Completely amazing meal. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Super unique food matched by incredible service. We had several Happy Hour mini-meals including Golden which is a must and not one but two servings of Polo Club Suya. Do yourself a favor a visit this Michelin recognized restaurant. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Heads up Monday's they have a live DJ so be ready for a load time.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]
I came on a Friday night without making reservations... which probably wasn't the best decision.... but to my surprise, we ended up getting seated 10-15 min after being placed on the waitlist! Anyway, my friend & I were placed at the end of the table with a group on the other end, to demonstrate how packed it was (a communal table?). Our server was extremely kind and attentive as well. :) Given this is Montrose, the parking situation is abysmal, but fortunately, my friend and I were able to snag a spot on a nearby street/neighborhood. This was my first time trying African food (specifically Nigerian), and phew, was it good... I highly recommend the Golden Bowl, a curry dish consisting of chicken that was grilled to perfection & had a nice smoky flavor. I also absolutely LOVED the addition of plantains, which is such an interesting combo! Their preparation of vegetables, such as Brussels sprouts, was top-notch as well. Portion sizes are huge, so make sure to come hungry. ChopnBlok definitely deserves its Michelin rating, and I'm so glad my first experience with West African food was so pleasant!
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Houston. Service is excellent. Love the interior. Always clean and welcoming. I always order the Trad which is usually the best ever but today the plantains had been overcooked. The exterior needs to be cleaned up. The plants need to be cut back to allow entry.
10/10 experience at ChopnBlok. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance inside is super cute and elegant. I love the wallpaper and Black artwork.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We sat at the communal table because reservations on a Friday at 3:30 were completely full. Our waitress was very friendly and made great recommendations. The chef even came by to check on us and see if things were good. We started with the suya skewers which were well seasoned and delicious. I went with the Golden which came with chicken but I added shrimp as well. It was one of the most flavorful dishes that I've had. The curry was yummy and the jollof was spicy. My friend had the buka and really liked it. Everything was so well flavored and portions were huge. They also have a really great happy hour where you can get smaller versions of the entrees for an amazing price. I'll recommend this to anyone in Houston. And I hope they decide to open a spot in NY soon so I can become a regular.
Why 5 stars? Because it's elevated and unique cuisine. --- --- --- There is no shortage of restaurants you can enjoy in Houston, but a massive percentage of them are Tex-Mex and BBQ. Then there's the stuff you get plenty of in any city: pizza, chinese, sandwiches, chicken places, etc. But a real rare gem is ChopnBlok. It's West African cuisine, which is not exactly something you see on every street corner. But more importantly, this food is clearly made with love. It's not cheap: a couple of bowls and a tea comes out to nearly $100 after tip, but you're paying for real quality here. My dad and I both ordered a Golden Bowl and added steak. The steak was the best part. It had this amazing smokey flavor that made me wish I just ordered double steak instead of steak as an add on. I initially visited the ChopnBlok in POST, and was blown away with the flavors, so I've always wanted to come back and try their stand alone spot. If you're a person greatly adverse to spice, just be aware that there are some subtle hints of a kick in this dish, but I found it to be just the right amount: it let you know that it was there, but stayed in its lane.
This place was AMAZING! Loved every dish we ordered. Every bite was packed with flavor. Favorite meal of the trip. For a group of three, we tried: *Deviled Scotch Egg: A fun take on a classic scotch egg. I liked the deviled egg filling. *Polo Club Suya: Flavorful grilled beef skewers with great seasoning. *Golden: Chicken was tender and the plantains were excellent. *Black Star: My favorite dish! I especially loved the shrimp in the rich, flavorful curry. *Buka: Tender, boneless short rib that was cooked perfectly. Definitely had leftovers, but I am so glad we ordered a variety of dishes to try. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Service was great, the vibes were excellent, and the food was outstanding.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Highly recommend!
