We decided to eat here on a whim as we were craving a good steak. I didn't have any expectations for this place, as I've never been to a Texas de Brazil (only a Fogo de Chau), and I was pleasantly surprised. We did go there on off hours, so we were seated immediately, and the appetizer buffet was fully stocked. Their choices almost seemed more abundant than at Fogo de Chau, but their prosciutto/cured meats didn't seem fresh (the crackers were stale). The rest of the buffet bar was delicious, and I always like to try a little of everything. The meats during lunch/afternoons are more limited (compared to dinner, when they have lobster and filet mignon), but there there are plenty of choices. Their sirloin, if I remember correctly, was the best cut. I usually go for the picanha, the prized Brazilian cut of meat, but this time it was a little on the dry side. I like that you can request if you want the meat a little more well done, or if you prefer medium rare. They also offer specialty drinks made with coconut and condensed milk, but you have to ask! Went there for Christmas luncheon. First thing I noticed is that there wasn't one Christmas decoration which struck me odd. After we were sat, our drink order was taken. My 94 year old mother wanted hot tea which they offer, however, it took quite a while before she received it. The rest of us were eating and drinking before she got her tea. Next the salad options are good but would have preferred to have some sweet options as well. Next the meat part was slow and repetitive as far as the cut. At one point, we waited about 20 minutes to get any kind of meat and it wasn't that busy as we were the second table sat for the day. After complaining, I learned that the owners were Iranians hence the no Christmas decorations which made sense now but the lack of service as far as good was too disappointing to return. I had a gift card, so my son and I tried it out. We were greeted and seated quickly. The employees were friendly and did their job well. The place is very classy, spacious and well maintained. A great place to impress a special guest, ...especially if they're really hungry and are not vegan. Meat is the specialty here. The food and service were top notch. I loved the beautiful presentation of salad bar and hot food side dishes and quality of the food. Self serve sides included scalloped potatoes, traditional black beans and rice (though it was not a Brazilian feijoada which includes pork for flavor), fish filets in a sauce, lobster bisque soup, lots of salad items (including palm hearts, marinated onions, potato salad, olives, cheeses, cold salmon, and more. Be sure to get some vinaigrette relish or chimichurri at the salad bar to accompany your meats. The server brought garlic mashed potatoes, cinnamon plantains and wonderful freshly made "pão de queijo" to our table along with our drinks. They carry lots of wines, but I got the guaraná Brazilian soda pop I like served with an orange slice just like in Brazil. A few differences between traditional Brazilian churrascarías and Texas de Brazil to accommodate the American palate: in Brazil there are no salad dressings such as ranch or blue cheese. They use olive oil and vinegar. Since Americans would complain if they didn't carry these other salad dressings I think they chose well. No traditional grilled chicken hearts nor hard boiled quail eggs at Texas de Brazil, but does anyone really care? Instead, Texas de Brazil did offer delicious grilled shrimp and cheese stuffed, bacon wrapped jalapeños (never seen in Brazil), along with all the expected cuts of beef (picanha, sirloin, filet mignon wrapped in bacon, and more), chicken grilled and covered with Parmesan, pork, and lamb. Other than those few differences everything was authentic and "well done" ... unless, of course, it's a meat cooked rare, medium rare or medium. I did notice the grilled meats were not overly salty as they were at the competition down the road. I took my wife for an anniversary meal at the "other place" a couple of years ago, and the meat was so salty she couldn't enjoy it. I think she'd like it at Texas de Brazil. The "gauchos" did a great job serving us, and ensured we received the cuts we most desired. No, I didn't find anyone with whom to practice my Portuguese. The very sharp looking manager came by to ask if we were happy with everything. She seemed to be doing a great job. The restrooms were very clean. The prices are high for a meal, a bit more than their competition. Plan on $50 per person plus whatever drinks and tip. Not a budget dinner, but a nice option for special occasions when you want something classier than Taqueria Los Cholos. ;-) However the service and food was higher quality in my opinion. I had been going to this place throughout its opening . This place used to be my favorite restaurant, but sadly it's fallen off tremendously. Last visit being the worse , won't be going back . The meats are either extremely undercooked or extremely overcooked. My friend had a piece of plastic in his meat . One server just straight up ignored our table. The greeters were average, it felt like talking to a robot. Our waiter Johnathon was on point greeted us and took care of us. There were two managers walking around and checking in on everyone, they did make us feel welcomed. We greatly appreciate that! The food! Oh God the food! Let's just say it's was like a Biiiiig "O" in my mouth! I was served picanha, garlic sirloin, and lamb. My Husband had the same but also had the spicy sirloin, Brazilian sausage and Parmesan pork ( only thing that came out dry ). The sides they served us was mashed potatoes, jalapeño cheddar bread, and a cooked banana ( forgive me I forgot what it was called). The ambiance here is amazing! Went this past weekend expecting good things since the previous 3 times I'd been there it was really good. Did not get what I expected. The visible part of the kitchen looks greasy and nasty. The restroom smelled like rotten eggs. Service was not good. Asked for more doneness on a cut of meat and the server brought back practically charcoal. Overall the place was great! The staff was great! The ambiance has a bit of a classy feel to it (which isn't bad). Very open and spacious, so you're not squeezing between tables as you walk. My picanha was way over done on the first two rounds. It was perfect (medium rare) on the third, but still could've used either more salt or more time under salt before adding fire. The meat cut itself was good quality. There was this chimichurri sauce by the salad bar that I got excited about, because I LOVE chimi