I have been to this restaurant a few times since moving to Athens and it has been exceptional each time. The food is absolutely delicious. I would even venture to say they served me the best meal I've ever eaten. The service is wonderful. All of our waiters and waitresses have been very kind and attentive. My mom and I once had to wait about 35 minutes for a table, and in that time, the manager came to the waiting area to provide waiting customers with appetizer samples and refreshments while also giving us opportunities to answer trivia questions and earn free appetizers, drinks, and desserts. I was very pleased with that experience. It was obvious to me that they valued their customers and felt badly about the fact that we were waiting to eat. The facility itself is clean. A bit tight in some places, but definitely not a hindrance to the overall experience you will have there. It is expensive, but that really shouldn't shock anyone considering that it is a steakhouse. Overall the food at Texas Roadhouse is pretty good. They give you just about everything you should want in a nice sit-down restaurant and for the most part even more. My experience with Texas Roadhouse was very good they had very good service, didn't have to wait very long to get drinks or food. And when the food does come out they do a very good job of making sure everything come out ok. I was very impressed with the food quality I got a 6 oz. Sirloin and Grilled Shrimp and it tasted amazing all for about 15 dollars. I would definitely recommend Texas Roadhouse to anyone looking to have a nice and cheap steak. read more

I like this place as it's affordable and don't get hit over the head with "buy local at extravagant prices" vibe. Reasonable prices, clean, good portions and a great value. Cooked my steak to perfection every time. Cesar salad is a bit on the saucy side. Seasoned rice is better than the baked potato IMHO. I tried Texas Roadhouse on my birthday May 5. 2018 and it was a disaster. 3 people and 2 burnt steaks, sure they comped 2 meals, not our drinks of course, but we did not get to eat together. One person bagged their meal and the other gave up. My prime rib was fine but I tried to share it 3 ways so I wouldn't eat alone. Very disappointed to say the least. Server was nice but overworked. Seating was so tight you were uncomfortable. Ok I thought, one more try, musta been a bad night, so I took my sister to lunch a few days later. They can burn burgers to a crisp and not get u hot fries till the third try....no comping either which is fine, I learned my lesson finally. Server was kind but had no control over kitchen. Btw we tipped well to severs both times, as not their fault, but won't go there again and hope you don't expect much or you'll be disappointed. read more

I use to work their food is legendary they are a great place to eat when I worked there I always kept on the dishwashers if something was not clean right great people they are like family I kinda miss working there I was well liked by most of the other workers it was my first real job and I have not got a job since. Showed the waitress when she asked how things were and she explained how it wasn't here fault because she entered what we ordered but she didn't offer to fix our order and the manager never checked on us. As a general rule of thumb, I abhor big box chain restaurants. But when they opened in this two-horse town, I had to go taste. There was nowhere else to get a good steak and I've been suffering for almost a quarter century. Texas roadhouse did not let me down. I got the fillet several times. It was good, but expensive. The last time I got their cheapest cut of steak, and it was delicious. They hand cut all of the steaks on site and make everything else there, unlike most large chain restaurants. I make an exception for this joint and you should too if you are also a liberal weenie food snob. read more

Our family has eaten at the Texas Roadhouse in Athens many times and we have never been disappointed. Tonight we visited and again we had superb service (from Morgan). The food was excellent. It is amazing that they can be so efficient in a place that is so crowded. We spent a minute speaking with the manager, and it clear why the place is so well run. read more

We stopped by here while staying at a cabin about a half hour away. To say that the food was excellent is an understatement. Brett our waiter was exceptional and gave us an experience that was second to none. I had the Fort Worth Ribeye...absolutely outstanding steak seasoned to perfection! My wife thought her salmon was a bit too salty but they replaced it in short order with another one that she said was perfect. Our friends were also delighted with their meals...chicken critters and another steak. If we are ever in Athens again, we will definitely be back! This place rocks! read more

I really enjoyed our waitress Kari, but we had a party of 8 and were split up into 2 parties. They first tried to put everyone in a booth and it didn't fit then got moved into two desperate parties. Out waitress was great. But the other party didn't get the greatness we got. Besides my steak not being medium rare and more medium than anything the food was good but I couldn't get through eating my steak. My mother got the wrong order and the other table had problems of their own. One lady at our table didn't even get her food. She got a sweet potato but not her steak. So I can't eat the meat at roadhouse because something they use does not agree with me but hubby loves this place...we went in the other day and I got their house salad, sweet potato, with rice and green beans....salad was awesome! Fresh and delicious. Sweet potato was excellent. Green beans had chunks of garlic and bacon...hmmm sent back. Rice sticky and over spiced..blech...did not eat. Waitress replaced bean with corn. It had butter and pepper...alot of pepper....good thing I like pepper. But my main complaint is you need to change your menu to tell people that you add pepper or garlic or whatever...when I order corn, I expect corn...not corn and a teaspoon of pepper....save a lot of changing and wasting of sides. read more