Really delicious curries! My husband got the classic golden bowl while I had the auntie mawa's maafe (the peanut base intrigued me). We also ordered the beef skewers (polo club suya) on the side. Even though the golden bowl is the classic, I actually thought the auntie mawa's had more umami. While the food was very solid, I wasn't blown away, so I'm rating this a high 4. I also thought my rice was a little too smoky (like when a blowtorch gets too close to the food and you taste the butane smell). Not that the rice was blowtorched but it had that same kind of flavor. The kale was also a bit hard to cut as it was one large leaf on top of the rice. But its fried thin texture was nice. Lastly, we ordered the plantain bread. I think it's worth getting and the cream they put underneath is a nice touch. They also crisped up the edges nicely before serving. Service was great! Our server Alexis was attentive and friendly without being overbearing.
What a delight and great addition to the Houston food scene! Loved everything about this place. The workers (and I think manager?) came by several times to not only introduce themselves but also make sure we didn't need anything or have any questions. They were SO nice to thoroughly explain the menu and let us try the different curries since it was our first time. I read the Irie Punch was very strong/heavy so I decided to get Gin & Juice and I'm so glad I did - it tasted exactly how it was described on the menu. All the food and curries are packed with flavor and I love how you can customize the bowls to how you want it. My favorite was the black star yassa curry and the golden (which is also a fan favorite). The suya beef skewers is also a hit. Everything also came out VERY quickly and the food was all packed with flavor, fresh, and had good portions. Make sure you make reservations because it's a small restaurant but I heard they are expanding. The parking is also little bit too hard to find (but there is valet) but I have gone through worse. I will definitely be back! Thank you to the restaurant for a great experience.
ChopnBlok has a fan in me! We were driving around trying to figure out a place for dinner and the ChopnBlok sign drew us in. As soon as we entered the vibes and scent of dishes made me know we'd made a great decision. Our server had a great balance between professional and the feeling of an old friend. She offered a few recommendations since it was our first time dining with them and we both went with her favorites - the coconut chicken bites and the Golden. I appreciated that most of their dishes have the option to swap or add additional protein. The chicken bites were good. I'm normally not a sauce person but a squeeze of the lemon it was plated with and the dipping sauce definitely enhanced the flavor. The Golden though, amazing! I swapped the chicken for shrimp and he added shrimp to his dish. The "jollof jambalaya" was full of flavor and thankfully came with smoked turkey sausage which I greatly appreciated as a non pork/beef eater. The curry was packed with flavor and the sweetness of the stewed plantains really complemented the heat of the dish. Our drinks were great too. I had the "Her" Chenin Blanc and he had the "Irie Punch" and we'd gladly order both again. I look forward to visiting again to try out more of the menu!
Hey ChopnBlok Family, I I just wanted to give a shout outs to Sabrina our server who took care of us; excellent service and gracious hosts. Also, II'll be remised if I didn't mention Malik, the manager who took care of us and got us quickly seated without reservations coming all the way from Katy, Texas to try this restaurant. I'm so glad it worked out and we were able to experience this divine food from the chef's county South Africa. First visit and highly recommend. We ordered several appetizers including mains; the Golden bowl and Aunty Mawa's bow. Let me tell you both entrees were full of flavor with moderate spice twist to keep things interesting...LOL. My husband and I are both serious home cooks so we appreciate good food from different countries. We'll definitely be back to try more items. Give it a try folks. Even though we went to the smaller location at The Post, we were still expecting the same level of quality and experience associated with this establishment. I have to say that my dish was tasty, but there were several things that disappointed me. First, the prices were outrageous for what was offered. Second, the use of flimsy plastic utensils and cheap napkins felt out of place. You would think that a place with such a prestigious reputation would provide higher-quality disposable items, at the very least. Overall, while the food was good, the experience did not justify the cost. This will probably be a one-and-done visit for me.
Bursting with flavor in every bite! Came to the Michelin recognized ChopnBlok with my family and we all loved it. We came during happy hour and were able to try a bunch of different plates. I assume that the happy hour portion sizing is little smaller than the non-happy hour dishes, but I could be wrong. We ordered the Polo Club Suya, Meat Pie Minnies, Coconut Chicken Bites, Golden, Buka, and Black Star. I believe happy hour is M-F, 3-6:30PM Not to be a chicken nugget girl, but I will say that the Coconut Chicken Bites were one of my favorite dishes that night. The chicken was sooo tender and perfectly fried. I don't think I really tasted much coconut though, but still yummy regardless! I also really enjoyed the Meat Pie Minnies and the Polo Club Suya! The pastry pie is so delicious and the Polo Club Suya was packed with flavor. Wished the meat was just a tad more tender, but awesome for the taste buds. Service was great as well - even though it was busy, the staff was still attentive and I felt like our food came out in a timely manner. Interior vibes gave ethnic wine bar feel. It's clean, well decorated, with music flowing. Would recommend to street park for free. There is a valet but the lot is packed. Would not even recommend driving into the parking lot, just street park and walk over.
