Started off with the fresh rolls and corn cakes. The fresh rolls lived up to their name of being fresh and they were a good size with a perfect crunch. The corn cakes were fried just right so they were golden on the outside but soft on the inside and the slaw and sweet sauce elevated it. I would get both appetizers again. For entrees we had: Mama Pad Kee Moa (3.5/5) - instant noodles with fresh veggies and very thin beef. Flavor was good, but the beef missed the mark because it was lacking. Massaman Gai Curry (5/5) - the curry was so flavorful in this dish and the soft potato complimented it very well. Definitely the winner of the night. Chicken Khao Pad (Fried Rice) (3/5) - rice was a little too dry and the thinly cut chicken again did not pop out in the dish. Overall, very fresh and authentic Thai dishes. Service was fast and attentive. There are plenty of seating options to dine in, but I also saw a lot of take out orders. The green curry noodles came with vermicelli, and I wanted to try it since it's what they recommend, but it just was not the right texture for the curry I felt. Small portions, overpriced, and not so tasty - I wouldn't recommend this Thai restaurant especially with the numerous Thai options in the surrounding area that are much more affordable and delicious. The roti was the most disappointing - so thin and the curry dip was literally just a tablespoon... seems a bit stingy on a very simple appetizer. I unfortunately hyped up Tom Kha for a friend who was trying it for the first time, but this one did not live up to expectations. Despite the name, this place is not just noodles. I ordered a dish of seafood with a side of white rice. There was plenty of seafood: mussels, calimari, big fat shrimp, hunks of salmon. The problem was the vegetative matter: along with strips of onion and bell pepper were various little thingies that were not at all edible. If they got into your mouth with some of the edible stuff you had to spit the whole thing out. The suggested Thai Boat Noodles was good but could be an acquired taste. The rice noodle is Viet pho noodle and the broth has a slight fish aroma. Actually, this item was like combinining rare beef pho with pork meatballs and fermented beef stew. A vegetarian dining companion liked the Chili Eggplant Rice Plate and would get again. We both recommend the Fried Tofu appetizer. Deep fried just right outer texture and softness inside. It went well with the peanut dipping sauce (mix in some red chili for a kick). Will return to try other items. Prices are not low if you're on a student budget but also not high like at most Thai restaurants. The papaya salad was your standard papaya salad. We got the marinated crab which was a little extra cost. The marinated crab is pretty fishy so don't get it if you aren't into that. I really liked the thai boat noodle. The broth was really good. Meat and noodle were okay but I loved the broth. The thai tea was your standard. I asked to have it less sweet and it was as I requested. If you need a to go box or bag, they charge like 10 or 20 cents. The staff will check on you every now and then so that's good. I've bee here twice, the first time I got vegan yellow curry and a Thai iced tea with coconut milk and it was good! The second time, I got the vegan peanut sauce noodles and wasn't impressed. The noodles were overcooked and falling apart and the veggies were undercooked and hard. Im basing this review on the inconsistencies in taste and quality between the two times I've been, but I would go back and order something different because the first time I went, the food was super good and my friends I've been with have all liked this place. My partner and I were on our way to a nearby ramen restaurant when we discovered The Noodle. It's a hole-in-the-wall Thai restaurant with an open kitchen and maybe 8 or 9 tables. As soon as we walked in, we were welcomed and seated by a smiley, sweet woman. Each table comes with a set of sauces and toppings, which is helpful for people who want to add their own heat to their dish (not me!). We ordered a bowl of Tom Kha soup to share, an order of duck fried rice, and an order of pad Thai with shrimp and chicken. The soup was HUGE! I think I could wear the bowl as a hat. It was more than enough for 2 people, and it would've also been enough as 1 person's entree. We ended up taking a lot of it home for lunch the next day. The duck fried rice was soooo tasty. The duck was cooked perfectly and the rice had lots of flavor. The pad Thai came out steaming hot and was excellent. I got the Thai boat soup and it was very good, only problem was that the waitress miss heard my order and gave me the wrong thing("Fat rice noodles" instead of the Glass noodles I asked for) They fixed it with noo complain and I was fr munching. It was very good with their chili powder. Be careful with that chili powder tho cus it was spicyyy, I like spicy food tho. Would definitely go again. I have been coming to this restaurant since I was in college at Berkeley when it had the sister restaurant, Thai Noodle 2 on Telegraph. It's always been a favorite of mine, and I've been coming back for years. Service is usually very quick, and the food is always delicious and served hot. I typically get the Massaman Gai Curry (not pictured) which is such a uniquely flavored curry with chicken that falls off the bone! Every dish I've gotten has been amazing, like the classic pad see ew or pad thai, but my favorite dishes to order are the BBQ chicken over fried rice (pairs so well with a curry), the peanut sauce noodles, and recently the mango crispy chicken. I can never help myself and always order too much, thinking I'll have leftovers. But then it's so good and I leave feeling stuffed from having over-eaten since I couldn't control myself! If you wear a noodle shirt, you get a free drink too :) I've gotten 5 free drinks so far! The mango sticky rice I got for free too after collecting enough stamps on my card. The waitress's attitude was really bad. It felt like I owed her money or something -- she even threw the menu at us. She only poured water for certain big tables and kept ignoring us, just because she wanted to flip tables faster and kick us out. I've spent a lot of time around Thai people before and always had good experiences, but this was honestly the first time in so many years that I met a Thai person with such a bad attitude. 