First time in Kyle today, stopped to eat BBQ next door and had such a great experience. We decided to walk over to Texas Pie Company and grab a pie to go. When we entered we were not greeted by the cashier, but figured that was ok since she was helping someone else out. As soon as she was done with them I walked up to the counter and stood there, being ignored while she messed around with some receipts. She could have asked me to give her a minute, but instead after ignoring us for a while she looked up and rudely asked what we needed. The other person in my party was ready to just walk out the door, however, I went ahead and paid for a pecan pie, which I have yet to try. The whole interaction with this employee put a bad taste in our mouths, we would have been better off ordering brownies from the BBQ restaurant next door. This girl needs to be taught better customer service skills if she's going to be the first and only person customers are in contact with. read more

YUM YUM YUM! Absolutely love this place. I have gotten pies from here to go. I've so far only tasted the pumpkin pie, but holy moly is it good! I got a pecan pie to give to my mom on Mother's Day and she loved it! Suer cute and quaint place in the little square of downtown Kyle, plenty of place to sit in and enjoy some sweets or some regular food as well! Best Key Like pie I've had in my life and I used to live in Florida! Need to go back and try this place for lunch.

I have always preferred pie to cake & was very excited to stop in & pick up one of their mini-pies. How disappointing and sad I was to find that most of the pie was thick crust & an overwhelming sweet crumb topping & actually contains very little fruit. I have since had a sandwich that was tasty. However if your name is Texas Pie Company then you need to represent Texas well. Please reconsider the ratio of fruit to crumble. read more

WARNING: They have strange hours/ Check that they're open before proceeding. I was interested in this little vintage looking cafe because of the scuttle butt about their daily lunch specials. I was told they make a King Ranch Chicken that will melt your heart. They were sold out of the lunch special the day we went. Popped in for lunch. Ordered an Egg Salad sandwich (on sourdough) and a small coconut pie. You have the option to make it a box lunch by adding chips, drink and a small treat (cookie) for a small up charge. I declined. The egg salad was great!! Heavy on the dill but not over powering. Right amount of moist without being goopy. The bread was sliced a little thick for my liking but it was quite tasty. It was fresh, i assume house made. The winner here is the coconut pie. It was literally the BEST coconut pie i have ever had. Flaky crust, sweet custard and toasted bits of coconut. I'm afraid to go back as I'll need to try every flavor of pie they have. Dont tell my grandmother but it was better than hers and she makes a damn fine pie. I did not have the chicken salad but my companion did. Im happy to report it is a classic chicken salad, no grapes or tarragon in sight! read more

I had a late morning dr appt. tried the lunch special King Ranch Casserole to go. it came with a side salad ranch , dried up roll, and tea. 9$ salad fresh, but casserole was awful. sitting on a bunch of tortilla chips that were not even cooked with the bland concoction they were calling king ranch. no flavor at all dry as ever and little to no chicken. not spicy. read more

My sister brought me back some mini pies from this place and they were delicious. The crusts were flaky and buttery. The fillings were not too sweet because the crust balanced it out. We tried the blueberry, coconut, and fudge pecan. The blueberry came with a crumble topping that wasn't overly sweet, but the fudge pecan was my absolute FAVORITE. It reminded me of a brownie pecan pie. Next time she's in Austin I'll be asking for some more! read more

My husband and I have wanted to try the Texas Pie Company for a couple of years. Just never had the time until today. This is a great little restaurant in old downtown Kyle, just minutes off if I-35. We both had the Saturday lunch special, which was chicken pot pie, it came with a salad, a roll and iced tea. We also had individual little pies, one buttermilk and one cocoanut cream. The chicken pot pies were piping hot and the warm roll came with a pat of butter. The lettuce and tomato salad came with a side of ranch dressing. You order at the counter and they bring your food to your table. Everything was wonderful. Perfect chicken pot pie, with flaky top and bottom crust. The individual little pies were fabulous too. My husband ate his at the restaurant. I took my buttermilk pie home to enjoy later. Restaurant was clean, servers were polite. Will definitely be back. read more

We just moved to Kyle a few weeks ago. Y'all this Mama is worn out this week but I still like my boys to have a home cooked meal every night. Texas Pie Co might just be one of the best things that has happened to me!! This chicken pot pie was amazing! And we got strawberry rhubarb pie for dessert! And to top it all off the owner, Julie, was the definition of southern hospitality I can't wait to try all their homemade meals and she said would have them in the oven for me if I just call her when I leave the office! A part of local history, the Texas pie company is must try for any visitor to Kyle. They have some great pies and very affordable lunch menu items. Try their BLT. Tons of thick bacon, fresh lettuce, and succulent tomato. This place is very old-school--everything from their ticket system to the decor. Some will find this charming, but personally, I think it's due for a remodel. The way they section off the dining hall at non-peek hours smacks of laziness more than a desire to make the perfectly charming experience. This same mentality is mirrored in several other aspects of the business, including the fact that they don't warm up your pie unless you ask and when they do it's a few seconds in the microwave. They don't sell any fountain drinks, and their chips are out of a bag. Still, the main experience is good enough to overlook these failings. read more