Came here for mother's day brunch and left very satisfied! Bright and modern vibe inside and aesthetic bar. Every dish was very rich and different from each other, great for sharing. My favorite bites were - Bowls: Black star, Golden bowl - Wings & tatate (brunch menu): the plantain pancakes are some of the best pancakes I've ever had. - Drinks: The chopman- very savory and interesting

Make reservations Darlings. It is done with such elegance and grace while your chair is pulled out for you because of their level of couth. Now my sister has been eyeing this place for a long time which is an upscale version of the each nation's decor and fabulous food. Now, we started with a tasting of my mocktails and my sister was given her alcohol drink. Please, please, please get the guava mocktail. The Cape Town Cooler, i believe. It tasted like tropical goodness! Oh so delicious! So.......this is one of my new favorite restaurants, hands down! I thought it was great that they brought my sister and friend a shot of whatever is in what you are drinking. Very special and delightful!! Our waitress Tenee was another reason I would come back. She can really convince you to order something you may not like Iike and you end up loving the dish like crazy. So- for appetizers we got delicious plantain chips with a greens dip , delicious beef suya, and stal and cheese beef patties with steak inside. ALL Phenomenal! For dinner, my sister's had the Golden Bowl with delicious chicken and add shrimp along with some curried beans and jumbalaya. Sweet plantain come with your bowls. My friend got the Black Star bowl which was a wonderful cream sauce with rice and big juicy shrimp. The cream sauce was very delicious!I will get that one next. I got the Buka which was rice and pease, the peas are black eyed pease. Yum! They served it with red stew and boneless beef ribs. When I got my meal they only gave me two pieces of meat and the general manager, the one with the beard, quickly brought my plate in the kitchen and it came back out with plenty of meat. Wow this place definitely has some of the most flavorful dishes I've had in my entire life (in the best way!) [[HIGHLIGHT]]The inside of this restaurant is absolutely beautiful. You can see the culture in it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's plenty of seating. It looks like it can accommodate for relatively large groups, or if you just wanted to have a date night, or catch up with a friend.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If you plan on coming during a busy time, I recommend making a reservation beforehand. I went here with my brother for lunch on a weekday, and it was both of our first times here. I liked that if it's your first time, they give you some samples, so you can get a better idea of what to get off of the menu. Our server was very helpful with explaining each dish to us in detail and also giving us some good recommendations. We ordered: -golden -buka -African goddess salad To be honest, this was more than enough food for 2 people. We had to bring some food home to-go because we were stuffed. Our favorite item was the golden. We loved the flavor in each bite. The salad was also absolutely delicious too. The portion for the salad is HUGE, so be prepared to not finish it or share it with a lot of people. There were so many other menus items that were recommended that we wanted to try, but we did not have enough stomach room to order or eat more. I loved this place so much that after this visit, I did a DoorDash takeout order from them for my husband and I on a separate day. Michelin Bib Gourmand by the MICHELIN Guide for its good food at a great value James Beard Finalist for Best Chef 2026 It has a small parking lot, so read business parking signage and be prepared to search for a space. I parked on the opposite end of the shopping strip at BB's New Orleans and walked back. Upon entry, warmly greeted by hostess, bartender, and waiter, with no reservations, wasn't busy so they cleared a table and seated within 5 minutes. 5/5 Recommend reservations. The best West African food I've ever had! The music, the food, the conversations exemplifies community! Feels like we are all family in here! The Golden Bowl and Buka Bowl are my favorite! Get the Suya as your appetizer the beef is tender! Service is great, came on a busy night with no reservation and they accommodated! The owner is so nice as well, interacts with guest and checks in! Service and atmosphere: This is casual West African restaurant in Houston that offers stylish and modern interior and relaxed atmosphere. The place is popular so I recommend you make a reservation. We sat by the bar which is open for first come first serve basis. Service was friendly and helpful. Food and drinks: The menu highlights staples of West African cuisine such as Golden Bowl (jollof