Pad see ew and mango curry
    Sydney J.

I ordered pad see ew and mango curry to-go; for both, I opted for vegetables and tofu. It was about a 20 minute wait for food to be ready. The mango curry had mostly caught my eye because I don't often see it offered on the menu of other Thai restaurants I've been to. There was some mango in it, but not a ton. The curry was fine, plenty of vegetables and tofu and they made it mild which is what I wanted, though it's a little on the watery side. The pad see ew was also yummy and had a pretty high ratio of vegetables and tofu relative to the noodles. The food was good overall, though not necessarily standing out such that I would specifically seek it out.

** The following review reflects my delivery experience DURING the COVID-19 pandemic. ** I was wondering what the Jam was referring to. Perhaps they serve Thai chili jam though I didn't see it among my condiments, or it could be the traffic jams you face perpetually in Bangkok, or maybe it was that funky 90's video song where Michael Jordan taught Michael Jackson how to dunk a b-ball. That's a whole lot of jam to consider, so I'll just focus on the food I ordered from here for Jamie W. and me. It was good stuff starting with the $8.50 Veggie Fresh Rolls which were surprisingly not sliced into bite size pieces, but they were nicely assembled with the mixed vegetables, noodles, and mint leaves packed tightly with the thin rice paper with the requisite peanut sauce (photo: https://bit.ly/36imeWX). For his entree, Jamie went for the $13 BBQ Chicken which was marinated and barbecued Thai style with native herbs and spices but kept quite succulent if a tad too lacquered in texture (photo: https://bit.ly/3a8M4Oo). I went for the $12.50 Thai Crunch Salad with Chicken which definitely had the right descriptor with cucumber, carrot, peanuts, and red cabbage mixed with plenty of the same tender BBQ chicken (photo: https://bit.ly/3qOHJ9E). It was clear to us that the grilled poultry is one of their key drawing cards. Tasty comfort food when you're stuck at home, but the question then becomes whether the food gives me a valid reason to jam. OK, now it's time for me to do the moonwalk 'cause it ain't too much for me to JAM! FOOD - 4 stars...liking that BBQ chicken AMBIANCE - n/a...I know it's next to Ajanta but that's rather moot since I had it delivered SERVICE - 4 stars...well packed TOTAL - 4 stars...makes me wanna JAM! The ambiance is very nice. The food was absolutely amazing!!!! Very flavorful and fresh... I definitely recommend this restaurant..

Day 3 of Berkeley Restaurants to Go week: Bangkok Jam was next in the list. After placing my call through the phone, we made the drive. Menu itself has different options, but I rarely try Thai food. I went with the duck noodles, and my friends got the 'Hormone Free Chicken' rice. For beverages, we had the Thai Iced Tea before, so we went with exactly that again - Duck noodles: super good! It is to a premium price, but you can taste the quality and the spices on the noodles. Duck was good, but was a bit dry. - Also tastes some of the rice. Now, the Chicken rice was more to my taste. It was warm, and filled with flavor, including egg, herbs and veggies - Probably what I enjoyed the most was the drink: the Thai Iced tea. I've probably had this tea in 2 other locations, and it is sooo good! The ice gives it a refreshing taste Bangkok Jam is a good restaurant, offering high quality, premium Thai food and dishes. Day 3 in Berkeley was to a positive side :)

My friend suggested this place after I said I wanted Thai food. We came in and was seated immediately. Being on Solano Ave. finding parking can be kind of hard. We met on a Wednesday at 7pm so parking was not too bad. The place itself is quite spacious, bathroom smells nice, and service was aamazing. We ordered a soup to share Tom kha (non spicy, coconut based) and I ordered a pad see ew with chicken. They hae large portions, and also some specials that you can see on their special menu. The soup came in a fired up bowl which is so IG worthy. The noodle had broccoli in it and some mushroom which is pretty rare. My favorite dish was the soup. Noodles were huge however it wasn't as flavorful as the soup. The service was phenomenal. The waiter came by multiple times to ensure we were helped and water was refilled. Overall, definitely a fan of this place!

One of the staff members were so sweet and regularly checked up on everyone, but our main server was incredibly rude. My vegetarian friend wasn't able to eat eggs but the rest of the table could, so we asked kindly if it's possible to just have it put on the side. I understand if they couldn't do it for whatever reason, but we were just met with so much passive aggressiveness for asking. It made the mood very unpleasant. But honestly, I find it strange as most restaurants are pretty understanding of dietary restrictions and can make modifications to cater to their many costumers. I previously had their pad thai for takeout in 2024 and remember being very disappointed. That said, I would give it another try if dined in. RECS: + Pad see ew ($16) was good, one of the better ones I've had + Green curry ($16) was delicious and full of flavor! + Crispy pumpkin ($10) had a light, airy coating of batter and was paired with a tasty sweet and sour sauce

I've dined at both the SF and Oakland locations before. Oakland started off really strong for me…read morebut over time the food felt a little inconsistent, and the SF location personally just did not hit for me. But this Berkeley location? Okayyyy now let's get into it. Parking here is definitely challenging, so give yourself extra time. We came on Mother's Day with reservations at 2 PM, right before they closed for their dinner reset at 3, and we were still seated pretty quickly which I appreciated, especially with how busy it was. We sat outside on the patio and honestly it was such a nice vibe. They do have outdoor heaters if needed, but the weather was perfect that day. We did everything à la carte for a party of 7. Appetizers: Vegan Spring Rolls: 5/5 Super crispy and fresh. The chili peanut sauce was so good we kept going back for more. Crispy Pork Belly: 1/5 Way too overcooked for our liking. It came out super dry and chewy, almost like a thick pork jerky. Definitely not something we would order again. Main dishes: Panang Neua: 5/5 OMG. This was the dish I came for and it absolutely delivered. The meat literally falls off the bone and melts in your mouth. The sauce leans salty, so pairing it with the blue rice balances everything out perfectly. So rich and flavorful. Crab Fried Rice: 5/5 The large chunks of crab really made this dish stand out. It was flavorful, not dry, and not overly mushy either. Solid all around. Hat Yai Fried Chicken: 2/5 Too thin and too dry for us. I would not reorder this dish, but the roti it came with was actually really good dipped into the sauce. Beef Larb: 5/5 Wagyu beef? Say less. This dish was perfectly seasoned and packed with flavor. Straight chef's kiss. Yellow Curry: 4/5 Honestly you really can't go wrong with yellow curry here. Comforting, flavorful, and paired well with everything else we ordered. And of course we ended with the mango sticky rice to share because you simply have to. It was the mango on top to finish the meal. Overall, this Berkeley location easily gave us the best experience out of the three. Great service, beautiful patio seating, and several dishes that were genuinely memorable. We'll definitely be back for that Panang Neua alone.

Why is finding good Thai in the East Bay so hard?…read more We ordered pretty classic stuff--pad Thai that somehow leaned way too sweet, and a green chicken curry that was so watered down it felt more like a soup than an actual curry. My husband also ended up getting food poisoning, which really sealed the deal on this one. Let's just say I'm not thinking about it too hard. Anyway. Another Thai spot crossed off the list. The search continues.
