We walked in and soon regretted the decision when the lady who was taking our order appeared less than thrilled to serve us. Not once did she smile. We explained that this was our first time and you expect someone to recommend something but she turned her back to us. We felt like we were such a burden to be served when all we wanted was to try some of their desserts. Shouldn't it be a requirement for you be sweet/kind if you work in a pie shop? When we were waiting in line to pay she began asking my father very aggressively what he wished to order to which we told her that he was with us. We no longer wanted to support this place after that moment but why drive 30 minutes to leave with nothing. Their treats are nothing to brag about. I don't really know how to start this review. This place is like Dr Jeckel and Mr Hyde opened the best tasting bakery on the planet. We took a foodie vacation before Christmas, and this place was on our list for pies and lunch. We knew it would be busy. The crowd was orderly and the case was full of delicious pies and treats. But ordering? You wait in line for someone to either whisper "next" or scream "I said who's next!" It was like the Soup Nazi episode from Seinfeld. You never know how you'll be treated from one minute to the next. We were first greeted with a smile by one older woman. We waited our turn to order, and in the middle of placing our pie order, the obviously bored to death young counter girl turns away from me and starts waiting on another "regular." I couldn't believe it. I asked someone else to finish my order and was told not to talk to anyone else! Wow! So I waited until she finished with that man and had to stop her from helping another regular instead of finishing my order. I asked about lunch, was referred to the menu on the wall. I ordered chicken pot pie, and the girl pulled out a giant frozen casserole. I was like - we want to eat it here, not to go, and I was told they only serve it on Friday. Tuesday was King Ranch Chicken or sandwiches only. Then why not say so? So now I had to wait again while a "regular" was helped so I could finish my order. I asked the older man at the counter if I could just pay and go, but he said I had to finish my order with the girl I started. I was told not to speak to anyone else again! He told me to move out if the way. I moved to the right, the lady asked me what I was waiting for, and to move back to the left. My husband went outside because he was about to lose it. The girl finally finished my order, we paid, and asked for a big bag for our pies. We were told there weren't any. The was a large stack of bags right in front of me under the counter. I said I'd like one of those and was told I couldn't have one. Unbelievable. So we sat at a table to wait for our lunch. The chicken salad sandwich was very good but lacked salt. The soft rye bread was heaven. The KRC was mediocre at best. I didn't finish it. So we left with 4 pies at $15 each, 4 mini pies at $4 each, a bag of bars, and an ear full of attitude. Back at the hotel, one bite of the buttermilk pie and the ugliness faded away. We went through hell to get a taste of heaven, and sad to say, we'd do it again - just no lunch! Seriously, it's that good. The pecan bars and OMG brownies are indescribable.I thought all the reviews were exaggerations. Nothing could taste that good or be that much better than my own homemade. There's not a lot in the little downtown core of Kyle. We came here to see the town where my brother-in-law now calls home. We were expecting a bbq at the house a bit later but came across Texas Pie Company, glanced in the window, ... why not dessert before the meal. We popped in for pie. The lady will have a slice of the Chocolate Cream Pie and I will have a mini Almond Joy. Because I don't fantasize about creamy pies, I passed on tasting hers. The Almond Joy was a solid little pie based on its candy bar namesake. Coconut, almonds, and chocolate chips. She ate her entire slice. My 5-6 inch diameter pie was only missing 1/4 by the time we were done. Beside pie, they offer sandwiches, daily Mon-Fri casseroles, and quiche too (which I guess is really a pie). After seeing a local News8 spot on Texas Pie Company, I decided to give it a try last Fall. It got there around 5:45 PM (they shutter up at 6 PM), and the restaurant section was already closed, so I knew whatever pies I got had to be to go. I took several of the individual pies to go, and only found one chocolate pie to be worth going back for. The others were really unremarkable. Marie Callendar's has better pies, they're less expensive, and they're a lot closer to my home in Austin. I asked about the pot pies, and found that you can order them ahead of time with a couple of hours notice. So, the good news is that these pies are only baked fresh and ready-to-eat, not stockpiled and frozen. I had intended to go back for a pot pie one day, but when I found their dessert pies weren't that great, I haven't made the effort to return (and I pass through Kyle every day). I wasn't impressed by the service or the staff attitudes, and the owner was there when I visited. Even mentioning the News8 clip didn't seem to generate any excitement. Upon arrival to the establishment, I was amazed with the big pie statue on the roof! As soon as I walked in the cashier/customer service rep greeted us and asked how could she help us today! Well being we're first time guests at the establishment she told us the history of the company and what is popular to eat among the locals. Let me tell you, the place made me feel like I'm at home on thanksgiving morning! The smell of pies and food just seemed to have waken me up! We order our food and they told us to sit anywhere and they would bring the food out! Well as we are headed to an empty table the dinning area had a whole bunch of pictures in the area and it looked like if it was a museum food of history! Just awesome! Well after standing around and looking at the rich history the food comes out, and wow it tastes good! I ordered the BLT and chips with a Tea. Boy it tasted fantastic! I have purchased pies in the past and they never disappoint . I ordered an almond joy pie and I got the peach pie hoping the pie would be as amazing as the previous pies I have purchased in the past. The crust was amazing as usual, but as I cut through the pie I could not find the peaches. The flavor of the pie was everything I expected, Sweet, buttery, with a flaky crust. I was so disappointed that the amount of fruit was so limited. I could not even tell if there were peaches in the pie! The pie was still amazing but they really need to add a sufficient amount of fruit. Bought 4 small pies yesterday and they are delirious! Pecan, blackberry, rhubarb and Dutch apple. I heated the blackberry up in the oven the next day and WOW! Spot on! I would love to try one of the quiches they looked amazing! We drove down from North Austin and I can assure you it was worth the drive AND WE WILL BE BACK!!!! Holidays for sure! I have had Texas Pie Company on my food bucket list for several months. Last Saturday I got there. Went for chocolate cream pie. First ate a sandwich on what I think was freshly baked sourdough bread. It was a cold sandwich and had good tomatoes and red onions on it. I was a tiny big disappointed that mayo came in those little annoying plastic packaging that you have to apply yourself. Sandwich was good. The pie was fantastic. I had a date with me and we had to go to to another place in town before we were going to be done in Kyle. The very helpful counter staff fixed our pie for travel put a pie pan on top and shrank wrapped it. He then put it in a cardboard pie box. We came back an hour later took our pie and left. Texas Pie Company supplies pies to a few restaurants I frequent (Waterloo Ice House is one). I know this because someone at Waterloo told me. Texas Pie Company has a very wide selection of pie. First time in Kyle today, stopped to eat BBQ next door and had such a great experience. We decided to walk over to Texas Pie Company and grab a pie to go. When we entered we were not greeted by the cashier, but figured that was ok since she was helping someone else out. As soon as she was done with them I walked up to the counter and stood there, being ignored while she messed around with some receipts. She could have asked me to give her a minute, but instead after ignoring us for a while she looked up and rudely asked what we needed. The other person in my party was ready to just walk out the door, however, I went ahead and paid for a pecan pie, which I have yet to try. The whole interaction with this employee put a bad taste in our mouths, we would have been better off ordering brownies from the BBQ restaurant next door. This girl needs to be taught better customer service skills if she's going to be the first and only person customers are in contact with. read more

How disappointing and sad I was to find that most of the pie was thick crust & an overwhelming sweet crumb topping & actually contains very little fruit. I have since had a sandwich that was tasty.