3/22/24 Today was our second visit to this establishment. We live about 30 minutes away and got stuck in commute traffic going home but overall worth the drive. A few photos below for your perusal. The Grand Entrance. 2, 3 and.4. A small cozy establishment with about 14 tables. One waitress manages the entire floor and seated us immediately. She is very attentive and friendly. It can be breezy if you sit near the open front door. Pleasant not too loud mood music plays. 5 and 6. A minimalist table setting. My wife is happy that unlike many Thai restaurants we have been to, the condiments are already at the table and don't need to be asked for. Tables are bussed guickly. The place looks clean and organized. --- It is nice too see how the staff interacts with their regulars. Very friendly. 7 and 8. The Fresh Rolls arrived and talk about delicious. Packed full of flavorful tasties and served with a warmed dipping sauce. Comes with some nice crunchy fresh slaw as well. 9. Pad Thai arrives steaming hot and I almost lost a finger as my wife lunged for it. She Loved it. I'm not a fan of sweet noodles and just have one bite. I patiently wait for the star of our show. 10. and Booyah! The lamb chops that I am willing to drive an hour+ for arrive. Medium well to perfection. Glistening with savory juice. Grill charred so nicely. Oh the taste. I didn't bother with the knife and fork and the bones were stripped clean. The curry sauce and vegetables and rice it comes with is also flavorful. Cleanliness is close to godliness in the food service industry. 12. We polished off everything except one Fresh Roll. I asked for a To Go box. 13,14. We are given a stamp card for future visits, a To Go carton, and a bill for $57.50. We enjoyed the meal very much and with inflation the price of the food and the service was good. This is a solid Thai spot for me. I usually opt for the pad see ew or fried chicken over fried rice. Hits the spot and there isn't a super long wait. Sometimes that's just what you need for a quick tasty meal. Note that they charge 25 cents per to-go box and 10 cents per bag when dining in. I asked for a box and was unaware of these charges. I didn't even need a bag but it was already charged to my receipt. I didn't bother saying anything since it's only 10 cents...but I didn't see any signage for extra charges on take-out boxes. I love the extensive menu here and the hole-in-the-wall, local business ambiance. I often get the wok fried mama noodles that I forget the name of, but I believe it's a standard pad kee mao made with mama instead noodles instead. It's so good with ground pork! And they make their spicy dishes actually spicy for people who handle it well. If that's not enough, there's some condiments for dining in to up the heat even further. I primarily ordered my food to go through their website and it was always ready in under 20 minutes. I saw the same staff every time I visited and they were friendly and prompt. Oh, I've passed by this place before. It's on Shattuck in the proverbial Gourmet Ghetto, but the food here wasn't gourmet and I think it would be just plain rude to call it ghetto. Regardless, I got their food through GrubHub, and they certainly live up to the grub part of the name. Basically it's a Thai spot that seems to target hungry Cal Bears. Know what I'm sayin'? And I was kinda eating like a Cal Bear based on my gluttonous order. I got the rather overpriced and inaccurately named $23.95 Six Pack, which I believe should've included six baby back pork ribs, but I only counted four. Wonderful place to get Thai food. Much more authentic than other places and it was refreshing that it wasn't too American Thai. Service is wonderful and everyone is friendly. Not too many diners while I was there for dinner, but there was a steady stream of takeout. Prices are good compared to other places. Portions are just right. Everything we ordered was tasty. From the fish cakes that had a little kick to the Nam Tok with Pork which was spicy, but not overly as long as you ate the greens with it. The rice plate with duck comes with tasty vegetables. The rice is a little crunchy and duck was good. My friend got the Six Pack - baby pork ribs, veggies, fries and garlic egg noodles. There wasn't anything left afterwards. The restaurant isn't too large, but there are lots of seats, Thai music in the background that isn't too loud. You can definitely have a conversation and not have to shout. It may be tempting to forgo your place in line at Imm Thai and skip out on their 45+ minute wait times by heading over to any one of the overwhelming amount of nearby Berkeley Thai restaurants instead, but don't do it. My friends and I headed to The Noodle in lieu of Imm Thai, and quite frankly, we regretted it. Obviously, there was no wait which is a huge plus (especially considering the weekend lunch rush) but the experience went downhill from there. My friends and I ordered a Thai Iced Tea, Khao Soi, Pad Kee Mao, and a Sweet Pumpkin dish. The Thai iced tea arrived oddly pale which meant the tea was overly saturated in milk and lacked any tea flavor. The main dishes were decent but all couldn't lift a finger to Imm Thai. Though the food was fine, the surcharges on the resulting bill soured our visit. The substitution of tofu for eggplant was a buck and even every to-go box for leftovers incurred a $.50 fee. I'm assuming that they use fees to compensate for the lack of foot traffic from customers.