jambalaya, curry, plantains, chicken/shrimp), Polo Club Suya (beef skewers), and plantain bread with crème anglaise. Vegan options like the Motherland bowl are also available. I recommend their cocktails to accompany the food. Everything we tried was well seasoned and full of flavour. I've previously tried ChopnBlok's other location at the Post and liked it, but I knew I had to give the Montrose location a try after hearing good things about it. Luckily, it does live up to the hype! My friend and I walked in around 7:00-7:30 PM on a Sunday, and fair warning, it does get pretty packed, so it is recommended to book a reservation ahead of time. They told us there would be about a 30-minute wait, but we were seated within five (might've gotten lucky...). We ordered the Trad Bowl and the Golden Bowl, they were so flavorful and the portions were quite filling. The Cape Town Cooler was so refreshing! Lastly, shoutout to Nasir for making our night! Seeing this pop up in the Post Oak area last year, a coworker mentioned this spot as the place to check out. The girlfriend and I decided on an early dinner here on Sunday, the day after valentine's day. We left as ChopnBlok fanatics that are looking forward to our next return. Walking in, you're greeted by a smiling staff with aromas of spices and cocktails as you get walked to your table. Once seated, we got down with some handcrafted drinks which included the following: Dodo Old Fashioned - 9/10 Tamarind Manyarita - 10/10 Redbush Sidecar - 8/10 The Chopman - 10/10 The Manyarita and Chopman are the signature stars of the cocktails and rightfully so. Each has the perfect blend of sweetness, sourness, tart, and alcohol. The Old Fashioned and Sidecar are tasty as well, both were enjoyed by me although I'll admit I wish I ordered the other two previously mentioned. The gin n juice is a popular one and we'll definitely get that next time. A frozen cocktail, the server was kind enough to let us sample it and it gave us reminders of that classic Snoop Dogg track: mind on your money, money on your mind! For starters, we ordered the deviled scotch egg (8/10) and the suya & cheese pie minnies (10/10). The deviled scotch egg is an egg with the deviled spiced filling served in a ground spiced fried turkey shell; definitely your thing if you like spice. The suya & cheese pie minnies were savory and succulent with perfectly melted cheese and suya meat having the blend of spice and richness in the golden pie exterior; absolutely deliciousness. Now for entrees, my girlfriend ordered the Golden blok (10/10) w/ chicken while I decided on the greens & tings (10/10) w/ chicken and shrimp. Both dishes are superb with different taste profiles. The golden contains a jambalaya-type rice w/ curry and stewed plaintains so spiciness and richness from the rice and curry came into play and the plaintains gave a nice sweetness. The greens & tings contained tender rice mixed with greens (i.e. spinach, cilantro, herbs, etc.) and some yaji veggies with chicken mixed in and topped with 4 large seasoned shrimp. This was one of the best rice dishes I've ever had in my life; the rice was cooked perfectly with excellent flavors from the greens and spices and the meats (chicken and shrimp) both extremely tender. The portions are quite large so we had plenty to take home for lunch the next day. I recommend you make a reservation on OpenTable because if we hadn't done that, no way would we be getting a spot there. Also parking is limited so be prepared to walk a ways if you have to park a few blocks down. Take those into consideration as you plan your next meal here. You should definitely try this spot as you'll be introduced to West African cuisine the proper way and more than likely to return which is what we intend to do! read more
If you have only been to ChopnBlok for dinner, do not sleep on their happy hour. I have been here a few times for dinner, but this was my first time stopping in for happy hour, and it was a really good experience. I will say it can be a little confusing when you first walk in trying to figure out where to check in, since it is not right by the main door. Happy hour runs from 4-8, which is a great window, and you have the option to sit at the full bar or make a table reservation. It can get busy + bustling inside so I would definitely recommend making a reservation. That said, the happy hour is definitely worth it. The prices are great, and I really liked that there is a variety of both drinks and food from the regular menu available at a lower price. It still feels like you are getting really good value for what you pay. They also offer complimentary valet parking, which is a nice perk. Just make sure to bring cash to tip. Our server Tiffany was super nice (it was pretty busy but she was very attentive) and gave us lots of recommendations, which made the experience even better. read more

