they have been trying to call the store and they told them I wasn't there. Both the insurance company and my eye doctor asked me why they were having me call them and that the facility could go online and de-authorize it themselves (heard the other lady telling them the same thing). All a big waste of time. The two girls working there sitting on their butts doing nothing but staring at you while you are on the phone doing their job for them. I left and told Tyne girl why I was upset and she said very pissy "okayyyyy". read more

Texas Eye is just a factory and you are treated like a jam jar on an assembly line. The staff are at best plastic but often rude and provide conflicting information. The staff botched my cataract surgery and the Dr didn't even take the time to review my chart so she had no clue why I was there. The Drs job there is obviously to get you out and bill insurance companies and Medicare as much as they can. read more

I like everyone I have had contact with at Texan Eye except Dr. Lane. He is incredibly rude and condescending and so far, I cannot see out of the contacts he has ordered for me. It is very unfortunate that he is the only Dr. at Texan Eye that can fit hard contacts. Several of the doctors here are great, but the service is insanely bad. It's not actually possible to get a human being on the phone. If I get manage to score a live human after waiting in caller hell for *30 minutes,* slowly progressing from "you are the 8th caller" to 7th caller, and finally next caller, what the human being does is transfer me to VOICE MAIL. Don't try to order contacts. It's not possible. I spend 30 minutes of my lunch break, hungry, on hold, to end up in voice mail with the contact lens department. They call me back, but they can't get me, so they leave a message. I call them back, and I can't actually speak to anyone, ever. It's been like this now for 3 weeks. And yet you can't get your prescription out of them to order contacts anywhere else. Aggravating, massive, ripoff waste of time. My doctor is fabulous. I will not give her name, because she is great, but this practice is terrible. I would rather call the IRS than have to call these people. I'd rather wait in line at the DMV, be sent home for documents, and have to come back and start all over, than ever call this practice. This practice does enough Lasik surgery and has enough specialists you'd think they'd have the money to pay for a legit phone system, or four more humans, or whatever combination is needed to actually provide service. Clearly, that is not the priority. Either the managing partners are unaware, or don't care, or something. Wake up, management. Get legit. Please. read more

I recently had LASIK surgery that Dr. Walters performed. I am so happy that I had this surgery and didn't wait any longer. The recovery time was less than a day and now my eye sight if perfect and I had no complications after the surgery. Dr. Walters was nice, but his colleague, Dr. Ung, really stood out; she is wonderful!!! She was very friendly and helpful during my follow up exam. She was running about 15 minutes behind (which I normally expect from any doctor's office) but she was very apologetic and seemed genuinely sorry for having me wait (which I wasn't even bothered by to begin with). Dr. Ung really stood out in my mind with her exceptional 'bed side manner'. I hope she is my doc for my 1 yr. follow up. read more

Things have not changed here. I was referred to Texan Eye by my regular optometrists to get a glaucoma screening. It is not a long or difficult test, but requires specialized equipment. I was very clear both when I made the appointment and when I arrived for the appointment. I arrived for my 2:15pm appoint at 2pm. I left at 5pm, having not completed by appointment. They marched me through a huge number of unnecessary eye tests not related to glaucoma, several that i had *just* had at my regular office. It took forever, and they kept leaving me in random (different) rooms. Eventually I saw the doctor for about 1 minute, he was fine and agreed with why we wanted to image by eye. They did the test (this was at about 3:45pm) and that took maybe 3 minutes. They took me back to an exam room. And I sat. And sat. And sat. I finally stuck my head out to ask what was going on, probably 30 minutes later. I was told there had been a medical emergency (ok, that happens) but someone would be with me soon. I let them know that I would have to leave eventually to pick my child up from daycare. I heard them then walk down the hall notifying other patients of the delay. And then I waited. I waited another 30 minutes but finally really had to leave. Everyone there is *nice* but it is an incredibly badly run office. I've NEVER seen anything like it. From seeing the large number of older people in the waiting room, it seems like they have a particular target population who they can perhaps take through this song and dance. It is a disaster. I have also called my main provider to complain. They are now trying to bill me for the appointment, even though we discussed it as I was leaving. I *offered* to pay, and they declined, saying I hadn't seen the doctor so they couldn't bill me. But I haven't been able to get in touch with their billing department. read more

