Today was my first visit. I was looking for a local butcher and Texas Slabs popped up. I thought the name was kinda odd and also the focus seemed to be jerky but I gave it a shot. The place is unassuming and not what you would think of as a butcher shop but they have a great selection of meats. The owners were also very friendly and helpful. I picked up two prime ribeyes. We grilled them tonight and they were delicious. I will be back again. I love being able to support a local business rather than having to go to the supermarket. read more

Great customer service. Called ahead to make sure they had some filet and he saved me a couple to choose from. It was my anniversary and wanted to make a "Gordon Ramsay" filet so went with the barrel piece he saved and he cut 3 2" filets out of it. Went home seasoned those babies and cooked them up GR style and finished in the oven. OMG! They were so tender you could cut them with a fork. Truly a hidden gem just off FM 157 (Cooper St in Arlington) and H 287 in Mansfield. They make about 5 or 6 different flavors of jerky ranging from sweet to salty to spicy and everything in-between. The true secret however, is the meat they sell. They have a tiny butcher's case which stocks some of the BEST Choice/Prime, wet-aged beef you'll find outside of one of the "membership clubs" or specialty stores. This meat though is different. It's LOCALLY SOURCED from a ranching company out of Fort Worth called Frontier Meats. Their beef is raised locally, grass-fed, pasture-grazed and does NOT get pounded with hormones and antibiotics. "Holy crap Ted - that sounds really really expensive lol" you ask? Newp. For instance, high-grade Choice Ribeye normally sells for around 10.99 /lbwith common specials bringing it down to 9.99/lb. The last time I was there they also had Bone-In Ribeye for 8.99/lb. Their Prime-grade Ribeye is generally 11.99/lb if I recall which is still a fantastic price. a 16 oz steak for 12 bucks. Try getting a deal like THAT at Del Frisco's. One drawback to being small however (and the reason I knocked the rating down1 star) is that it really limits the cuts they have available. No room for butchering equipment means everything is hand-cut. This is great if you want a 1.5 inch steak for dinner but it sucks if you're looking for a great Porterhouse. You won't find one here. (they can't cut that primal with a handsaw/knife) They do also have a cold-case which stocks some fantastic Briskets, poultry, pork, bison steaks/ground, sausages, some of the best uncured bacon (no nitrates!) all at prices competitive to what you see at the big-box retailers and membership clubs. Just remember that Quality is the difference here folks. The staff is friendlier than hell and very very helpful - especially if you're looking for recommendations on meat. There's also a plethora of jar'd sauces/salsas, mixes, rubs, condiments and anything else you can thing of that would accompany a Texas cookout. (minus beer and potato salad). There's been rumored-discussions about them expanding the store and increasing the stuff they offer. Let's just hope that includes some more butchering capacity because I sure could sink my teeth into a nice, 22oz Porterhouse right about now read more

I think it's important to have a good butcher because it's good for the economy and ecology. It is better for all parties involved to eat and shop locally. Grass-fed, local beef is a treat. We got a tri-tip, and some Rib-eyes and beef jerky. Everything was clean and delicious. (We smoked the tri-tip at home). I also liked that there were many protein options to choose from and they have some cuts which are hard to find at least in the south Dallas/Grand Prairie grocery stores. Like the tri-tip. The other upside: it's cheaper than getting grass-fed beef at Central Market. The only downside: it's far from my house. read more

This place is awesome! It's tiny as heck, leave your kids in the car. But what great bargains to be found. The meat is great quality and very reasonably priced. I love their fajita meat especially and their steaks and BEEF RIBS! My husband likes the jerky and the gigantic smoked turkey legs. I love all the gourmet sauces and jellies they sell, and they even sell fudge though I've resisted that temptation so far. Yesterday I picked up a 12 pack of good size chicken drumsticks for $4. That's inexpensive even by chicken standards. I got two large slabs of beef ribs for a total of about $17. Beef ribs are pricey - one large beef rib at Pecan Lodge is $33 (admittedly those are crazy meaty large beef ribs...but still!) Anyway, one of my favorite weekend routines is coming out here so I have an excuse to stop by Big D BBQ or Greek Cafe while I'm doing my meat run for the week, then stopping at Sprouts on the way home for the freshest veggies & fruits. If you're getting your meat at the grocery store, do yourself a favor and come check these folks out. read more

