This is the best afghan restaurant in the dc area. We came back a week later because the food was truly that good. There is nothing bad on the menu ny favorite is the ground lamb kofta but everything is sooo good

I came here because of the WaPo article, and I wanted to investigate for myself. Outside is a busy street and a congested parking lot, but inside, you can enjoy a wonderful ambiance, smiling hosts, and soft Afghan music. I asked the wiater for his recommendation as to their signature dishes. I got the (I don't have the real names) dumplings, garlic naan, lamb with rice & carrots, and a "pudding dessert". The dumplings were excellent. Great sauces and the beef filling was very tasty. The garlic naan is flavorful, but unlike the Indian naan I am used to, this one is very stiff. I would enjoy the option to have both versions, as a suggestion. The lamb with rice & carrots really surprised me. I've never had such silky and seasoned rice before. It needed nothing else it was so good! However, the lamb was tender, spiced well, and really complemented the dish. Insight recommend it. Finally, I tried the Afghan dessert, which was a new one for me. I love pistachios and the taste is not overly sweet. However, the texture was a total surprise! It's hard to describe but the top layer is slightly firm while underneath it's almost a yogurt consistency. I enjoyed it because it was something new and unique.

Amazing food and wonderful staff! Everything we've ordered has been fabulous. The food is flavorful and unique and meat is always cooked to perfection. They also offer plenty of vegetarian options given the size of the menu. Serving sizes are large so we always leave full and with leftovers for another full meal. The staff are sweet and patient. The ambiance is also lovely. They offer take out which is extra convenient. This is not a place to rush your sit-down meal. So, if you are under a time crunch I would recommend coming back another time when you can fully enjoy. This is a refugee & family-owned restaurant. They continue to support refugees in the community by offering newly arrived refugees from any country up to 50% their meals and employing refugees. https://wamu.org/story/23/05/12/my-kabul-afghan-food-refugees/

The restaurant is in a strip mall on route one. The interior furnishing is very nice. The service was attentive however, there were not very many people in the restaurant at the time. This was Christmas Day, but I 5 o'clock the restaurant was beginning to fill. I had manta , spicy ground beff and the lamb chops with rice, and they were quite delicious.

My date and I decided to come here after reading the Washington Post review. So glad we did! Everything about it is great. Our server Maryam was so helpful in picking out favorite Afghan dishes. Give this place a try and you'll be glad you did!

Delicious! My recommendations in order: - Hand-made Afghan ice cream! - Mahicha Palau (like lamb biryani with nuts, etc) was delectably tender. - Qabuli Pau, the sweetness of carrot and raisins with the savory rice was awesome. - Sabzi (spinach) was a surprise hit! - Mantu dumplings. Love the food. Love the vibe. Love what I've read about the owners' mission.

I brought my afghan friend here expecting him to have critiques. Not only did he like it, he loved it and said it was some of the best afghan food he's had here in the US. The food was flavorful, fresh and affordable. The ambiance is very family friendly. The service was excellent; wait staff was attentive and warm. We will 100% be coming here again, and then again.... And then again, and then some more!!!

I usually come here with family or friends, and the staff is always incredibly friendly, welcoming, and helpful. One thing I really appreciate is that they have complimentary water and coffee available in the waiting area while you wait for your table. This place is usually packed, so there's often a wait. Thankfully, they have an easy online waitlist system. We'll usually add our name to the list and run errands or stop somewhere nearby until it's almost our turn. They do a great job with the timing, so we rarely have to wait long. If we're not in the mood to wait, we'll place a to-go order instead. Before a work meeting, I decided to place an order online so I could pick it up, eat, and be ready for my meeting. Well... that's NOT how that went down. I ordered the bowl with over-medium eggs, potatoes, avocado, bacon, and cheese. My expected pickup time was 8:53 AM. I didn't actually receive my order until 9:17 AM. What a joke! At least the meal looked decent, and thankfully, they got my eggs right. The food was actually good, but honestly, customer service and accurate timing are more important to me. I can always doctor a meal to taste how I want it to taste, but you can't give me back the time I wasted waiting on an order that was supposed to be ready at a specific time. And when I'm trying to get to a work meeting, that matters! Unfortunately, being only 3 minutes away isn't enough to bring me back. Hard pass for me.
