Updated Review: 7/2/26 I really wanted to give Thai at Laurel another chance, but unfortunately this visit confirmed why my previous review still stands. I arrived around 5:45 PM, just in time for happy hour, and took a seat at the bar (self-seating). The restaurant was very quiet--there was only one party of four, one table of two, and no one else at the bar when I arrived. Happy Hour Order: * Bangkok Wings - $8 * White Peach Martini - $9 * Curry Puffs - $8 Total: $26.77 The service was disappointing from the start. My bartender seemed impatient and in a rush, despite the restaurant not being busy. After taking my order, she never checked on me again--not once. Thankfully, another staff member stepped in several times to ask if I needed anything, and her attentiveness didn't go unnoticed. Ironically, I didn't even cash out with my original bartender because she was nowhere to be found. The food was hit or miss. The Bangkok wings were overcooked, with several pieces dried out and lacking an even coating of sauce. The curry puffs had good flavor, but the texture wasn't for me, so I couldn't finish them. The standout was the cucumber dipping sauce--it was fresh, flavorful, and easily the best part of the appetizer. The biggest letdown was the White Peach Martini. I was initially served a White Peach Margarita by mistake. After I pointed it out, the bartender remade it, but I watched the entire process and it was obvious the drink wasn't prepared properly. There wasn't a full pour of the liquor--it was mostly syrup and juice. I took one sip and left it untouched. At that point, I didn't have the energy to send it back again or argue over how it should have been made. What makes this visit even more disappointing is that this wasn't my first negative experience here. I came back hoping things had improved, but they hadn't. Consistency matters, and this restaurant has consistently fallen short for me in both service and quality. I'll gladly make the drive to Columbia when I'm craving Thai food from now on. I genuinely wanted to support my local Thai restaurant, but after giving it multiple chances, I can't justify coming back. Always a relaxing place with light background music and a full menu of options. Pad Thai, Kao-Klook ,Larb Gai and the Crispy Basil Pork are reliable easy choices here. Try the Thai Tea creme brûlée, it's different in a subtle beautiful way that may surprise you. It is a family run place and has a sister restaurant in silver spring. Both are good. Service was good, but took a legible to get my friend her coke which didn't come out until med way through our meal after reminding the waitress. Their catering menu is posted online, and they take your credit card to hold the order, which made the process simple and efficient. Big fan of Thai at Laurel!! Located in laurel mall, I would highly recommend this spot for a quick dinner! It's quite similar to dho khao thai eatery located in Columbia, a slightly smaller menu but nearly no wait every time we come and eat here. I think they may be sister restaurant, as despite the smaller menu, they serve most of the exact same dishes. There is quite a lot of seating with a few long tables for larger parties. They also spend time decorating the indoors and everytime I go I'm shocked how empty it is compared to dho khao despite being nearly the exact same restaurant. I have had quite a lot of meals here and every time my absolute favorite is the chef special mango tilapia. It is absolutely delightful, fried tilapia covered with this delightful mango sauce served alongside a few veggies and rice. Other favorites of mine include the drunken noodles with incredibly cooked tofu and the honey shrimp (although this is a bit expensive). My parents also are a big fan of the curries. The Thai puff appetizer is also a favorite of ours. Of note the dessert and specials menu is much smaller than that of dho khaos so you lose some variety coming here, but for your basic Thai dishes, it's prepped the exact same with none of the wait and crowds. Highly recommend Thai at Laurel and the whole family of restaurants! A huge favorite among my family. And try the mango tilapia, one of the best Thai dishes I have ever had. The interior is beautiful, they have a pink phone book with cherry blossoms and it's perfect for photos along with a little waterfall in the center of the restaurant. It's a very cozy atmosphere. I can't count how many times I've come to this restaurant and my meal is always on point. I love the pineapple fried rice, but I like to switch it up occasionally to try something new. I was very satisfied with my choice this time around. I ordered the blue Hawaiian as my cocktail and a curried Roti chicken dish, which was served with a side of blue butterfly pea flower rice. I was a bit skeptical about the blue rice, but the server stated that the pea flower creates the blue hue of the rice. But doesn't change the flavor. Another hit with this meal! I've been a loyal fan of Thai At Laurel for over 5 years, having tried several items on their menu (ratings below). As others have mentioned, their portion sizes have recently decreased a bit, with prices going up. You used to get way better bang for your buck. That said, Thai At Laurel does not have a single bad dish [that I've tried]. Pattana Restaurant Group serves the best Thai food I've ever had; I don't even look for better anymore. I prefer Thai At Laurel to the Dok Khao location in Columbia because it is much less crowded and loud. Service is average and fast at both locations, but you are not competing for your waiter's attention at Thai At Laurel because of the fewer number of tables. The interiors are nice, and I love that they decorate based on the upcoming holiday. I came in for dinner on a week night and it seemed pretty slow because there weren't many people dining in. Service was quick which I was happy about. I ordered the drunken noodles with beef, but forgot to ask to make it spicy. It came out mild, still good, but would've enjoyed it more if it had a kick. In hindsight, I wish they asked about spice level but it's ok. The mango sticky rice dessert was good. The reason for 4 stars was because my water cup was still dirty when I got it. I absolutely love Dok Thai and have been numerous times. Thai Laurel did not come close to the experience I was used to. I sat at the bar and was finally approached after about 10 mins. I ordered my wine and reviewed the menu for a bit. There were about 4-5 servers standing around talking as I was waiting to place my to-go order. I finally place my order and waited for at least 30 mins for my food. I asked the manager about 20 mins in to check on my order. She gave me attitude and never followed up with me. I got takeout here today and everything was delicious. The curry puff reminded me of a samosa, but with a shell more like crab rangoon. There was some kind of white powder on the outside...it looked like powdered sugar? But it's a savory dish, so I'm not sure. Whatever it was, it was delicious. The sauce that came with it was really good, too. The puffs didn't need it, but it was good nonetheless. The bangkok wings were also delicious and cooked perfectly. They weren't soggy, which I was kind of expecting them to be because I drove 15 minutes home after picking up my order. Those green onions they put on top really complement the sweet sauce that covers the wing. They're all good size and in fact, one of the drummettes was the size of a small chicken leg. The fried rice was Thai fried rice. It wasn't as salty as I expected it to be, which I appreciated. Sometimes I feel like the fried rice at Thai restaurants is too salty. We were disappointed with the pad Thai. It also lacked flavor. Service was ok. They gave us our check when they saw that we were finished without asking if we wanted dessert. I have Been going to Thai @ Laurel for over 4 years now. Every time I walk in the lady at the cash register acts like she has never seen me a day in my life. I get the same thing every single time. Siam Spicy Chicken and Mango Sticky Rice. Ive tried many other things, including drinks but this is my regular. On occasion I have told my friends about this establishment and how good the food is. However last night I was met with bad service!! (unfortunately not unusual) I ordered my food to go and decided to wait for a friend. I receive my food and a receipt to sign and tip. As I begin eating my food. While being 5 customers in the entire dining room INCLUDING ME. Tuesday, January 29th. Big Mistake. Horrible Service. Portions have changed. I will never return or support this business again after 4-5years+ The Ambiance is cold and there is a reason why it is so slow in there. The only good thing is that the food comes out hot. But at what cost, I couldn't even open the plate of hot food I paid 30 dollars for in the Restaurant!!!! I am a chef, server, AND bartender, I've been to Michelin to Fine Dining to Fast Casual.