I had a perfectly fine optometrist and since mostly I just needed contact lens prescriptions, that was working. However, I've recently experienced bothersome symptoms that lead me to believe I have developed dry eye. So I checked around and chose Dr. Branch. Sadly, it was a terrible choice and after almost 6 months of calling, requesting my test results, and talking to his assistant (or whatever her title is), it looks like that's still all I'm going to get. He is not responsive at all and the best you will get is that (maybe) his assistant will call you back (or maybe she won't). I drove an extra 20 minutes to get a contact lens prescription which I could have gotten from a much closer, and much more attentive, doctor! Oh, he did give me preservative free eye drops! Woohoo! I was already using eye drops and the ones he recommended are simply a different brand but do absolutely nothing for the symptoms that I came in with. I would not recommend this office at all. They may be friendly and while, that is good, you don't go to any doctor to enjoy the nice conversation of their staff; you go to get your medical issue taken care of. And this office falls short in that regard. read more

I tried to set up an appointment for my two teens ages 12 and 14 and the office told me that I needed two adults to come with me. I told her that I was a single parent and there was no way that I could bring another adult with me to the appointment. The receptionist stated that they needed someone to watch my teenager while one was being examined. This place is not family friendly and a joke. Wait time to see Doctor was 2 hours!! This happened on the last visit but we gave them one more chance. The staff is friendly, does most of exam but the wait was for the doctor!! Once the Doctor came in the feeling is more like we inconvenienced her. She sat for 2 minutes with patient at the most. Not friendly, not informative, and no explanation for the extremely long wait. I just went through my second cataract surgery with Dr. Kirstin Sargent. She is personable, has a good sense of humor, and is very knowledgeable and professional, while also very efficient. Both of my sisters have seen her, and we have all felt a great deal of confidence in her. While the pre-op evaluation involves several steps, and can be time consuming, it is easy and comfortable, and I was impressed positively by the professionalism of the staff. The cataract surgery is efficient, and I felt the staff was caring and professional throughout, and the surgery was done so efficiently and quickly I was surprised. I highly recommend Texan Eye and Dr. Sargent. The office and surgery suites are in different locations, both off MOPAC, which can be confusing, so pay careful attention to the address and directions. My only complaint is that the surgery location is not well-marked. Both are off the access road on the West side. The sign, Texan Eye, is obvious on the office building shortly before you have to turn in to the parking lot, but the surgery location is only marked by the address. Pre-op evaluation and surgery are both at this location, but in adjoining suites. read more

AWFUL. NEVER GOING BACK. If I could put no stars, that is what I'd put. But I'll put a 1 at the most. My first time seeking another eye doctor after being with the same one for 26 years. Needed something closer to home. The front desk service was eh? Not over the top great or bad, just eh. The young doctor's assistant who took me back to my room, was very nice. Did everything on her part very well, and then tells me doctor would be with me in a few minutes. Sitting there with no contacts, and a few minutes turn into 15-20 minutes. (Thank goodness for my kindle.) Doctor comes in, doesn't introduce himself (kind of dressed sloppy as well, (v-neck tshirt? no lab coat??, very 90's teenage boy hair-cut). Find out later after remembering who I was scheduled with, it was Dr. Lane. Tells me he's going to put a few drops in your eyes (not telling me what), goes over some things and says he'll be back in a few minutes. Another 10 minutes go by. (Realize my vision is getting blurry, put 2 and 2 together, he dilated my eyes without telling me.) He comes back, does his exam, 7-8 minutes later he's done. Uh, aren't eye exams supposed to be 30 minutes? Exam itself consisted of pretty much, so what's better, 1, 2? 3, 4? 5, 6? (I pause, can't tell. Uh....) 5 or 6!? No asking me when one is on top of the other, or when they line up side by side. He seemed very rushed. But never once did he apologize for the wait. Also please someone correct me if I'm wrong, don't you need to sit for 30 minutes or so when they dilate your eyes in a dark room? After all done, he ushered me to a counter for another lady to write up my prescription, keep in mind I can't see anything close up at this point (only distance) due to being dilated, and was he was off. I really feel I didn't get a thorough eye exam, and if should re-attempt again? Years worth of contacts was also over $140 bucks, a little outrageous! I've never been very impressed with this place... long waits, not very friendly or attentive customer service, and they just seem to be in a hurry to get you in and get you out. In addition, they tried to push me into getting the same strength contacts for both my eyes when my acuity is very different for each. They also pushed my wife into 'binocular' contacts (i.e. one lens for near and one lens for distance which NEVER really worked for her) until she got so sick of it that she just gave up contacts altogether. When it came time for my daughter to get fitted for glasses and contacts, my wife took her to Texan Eye (don't ask me why she went back there) and she proceeded to get prescriptions for both, however, she was informed after the fact that there would be a $125 charge for 'contact lens instruction' which we both think is absurd... now they are refusing to release her Rx to us, essentially holding her contact lens prescription hostage until we pay their ridiculous fee. Since our insurance only pays for one eye exam per year, we're screwed unless we want to pay full price which is exactly what we are now going to do since I refuse to give Texan Eye another penny. read more