Pretty good food for a corporate steakhouse, definitely a welcome business in Athens. We went during their first week of business, so it's quite possible things will change dramatically. The wait staff was very attentive, and genuinely seemed to enjoy their jobs (they all broke out into a dance halfway through the meal). Me and a few friends went in on Saturday night after work for a bite to eat. I'll start off by saying that the service was great that's why I have them 2 stars. If not for our waitress they would have gotten no stars. She was polite and friendly made sure our drinks were full and overall really took care of us. Now the food was another story. I ordered a steak medium rare. When it came out let's just say I've seen deep fried leather that was easier to cut through. So it got sent back. After 5 minutes we began to ti.e to see how long it would take to get it back. 23:39 later it came out. So it took them a half hour to make 1 medium rare steak. And no it wasn't even packed. When it was brought out I told them to keep it because everyone else was done and I wasn't sitting her by myself to eat that wasn't what we had come here for. I believe I have been this place for more than 15 times. I have gotten tired of eating the same thing there because I just always order the same dish. I think one of the main things draws me back is their free dinner rolls with butter. I like those rolls more than anything else I ordered there. But I do like their overall dining environment and the culture inside. The food is good there, especially for someone likes me who like meat so much. From the taste of the food, the prices, and the service, I thought my overall experience was great! From the moment I walked in the door, the staff did not stop smiling, saying hello, or asking how my day and experience at the restaurant had been. Everyone was nice and it was obvious they cared. We were seated quickly and the waitress was at our table almost immediately. Throughout the entire experience she continuously stopped to refill our drinks and ask if we needed anything else. As for food and prices, they are great as well. I ordered the chicken critters off of the kids menu. This particular meal was $6.49, which is pretty fair for the food they are serving. Their meals are priced a little higher than some restaurants, but that is only because they are reaching out to those that are willing to pay a little more for good food. Speaking of the food, it was exceptional! The chicken was crisp and made a nice "crunch" noise when I bit into it, the way you would expect when biting into fried chicken. The overall dining experience at Texas roadhouse was great and something I would definitely do again. The food was a prepared well and very flavorful also it was all prepared exactly how it was order. The staff as a whole was all very friendly and helpful they were all willing to help with nay problem we might have had. Texas Roadhouse is one of the latest chain restaurants in Athens, Ohio. They feature steaks, ribs, and unique to this location are apathetic staff. On this visit, I ordered take-out. I arrived at the time frame when they estimated the food would be ready, and as usual went to the to-go cash register to pay so that I would be ready to leave when the food was ready. Unfortunately, one of the hostesses told me to go sit in the waiting area, and that she would come and get me when my food was ready. I said "ok" and had a bad feeling- but I went and sat down and waited. Nearly an hour later, the hostesses were standing behind their little hostess counter, looking at me and chattering and pointing. One of them came over and asked if I had been helped. I explained that I was told to sit here until my to-go order was ready. She checked in the back, and it had apparently been ready for quite some time. I estimated, based on the other people who carried to-go orders out, that it had been sitting there for about half an hour, and upon feeling the salad inside, I noticed it was radiating heat. This thing had been sitting and rotting for 30 minutes. I regretfully paid (that was a huge mistake) and looked at the hostess, wondering if she would say anything other than the excuse she had given, "well nobody told me.." - great, that's between you and your co-workers.. anyway, walked out with my bag. I noticed the hot food was lukewarm at best, and the salad might actually have been hotter than the other items! I was pretty fed up, and really pressed for time at this point, so I went right back in and put the bag of lukewarm food and rotting salad on the to-go counter and said "you know what? you can have this. I don't want this." I explained the hot food was cold and the cold food was hot.. and they asked if I wanted something different. Something different?!? Would I like to sit there for another hour and wait for something different? No. Absolutely not. I left. I went home. About an hour later, someone calls and leaves a voicemail to "fix my order".. I can only suspect they were sitting on my order somewhere in the kitchen and hoping to pawn it off on me again. I'm not going back there after this kind of attitude. And while they figured out my phone number, they went ahead and charged me for the food anyway. On past visits, I've found that the cooks really cannot cook your meats to order and the wait staff make lots of mistakes and tend to have attitudes.. this incident sealed the deal. I'm not going back there, and cannot recommend it. Chain restaurants in Athens come and go- I hope this one goes the way of Ponderosa and closes up soon. read more

Ok, it's a chain, but they do try. The food is what it is. You're not at Morton's or Sparks or even the Ribber in Portsmouth, so you know that going in. My complaint is not so much about the food. It's about the local beer selection. They offer Jackie O's and Little Fish, but no Devils's Kettle. Best steak in Athens!!! My personal favorite is the filet, yum yum! With a side salad and mashed potatoes! Although, you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Very friendly staff, consistent with exceptional food and service. My only "complaint" is the rolls...they are too tempting! Be careful not to indulge TOO much, because you may end up with no room for your actual entree. I learned this lesson the hard way, so now I am sure to pass on refills after the first basket, this can be difficult at times because they are so darn delicious! I would recommend calling ahead if it is a Friday or Saturday night, because they do get busy. They don't take reservations :( but calling ahead does cut down the wait time significantly. read more