sauce on my steaks. Wow...just wow. As I'm typing this, my belt is unbuckled and my gut is in joy. I dont know how much longer the other Brazilian joint is gonna stay in business, but this place is great. Just the salad bar alone is worthwhile. There was a big bowl of bacon, whole roasted garlic!!!! I made myself some tomato, mozzo, and proccuitto rolls. I am so disappointed and a bit embarrassed that we took our family here. We're from the Midwest and frequent the location in Chicago. The meat was awful, under or overcooked and the lamb was gray and slimy as if it may have actually been rotten. The salad bar was small and lacking and the lobster bisque had a weird texture and taste. Easy to say this chain is not consistent at all. If I go out to eat I expect to actual eat and enjoy my meal. First time dining here. It was confusing at first as we did not quite understand the waiter. It took over 20 minutes for the salad to be prepared and served. Side dishes were brought out late. There's "Gauchos" roaming around ready to carve all the meat you want. Bacon wrapped Filet Mignon, Top Sirloin steak, Bacon wrapped Chicken breast and more. They also have a few Brazilian beers that are fantastic! They have a few appetizers to choose from, your other options are the salad bar or full meal with all the meat cuts you can eat, they'll keep 'em coming as long as you have the sticker up. The service is disgusting for the price. The waiter was poorly trained. The food is unsatisfying and overcooked. The waiter: Overfilled the waters, so they tip and spill easily. Doesn't say "pardon my reach" when putting his arm in your face. Doesn't come back to check on the table for extra sides or condiments. Doesn't ask to replace your plate; if you want a new plate grab it from the salad bar or they'll just use the one you got from the salad bar the whole time. Doesn't say you're welcome or thank you. At the minimum i expect basic etiquette and manners. The food: Meats come out slowly with little to no variety. Only saw top and bottom sirloin all night. I never had to flip my card to red all night-- meaning that my plate was never full. Everything is overcooked. Asked for rare each time and every cut was served medium well or well done. Really feels like a waste of meat. To be honest this might be the best it's going to get in the valley. But for the price it's nowhere near worth it. Save your time, money, and calories. Flies & gnats around table- We noticed there was an abundance of flies and gnats at our table as well as around the tables near us. Messy and dirty tables- the wait staff in our area were less than attentive, there was no real cooperation and dishes just seem to pile on top of tables and left there. Inconsistent COVID protective measures- gloves needed to be worn at self serve area, but the staff that walked around with the cooked meats wore no gloves. I have eaten at this chain in Fort Worth previously ... and I am pleased to say that the McAllen location continues the trend of excellent food served by an attentive and friendly staff. We had the Sunday lunch for $29.99 each. They've cut back a bit on the beef offerings and have more pork, lamb and chicken than I remember in the past. But the food was delicious and not over salted. Too often these type of restaurants have a heavy hand when it comes to salt. My only small complaint was that some of the meats were served well done as opposed to medium - and that we had to wait awhile for our favorite cuts to circle back to us. We were offered the chicken multiple times, but the beef had to be asked for after the first round. They brought it out again - but I felt they were pushing the cheaper cuts of chicken and pork a bit much. The service was first rate - and we will return. read more

Impecable service. This is a churrascaría. If your a Carnivore this is the place to go. Excellent choice of meats the way you like. Rare, medium, well or in between. It was my first visit at the Texas de Brazil. I have been to other Brazilian places but not this franchise. The interior was very nice and spacious. There is a section on the side for the salad bar and the meat is served at the table as usual. Picanha is my favorite out of all and it was very juicy and perfectly cooked. I was really excited to try the lamb chop at this place, but it was very disappointing. It smelled really bad that I could't even try it. After the meal, the server gave me a dessert for the birthday and there were about 7-8 different choices. I tried the Brazilian cheesecake, which was good. Let me start by saying that I have been all over Brazil and can put away a large quantity of meat. In all honesty Texas de Brazil is better the some that I had in Brazil. The quality of the meat was really good. The service was top notch. I particularly enjoyed Nick who made sure to get us exactly the cuts that we liked best. However, a big difference between here and Brazil is that here they bring the meat very quickly so it is harder to pace yourself. Of course Americans eat much faster, here a meal that would take a couple of hours in Brazil only takes 40 minutes. We had happy hour caiprinhas. They were good, but really small. Only about three sips. Texas de Brazil is expensive. Especially if you are paying for a family. There is a discount for medical professionals and other first responders. There are also discounted gift cards available at Costco, but you can't use both. The real question is comparing the two Brazilian restaurants in McAllen. Yes in overall quality Texas de Brazil is better. But as far as value and bang for your buck I would still have to choose Rodizio. Rodizio offers the grilled pineapple, which is a family favorite. Also there is a great lunch deal at Rodizio and the meats are about on the same level at both places. Again TDB is slightly better, but not worth the cost difference. As far as I'm concerned, those who choose TBD exclusively are just being snobbish. Conclusion: I will happily come here for a special occasion like a birthday, otherwise I'm going to Rodizio where I get more for my money. read more

This is a new Brazilian steakhouse in the plaza mall area of the expressway in McAllen something new and trendy that really hit the spot. The 50 item salad bar was amazing including hot accompaniments and then when you're finally ready to steak the picana and filet mignon and portions of lamb and chicken with perfectly served (medium rare) which I like. the drinks were spectacular with excellent ingredients the only downfall was that for a two person wait time at about 4 PM with about 35 to 40 minutes.
