Next time I'll do a food review. My fav wine is red wine but his fav wine was the orange wine. It was very refreshing * you get a fake debit card and it collects all the prices for the wines you try . Which was pretty cool !!

I still like Roots. It's truly a unique concept and one-of-a-kind in all of Houston (self-serve…read morewine tastings). However, my recent visit was just okay. It was warm and humid inside (Texas summer is mostly to blame). That said, the handful of whites that I sampled were not very chilled. Kinda defeated the purpose of getting a refreshing chenin blanc or rose. And a lot of the tasting notes were not available above the bottles. By the time my friend made her way through the tastings, she had already spent $20+. They also charge a 20% auto-grat. Not a fan of that percentage for self-serve and counter service (you have to order food at the register). We ended up going to Mimo down the street to sit at the bar, taste complimentary samples, and then order a full glass. I'll still go back to Roots but have kinda lowered my expectations of the wine selection and value. Some of the novelty has worn off. Good news is that their food is still solid: loved the mushroom toast and ricotta toast last I tried it.

From the welcome as soon as you walk in to the attentive staff and delicious menu options, I've consistently had a great experience here. Now if there's a patio, you already know where you're going to find me! I almost always choose to sit outside, and one thing I REALLY appreciate is that the service doesn't change because you're on the patio. I'm still checked on and given the same attention as if I were sitting inside. Patio people matter too! Lol The **Ikoyi Shrimp and Coconut Chicken Bites** are favorites for us. They're seasoned and cooked so well, and honestly, you could probably point at something in the Small Chops section and walk away happy. There isn't a dedicated kids menu, so I usually let my little one make a meal out of the smaller bites and she's a happy camper. For my main, I've ventured around the menu and tried different dishes, but somehow I always find my way back home to the **Golden Bowl**. Smoky jollof, curry, chicken, veggies and plantains all working togetherand every time I order it, it tastes just as good as I remembered. At this point, recommending ChopnBlok is easy. **Good food, good service, good patio vibes. I'd recommend this place over and over again.**

Despite how packed and busy it was, the bartenders were super attentive throughout our entire visit. I ordered the following: 1. Coconut Chicken Bites: There was barely any coconut flavor. I would say this appetizer can be skipped as there was nothing particularly special about it. 2. Golden Bowl: Super delicious and easily the best dish I had here. Every bite was packed with so much flavor. I would definitely order this again! 3. Greens & Tings: This had a very smoky flavor, and the chicken was incredibly soft, tender, and tasty. Overall, I'm glad I got to try this restaurant, especially since it was my first time having West African cuisine.

I want to start this review off by saying that the dedication and pride that both Ms. Arga and…read moreJames displayed in response to my previous experience has given me a different perspective on Sunshine's. After a conversation with Mr. James about the history of this location and the importance of their reputation and providing positive customer service, I came to the conclusion that this food is best enjoyed hot, fresh, and in house. There are a plethora of spaces for all kinds of people, whether quiet and reserved or lively and communicative. Sunshine's has a partially shaded patio that has a great ambience and honestly a pretty good place for small gatherings. To speak on the quality of the food, my experience this time around was excellent. I ordered the Black Bean Burger with a side of sweet potato fries. The patty was perfectly cooked and the addition of the veggies made it such a nutritious and light lunch. The only addition I would make is having a sauce ON the sandwich. However I did get some vegan mayo and a smoked sauce on the side to help with adding some moisture to the sandwich. Overall I am very grateful that I got to have a second experience here as I was hoping to become a loyal customer. I recommend this place to anyone who is looking to find a cultured food joint that emphasizes health consciousness!

The fries were fresh, homemade, and tasted great when served hot. The Sunshine Burger was good overall, with fresh toppings and plenty of flavor. My only personal preference is that I'm not a fan of beyond meat substitutes, so that kept it from being a favorite for me. Next time, I plan to try the black bean burger instead. I also tried the Golden Milk juice, not a favorite of mine. The food was fresh, the portions were satisfying, and it's a great option for anyone looking for vegetarian or plant-based choices. I'll definitely be back to try more items on the menu.