I don't know where to begin, this is a wonderful restaurant! No wonder why they were recognized by Michelin with the Bib Gourmand award! I simply wanted to try West African cuisine for the first time, and while I visited Houston thinking some good Tex-Mex would be the highlight of my trip, ChopnBlok indeed became the highlight. Warm, welcoming and professional service from our server. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The beautifully decorated dining room. I absolutely loved the space.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We tried with an appetizer, chicken bites. They reminded me of Japanese karaage, and the aioli sauce that came with it made them even better. I ordered "Golden" with added shrimp. With no exaggeration, this was mind-blowing-delicious! The creamy, coco nutty yellow curry. Jambalaya as the bed. Bing shrimp and blackened chicken. Beans. Brussels sprouts. I could tell this was prepared with care and love, as presentation was perfect as well. Also, serving was so big I even wondered if it was meant to be shared between two people. I eventually packed it in a box and enjoyed it later. I certainly hope I have another opportunity to visit the city and try different dishes at this restaurant! read more

Chopnblock was a great meal! The food was superb, price was reasonable, and ambiance was great. FOOD: first and foremost, the food was just great-- balanced, filling, flavorful, but without being too heavy. i felt great after the meal. I had the steak goddess salad which was such a great salad because it was so much more. It had grains, plantains, steak, and a great dressing. Highly recommend this item. AMBIANCE: upscale casual and perfect for friends/family/date. Great decor and a good atmosphere. SERVICE: perfectly fine PROTIP: I believe I saw that they have a happy hour! I forgot what the plantain chips with the green veggies was called but it was so unexpectedly delicious! I also got the greens and tings with shrimp. Everything was fresh and delicious. Our server was friendly and attentive, especially given the number of tables he was waiting on. The place was packed and vibey with EXCELLENT music. Yall... this food literally gave me hope again in eating out. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Such a breath of fresh air from the complementary valet parking to the chill relaxing vibe of the restaurant made me feel at home.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Now the food was 100/10! Some of the best food I've had in years with everything in that golden bowl seasoned down. Plantains were soft and tender sweet and THE BEST chicken fillet in the bowl. Wasn't too crazy about the Suya and cheese meat pies. They could have had more flavor but loved the texture. Best part was all the food came in under 15 minutes! Quick and fast and friendly service. We were seated and ate our whole meat within 45 minutes without feeling rushed. I will definitely be coming back! read more
I 100% enjoyed happy hour here. The food, service, and the vibe were all on point; and the price was right. Ordered a little bit of everything and enjoyed-the golden was very smoky but still good. There is 90-minute timed seating, so that's something to keep in mind. Every staff member was helpful and pleasant. I'll be back whenever I'm in Houston. read more
My friends in Houston brought us to dinner here because they've heard only raving reviews of ChopnBlok since they moved here. This spot has even won numerous awards, including being on the 2025 MICHELIN Guide Bib Gourmand list. Firstly, the vibes are really fun here. There's a DJ in the front playing a great mix of afrobeats and rnb. We didn't make it in time to Happy Hour, so we ordered from the regular menu. The bowls can be sufficient for one serving, however it's a TON of food. Our party of 4 shared 2 bowls and 2 small plates and at least two of us were STUFFED by the end (the guys in our group probably could have eaten a bit more). The bowls are also incredibly rich in flavor, so this isn't your typical fast casual bowls we're talking about. The Golden jollof rice and the yassa curry in the Black Star bowl were seriously so so good. I'd order again in a heartbeat. The food came out surprisingly quick too. While it would have been nice to have the small sides come out early as apps, all of it came out at the same time shortly after we ordered. We were in and out within an hour because of how fast the food came + how good the food was we finished it so fast! One thing that could've been better: The music, while great, is a bit loud, which means everyone is speaking quite loud indoors, so the volume level is quite high. So so good, you have to come here when you're in Houston! For those who live here and are able to come here as much as you want... I'm jealous!!! read more
