Spicy lovers will enjoy Thai Aree! We ordered the Panang curry and the owner questioned if we wanted mild and when I mentioned spicy, he recommended to order mild warning the curry was really spicy. Still, I insisted and then settled for a medium. As soon as we tried it, the spiciness of the peppers will hit you instantly. It's good and flavorful but it was too spicy for me, I'll be getting the mild next time. Another item we tried on the menu was the Pad Woon Sen with vermicelli noodles, chicken, shrimp, egg, fish ball, snow peas, carrots, onions, and bean sprouts. Much milder with a variety of ingredients! They have very limited hours and are only open mostly for dinner and takeout only. He poured me water offered me the paper to read, whilst my meal was in the works. He kept consulting me to get the correct heat for each dish. One of my go to (or order from) places for Thai food. The curry options are on spot and their food hasn't been a disappointment so far.

We were sadly disappointed. Egg rolls were swimming in oil, left puddle in bag and entree noodles and veges were cooked separately and sauce just poured on top. Fried rice was okay, but really oily too. Owner was so nice though and even gave us big slice of watermelon. I can only imagine it's difficult operating a restaurant during a pandemic, so maybe they were just having an off night?! read more

It is hard for me to eat Thai these days, with a little one at home with a peanut allergy. As such, I often try to get a Thai Fix while on travel. I stopped at Thai Aree with a coworker and his family. The service was exceptional, the food was better. We started with a Thai Pancake/shrimp appetizer - tasty, awesome. We moved on to Pad Thai (great example), a basil beef (served with fried eggs. . ), a Papaya salad, and a green curry. All of these items were excellent examples of Thai food. Let me first start off by saying the gentleman that greeted us and took our order was fantastic. Very attentive and kind. From reading past yelp reviews, it's a wife and husband combo so I'm assuming this was that gentleman. We ordered the peanut sauce noodles, pad see ew, and the yellow curry dinner. Every item was as good as the last. Seriously some of the best thai food I've ever eaten. I couldn't help but stare at the other dishes surrounding tables had. My family has been ordering and dining here for years. It is the first Thai food I've ever had and sure set the standard high (and I've traveled around Thailand). Horrible food and service. Waited 1 hour for my friends dish and mine to arrive. Three other people were seated after us and received their food before we received ours. My potatoes in my curry were hard and not done and my friends soup tasted like sour coconut milk gone bad. I ordered Lad Na, the standard by which I used to judge a Thai place, Thai Aree did not disappointed one bit. The flavor of the lad nar is right on, do not have to added anything else except the chili, the chili, you know it's homemade. The friend ordered the Massamun curry, most other Thai place will butchered the curry and turn it into this thick yellow syrup looking curry, not here, I had a taste of this curry and my friend just start laughing at me because I F-ing enjoy it so much. It was just the way I remember it back in Thailand. I spoke with the owner, about how much I enjoy the food.I commented on how I like that the menu even have the Thai writing on it. The owner made a comment that it's an old menu, and that it doesn't have some of the new item that some customer asked for like crab rangoon! Since moving to this area a few years back I've been devoted to a regular family Thai place right around the corner. She's been perfectly good to me, she never causes trouble and I always know what to expect. Until last week, I knew nothing about Thai Aree- it certainly doesn't have lots of curb appeal to get my attention... But Thai food for me is about adventure, so for a little side action I strayed in here like the lying cheat Thai food lover that I am... Yeah, after one visit I know I'll be sneaking in here for now on for my Thai needs- can't believe I waited so long. The menu includes a lot more real Thai basics than other places in the area. In one meal I was only able to try a few dishes, but they were all winners- grilled Thai sausage- as greasy as it's supposed to be, pretty good Somtom (although I missed the dried fish-food looking shrimps some places use), my curry was really outstanding- everything I could ask for. It was so nice to be able to get enough heat in a dish too- 'Chop Pet' as I say in my best weak-ass Thai actually worked! So the food suggests this place could be 5 star for me, but the ambiance is holding me back until I visit again and confirm. It was fungus salad with chipped pork, chilis, veggies, and crushed peanuts in a lemon/lime broth. Very tangy and good. For the appetizer I got the garlic beef. The vegetables and the beef were one of the best, most flavorful meals I've ever had. I don't know how the veggies and beef could have been any more FLAVORFUL, unless God himself had grown them. I know I've said flavorful about five times, but that word sums this place up. The tom kha gai soup was absolutely incredible. I already want to go back a few days later. I will probably order some other dishes and post as to how good they are. I have heard multiple people say that this is by far their favorite Thai restaurant in Chicagoland, and it is a hidden gem. No Yelp reviews? WTF. The owner, Eddie, is really cool too. He goes out of the way to make you feel more than welcome. Prices were normal (8-9 for an entree) and they take credit cards. I have this problem, which is that I grew up with Thai Aree, and all other Thai food gets compared to my "home" Thai place. And just like few matzol ball soups live up to my mom's maztol ball soups, few tom kha gai live up to Thai Aree's tom kha gai. The salads are the hidden treasure of this menu-- sweet, spicy, salty, all in one. I heart the Thai sausage also. The tom kha is some of the best you'll find. I order the green curry about every other time I'm here. The vegetables are always perfectly cooked in the curries! Apparently that's hard to do, since so many other places mess it up. It's not the best Thai food I've ever had in my life, but it is very good and very consistent, and the overall restaurant experience is laid back. The owner and occasional other servers all love talking about the ingredients, and about Thailand, so if you've been to Thailand or like Thai cooking, feel free to chat them up. If you're heading over around mid-July to mid-August be sure to call first. The family heads over to Thailand once a year and they close up shop for a couple of weeks. read more
