Literally threw my entire meal away after my first (and only) visit. Makes perfect sense that they have an NO REFUND policy boldly posted on the wall behind the front counter. Chicken smelled (and tasted) like fish and was soggy. Fries were cold and soggy--and even the biscuit was soggy (and hard?!) at the same time. If anyone ever figures out a way to manufacture anti-matter, it has to be these guys. You heard it here first. This place HAS to be a front for money laundering. Nothing here is good. Depends on how you look at it, what you compare it to. Going to Wendy's, McDonald's, Burger King? Go to Texas Tom's instead. You'll pay less and have a more unique experience. The menu is endless: burgers, tenderloins, Italian steak, chicken. They're not awesome but it's a welcome change of pace from the big names. I got the tenderloin. It was pretty good, a tiny bit of "funk" in the flavor, frankly as though it wasn't totally fresh. These kind of things aren't made in house, they arrive on a truck most likely, but the only place you can get something like it is at Sonic and yes Sonic is better. The fries are just ok. There are plenty of them. They're not hot, not cold, not soggy, just barely crisp and barely warm. (They should do what Wyandott barbecue does: they use frozen fries too and they pre fry them. Then when you order they fry them a second time.). At Texas Tom's I had to wait a few minutes for the tenderloin, might as well have Re- fried my fries, but that's not their way. Too bad. I'd give fives stars for awesome fries alone. Unforch, they're not taking good care of the soda fountain. The carbonation isn't working. You know when your soda tastes flat and not quite like the soda you ordered. I eat too much fast food. This place at least provides variety. A little more effort would yield a lot better quality. Gave Texas Tom's another try, this time very hung over and ready for grease. I ordered mac and cheese and biscuits, deciding it was unlikely the chicken had gotten better since my last visit. After another ridiculously long wait at the drive thru when no one else was there, I received my food. I should also mention that Texas Tom's now has a sign on their window specifying how to return their food. This is probably partly because people around here are trying to scam the restaurant out of money, but it should also be said that I'm sure many people genuinely hated it and asked about refunds.... Enough people that they made a sign. Crazy. Anyway, I got my food and I have to conclude, this is basically cafeteria food. The mac and cheese was bearable, but too soupy and fluorescently colored. Reminded me a bit of boxed Kraft, with thicker noodles. The rolls were very dense and dry, but soft at least. Deep fried burritos, Tater tots, a fantastic Pepsi out of a styrofoam cup. I haven't been to a Texas toms in years and was so glad this place reopened. Pink booths are retro and perfect. Food was fast and the staff were very friendly. Clean tables and well lit. Would recommend and visit whenever I'm in town. read more

The restaurant doesn't look like much, but they have some of the best catfish that I've had in Kansas City. Not only is the fish good, the price is too. I once received the wrong order. I called and told them about it and they told me to come back so they could correct it. When I got there, they had my original order ready for me. Another good thing about Texas Tom's is that they are open late. If I'm in need of a late night snack and don't want to wait in the long line at Pancho's or Taco Bell, I slide right on into Texas Tom's. read more

I placed my order in the drive through at 6:37 got to the window at 6:45 at 6:54 the cashier coco asked me wait on the side for her to bring my order out. so I waited. I waited an additional 15 minutes while I watched five cars go through the drive through successfully with their food. I had to go all the way inside and while I stood there no one came up to me for a good 3 minutes and one worker stared directly at me. then finally a new cashier came to me abe told the cook I didn't get my order and he proceeded to make the whole order while I stood there waiting absolute pissed off and all he said was sorry for the wait. how did you forgot a three item order while I watched people be handed 2 plus bags full of food. I wanted something different for lunch so I decided to stop here at the Texan Tom. Once I arrived I was immediately greeted by this amazingly beautiful woman. I ended up ordering three piece white and 4tacos. When the food came out with such lighting speed. I have to say the chicken was so good. Seasoning was on point. Hot and fresh on poInt. Succulent fall off the bone good. Biscuit was delicious. Taco's was on point fries was good as well. Being from out of town I would definitely say Texan toms runs at competition with KFC. Wednesday, 23 April 2014 I was hungry, debating whether to indulge in the mindlessly mass produced fast food joints on main street. No, I wouldn't. It always left me feeling guilty afterwards. I drove past them, giving one final consideration. I didn't want to support the processed food monsters anymore, but what were my choices? I felt limited due to the pathetic situation inside of my wallet. Frustrated, I turned onto Linwood. Good riddance, I thought, as the monsters dissipated into the distance behind me. Not quite out of mind. Annoyed, my stomach reprimanded me with a groan. Fuck. Suddenly, as if to appear exclusively for my own personal gain, Texas Tom's appeared with its fabulously large hat and an enticing "now open" sign. Immediately I swerved into the awkwardly planned parking lot. I went inside to find the comfort that my stomach had been longing for. My eyes! The decor took me back to better times, reminiscent of my homeland of Topeka, Kansas, which is a treasure trove of outdated 1970's architecture. I ordered, and after a short wait during which I was offered a mint, I was handed an unlabeled white bag and a Styrofoam cup with the nectar of the gods that is sprite. I had a burger and it tasted like a burger Jesus might enjoy. All in all, I recommend this to Jesus. read more

Okay, stop right there before you think about writing a review on this place. This is a fast food joint in the city, period. What do you really expect from this place? It is going to taste exactly how it should taste. There is no culinary skill going into your meal here. If eating food from the frozen food section of your local grocery store is your steez, then you came to the right place. The fried beef tenderloin is a great meal to induce an afternoon nap. There are three other places in this neighborhood to eat the same tasting fried chicken. Try this one if you're tired of eating at the Church's down the street. Flavors here tend to taste better after a long night of drinking or the next day hung over. I have to admit tho, they did get clever slapping a slice of american cheese on those deep-fried burritos. My family ate here on May 1 2014 I had the shrimp basket along with the hot wing basket.