Knocked my sock off. A friend brought us here while visiting, and I'm going to dream about this place for a while. Incredible flavor in the curries, fantastic quality meat. Loved the plantains in my dish. Our server was exceptional and brought us samples of each curry and rice to try. We were able to mix and match curry, meat, and rice for our bowls. Just phenomenal. The food is good, but the mains might be a little too spicy for the kids. My family and I went here. Based on recommendation from past reviews, we made a reservation ahead of time for a Sunday night at 6. Parking is a pain. There is valet, for that tiny parking lot that probably can fit no more than 20 cars. Get there early to find street parking. First impression, it was a cozy place with a lot happening. There wasn't a hostess at the front entrance, so we were a little confused. You had to go up to the register to get seated. Because of our reservation, we got a table right away. They place is cozy (small), so the noise was concentrated. There was seating outside, which would be a little bit quieter if you preferred. For appetizers, we got the "Chip & Dip", "Coconut Chicken Bites", and "Scotch Egg". "Chip & Dip" came with friend plantains with a spinach dip. The spinach dip was yummy. It was not your typical cheesy spinach dip, but a much more healthier version with what I can described it as chopped sauté spinach with some spices. The "Coconut Chicken Bites" were a hit with the kids. It was a small portion though that came with I believe was a yogurt cucumber dip. I think my kids would have been happier eating that as their main. It would be nice if they made that into a kids meal. The "Scotch Egg" (one egg that was halved) was good. I had a lot of Scotch Eggs when I was in London, so I really appreciated this was made with turkey sausage so my kids can try it. They loved it. The meals were good too. They had a few vegetarian choices. My wife got the "Aunty Mawa's Maafe", which she thought was a little under season, but still good. My oldest got the "Golden", which she loved. She had this same dish at the Post location. I had a little bit of the curry, and it reminded me of the curry they used in the Jamaican Curry Chicken Roti. My two youngest shared the "Trad", which they found a little too spicy. One had to drink a lot of water, the other just picked at it. I got the "Buka", which tasted wonderful. Most of the dishes came with some plantains which complimented very well with the spices of each of the dishes. Overall, a very nice place, and we will definitely try it again. read more
First time having West African food and had a great time at ChopnBlock! I got the golden bowl, it had some great heat to it and the prawns were large. My partner got the buka bowl and it was also delicious. It was really nice to be able to try some African wine as well. Service was nice and the ambiance bright with good music. Definitely would come back next time I'm in Houston! read more
I have wanted to try them out since they opened and finally I made the reservation and invited a few friends. I would highly suggest making reservations as I heard a group say the wait was 2hrs without on a Saturday night. The hostess area is different because it is at the back of the restaurant along with the restroom and a small hallway for waiting. Due to road closures my party was running a bit late and I could only be seated once have the party arrived which was fine. We sat on the patio which was nice but a bit windy and chilly. They have propane heat lamps, but they were out of propane at this time. Our waitress was wonderful and apologetic that they didn't have the heat lamps. Food and drinks from start to finish was amazing. I ordered the strawberry chili margarita and first sip caught me off guard because it really had a kick. Everyone at the table said their drinks were amazing. I wanted to try the chips and dip and glad I did because I wanted my greens like this all the time. The jollof, rice, plantains and chicken in my dish were everything. All I can say is that we all enjoyed our food the vibe the atmosphere everything about this place was amazing. This was a very enjoyable lunch/early dinner, aside from the rude valet guy on the front. Everyone else was pretty pleasant. This place was crowded, with about a five hour wait since we didn't have a reservation, but we managed to get seats at the bar. The bartender, Bartholomew, was super friendly and helpful and explained everything on the menu. We even received a tasting plate so we could try the different bases and sauces in sample portions, which helped us know exactly what we wanted in our dishes. I liked how you can interchange the sauces and rice with yourmeals to give everything a different spin. It feels like an upscale African Chipotle. But not an