First of all, i love this place. I thought i was addicted to the prime ribeye until i tasted the wagyu ny strip. Amazing. So glad i live close , i will try other cuts soon. They have great prices and great quality of meats. The customer service is pretty good as well...and no matter who you talk to, they will know a lot about their products. My only issue is that i hate that its so closed in...i seem to be the only person that comes in with a mask during these weird times and its so small. read more

I've been in here a few times. The first time looking for something specific and while they told me they had it, the meat in question was frozen, so I passed and left, not knowing if I would ever have a reason to come back. Soon after I was looking for a particular rub, and the maker said they had it, and after calling, they had it in stock. I went by, grabbed it, grabbed something else they recommended, and then took some time to really look around and realized this place has got it going on a lot of different levels. Tons of spices and rubs, with some of the higher end, well regarded ones in stock. Sauces, salsa's, cheese, some sweets, lots of good choices. Very good selection of bulk cheese. Sadly, no in house sausage, but lots of other good brands around. All of it cooked (also sadly) but still, I found two brands, Hess from Muenster, and Dankworths from Ballinger that surprised the hell outta me. If they would've had Dankworths smoked sausage I probably would have bought most of it. (wonder if I can talk them into it in the future maybe?) Grabbed some Hess jalapeno and cheese sausage and it's great stuff. The meats available vary, especially when depending on when you visit. But, they have a pretty varied selection, and if I did more grilling I would be in here a lot more often. Prices are pretty good compared to other places also. I have a new found respect and will probably make this a go to stop. Unlike some other reviews, I found service to be helpful, and happy with a smile. Maybe there are some new employees around, I dunno, it's been really good when I've been in. Located in a strip center. Say this because the name on the outside is "Beef Jerky". Its just a big ol MEAT FEST in here!!!! I love the jerky, sauces and brisket- and that's all I've ever purchased from them- each gets a star. They have little bowls of sample jerky so you can taste the flavors before you commit. I usually stop in on the way to the Mansfield cinemark for movie jerky. They also carry Texas Pete hot sauce- it's one of my favorites and now I don't have to pocket extra tiny packets from Golden Chick. I agree the place is tiny- and Ted is right about the limits on selections. I however had never had good service from the young man that is always running the register. He is very bland- if anything I feel like he is just waiting for me to pay and leave. If there was someone friendlier I would have no problem jacking up the rating. My brother bought 8 pieces of ribeye the other day to grill at home. He is the old traditional salt and pepper seasoning guy. We like our steaks med rare. It was sooo good!!! We will be back and judging by the prices this is way much better than buying old poked at meat from the regular supermarkets. We also tried the chicken fajita tex mex style. I was being lazy and threw all the onions, chicken, and peppers on a pan and into the oven and finished on broil for a char. Pretty tasty but it probably be alot better on the grill. read more

Great place! I asked what the special was and it was NY Strip $7.99 per pound. They were cutting them fresh so I got to go back and see them be cut. It doesn't get any fresher. Also, there are some things here not typically found. I got jalapeño stuffed bacon wrapped quail. They have bison, wagu beef, and more. This is a small place but lots to buy and the owners are super nice. I suggest you go check this for great family eats as soon as possible! read more

So far, really like this place after one visit and already planning on going back. Got a 3 lb. bag of venison patties, a 3lb bag of boar patties, some pineapple ghost chili salsa ($6 I believe), a small bag of beef jerky ($6), a large smoked turkey leg, a pretty nicely sized chunk of muenster cheese ($3.50), and I think something else for maybe $51 total. The boar and venison was only $5-6.50/lb which is pretty good considering I think I've bought them both for $9-11/lb from Sprouts. The pineapple ghost chili was just meh. Good spice but wasn't a fan of the other flavors in there. The beef jerky was really good. I liked the mild, but we ended up getting the sweet and spicy and that was really good. What I like about this beef jerky compared to some of the other beef jerky shops I've been to (only like 2) is that they dry out their beef jerky just enough, but there's still some flexibility and the jerky isn't super stiff. It's still got some chewiness to it which I like. They didn't have any Bone-in available, but they say they get it in occasionally and then age it. It's not inexpensive compared to crappy meat bought from the grocery store, but for the meat that they do sell it is a VERY GOOD price! read more