The doctors are fantastic but getting to them is maddening. The staff is terribly rude (annoyed, it seems) and the waits are long.

This place gets mixed reviews for me, I had lasik on my right eye and everything went well. The left eye still not great. I then had an abrasion from working outside and it really hurt so Dr.Sanchez met with me and she was great. I then had a follow up with Dr.Lane. I drove 45 minutres and waited another 15 minutes to see him and he came in didn't introduce himself, saw my eye for 2 minutes and said, it is healing and that was that. I just completed my follow-up exam after having cataract surgery performed by Dr. Tom Walters. I have always had problems with my vision due to nearsightedness and astigmatism. I am still walking around in amazement at how well I can now see!!! Dr. Walters did an excellent job of taking out the cataracts and implanting new lens that now give me 20-20 vision!!! I am so thrilled because I didn't realize how poor my vision had gotten. The world now looks like I am immersed in an enhanced color photograph with the vividness of colors and sharpness of objects just popping!! I can't remember if I've EVER seen 20-20, but I am now! He performed the Monovision procedure so that I can read without any "cheaters." As important as all this is, I have to say that I was treated extremely well by the surgical team at the surgery center, and was impressed with the top-notch service I received from the beginning. I was seen right away, not left to languish in the waiting room as you do in many doctors' offices; the surgical team kept a sharp eye on me and noticed if I needed adjustment either with a tissue to my eye if drops were leaking out or if the oxygen tube had slipped a bit, without me saying a word. They were jovial as I was prepped for the procedure, which made me feel comfortable and in good hands. I would absolutely recommend having this procedure done at Texan Eye, and I would also encourage a person to get cataract surgery right away if needed because your vision is priceless; removing your cataracts truly affects your quality of life for the better! Texan Eye was recommended to me by a friend. On the morning of our appointment there was a fatality accident that was going to put us about 15 minutes late to the appointment. I called to let the office know. I told Jessica one of the receptionists that my GPS was showing we would arrive at 8:46. She very rudely told me that if I was "even one minute late" and arrived at 8:46 the appointment would be canceled. I understand schedules are important. But her attitude and tone on the phone was EXTREMELY rude, condescending and every sentence out of her mouth began with NO or WE CAN'T. I asked if there were appointments later in the day, her response was "2 weeks out", not "we're scheduling 2 weeks out", just "2 weeks out". I explained that we were trying to get my daughters appointment completed before school starts. Her response, "2 weeks out". I am surprised to read the bad reviews. Today I had my first appointment with the Retina Specialist and I have to say, I had excellent service the moment I walked in the building. Everyone was very friendly and efficient. The doctor (Dr. Sanchez) was very knowledgeable and explained things to me. My wait was much shorter than any other Retina Specialist I have seen. Dr. Sylvian Ung is amazing! Instead of a tech coming to get me from the waiting room, Dr. Ung always comes and takes me to the room. She is awesome at greeting you with a friendly smile and brings up topics I have talked to her about in past appointments. She is quick and thorough with the appointment and makes sure I'm comfortable with trying new contacts/eye drops. Only issue is that you have to wait a while on the phone to schedule an appointment...worth it though! read more
