He was friendly, kind, and happy to answer all of our questions. He made us feel welcome and really added to the experience. They shake your hand, they ask your name, they make sure you know theirs (I have to prepare for a pop quiz on names when I go here), and they wait on you using all the steps of service and they don't drop the ball. If the there is a blip in the flow, they know it, they address it and THEY FIX IT. if they tell you "NO" it's because they exhausted every avenue FIRST and narrowed "NO" down to the only answer. My girly friend and I went for a Thursday Girl Dinner after work! We arrived around 430 and there was still a decent amount of parking. We were warmly greeted and had the best waiter! I think both the "Girl Dinner" and "Boy Dinners" are good deals for what you get. Incline on 9th is a fairly new restaurant, located in the West Bottoms area. I've seen multiple event advertisements over the last few months, and decided to stop in for Happy Hour one Friday. The menu offerings are very diverse, there's something for everyone. I had the birria nachos and rangoon fries. The nachos were my favorite! They were smothered and covered with slow cooked meat, queso, jalapeños and pico. The price point didn't feel very happy hour-ish, but I'd be okay paying for them again. I went last night for their Girl Dinner Night and WOW it was packed!! I made a reservation with a couple of girl friends for Galentine's Day and when we got there, we had to wait 20-25 minutes for our table to be ready because it was so busy. Normally I'd be a little annoyed but honestly I thought it was so cool that the restaurant was packed with girlies having dinner with friends. There were women of all ages which was so sweet to see. Finally gave Incline on 9th a try for brunch, and boy am I glad I did! From the moment we entered the door, the staff were so incredibly welcoming and helpful. We got a great run down of the menu from our server. Incline on 9th is more sophisticated and upscale than I was expecting out of the West Bottoms. The dinner menu especially looks to be on the fancier side. As for brunch, they have some real creative and unique options such as breakfast soup and grilled cheese & tomato eggs Benedict. The latter was totally delicious -- loved the tomato "soup" hollandaise on top! They also have a great brunch cocktail menu. Highly recommend the BOC. They host drag brunch on the weekends! Tons of fun, and a great way to be introduced to this place. Super inclusive and welcoming space. The best part however, was when they cleared the table and I declined a to go box the server picked up on my disappointment in the meal and really tried to make it all right for me! I was looking for a new stop in KC and came across Incline on 9th. Thanks to the other fine reviews it looks like I found a place that I want to stumble into more often. I went for lunch on a Wednesday and the lunch crowd was light. I ordered the Sloppy Ralph which is their spin on a traditional Sloppy Joe and they hit it out of the park. Very flavorful but a good balance of sauce so you can still taste the meat. Paired with a side of hand cut fries ($2 upcharge) and a Valtrex (Tequila and Mezcal cocktail) I was sold. A nice mural is centerpiece wall where restrooms are behind; Then there red booth/chair deco space and an earthy high table corner. The bar has plenty of space as well. When you view the menu, I became curious about the prices. Again there's a cash vs credit difference. I thought it was because of the convention & tourism but that should be for restaurants so I was told because of use of credit card which means I'm paying the machine fee. I'm glad it's up front because it gives me the option to leave. We enjoyed the shareable : Rangoon fries.. literally crab Rangoon dip.. this was very delicious. Real crab meat. My chicken sandwich was definitely topped with plenty of mozzarella, melted and thick with arugula and pesto spread. The bottom part of sandwich was soggy from the juice but Preston got me another brioche bun. I didn't get much flavor from the chicken itself. My mom devoured her cod fish tacos. Quite a few tables were occupied - which is a good sign. Sat at the bar. Bartender greeted me immediately and served me a water. Solid cocktail, beer and wine selection. Ordered the fish tacos and purple kettle chips. The 3 tacos were served in flour tortillas. The fish were breaded. The cod was meaty, flaky and well battered. Good size portion. The kettle chips were crunchy and addicting. Limited gf options. Pescatarian options- salmon, fish, shrimp, scallops, etc. Lots of beef and pork on the menu. Even lamb. Prices are spendy and don't match the casual bar feel. Street and lot parking next to the building. If you're in the area it might be worth a stop. A little lackluster in my personal opinion. We came for girls night which I will give them credit for; it's a great idea. $26 for a martini, salad, and fries. I got a dirty martini with gin which was not good. Whatever gin they used was more on the floral, fruity side which doesn't work with olive juice. I did the steak salad and that was the star of my show, the dressing was amazing! It almost made up for the fact that my fries were definitely bottom of the barrel. My friends got the chicken caesar salad and it looked like coleslaw. Neither of them finished it. A layer of tangy Sloppy Joe style ground beef, a layer of fried pork belly slices, topped with a layer of fried onion straws and resting between a warm brioche roll. You could taste the charcoal smoke in every bite! Yummm! I will say though...pass on the side of chimichurri...way overpriced for how much they give you. As for the Seafood Pasta, the seafood was some of the best I've had in the KC area. The sauce had a tangy note that was a little unexpected, but nothing too horrible. Yes, it's $$$ (hence the 4 stars), and while the vibe inside is modern, cozy, and perfect for a night out, something just isn't fully there to justify the price for every dish. The service is spotty and the menu prices are a little on the higher side. That's the gist of it. The nitty gritty, well, let's start off with some positives. The location is right on the money, across from luxury lofts in the Westbottoms and a new shuffle place is right around the corner. Also, the menu seems to be pretty diverse and has some offerings that are more high end than most bar and grilles have to offer. If those dishes are all executed correctly on a day to day basis then this place has nothing to worry about. However, now onto to the not so good. When my mom and I went to enjoy the Chicken Sandwich that was on special for the Pitch Sandwich week we also picked up the Barbacoa Nachos. The problem with these were two fold, first off the portion was rather small, not the number of nachos but the amount of meat, for a nearly $20 appetizer and secondly they were cold and soggy. These were pretty to look at but, were definitely a no-go. They needed some sort of special something, a sauce or a crema, some sort of spicy salsa- anything to make them stand out and worth their steep price tag. Nachos are a dime a dozen so, they really need to wow me. Anyways, onto a more positive note. This aptly titled 'chicken sandwich' was so tasty I had to tuck back to Incline on 9th a second time before the special was over. Now, this sandwich is on the menu at all times however, it's not usually half off. Actually, that reminds me I am curious if they offer a happy hour. When you order a chicken breast sandwich at a restaurant it better be a darn good one because, some are rather dismal. This one is a shining example of what to do to make a seemingly healthier sandwich less boring. The chicken breast itself is insanely juicy and wasn't dried out at all, the portion was healthy- looked way better than the sad chicken breasts I get at the grocery store. With a pillowy buttery brioche bun top and bottom the chicken is slathered with a savory spread of vibrant red pepper pesto and creamy mozzarella tops it off. This sandwich gets a fresh element from peppery arugula and that's all it needs because the flavors all work in perfect harmony. Do not forget the side of housemade tator chips because those were absolutely delicious. They had the right crunch and a good level of salt, a neutral flavor that paired nicely with the chicken sammy. read more