average place. The food was so good I couldn't finish my bowl. I only ate a little bit of it. We also tried the meat pies, the suya, and the shrimp. The suya was really good. The shrimp were just ok and didn't have much flavor, possibly overcooked. The meat pies were also just ok. Overall, between the service, food quality, and ambiance, I'm giving this place five stars. I feel like most of the staff interacted with us to make sure we were ok.....special shout out to EJ. He was super funny and friendly. Huge fan of West African restaurant ChopnBlok--and glad they have a brick and mortar location that offers an elevated experience that differs from their Post location. First, reservations are HIGHLY recommended, even for lunch. They have bar seating, dining area table service (no counter service), and there's a small patio. Chips and dip are a must to start your meal. Expect Liberian greens (give me an entire plate of that, please) served with plantain chips. Currently craving as I type this... It was hard to choose between all of the entrees, love a hearty stew! Opted for the Golden. Solid choice, but next time I'll ask to sub the smoky jollof jambalaya with the Liberian rice or steamed rice (I don't eat red meat or pork and noticed the jambalaya had meat). Portions are plentiful so prepare to take home some hearty leftovers. Looking forward to going back for more of those Liberian greens. read more
Came in for lunch and unfortunately I did NOT get pics of our food! It went so fast! I ordered the appetizer Suya and my husband got the Golden. The Suya & Golden were delicious!! It was soooo tender and flavorful. I loved every bite. The service was on point, we sat at the bar. The bartenders were attentive and our food came out FAST! Atmosphere: there are families here, people working at the bar, friends meeting up, overall just a very lively place. A little loud for lunch but in a good way, lively and soulful. Maybe a little hard to take calls but great for a date or meeting up with someone. The art, the culture and the vibes really glow here. Sorry I didn't get more pics! It is a mid size / smaller restaurants so they may take reservations at night but we'll definitely be back!! read more
The food and service here is a 10/10. I initially was going to try the motherland, but decided to go with the golden. It was so delicious, the bowl was full of flavor and it was super filling. The curry added a great layer to the dish, the plantains were sweet, and I love the crunch of the veggies. The jambalaya was definitely on the drier side, and the chicken was a little dry as well. However, the dish was still delicious! We tried the oga Palmer, which was good as well. The hibiscus definitely overpowers the lemonade, but I'm a hibiscus fan. Also, the customer service was great! They were super attentive, and very helpful. read more
I ate at this place when it was in the Post and now found out the open their own place by Montrose area plus recieved the Michelin gourmand. The restaurant has a very nice ambiance. Service was impressive, our waitress was super friendly . Food was amazing. Definitely recommended read more
Kitamu sana Had our monthly team lunch here on a Friday at 11 am. Reservations suggested. (Note: their system is a bit different so make sure to pay attention). We had a table for 8. Staff is super welcoming. Our server was EJ - teddy bear, comedian and flirt He enhanced the experience. EJ brought a small tray of samples of sauces etc to help us get the flavoring. Really helpful. We ordered an assortment of items. Things we ordered: Motherland, Golden, Green + Tings, polo club sula, meat/veggie pies, deviled scotch eggs, ikoyi shrimp, coconut chicken bites My order: meat/veggie pies, Golden; I did try the scotched eggs Meat/veggie pie (4/5) - meat pie was seasoned flavorfully and the crisp of the shell was complimentary, the veggie pie was also flavorful Golden (4/5) - loved the stewed plantains, the chicken was nicely grilled, the jollof was flavored nicely but the cook on it was a mix of perfection with some harder bits; the veggies were roasted perfectly and the curry was good but for me a bit salty - still delicious Deviled scotch egg (3.7/5) - this can't be taken home; it has to be eaten there immediately to really enjoy the crunch of the shell with the deviled egg For dessert, we shared the house plantain bread. It was decadent. The bread paired perfectly with the sauce and it was tender, crisp, sweet, savory. Very enjoyable. Everyone was extremely happy with the whole experience - food, environment, staff. A few had cocktails and said they were delicious. We all agreed that we would def return for another meal here. When we went parking was abundant because we got there right when they opened but the lot isn't very big so be prepared. Def recommend trying this spot. read more