A pie store! We got blueberry mini pie, and took it home and added some blue bell vanilla ice cream. There were no directions on how to get it warm, so we did our best to get the pie warm. would be nice to have instructions to come with on how to heat up those pies. I was passing through Kyle and had heard the pies were great. I arrived about 10 minutes before closing and got an icy stare from the lady behind the counter. "The kitchen's closed," she said, "you'll have to come back another day." I told her that all I wanted was an individual pie and that I would take it with me. I asked if the peach pie was made with fresh peaches--"well of course it is." Hmmmm. My next stop was for dinner. That done, I decided just to eat the pie in the car. The peaches were fresh--fresh from a can. It had a streusel topping rather than crust, which was fine. But the bottom crust was hard, the filling and the streusel were burnt around the edges. The flavor was good but not good enough to rate it more than 2 stars. I realize that with the amount of pies they bake in a day, mistakes happen. I often grab lunch here on Saturdays when I am working in Kyle. They have week day lunch specials that sound worthy of checking out. I usually get a ham and swiss or a turkey and swiss box lunch for around seven bucks that comes with a pickle, chips and my choice of sweet. I usually go for the oatmeal raisin cookie. Yum. The sandwiches I've had have always been pretty good. No complaints and sometimes I look forward to Saturday lunches in Kyle. For a healthier option check out their salads. What about the pie? I've tried the coconut cream and liked it just fine. Not my favorite place for pie, but, I'd definitely do it again. And in Kyle, well, your options are limited so if you want fresh baked this is definitely a good stop. I was told that you can get one day old pies at a discount. What about the service? Definitely not worth a drive from Austin. I had to drive by a couple times on my way to a client's in Kyle and was always intrigued. I finally caved and tried it and would not say it is any better than anything you get in the wee hours at 7-11. My dessert was dry...so maybe you can actually get better at the 7-11 if you time it right. I agree about the staff. What, are they hiding dead bodies in the back? Am I interrupting their illegal poker party? They acted like it was an imposition to put my stuff in a sack and ring me up. People who make and serve pie ought to be a little happier. I live in Kyle Texas and I love key lime pie. Well, what a better place than eat at the "The Texas pie company". Their food is delicious but the pies are even better, they are great! Read this first: Not impressed at all. Tried 3 different items. This review is exclusively for the pies. I should also mention that for most of the selections they do not sell slices but instead they sell mini pies. This is not quite the same thing because it throws off the ratios of pie to crust and the induction of air with each of those bytes to open up flavors. The Pecan Pie is ok but unimpressive. The Lemon Chess pie was nice and bright but it was nothing you would go back for. And for the Chocolate Peanut Butter Mousse, again it was unimpressive... and kept at room temp so I'm thinking maybe preservatives.. or its not quite mousse.... In fact they all seem like they might have been produced in the factory somewhere and brought in. The reason we say that is because they seem very professionally made yet mediocre in flavor and quality of product as is the case with much mass produced product. Based on the pies we might have given it 3 stars but service although not rude was a bit cool to cold feeling and we got service from both what appeared to be the owner and an employee, this led us to drop another star from the review. I have to admit this place is pretty darn good! It takes a lot for me to admit that someplace makes better pies than the Wimberley Pie Company, but they do. 3 stars because the service wasn't friendly and in the 2 years we've lived in Kyle we've only been one because the place is almost never open! I actually checked their website and the issue is they aren't open early or late, close early Saturday and are closed Sunday. So basically they are only open when I'm at work, and I can't imagine I'm the only one. Clearly they care about pie, but if they cared equally for customers, they'd be unstoppable. Granted I've only been once so my observations on service may not be the norm, so I'll have no issue going to 4 stars if better on my next visit. read more

First off-love the sign outside...just so cool. While they do serve sandwiches, I recommend you stick to the desserts. My husband ordered a ham and cheddar sandwich that came out on dry bread and had colby jack cheese instead of cheddar. I got the chicken salad on croissant special, which was good but not remarkable. But hey-this is a pie company, not a sandwich shop. So I got a small strawberry rhubarb pie with a crumble top. The server offered to warm it for me, which I gladly accepted. The pie was omgivediedandgonetopieheaven good. And I've had some pretty darn good pie before. The only reason I deducted a star is for the lackluster lunch and the less than enthusiastic service (they both seemed pretty bored and like they didn't want to be there).
