There are some beautiful overlooks, a nice quarry lake for cooling off (although who knows how clean the water is, if livestock use it), and an overall great away-from-it-all vibe. I read that they use this ranch for mountain biking and I believe it. The hills are nothing to mess around with. Hiking will require quite a bit of up and down. Also, the dust was baaaaaaad. Come prepared with a mask or bandana if you are at all sensitive to dust. Other than that, it seems like a beautiful spot for recreating in the TX Hill Country.

The staff are nice when you can find them and their facilities are decent considering the rustic, primitive facade it's boasting. A five star rating would require that the 10pm quiet hours were upheld by staff and patrons were held accountable for things such as trash and site cleanup. Both nights spent so was up late listening to awful awful language from campers across the lake till 3am. Loud obnoxious music from all angles and to top it off -- generators. 3am is not a dramatization either. There was a one-wheel festival taking place and it brought along some unsavory and rude mannered patrons. The site I chose was across the lake near the tower in order to avoid the crowds and not hit any "floaters" while biking. My site was littered with garbage and food scraps from whoever was there before I arrived. Otherwise. I had a great time.

Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge makes for a great day trip if you don't mind about an…read morehour drive from central Austin, depending on traffic. I did a couple of stops while we were out there, Doeskin Ranch and Shin Oak Observation Deck. The main hike was Doeskin Ranch. There's a restroom right near the trailhead. It's not plumbed, just a chemical toilet, but it was clean, stocked with hand sanitizer, and being able to use the bathroom before starting the hike made the whole experience more relaxed. The hike itself was nice but very seasonal. I went in January, so the landscape was mostly golden-brown grass with limited greenery and not much tree cover. You're mostly enjoying bushes, rocks, and scattered trees rather than lush views. I'd really like to come back in late spring or late fall when things are greener and more alive. The trail is fairly rocky and there aren't many mile markers, although the trails seemed pretty easy to follow. After Doeskin Ranch, I stopped at the Shin Oak Observation Deck, which is very close by. There's a nice gazebo with a scenic outlook and a short, meditative gravel trail with three or four nature signs encouraging you to slow down and be present. It takes about 15-20 minutes to walk through depending on your pace. I recommend starting toward the left and going counterclockwise so you encounter the signs head-on instead of from behind. Overall, both stops were enjoyable. They're not hikes I'd feel the urge to repeat soon, but they made for a fun day hike and I felt worth the drive.

It "appears" that they have very good equipment (more on "appears" later). 4. A family-owned shop run by Tammy and her husband and her son. The much appreciated stuff: 1. They were running EXTREMELY late. However, they did call and keep us informed. They offered a significantly delayed pick up that made up for the lost time. This was handled very professionally. The problematic stuff: As you will see below, they did not meet their obligations nor keep their word. As such, our family vacation was significantly hampered and we had to make arrangements that cost us about $1000 extra and lost us considerable time. LakeTime Boat Rentals seems to just be getting going and I hope they mature as a business. However, do you want to put your faith in a company that bails on you and leaves you high and dry? 1. The older male (Tammy's Husband?) became verbally combative in a discussion about damages to their equipment. He spent his first 15 minutes onsite telling us the horrors of damages to HIS JetSkis. Each time ending his particular story about how that damage was "not covered by insurance". Apparently (according to husband), the only thing covered by their recommended insurance was being run over by another boat from behind. 2. In speaking with Tammy during contracting, any damage is covered by the insurance - but of course the deductible applies. I opted for the insurance and took a $1000 deductible (meaning I pay out of pocket for any damages below that amount). Again, Tammy was both pleasant and professional. 3. On a couple of different occasions during drop off, Husband kept saying this or that was not covered. Towards the end, he said he was worried about our location on the lake and wake turbulence damaging his JetSkis. For the third time, he asked if I would take responsibility for some undefined tragedy that resulted from wind or waves or whatnot. I joked back to him that I had purchased the insurance so that would have to cover it. He responded that that kind of damage was not covered by insurance. He did not appreciate my joke and like the Soup Nazi told me "No JetSkis for you!" 4. Finally, in an attempt to get over this whole issue, I asked him what was his real concern and tried to offer solutions to his worry about his RENTAL equipment. On every occasion, he would interrupt and would raise his voice. I actually told him that I was NOT trying to fight with him, just to understand his position. In the end, I also became frustrated by his obstinance and promised this review ... a promise I am keeping. He in turn, promised to "handle" my review. So, they took their JetSkis and PaddleBoard equipment and left (taking some of our safety equipment by mistake - which they returned the next day). They left us high and dry (literally) adding grief to our vacation plans. I would strongly encourage using someone else until LakeTime Rentals gets more experience on how to deal with customers and run a business and keep their word. They get a 1-Star because I would, under no circumstances, risk a vacation on them again.

I called to ask if my booking was going to be confirmed as I had adjusted my travel plans to be in Marble Falls in timely manner instead of going back to my cabin in Bertram to rest after hiking at Inks Lake State Park. Once I called, I was informed that the owner decided last minute to close early and my booking was denied. This was not communicated to me until I had called to ask. This is unprofessional and not how business should be done.

Cluck Creek Park is located close to Cypress Creek and Cluck Creek Trail, making it an ideal…read morelocation for team field sports. The big open field allows for different kinds of spirts, including but not limited to baseball, cricket, soccer, and lacrosse. Although this park doesn't have field lines painted on the grass, the field is well-maintained by the city of Cedar Park Parks & Recreation department. There is a small parking lot of about 10-12 spaces available, with a newly added concrete set of stairs down to the field earlier this year. There are also trash cans for anything you need to toss away and a dog poopy bag station near the parking lot. There are a couple of ways to enter the parking lot, either through the front at the parking lot or the back, which is more of a neighborhood entrance. Do note that Cluck Creek Park is a rainwater basin during storms so the field may flood a little at times. There also isn't a basketball court, volleyball court, or playground here, so plan accordingly. There also aren't any lights so hours are strictly sunrise to sunset. The park is adjacent to a greenway that runs through the Buttercup Creek divisions, which wild animals, including coyotes, have used to travel at night. The field is most beautiful during the spring when the wildflowers bloom, and it makes for a great place to picnic or watch the sunset.

This park was formally known as Live oak park and has since changed its name. Everything on the…read moreproperty looks well constructed and new featuring a covered picnic area, full basketball court, public bathrooms that are clean, and a covered playscape. There are two handicap parking spots, but otherwise you'll have to park in the street. Definitely a nice park for the local Burnet residents.
